[Q] Plastic layer on camera? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
For a long time I'm wondering is there's a plastic layer on the camera when you buy it. I notice something that could go for a plastic ring-formed layer around the camera lens, that holds a little dust at the rounded edges with time, but cant be pulled off? I tried all differend kind of things, but it won't come off... Still, I asked everyone of my family to see if they agree they see a plastic ring too, and they all said yes..
Have you noticed anything like this on your S4 camera?

Yes, there is a plastic guard on camera.
In my case, it popped out a bit from corner some months ago, which I later pulled off.

I cant seem to pull it..
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app

there is a plastic layer over it
remember I tried to pull it off also and had some trouble since it seem not to remove
try with a sharp razor (at least that way I managed to remove it)

Screen Slide issue

i'm not sure how this started, most likely a drop, but occasionally a spring will appear underneath my screen, and sliding becomes difficult. it seems i can get the spring back in place by putting downward pressure on the screen when sliding, but this only works for so long. i cant imagine the slide portion is difficult to remove, but does anyone have any advice on this issue? thanks.

That is one of the springs that hold the keyboard open, don't try to pull it out. With the slide open you should see the 2 springs on the backside of the screen. To take it apart you need to go in through the battery compartment. There is about 3 levels to get thhrough before you get to the screen. About 10 months ago I replaced the screen, I found avideo walk through on youtube that helps.

good luck with that man...let me know how it goes!
you should be a protective case to prevent things like that happening
thanks guys. i havent actually done anything with this yet. a couple days ago that spring just fell out, and nothing at all seems to be different. i saved the spring in case i feel like putting it back in, in which case ill post on it.

I've already tried with my home vaccum but the dust is still in there. It doesn't affect the sound quality at all, but it looks bad imp.
Cheers.

I've tried scotch tape, air duster (short blasts from the side) and lens cleaning wipes. I can't get it out no matter how hard I try :banghead:

Chewing gum or a similar sticky substance works (fruit works better than mint ime).
Here's what i did. I took an ear bud, dipped in a glycerin based soap. Let the excess soap drip away. Now clean it with that. I have tried it myself, and it works great for me.

Protecting the camera lens without a case.

Anybody else do this, or am I crazy???

If you have a phone with a raised camera, then I found the feet on the bottom of routers and cablemodems work pretty well! Comcast will never know it's missing.
I also do but not like you
I have managed to microcut the camera lens too, can't see the cuts without good lighting but I have.
Never done it on any of my devices. The lens is receded into the body anyway, so there's no real risk of marks or scratches.
Also, the Nilkin tempered glass screen protector comes with two little protectors for each of the camera lenses.
More for than just earwax
Daughter has an X+ and she did quite a number on the lens. So much, that all of her pictures taken came out ghostly...
I pulled out my handy drill, a cotton swab, some toothpaste mixed with a bit of water, and started polishing that sucker. Did that for about 4 minutes (being careful not to stay in one place too long) and it removed all of the micro scratches she had caused by putting her phone into her rear pocket

Screen softness?

I've had the phone for 24 hours now, and I've already noticed a lot of tiny scratches at the top of the display (by the camera/2nd screen). Several of these scratches go right across the camera, and they all seem to be going vertically up and down the glass right at the curve point. I truly haven't set this phone down screen side down, and the only thing I can think of is it getting scratched going in and out of my jeans. I keep it in my right front pocket all by itself. I'm super disappointed in the glass so far. Anyone else have this issue?
Edit: Photo's.

Mine did as well, I removed it first thing because it had 4 small bubbles in the middle of the display. I just figured it was for transport like every other phone comes with. I'll post photos in my original post.

Design or Flaw? Camera Ring Groove

Hello guys,
My friend got a oneplus 5 and it has a groove on the upper middle of the camera ring? Do you guys have it to or is it some mechanical flaw
sure it doesn't affect the glass now but I'm worried the glass is more prone to cracking now..maybe. Anyway today is day one so there is ability to get it replaced so let me know thanks!

That's so funny because when I opened the box it was like the first thing I noticed. And I thought, what the heck is that! It's definitely part of the design though. As somebody pointed out I guess it's for NFC. Which makes sense.
