This is not a bug. This is Samsung's way of registering your SIM on their device and will happen each time you flash 4.2.2 firmware and boot into it for the first time. When the SIM setup appears, your phone or current SIM will automatically send a message to this number
It's really annoying and makes me wanna smack the people who put this is in, but sadly this isn't a bug

Unfortunately, that message is being sent once a month, and I'm running 4.3.
I emailed Samsung about this and you couldn't believe the lamest reply that I received back.

[Q] Not receiving text messages from girlfriend only!

Hey xda,
I have been having this intermittent problem with my GT540 where I will be receiving and making text messages all the time and suddenly I will stop getting replies from one person only, my girlfriend. I know she has been texting because she has been telling me over MSN and facebook but these messages won't goto my phone. I put my SIM card in another phone and they all come through in one big heap.
Things I've tried:
removed and replaced SIM card
airplane mode on/off
update firmware to 2.1update1 stock
reflash firmware (3 store did this for me in attempt to fix the problem which fixed it for a while)
deleted all previous messages from her/everyone
put sim card in different phone (as said earlier, this downloads all her messages in one go, however this other phone is not my main phone and isn't ment to be used)
anyone have any ideas? please help me
This would be more if a long term solution, but this is why i like Google voice. All SMS stored online in case you don't receive one, for whatever reason.
Or maybe just replace your girlfriend..

Get a different phone, that's what i did. My gt540 had a mind of its own. When people used to text me i would receive the texts late. When people called me it would go straight to voicemail. it would usually take six tries to get through to me. My wife had the same phone and she was going through the same thing as me. This problem started from android 1.6. Back then i would just receive texts late once in a while. The more i upgraded the phone the more problems the phone gave me with its network. So finally i had enough and got a new phone a couple of days ago. I am now the proud owner of the Samsung galaxy s.
I know that the text/call issues dont affect everyone, however i had this issue and i know a couple other people who went through it to. I can't think of anything else to tell you other than get a different phone.

New Firmware is pure Crap !

Well fellows I updated my brand new device two days before and certainly it was working quite fine until today it just by itself lost all the signals I was shocked and re started the phone it took long time to show signals but waiting was'nt worth here my network state for device was "Emergency calls only" and when I tried to dial or send sms I get error "Not registered on network"... I than searched the forums googled the symptom but there was no luck on operating the device on network while keep in mind that my device is Official unlocked version and those who haven't had such issue will surely say that S3 is best phone bla bla bla but those who introspection me will understand the real value of mighty Galaxy S3... shame I switched from iPhone knowing that its iPhone killer but killer killed itself... so sad

Yeah. That's the new "Stops working after two days" bug that Samsung accidentally introduced into the new firmware. Unlike normal bugs, which usually appear immediately after a flash, this new bug waits two whole days and then pops up. A normal, seasoned Android user would have tried swapping SIMs, trying current SIM in another handset, and ruling out hardware problems before concluding the firmware was at fault. Clearly, your extensive iPhone experience has given you the wisdom to see past this clever deception, and immediately conclude that the firnware must be at fault. I'll know to track you down in the future for any tricky problems I might have. THANKS MAN!!!

1. try switching wcdma/gsm modes.
2. try some other sim
3. try a factory reset
if you still dont get signals, then possibly its related to corrupted "efs" folder.

Gotta give OP a break. We're not in the Q&A or Developer section so he's under no obligation to merely post up a question.
We can't keep replying to someone's frustration with immediate condemnation and "so go back to Apple." He's having issues, and is offering his rant. If I purchased a brand new device, ran an official update, and had things mess up, I'd be damn well pissed too. We don't need to white knight for Samsung. Nor should we give a **** what device someone is coming from.
I don't believe that it was the update, because you would have heard of more people complaining about this issue, it's one or two things,a defective device, or he works for Apple!

While you're right about us not needing to defend the device or company and we shouldn't rise to this kind of thing, there's a difference between ranting and trolling. Frustrated or not, there's no way anyone who owns a modern smartphone and registers here would have missed that playing the iphone-card on pretty much any android forum is a hot spot for flamewars. That's no way to find a solution, the only thing you'll find is a punch in the face and that helps noone.
Your argument is valid for any of the people replying too. You don't need to be a knight in shiny armor for the OP, the people responding is just venting frustration over what they find is wrong with the post. There's always someone who gets frustrated.

Not receiving all incoming calls

So I've had this issue for a while now. It went away and came back. People text me say that they are calling me and I'm not answering. The phone rings on their end normally and goes to voicemail, while my note 3 is literally sitting on my desk. I have full service and it doesn't happen to all calls. Some come through some don't, its very sporadic. Could it be a radio issue? Has anyone else had this issue? I have ran stock 4.3, stock 4.4, and numerous Roms. Its definitely not ROM related.

I think he's spamming for post count. If you've completely wiped your phone while installing numerous ROMs on 4.3 and 4.4.2 I would tend to think you're having radio issues. If you're going to call VZW unroot your phone, there's a chance they will check to see if you're tired and when they see you are it will void the warranty.

Yeah I've seen him on other threads. I really don't want a replacement refurb phone. Like for example today it happened once. My sister called me and I picked up and she said did you not get my first call I said nope! She said she can tell BC its rings a little weird. Like rings 3-4 times then just goes to voicemail. Who knows

lol... from your signature: "Its not the device....its operator error."
But seriously... A lot of people have this phone and aren't having the issues you are describing. I have the S7. It works perfectly (except the whole no root deal). But my girlfriend on the other hand also comes to me with these random issues.
Says the screen won't turn on, and the camera keeps crashing. Ok, so I look at it. The (cheap) case that she bought from Amazon is holding down the power button so when she presses it, of course nothing happens. And when the screen doesn't turn on via the power button she spams the home key, which is configured to launch the camera after a double tap. Hence, the camera keeps doing funny things. So yeah... operator error. But she's a smart girl. I told her about those things and now everything is fine. She got a new case and we turned off the double-tap home key camera shortcut. Problems solved.
Just gotta find the source of the issues man. These phones are legit. Good luck
Good for you, bye.

disable update nag
Is there a way to disable the update nag prompt? I am not going to update my phone, in the hopes that someday we will see a root option. I can swipe to remove the prompt, but it remains perpetually in my notifications. Is there a way to remove this?

Nothing for a specific notification. You could try long pressing on the notification and seeing if it lets you disable notifications for the whole app but chances are it would be something like SystemUI or other system app so even if it did let you disable all notifications for the app, you may miss others like the USB connection choice for example.
Disable ota
Package disabler pro.. It's a paid app but it's cheap enough and it certainly does the job.. you can disable system update plus partially debloat your phone if careful not to disable the wrong process.. it tells you what you can or cannot disable.. it won't free up space but it will stop the update notifications.. it's envitable that you'll accidently update sooner or later if you don't disable the nag notification..
A lot of times it centers around installed apps as well. Sometimes, all it takes is one to cause issue with the rest of the phone. Did you check on any "same" apps you installed? I've had this thing for a year now, some issues now and then, but was primarily due to apps..uninstalling, updating or finding a supported app was often the solution.
My wife has has an S7 also (a year into Verizon's Samsung devices as well), the only time there's issue is when she doesn't update the apps she has installed. A few of the same apps on different phones, but no problems.
As far as SDCARD issues, what type of card/brand? I had issue with SanDisk cards in my previous samsung phones, so I switched to only using samsung cards...no problems whatsoever since I've changed card brands.

What? This phone was only released a little over 3 months ago.
sorry, meant with Verizon's Samsung over the last year. GS7 since it's been out. Still no notable issues either way...at least nothing worth crying about.
We were with Sprint before for over a decade. Had Samsung devices since the GS"II" (yeah, that's #2), not many issues over the years at all.

I had to send the phone back to Samsung for repair and all they did was send it back with the old software.

Yes, it solved the issue. I'm holding off on updates unless someone can confirm that the QL9 update fixes this issue.
The phone did not pass initial QC and Samsung replaced some internal parts as shown in the attached pic (the main board assembly I assume). I had the phone back in a week with software QI5.
