[Q] 4.3 AT&T root - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello all,
I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 that just updated to 4.3. Can someone direct me to how I can gain root access? Also, I am assuming that noone has published a way to crack the bootloader as of yet? Thanks in advance for any help concerning this.

There are several methods of rooting 4.3 but outside of that you will NOT be able to install any custom ROM's, recoveries, etc.
However, these methods are unsupported by XDA as the authors are in China and haven't released vital information on the ingenuity of their program (in terms of privacy and security). Thus I am unable to post it here, however... a simple Google search will yield the program if you are willing to take the risk of a random Chinese company having who knows what data from your device. The only way to have avoided using these programs would have been to put SuperSU into survival mode prior to upgrading to MK2 (4.3).

Root help
I was looking to root AT&T MK2 4.3 S4 for 2 reasons. 1. to be able to tether 2. to be able to record calls. I read other threads but found that after root, I need to install Wanam xposed framework, and reviews show that both hacks don't successfully work on MK2.
Saferoot is probably is best root method for MK2 AT&T but Safestrap recovery does not appear to be as good as TWRP or CWM as ROM Slots are required and memory will not be used to fullest.
Please help, anyone has success with any root method to accomplish 1. tether 2. call recording successfully on MK2?
or Successful recovery install (TWRP or CWM ) so the custom ROMS like hyperdrive can be installed.
Thanks all...

Safestrap help...
Hi all.. Please help me with another question... (AT&T MK2 4.3 S4)
First I would like to thank all developers for great great work here and all members for sharing their experiences and suggestions...
Do I have to create ROM slot in order to flash Hyperdrive ROM and keep stock ROM as it is
OR I can backup and wipe stock ROM and flash hyperdrive over it, and keeping one active ROM?
Only reason I dont want to create ROM slot is that then I will not be using the whole memory, I want to use all16GB..
Also I am getting a security policy update pop up on phone, should I install it before rooting or just ignore it?
Please advise,

call recording
guys anyone knows if call recording works on MK2 4.3. It does not work on stock ROM using Wanam. The phone freezes. Not sure if it will work with any other ROM.

[Q] ATT rooted S4 build JDQ39.I337UCUAMF3, is installing a custom ROM possible?

Dear Community,
Let me get my specs out of the way and then i'll ask my question.
I've got a rooted AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4,
Running Android 4.2.2
Build Number
I've followed the guides for rooting MF3 s4 devices, and can verify that i'm rooted via Titanium Backup and other SU requests I am able to allow.
My question is where to head next to learn any method of actually installing a custom ROM onto my device.
I have asked this question in a number of forums where i've learned to successfully root my device, but have only received responses akin to, "not possible"
but why? or is this not true? and where would one check daily to see when a method is developed to install a custom ROM?
Thanks for your help!!
Cheers

[Q] [QA] Been googling/searching... confusion on rooting AT&T i337 UCUFNI1

I'm not trying to be lazy. I've spent time searching for how to root my S4 i337, but for a newb like myself the process is extremely confusing since there seems to be so much different information out there, and not a lot about i337. From what I've discovered Towelroot no longer works as an option after I upgraded to 4.4.2 and I've tried other approaches which have failed as well. So without further ado
Is it possible to root a galaxy AT&T galaxy s4 i337 running 4.4.2 baseband I337UCUFNI1 ? If so, could someone share the links I should look at to accomplish this task?
Maybe I need to revert back to an earlier android release ? which I'm fine doing assuming something like this link should work: http://www.teamandroid.com/2014/03/30/update-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337-android-442-kitkat-goldeneye-rom/2/
After I revert (assuming it's needed) could someone recommend the next steps(links/threads) to get me to either a custom rom or latest 4.4.2 stock build (I'd prefer a custom rom for fun, but i'm fine with whatever is easiest.)
I have Odin installed and understanding getting to download mode, but deciding which "link" to follow out there for instructions is not easy for a beginner so any recommended 'easiest' approaches for my device would be appreciated.
TIA

The ss app may force close if you remove it. But you no longer need mode changer at all if using the latest ss v3.75-A01.
Thanks!
Which Safestrap for Bell/Virgin Galaxy S4 NE1 4.4.2
I have a Galaxy S4 SCH-I337M with stock 4.4.2 LUFNE1
I rooted with towel root and installed super user.
I want to install safestrap (I assume my bootloader is locked bc is says write protected when in download mode)
I dont see any versions for NE1 just NB1,MK2,MF3, not sure where to proceed from here.
safestrap i337 nj4
Does safestrap work on i337 on nj4? If so, which version? I have never rooted and am on latest 4.4.4 nj4.
Safestrap on NE2(Telcel Mexico)
I didnt notice the automatic updates on my new S4 and it upgraded over the night while i was sleeping, so now im stuck with 4.4.2 (KOT49H.I337MUMUFNE2) ... I was wondering if there is support for safestrap with this rom, or is there a way to downgrade without loosing 4G and WiFi.
Thanks.
Edit:
Greetings, i have installed safestrap 3.72 and succesfully made a rom slot in my phone, saddly, when i try to install a ZIP file with a custom ROM, it says it succescully installed the ROM and then when i try to restart, it boots with a clone of the main stock ROM ... Any idea why this is happening?. Also i must point out that im trying to install Cyanogen Mod 11, the lastest nightly for the jflte ... Im wondering if i should try with the version for the jflteatt.

Hey first great work this is my first post so i apologize if this has been answered or if this thread is no longer valid. My question is does SafeStrap work for NJ4 4.4.4?

Lollipop support?
I know that it might be a huge effort, but what is required to support lollipop?
Looks like users with TWRP can flash some kernels as long as they are based in the stock kernel and still in locked bootloader.
Looking at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292341, ktoonsez was able to to provide kernel for AOSP lollipop using CWM or TWRP. Can this also be done for Safestrap?
This might also require ROM modifications to support safestrap, but again, what is required.
I have some basic-medium programming skills and relatively new to Android but willing to collaborate for whatever is required, just point me to the info I need to learn and I'll do my best to help.

If you have true TWRP, that means you have an exploitable bootloader, even if it's still locked. The only way you could get lollipop on a stock kernel for Safestrap users is if we get an official Lollipop stock kernel. If you've got evidence to say otherwise, sharing would be good. Otherwise, Safestrap doesn't allow the flashing of kernels since they won't work, and the only other possibility is using a kexec module to load an alternate kernel from disk after the phone starts up. This module is actually being worked on, and if you want to ask about it go to the verizon S4 General section and look for the "if we are serious" thread.
Bootloop when using ROM slots?
I've attempted to use the recovery several times now. If I use the Stock ROM slot to flash the ROM (Goldeneye v49.2) I can't get back into SS recovery once it flashes. If I use the ROM slots, I get stuck in a very laggy bootloop. PLEASE HELP?
I'm using Galaxy s4 SGH-I337 on 4.4.2
Baseband version UCUFNB1
NK1 wi-fi modules.zip (Safestrapped Hyperdrive MOD installed) which one?
Hi, I've got an sch-i545 verizon gs4 with Hyperdrive Rom running on it (yay!) but need the Modules.zip file for NK1, which seems to be the least used version of Verizon's locked bootloader phones.
If you or someone could point me towards a modules.zip for NK1?
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK!!!

Best place to start would be the Verizon S4 forums and not the AT&T S4 section. Look for any index type threads or something there.
Guys. I need some help. I just installed Safestrap 3.75 on my S4 but when I boot into recovery the time is all wrong its off by like an hour and 20 min. Time zone is correctly set. Anyone have any ideas?

[Q] Koodo S4 upgrade questions

Hello Gurus,
I have the Canadian S4 (I337MVLUFNI2) running stock 4.4.2. I've just downloaded the Lollipop upgrade from Koodo but did not install.
I'm looking to root and flash CM12 or other ROMs, but I'd like to try Lollipop first.
Few questions about the upgrade:
-Will I be able to root the device after upgrading to Lollipop?
-If I don't like Lolipop, can I revert to my 4.2.2 using my Kies back up ?
-If I want to be able to evert, do you recommend that I root my 4.4.2 and take a nandroid back up first ?
(Battery life is important for me. If the upgrade turns out to be disastrous as some online reports indicates, I'd like to be able to go back to 4.2.2).
-What is the recommended way to root and install recovery for my device ?
Thanks to all..
Do what I did.
Backup all files to PC
Flash lollipop firmware through Odin which you can download from sammobile
Reboot into recovery and wipe data and cache(this will erase everything on phone)
Boot up phone and setup accounts
Then once finished flash this through odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293800
Flash twrp through odin
Boot up and copy files back to phone
Reboot into recovery and flash cm12 or whatever you want
So far, there is not a root method for Lollipop on the S4, nor does Xposed work for it yet (lots of issues with the way Samsung implemented ART to Touchwiz).
There is a keep root method in the S4 general Forum, which is just a way to keep root throughout the install of lollipop if you are already rooted on the current ROM you're upgrading from. I'm on my phone though so apologies for not linking it.
I'm not certain if a kies backup will restore after the upgrade, but even though the keep root method removes safestrap functionality, there is a way to get it working temporarily, which may provide some hope.
Seeing as you're using a Canadian model I don't think you need safestrap, and seeing as I do (AT&T model), I can't tell you how other recoveries will handle the situation.

Hey Zehlek, I'm coming from CM11 (details below). I'm trying to move to CM12 because CM11 is doing strange things with my GPS. Which version would you recommend that is stable for the SGH-I337M? I read the CM12 dev page, but I'm a little nervous about the whole "editing scripts" part of the process.
Current Software -
SGH-I337M
CWM v6.0.5.1
CM v11-20141112-snapshot-m12-jflte

Confused over installing recoveries

I can't seem to find a straight answer to my question since most of the info for the S4 is 2 or 3 years old now.
So I have a completely stock ATT i337 running Android 5.0.1. I would like to install a custom ROM, so I understand I need to install CWM or TWRP first. So my question is this... Do I need to root my phone first before I can install either recovery? If so, what method do I need to follow for my version of Android?
I understand that with time there are improvements. Some stuff I've read makes it sound like there is a lot of automation in installing custom recoveries, and maybe I don't need to root first because they root for me.
Thanks.

I think you posted in the wrong forum.
Anyway, if your phone is SGH-i337 and you do not have an older bootloader (MDL/MDB) then you can not install CWM or TWRP since your bootloader is locked.
For the AT&T S4 you have very limited options.
You can find how to root, how to update information here.
You can find how to install custom rom on AT&T S4 here.
