What's the diference?
Same specs, same hardware as the original LG's one!
It's just haves a pure stock Android 4.4 experience (Nexus like) and it counts with faster updates directly from Google!
Priced as US$350

Agreed. Was looking at the Nexus 7, but I think this will be purchased instead.

The Google Play Edition also has NFC which the original didn't.

I'm assuming it will lose the Knock on feature.

Ordered one myself. I have both 7's and the 10 and I'm super excited about trying out the 8in form factor.

Got my LG G Pad 8.3 from Newegg for $250.

I don't think it will. The GE S4 kept its remote and all the ROMs for the G2, even AOSP, have kept the knock on feature. Knock off is gone, but an app can bring that back. Anyway, LG are actually the ones who build the GE OS so I would think they will continue support for that feature, especially since it's in the kernel... From what I understand.

proof? NFC isn't mentioned in the Play Store.
So the normal device should be fully compatible with GPE rom and kernel, right?

That was my first thought as well I am almost sure that it will be possible to flash the vanilla KitKat ROM to our regular 8.3s. And it should developing other ROMs easier as official KitKat etc. I builds are available incl. all drivers etc working of course.

I ordered for pick up the 8.3 at best buy since I had tons of reward points. I still haven't picked up since I was having some buyers remorse and also waiting to see what google was going to drop.. but I think I'm going today to pick up!

ok thx, I just looked at the HTC One and SGS4, they also have Google firmware to flash. I think this is is my new tablet.

Google don't "update" the Google Edition devices, the OEM has to make the update files, Google just host them and make them available. Google only update their Nexus line

? he said it himself that there is no sign off NFC in the kernel

Nothing, just minor bug fix, Androidpolice have posted changelog
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/02/22/download-latest-google-play-store-3-10-14/
Why post this? Not only is this an automatically updated app, but this release is very minor and has nothing worth mentioning in it :-/

I completely agree with the principle although in this particular case Android Police mentioned
The APK, uploaded by XDA member ecs1984, is signed by Google and upgrades your existing Play Store. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the apk was not tampered with in any way and is therefore safe to install. Use this download if you'd rather have the latest version rather than having to wait for Google to randomly push it to your device. Download and install it just like any other APK.

I assume it's safe to get it from the links in Android Police's article at least.
Its all about risk assessment, without any obvious advantage why consider it.
How many times on this forum do I read problems people are having from "latest versions" Official or unofficial ......when actually the previous one worked just fine.
Always let the over eager people do the testing.

Exactly... i fully agreed on what had been said. I have problems after installing an unofficial google play app last month and i need to reflash the whole rom....
If it were ready for release, Google would push it out to us. As they aren't, I doubt it's ready.
I got it 2-3 days back.
I think phoenix rom might have embedded it.

I'm one of the people who do not really like Google updates, as I had some issues before with Youtube and GMail updates, so i decided as long as there is no error i'm facing with the version that i have, i would not consider new Google updates until i see a major change that i like.
Regarding the issues that I had with GMail and Youtube, they just did not work properly after an update that Google released many weeks ago, and nothing really worked even after restarting the phone and all the basic troubleshooting steps, no emails were coming or going and the youtube videos kept on loading till I uninstalled the updates, afterwards everything went back on track.
Working absolutely fine here!

Is this carrier dependant, or do all Canadian devices get it first? Today I got a Moto X from an eBay seller in Canada and the software seems to indicate it's localised to Canada somewhat (system version has a .CA at the end, for example).
Location and the provider you're using the Rogers phone with won't matter, the update will work anywhere on any provider as it is based only on the current firmware version and to a lesser degree on the unique serial number of the phone.(updates generally released to serial number ranges at first as a test)

Well there's the 4.2.2 camera upgrade, but unless there's a 4.4.2 camera update, 4.4 isn't really an improvement.

Seems legit!
It will be at least October before it is released. Google is not allowing any Android L apps (using the new api) until then.
What I think is that company's are already using an release source in secret, not accessible for us. But I don't believe September...

The API is public. There is no need for it to be secret. But it is subject to change so they aren't allowing apps to be published on the Play Store until it is finalized.
well if google wants to play catch up with ios8, a septembet release might be on the way for L but then again, the October relase according to the API regulations on playstore is legit too. I hope L will run well on our moto g

But of course we won't get it this month. No way.

No really... I did read it. You stated that you know for a fact we would get it. Why would we not get it? I can see a galaxy s3 not getting it as of is no longer sold in the stores. So, that being said, why would a new phone, less than 6 months old, not get an update.

What is implied here is that not all will update because some are meant for lollipop. Also yes some may update because it may be able to run on both versions.

As for the apps in the OP, if a little time is taken to read through the information about any specific app generously supplied by Android Police/APK Mirror, it is stated what the Minimum Android Version is needed to run that particular app. :highfive::good:

Or, seems like some people are underestimating the power of these carriers and completely forget how updates on the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon went.

Yeah but they were not the same beast. Different hardware.
Ota posted yet to sideload?

I am rooted and romed, but my dad likes OEM.
If I take this OTA on his phone, is there a way to revert back if he does not like it? His is bone stock, no rom, no root, no unlock.

oem? huh?
and his is stock, but does have a rom. if it didt, it wouldnt ever leave the google screen, the screen when you just power the device on. even stock, is a rom.
Assuming he is going from 5.0.1 to Tmobile 5.1 you would need to flash all of the stock 5.0.1 files (bootloader, radios, rom etc.). If it was my dad (R.I.P.) I would tell him there is nothing you could do because if he's all about the stock experience he probably won't appreciate you messing with his phone.

I'm sure a twrp flashable M build will make it's way here soon. I'm on T-Mobile running 47D, and I'm fine with it until then.

You have to be on wifi
Also it goes out in stages so... You might be waiting for days unless you do it manually.

Well that's just plain dumb. It should tell you that there is an update and recommend that you use wifi.

You need to wait. Maybe days, maybe a week, or do it manually once the OTA has been captured.
That said, someone here better capture the OTA and share it!
