[Q] Nexus 4 & Active Display app from Moto X - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

They just released the Active Display app to Google Play for the Moto X.
Is there ANY way we can use this app on our phones?
It was possible to have the Moto X camera so I was hoping that this would also work.

I've tried it, but it's not as good.
Pocket mode wasn't working for me and the lockscreen was acting strange.
I also tried Active Notify.
Would love to see a Moto X rom for the Nexus 4

Works like a dream for me..

I would love to try this app .

You can try changing the build.prop file entries to that of the Moto X...

There are several apps on play store. I tried one of them "multiscreen multitasking THD" (you have to buy it to try it) but soon returned it. Very impressive idea but it could not connect to the Internet with its own browser, so I asked for a refund.

It worked fine as far as the multi window aspect. Quite cool! I just could not connect with its browser. It’s only $2 so you can try and see if you can get it to connect. I wrote to the author but have not heard back yet.

Paranoid Android is currently working on their implementation of multi window, but it uses an overlay concept to do it. IMO this is much cleaner than stacked windows. They also have a notification ticker that works like Facebook chat heads, which is how you launch the overlay apps. It's still in alpha status but it's shipping up to be really good.

What have you done know that is rooted

Just wondering what everyone has done to their new rooted moto x. So far I have installed xposed, xposed themes, and install cyanogenmod MMS.

Native tethering and AdAway. Tried xposed mods, but not getting them to stick.

Froze a whole bunch of crap in TiB and Greenified everything else. AdFree is also a given.
I installed AdBlock, TiBu, and Xposed. Also will enable tethering, when it works for AT&T

Once my moto x arrives, I'll be making or installing a dark themed MMS app. I can't stand the white color scheme

I use adaway it works fine on the moto x. If you google Fdroid from your phone and dl the apk you can get the latest version of adaway 2.7 and a bunch of other non playstore apps.
A dark sms app is definitely on my wishlist. Looking forward to OC/UV kernels.

are you sure?
I think there are apps on play store for that. You can open any app you want with voice commands.
But downside is your phone will not sleep at all and will cause massive battery drain.

There's an app on this thread that will do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2450131
Unfortunately as the previous poster says, if you have it activated all the time including with screen off, your battery drain will be high.
Thanks but that app is drain my battery so much
You can do with tasker + auto Voice, works better than moto x, look for armando Ferreira in youtube.

something odd I seen

okay I have seen that the moto g can't use NFC and I know this could be shot down fast but if u got into the setting then apps it references this app that's in the pics
just odd Motorola would include this app just me

If the Moto G had NFC why would Motorola hide it? It sounds like a way to increase sales unless they are trying to protect the Moto X's sales.

that's really weird... we could be looking through the sources and check if we could enable it or not.
how can we check if nfc is supported ?

I somehow doubt that NFC is a selling point to more than, like, 7 people.

Yes, that was my mistake. I wasn't checking ALL apps. Thanks
But how do you verify whether the app was there by mistake or there really is an unannounced chip present?

Unless we find a way to clearly see if the nfc chipset is present, there's not much we can do.
If it's there, we can always activate it with an xposed module or app.

this sounds promising. Any techies give us an update on dismantling their Moto Gs?
In android KitKat google made the "secure element" that google wallet required into software. So perhaps the tech support guys means the moto g is capable of using google wallet?
Sent from my XT1034 using Tapatalk
I noticed it was installed on android 4.3 but ignored it as I thought it was just a small mistake but it is strange that it's still here on the 4.4.2 update, maybe we might have NFC after all?

Happy news for moto g 2nd gen users..

Hey all,
Unlike moto g, moto g 2014 has a gyroscope,
So all google camera features like photo sphere, lens blur, panorma works for this device..
Why waiting...just download google camera from play store and experience the Nexus only features.
wow
bought the fon bt didnt knw about the gryoscope... hope its true.. let me check.. thnx for informing
yes moto g 2014 has gyroscope & this is one of thre biggest reason i bought this phone & gyroscope also makes this phone compatible to google cardoard. this phone works fine with virtual reality apps.

That's great news ! When I was searching I did not pay too much attention to it. It's also great because it will work better with several games, right ?
it works great with most of the vr apps available for android and that too with good fps .
