Unlocked bootloader? - M.O.J.O. General

I would like to buy this device and be able to modify the software. Will it come with an unlocked bootloader and be rootable? It's not fun when developers aren't supported by the manufacturer as in the android world it will attract more attention to the product. I like to be able to customize what I own also could madcatz please release stock flashable firmware files for developers and development? Most of us on xda would appreciate it thanks for your time reading this and look forward to your product and hopefully all the above being true.

Hi,
Yes, the bootloader is unlocked so it is rootable. Regarding the rest of your questions, watch this space!

Hi after 1month your device is still unusable. So now how we can root this device ??

+1 for some more info, it would be great to at least get root, then we can hide the bar for XBMC until we get KitKat (and kernel sources would allow us to cause some ruckus on that side too )

+1! :good:

ITS HERE!
Woohoo!! Root baby root!

Developer vs Normal

Haven't spent much time researching but time is short before Monday' sale/
Why would I want the developer edition over a standard designed phone. I'm just not quite understanding what the advantage of the developer version is. I do want to root if that's a factor.
Thanks.

Two things:
1. You get to keep your warranty if you unlock the bootloader
2. You don't have to worry about root exploits for FUTURE OTA releases; current software already has root.
Other than that, they are identical devices except that you can customize the regular version.

No you don't have root out of the box. With developer edition, you can unlock the bootloader, flash a new recovery, and install su (root) using fastboot. You can do it at any time.
For the regular version, you need to root using Jcase's exploit (in the Development forum) which is also relatively easy to do.

But with regular version you can flash TWRP recovery too and get SU with that, I see no difference in there.
I think the difference is in when you unlock your bootloader, developer edition doesn't lost its warranty

For now yes. If we get another OTA and no one makes a root exploit, the regular version may be stuck without root. If you care that much about having root, the dev edition is most likely the better choice. If you're not too worried about not having root in future OTAs (who knows if we'll actually get another major OS bump) the I guess the custom versions are going to be more interesting to you.

Thank you for that information. :good:
Dev edition is also more "figure proof" whereas after motorola stop supporting the phone you can still get android updayes so long as there are devs building them.
Thanks for the info guys. I'm really considering upgrading from my Nexus 4. I would have preferred a different color but I think I'd go with the developer edition. I'm getting ready to go through the forums but how do you guys feel the developer support is compared to the Nexus 4? I use CWM recovery and like CM and AOSPA a lot. Does performance take a hit on custom ROMs compared to stock which is from my understanding highly optimized?

Can anyone speak to the LTE bands for ATT on DE? It looks like it has 17 covered but ATT can also use 4(?) and I think Wikipedia says 29 in the future. I'd hate to get it and stop getting LTE in areas I'm getting it in now.

Is an unlocked-bootloader valuable?

I have an AT&T S4 with an unlocked bootloader. However, I want a new device. I was just wondering if my device would be useful to any developers on this forum.
It currently runs 4.2.2, with I337UCUAMDB
Kernel version: 3.4.0-440216

First, there is no unlocked bootloader on the i337. Just and exploit that gets around the locked bootloader. MDB allows that exploit. There are enough developers here who have not updated their firmware that your device is probably not worth any extra to them.

Eta's are the biggest no-no on this site. These developers do this stuff out of the kindness of their hearts, aside from jobs and families. Asking for a time frame for any sort of development is a huge slap in the face of the devs. With that being said, all you can do is what you said already, go back to kit kat and flash a rooted lollipop rom, and be patient with the devs, as this is not their job.

Not sure what you meant by that, but you clearly asked for an eta of a root method. The only way you can have rooted lollipop is to downgrade and flash like you mentioned, and wait patiently for something to come up.

No, no one knows the time.
But it's definitely not before G4 is released. If there is a root exploit for LL, it lies in LG's services, and it would most likely apply to all LG phones running 5.0. Releasing something like that before the release of G4 and other 5.0 phones is a bad idea.

Root Is Possible!
Hi Friends,
I am a fairly new owner of a D858HK (dual-SIM) variant of the LG G3. An update to Lollipop came in so I got interested.
Focusing instead on getting root and "bump'd" TWRP (custom recovery), I figured it out through the help of @autoprime and his thread.
I know there are a lot of developers who are able to "tear down" the official Lollipop firmware, pre-root it, and repackage/distribute it, however, the D858HK variant is not as widespread as the D855 so I had very little hopes for custom ROMs. So I documented everything that I have learned through reading the relevant threads, tested it on my LG G3 variant (with 100% success rate), and put up a thread to share it. You can check it here: click me!
I'm interested to know if this will work with other LG G3 variants. If it does, please let me know.
In the meantime, this finding got me interested in learning more. I'll probably start with the easy ones like pre-rooting and repackaging the stock firmware. Who knows, I might eventually progress to where I can modify/create a ROM (that's ambitious, but not impossible).

Nice guide!
This will work with any phone.
You can easily create a flashable zip and share it for you fellow d856/857/858HK users.
Just take META-INF (updater-script) from robalm's zip, bump boot.img, substitute d855 images with 858 ones, and voila! You have a repacked 858 stock rom.

Well ETA stands for Estimated time of arrival not exact time of arrival so what you are asking for is an eta!! we would all love to get some info on the root for lollipop but keep it cool man. you dont have any developer here on your payroll so if they say don't bother them about ETAs then you better get a glass of tequila and chill out. and hope and pray for ETA. or better still swap your g3 for a nexus.

I think technically, we could see customized stock based ROMs. In fact, if you go to the download page for the pre-rooted firmware, there is a de-bloated version in there already. I think most people aren't super excited by that though. I'm happy to do my own stuff through GravityBox until AOSP is available.

At least we' re doing something,no matter what' s a result.
Verizon isn't going to let Motorola bl unlock these phones until they stop selling them like the X
But there is a new unlock exploit coming very soon that *will* work on the 8960/pro, so most of us will at least get 5.1 via cyanogenmod, it should breathe new life into these devices for at least the rest of 2016, maybe longer.
Maybe there is a chance to even get 6 via cyanogenmod eventually if the drivers can be ported from 5.1 ? Or is that an unrealistic expectation?
Let's hope this new 8960/ pro exploit is real for the sake of those who have not had the pleasure of running LP and MM on their machines. My MAXX and OG Moto X have been on LP for over a year now and it ran much better than KK other than the cell standby bug. I just flashed CM13 on this phone and it is even better. Testing out doze now, seems to be pretty good on the battery. This is a great phone, if it is bootloader unlocked!

root exists on the (verizon) mini/maxx/ultra (same phone internals) because of work done by crashxxl to bypass the bootloader and write over the rom via qload driver mode - basically he writes the changes needed for root and SU
I believe he figured it out by studying the developer edition of the device which is bl unlocked
it works quite well, we have root and xposed but wp=1 of course
laginimaineb's next announcement will open the device for everyone but I don't think he is releasing a proof of concept, at least not for this phone model, so if you are willing, we could probably really use your help when that happens
I'd be happy to send you a mini (to keep) if that will help motivate you

it's kitkat 4.4.4 - the only option right now unless you have a developer model or paid for sunshine so you can use cyanogenmod, etc.
SU6-7 rom was built December 2014 (sunshine cannot unlock this one)
SU4.21 rom was built June 2014 - sunshine CAN unlock this version but if anyone has accepted the OTA, it's too late because now the phone is SU6-7.3 and fuse blown
I can send you either SU4 or SU6 to play with

SU4 hasn't been available for a year now, maybe longer and you cannot downgrade these phones
verizon now ships all of them with SU6, so no sunshine, and verizon refuses to let motorola unlock the bootloader like they did with the X
