4.2 to 4.4.1 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy, was looking to update my nexus from 4.2.2 to 4.4.1. I remember when I went from 4.1 to 4.2 I had to use my PC to update the boot loader first. Is this also true for this update or can I just flash my new ROM and gapps after a good wipe?

Bump! Anyone?

The proper way without any problem is flash factory image via wugfresh tool kit and it should update your device kernel bootloader android os every thing and it is very easy too.
Please ignore my spelling mistakes. English is not my native language.

Still haven't updated to 4.2.2. One question

I'm still on the 4.13 boot loader obviously since I'm on 4.2.1. I don't have a computer so can I just flash a 4.2.2 ROM without any problems? Thanks

yeah i dont think having a old bootloader would affect the rom flashing.
but why not wait til you're able to flash the new bootloader and then a 4.2.2 rom as well?
I use the official CM10.1 so I want to update to the latest nightly. But okay. Thanks!

If you mean that you need Official Stock 4.3 for Nexus 4. That is not released yet. There is a system dump extracted gmillz in Android Development forum you can flash that, else you have to wait. Please post the question in general category.

Wrong! You can download the official 4.3 rom from googles devs servers..
To just awnser ts.. You can just use the normal toolkit from mark (mskip) .. You will get a warning that the img is not in toolkits database..
My gnex is running it sinds yesterday..

I've heard of these things called adb and fastboot, they are really not that hard to use or learn. If your a Linux user its as easy as just downloading the SDK.

If you read the app info on play store it says it won't work on 4.3 but they are trying to find a fix.

Ok so we just have to sit tight correct?
Sent From My Rooted G3
I would sit tight and let the app developers try and straighten things out. I updated my nexus4 to 4.3 but will wait awhile before doing my n7. I'm sure it won't be long!

Ok need a little help trying the root kit but for some reason I keep getting adb can't connect

Only thing I can suggest is make sure you have USB debugging enabled and make sure you have the correct drivers installed. It's probably best to ask in the thread of the toolkit you're using, I haven't tried many toolkits but wugs has a pretty good walk thru for driver installation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

I followed the instructions in the thread below for 'Already updated to 4.3 and have an OTA notificaion? (JWR66Y from JWR66V)'.
I unrooted, flashed the update zip in recovery and immediately after flashed the superuser zip and all was fine.

For some reason I lost root again anyone suggest anything to do to get it back ?

Boot into recovery and flash Chainfire's SuperSU package. After that you are rooted.

How to go back to stock?

I want to go back to stock image how do I do that can I only flash Tue stock image anything else needs to be done?

Did you create a Nandroid backup with either ClockworkMod Recovery or TWRP? This would be the easiest and fastest way to do it. If not, efrant wrote an awesome guide for returning the Nexus 4 back to stock

You don't flash factory images with recovery, you use fastboot.

Id recommend never using a toolkit, for so many reasons I've seen; people don't understand what's going on and can't fix errors, they come asking about things that should be basic knowledge, they don't learn anything in the process, and so on - its like giving kids a calculator before they can add.
Anyway rant over, flash this in recovery; http://download.chainfire.eu/365/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.69.zip, and if you need a recovery; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654
