New Owner of Xperia Z Tablet - Xperia Tablet Z General

:good: Hey everyone my new Xperia Z tablet arrives tomorrow, I am replacing my Xperia S tablet which was a pretty good tablet in my experience, but due to Sony offering no more updates beyond 4.1. I felt it was time to move on and sell it.
I ordered and received the Sony screen protector, I used the Sony brand on my Xperia S with good results.,I also ordered the cradle and I got a case from amazon ..
I already have a 32Gig Micro Card to put in the tablet.
I will check for any software updates first thing, not sure what version Sony will ship it with.
Any other suggestions would be helpful...

There's no need for a screen protector. There is one preinstalled. Many of us here remove that annoying thing.
Depending on how important the newest software is for you you can stick to sonys 4.2.2 software wich i very stable and working well or you switch to custom ROMs.
Personally i am running CM 4.4.1 (FreeXperia) on mine and it is a great and 100% stable ROM.

Just do not forget to backup your TA partition before you unlock your bootloader

Getting one next month
Hello, im also getting my Xperia Tablet Z in about a month, i have already planned on rooting it and installing a custom rom, im currently only owning a Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-i9300) which also is running 4.4.1 that is stable and works flawlessly with ART instead of Dalvik, will i be able to run ART on the tablet as well? (sorry for "stealing" the topic) xD

Yes (or should, as it has a Snapdragon processor). And, as I said before, don't forget to backup your TA before doing anything.

Thanks everyone, just got it and updated to the latest 4.2, shipped with 4.1.2.
Impressions thus far is Wow, what a lovely display..
Seems very snappy..
Updating apps at the moment and charging as well, came with about 60%.
If I understand correctly doesn't removing the protective layer Void the warranty..
Right now so long as it offers scratch protection I will keep it on...

Good to hear, think I will leave it for the time being for scratch protection and replace it at a later time..
Love this baby already...
Coworker bought my Xperia S and seems quite pleased...

Well looks like I have to return my Xperia tablet for a replacement , woke up this morning to find my tablet with a yellow line the width of a thread running up the left side of the screen, contacted support and they had me do a complete factory reinstall of the OS, but looks like it did not correct the problem, awaiting the return call to give them the bad news, he told me if it did not work they would set up a exchange..
Oh well these things happen..

Wow, not to pleased with my service with Sony, seems they don't do exchanges..WTF!!!!
Tech support transferred me back, instructing me to set up an exchange...
After several minutes the Sony rep comes back and states they do not offer exchanges, only refunds..
So I was forced to order another Tablet and pay for it of course since I will basically be without a tablet...
Then when Sony receives my defective tablet it will take up to 2 weeks to process the refund....Although they were kind enough to pay the return shipping...
Wow this is my first issue with Sony over the years and I find this a bit troubling especially on a tablet less than a day and a half old......
Heck Dell sent me a new Alienware laptop do to a minor problem and told me to hang on to my old one till the replacement arrives..
Thus no down time, but for Sony to offer zero exchanges only refunds on basically a brand new items in a bit stupid...

Actually it is pretty scratchy. It protects the glass under it, but if you don't plan on removing it because of warranty reasons, you may want to put a screen protector ON it.
It's quite stupid they put a plastic sheet on the scratch-resistant glass. But I haven't removed mine yet.

OK, Got my replacement in and thus far no screen issues, decided to put on the Sony screen protector and boy what a piece of crap, quickly dumped that idea..
Seems I now have a defect free tablet and could not be more pleased...

[Solved]Buy this phone now?... Bought it!!!

Hi,
I got 600$ to spend now for a phone, currently on T-mobile(USA) and my contract is ending this month(can get discounted phone for other 2 years of contract but all phone are ****xxx), and I want Android now as I am seek of WM.
So my question is to buy Xperia X10(considering cons of 1.6 android and no multitouch) or a different phone? Or wait fore some upcoming phones? Anyone got any ideas about this?
Thank you.
I will say buy it.
I bought mine from Taiwan becasue Band 1/4/8 works flawlessly with t-mobile 3g (USA)
And for some reason, some apps like google map perform better than my Nexus one (what the hell?), not just the app response faster but the gps just perform better. It is fater than my N1 when powering up the sat for gps and it will pin point faster than the N1.
timescape and mediascape is cool but I am sure media player is a really personal preference thing.
Camera is awsome with led that will blind you and can manually stays on.
Graphic is good thanks to the Sony screen.
design is beautiful I will say is one of the best looking cel in the market.
Anyway, don't get cold feet becasue of 1.6. This phone is FAST on performance and NO LAG at all.
PS, Sony confirmed X10 will get 2.1 update Q4 as early as Sept.
Re: Buy this phone now?
The x10 is a very nice phone, so definitely look into it. But if you have 600 for an unsubsidized phone, you should definitely consider the nexus one, it gets updates sooner, already has 2.1, will get 2.2 very shortly and will have gingerbread (2.?) By the end of the year, also has the multi touch bonus. But they are both very solid phones, if your happy with standard the x10 is very nice, if you like to mod your phone nexus one is the go

Go for the Xperia X10, trust me. The only thing it doesn't have is multi-touch, but you can easily live without it. Especially with Sony's one-touch zoom.
Now, since it's getting even closer to getting rooted, you'll be happy with a phone that has good hardware, software, and aesthetics---- and yes, people do judge a phone by it's cover. (a sad lesson I learned with my p990).
Re: Buy this phone now?
Buy it. I sold mine and want to buy it again because I like it so much more than the nexus one. I can say that sony ericsson did a fantastic job customizing 1.6. They really covered up what google left out and later implemented in 2.1.
It's a solid phone. Just look at 2.2 and see if you need any of those changes. Then, browse the forum to read about other people's problems and complaints. Finally, try to go to a local retailer and try out the phones. Ebay has the X10i, which is what you should be looking at, for 525 from a new york seller. You should only buy the nexus from google, since it's the only way to get it for now; retailers have it but mark it up higher than the google price.
Good luck. I hope you find the phone that meets your needs.
I'm also a fellow T-Mobile USA user who has the Xperia X10i who came from a Windows Mobile 6.x phone.
Your best options are likely the Xperia X10i or the Nexus One.
You'll really have to think about the feature set and about what you want in a phone. I'd say the Nexus One is probably a better "all-around" phone if you want to tinker with your phone and always have the latest updates.
If you're looking for a more multimedia focused phone then I think the Xperia X10 is a better bet. It has a larger screen, a superior camera for photos and video, and from what I can tell a better out of the box media experience. Anecdotally, video files that i've created (ripped DVDs and some 720p H.264 clips) work on my phone but don't work on my coworkers' Nexus One and EVO 4Gs. Go figure. We're still trying to figure out why. Just know that with Sony Ericsson, you're going to be a little behind on the updates since they have a custom interface. However, SE does a decent job of filling the gaps and providing a "better" than standard Android Donut (1.6) experience.
Both are solid phones that "just work" and you'll likely never have to "reboot" them as often as you would a WinMo phone.
if you live in a hot country don't buy it. My X10 reboots when i'm outside and temperature is 35 deg. Celsius.
If i'm using navigation it reboots after a while on even lower temperatures. (screen turned on seems to add a lot of heat)
I live in US, San Diego, it gets hot here in summer but I don't think hot weather will be a problem. Check your battery maybe it needs to be replaced.
As about Nexus 1 ...well overall design is too ugly for me. I like good looking phones and specs xD.
I guess I will be heading to LA as soon as I have a day off and check it out, already called one store they say they have it with Tmobile 3g bands.
Could't find any sellers in San Diego.
My vote is firmly in the X10 camp. I've been an HTC fan since their first Winmobile devices were released in 2002-2003(?) but this turned me over. My latest Android phone was a HTC Dream and I was looking at getting the Desire until I had a chance to play around with an X10.
What set this device apart, besides the design and feel, was the screen. Even though the Desire has an OLED the SE screen looked way better. The 4" 16:9 display is great, perfect for watching TV-shows on the go.
The interface can be annoying but I installed the ADW launcher and love it.
If you want a speedy device with tons of "teh sexy" then look no further.
thanks

LOL more smilies than
Seems like the x10 has been rooted too.Definately a good buy.
the X10 got potential. Despite the rooted custom roms or the official updated rom from SE it is a good phone. Although some ppl complains about the issues right now, but it will eventually be solved as time goes by, and the X10 will be really an Kick-ass phone!
Definitely a nice device. When root comes for us, it will be propably the best
Have the phone, how about the update?
Done,
have it in my hands now.
It is a X10i (I am on Tmobile)with .14 firmware.
Quick question for updating with decrypted roms:
Mine says Country: Belgium, Customized. .14 firmware.
So i guess its factory unlocked?
Can I safely update with
X10i - Shipped
WWE_R1FB001---this one....?
Will it brand to the firmwares provider or how it works?
There is no guide and/or explanation about this firmwares and for what phones are they(branded or unbranded/unlocked!?)
Pls anyone would like to update immediately so I can some apps.
Thanks

Easiest thing to do would be to install SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) and run it. It ought to give you the latest FW available for your phone. If you're still stuck on an old FW after that I'd look into the mods but there's a fair chance you don't have to.
And considering it's ease of use it's a simple thing to just give it a go before investigating further.
HIH
I updated the firmware to .16 with the guide from esato.com and after that i tried the local decrypted rom r1fb001 latest anyway and when tring to flash it would give me some java error like unknown command java - javaflash.jar.
I have java installed.
After all i used Omni tool with their firmware customized and succeded to latest r1fb001.
Thanks anyway.
<mistake!>

Love it!

I'm going on my second day of owning this black beauty from T-Mobile USA. Coming from a sg2, this phone is a major upgrade for me and it only cost me $9 out the door. They took my old phone as a trade in and applied that to the up front cost. Since I'm still in contract they did some tweaking to my data package where I only ay $5 bucks for it and the added monthly cost to pay for the phone is esentially covered by the this little change to keep my bill the same!
Been eyeing this phone for awhile as I was tired with the same Samsung and HTC phones. Walking around an electronics story yesterday I saw the Xperia Z tablet. Made me want to buy it since it resembled the phone perfectly and sees like the two would be a great pair. Maybe later in the year since my current tab has no reason to be replaced.
Well I got plenty of threads to read through and information to absorb. I'm sure any questions I come accross have already been asked.

i'm thinking of swapping my htc one for it... is the screen ok on it? (i'm use to the samoled and the screen on my htc one is amazing)
My only other concern is the processor isn't as good as the htc one/s4
I'm undecided. Had my xz since UK launch and I'm disappointed with the rear panel raising up (need to discuss with my network ref a repair, but I know it will keep happening) and the camera can be a mixed bag. My other half has an HTC one, like it a lot.
Anyway, the xz. Glad to know the op is pleased with it.
I'm considering the new nexus, should be details in a few days
If i had an option i'd swap my htc one for a nexus... i'm only being offered s4/xperia z in exchange for my htc one, and i doubt they'd offer me a newer phone like the lg g2 or xperia z1

New Z1 owner. Just wanna say hi to everyone.

Sorry mods if this is a wasted post. I promise not to do it again. But I am super excited about my Z1 arriving next week. I was a former Verizon user days away from ordering a Droid Maxx when I learned about this waterproof beast of a phone. It was enough to make me ditch my unlimited 4g (selling on ebay). I'm excited to root this thing and start participating in the discussions here. Its great to see this level of support here. I've been looking over the sticky guides so I think I am caught up on the rooting process and what not.
So, is there anything else I should know or prepare for upon receiving this phone? Looking forward to chatting with you all.
welcome man, z1 is a great phone, perfect design

Also get a front and back screen protector and put it on the minute it comes out of the box.
For some reason unbeknownst to mankind, the people at Sony thought it necessary to laminate the scratch resistant Dragontrail glass with a satanic scratch prone plastic film.
They completely ****ed it up to be honest.
Yest soft lint will seemingly scratch it so make sure you cover both sides if you hate nasty scratches.

Also just saying Hi
Hey Guys
I don't normally do this but I'm SOOOOO excited about getting this phone that I also want to say Hi I should be receiving my Z1 tomorrow or Tuesday! It's an upgrade on my cellular contract :victory: Actually its the first time that I will be getting a current flagship device. I have been an avid Samsung supporter (old device is a Galaxy S2) but because of Samsung's unwillingness and flat out refusal to support the development community it has made me despise them to the nth degree! I will never, ever in my life get another Samsung device ever again! I originally wanted a Nexus 5 but South Africa does not (and it seems will never) provide the Nexus devices (tablets yes, but phones, no). They used too but stopped after the Galaxy Nexus. Trust me, a lot of people are unhappy about that in this country.
Anyway, the next option was Sony Z1 and to be honest, quite frankly I think I would have gone for the Sony anyway as this device is a MONSTER phone! The specs are outstanding and it will definitely be a top tier device for at least the next 2 years until my next upgrade. LOL, to be honest after Codworks and Entropy's praise of Sony, was the final deciding factor for me. I hope Samsung reads this because they lost a loyal customer and the dev community does indeed influence peoples choices, albeit the minority that we are but still, I have spread my hate wings of Samsung far and wide and have even influenced others not to buy them or go with their devices. Anyway, enough with the rants, I'm wiping my feet off on Samsung and that's that.
So proud to be a part of the Z1 community now! I know this device does have issues with unlocking the bootloader and breaking the camera but it has just recently being released so I'm pretty confident Sony will sort it out (as it is their flagship device after all!)
I never flash any of my phones with custom firmware or even stock from a different region until I have done extensive research on the device, so don't expect any silly questions from me as it will be a while until I know I am confident in what I am doing.
Anyway, hope you guys have an awesome day and I'm so exited I don't think I can even sleep well tonight!!

You should root it though, it doesn't need unlocked BL for that. And yea, Samsung is a no no from now on.

**Unofficial and slightly maverick British Z2 Thread.**

As every other country seems to have one, I thought I would start a British one. Loving my Z2 but I do have a few small issues which I hope will be resolved with software updates. Sometimes when I'm listening to music, the Track ID app would randomly open. I have removed this app. Today, Sony connect kept launching for no reason. My Phone had been "up" for 355 hours so I rebooted which seems to have resolved this issue. Still no sign of software update. I am currently on .55.
I came from the S3 as I was uninspired by the S5 but there are a few things I miss, such as having the settings menu from the bottom left key. I also do not like the way notifications and short cuts are split up. I am yet to test the waterproofing but am looking forward to taking some under water photos when I go on holiday later in the year.
Your impressions of the phone? What do you like and dislike about it? Have you had your free speaker yet?
The only issue I have had with my contract phone from 3 Uk is that it has froze 3 times in two days which required me to hold power and the volume up to reboot it.
It may have just been a rogue app misbehaving as it hasn't happened again.
There is an annoying nag with Audio sync issue when shooting 4K. I have a genuine Sandisk SDXC class 10 card which should be fast enough but there is clearly a audio lag of a second. It is also there when choosing internal storage too so it isnt the card.
I too came from the S3. Didn't like lagwiz but did like the community on here for flashing Roms. I suppose I really wanted, as close to, a stock Android experience and Sony has done a good job.
I too came from a S3. I was running CM nightlies and got fed up of the poor camera (not cm's fault) and lack of device support.
On a sim only 3 UK handset.
One niggle I have is the lack of full screen widgets, or at least no option to make them go full screen.
For example dashclock starts minimized which I found really annoying. To remedy this I am using Acdisplay which handles notifications really well. Be warned it does conflict with lightflow. I like it as it adds a screen before my pin where I can preview messages et al and launch directly into the app when sliding up.
I also really miss full screen artwork when playing music as well.
Apart from this I am pretty happy with the handset, I haven't felt the need to swap to a custom launcher yet nor have I had the need to flash and get on a non-UK .402 release just to be "the most up to date"
Nice thread, just received my 2nd Z2 a couple of hours ago, my previous one had the 'multiple touch issue'. Couldn't even text on it. I'm hoping that this one doesn't decided to go crazy one me...
Edit: I'm also with 3 and I received my BT speaker today as well. A black one too, kinda wanted a white one with me getting the white phone, but I'm not too bothered.

Great thread, now I can say what I think about these country specific monstrositys as it's my right to be here in the British section .
Time to tread carefully so not to offend or have the race card mentioned but..
I have always disliked the fact other countries decide even though XDA is an English speaking communitie and every user has a common interest, they must be different and have there own threads. It kinda disappoints me that no moderator can stand up and say enough is enough, we are all Android enthusiastics here so let's not discriminate against others and be the one community that can join together as a hole.
I understand about the fragmentation in Android but does it need to effect the XDA forums too?

I had the similar freeze issues on my 3 firmware, flashed a generic UK FW and everything is perfect since then. Give it a try. I even got few gigs of extra space on my phone memory which was filled by junk apps.

As far as I understand , the point of country specific threads is to discuss issues like shipping info, special country specific offers, country related firmwares and operator issues which are of no benefit to anyone from any other country. They are not to discriminate rather they try to streamline certain problems.
Coming from S3 too!
Still on .55 firmware, but I'll be rooting ASAP, well as soon as know I have no immediate h/w issues.
I too miss quick access to the settings, but I'll get used to it.
I also miss being able to switch to 2g, maybe this comes with the .402 update?
Look forward to a busy Z2 forum
Great idea for this a British thread ! i came from a rooted S2 running Omega V23 ROM and an Apollo Kernel. Had the phone for 3yrs . i like the size of the Z2 .. but not happy about the screen. i use the phone outside a lot and on a bright day i find it almost impossible to see the screen. The camera on the Z2 is fantastic ! such an improvement over my old S2 . i tend to find i loose the wifi signal on the Z2 a fair bit . checking emails it will just loose the connection. i am still on .55 will flash updates soon and see if it corrects the wifi issue . i hope soon that a way will be found to back up the TA partition so DRM keys can be saved . we shall see . :good:

Haha.. I have income in two of the three countries - so yes I pay tax in two countries. No income in Canada so no tax there!

Cheers pal!
Seeing as I permanently reside in the UK - I think this thread is for me. I've moved from the iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S2/3/4 and now onto the Z2. I can honestly say this is the best phone I have ever owned! Battery life, camera, size, premium feel, what more can I ask for? Got a SmartWatch 2 to go with it and I love the combination, along with my new bluetooth speakers (free thanks to 3!) and of course the Google Ecosystem which keeps me connected everywhere to everything work and personal.
Love this thread too by the way :cyclops:
I'm liking the love lol. I too am thinking of getting a smart watch. What do we think of the Sony? Are they a waste of money and just a gimmick?
The one that came with my Z1 was never used. Just not much a watch person and don't want one more thing to remember to charge...
Incidentally, I don't live in the UK but since all my phones come from Clove, I think I can participate on this thread

Hey guys,
I was just wondering if anyone here could tell me what the official length of support for the Xperia Z line is please? Obviously I got the Z2 but after reading about Xperia and how Sony properly over the past few weeks, I see they said they are now to release a new phone/flagship every 6 months. I have a feeling I *may* have made a mistake getting this phone in that case! Unless someone can confirm Sony has a 18-24 month support on devices in the UK, I don't see why I should keep a phone that may be redundant in the next 10 months regardless of development support.
Thanks in advance!
They've always had 1/2 year flagships, I wouldn't worry about it
2011 - Arc > Arc S
2012 - S > T
2013 - Z > Z1
2014 - Z2 >??
Recently they've not been so bad with updating older phones, some delay at times. But nothing to worry about IMO

Is it wise to buy the Sony Xperia SP now?

Is the Sony Xperia SP a good buy at $200. Should I go for it? What do you think?
Also, can you tell me why has the CM11 nightly stopped since 2nd July? This is a bit worrying.
Any suggestions guys? I need it quick please
Yes
Replied quick
ok no... well, here in Mexico u can get a good SP (no scratch, etc) in about $240 USD so.... doesn't sound bad one for $200.... I think is a good handset right now

Thanks! I am getting an imported piece from ebay. It is being advertised as a brand new item and what not but lets see if it is a fake/refurbished piece. Anyone with previous experience?

The first thing I look for in an android device is the Dev community support particularly CynogenMod. I hope they continue to support the Xperia SP for a long time to come. Many thanks for this information knightazura. You're the best!
Dude go for it if its about the price of moto g as over here in dubai xsp is cheaper than moto g and I just bought this unit a few days back and coming from the galaxy s2 and I have to say its very good phone....

Samsung Galaxy s4 mini is a better option I think..it has cm, It will get official android 4.4 on July, 1.5GB ram..much better colors on screen and a very good front facing camera
Bad thing is that xperia sp will be stuck on 4.3 forever....... But atleast there is cm.
My mom has the galaxy s4 mini and it's very good and better than xperia in many departments... The only ups of xperia is the gpu and resolution.

SGS4 mini was first choice but it is at least $170 more than the Xperia SP(I got the SP at a discount price of $200). So this puts the S4 mini in a different league altogether.

I got my xperia sp about 3 months ago. It still is an almost high-end smartphone. To be exact, it's still in the very upper hand of mid-rangers. It can beat up plenty phones in its category, and it's a reliable choise even now. Its processor might be somewhat old, but it's great for multitasking or everything else you'll need. As for graphics, the adreno 320 might be a bit old, but I haven't seen any recent mid-range phones with this g.p.u. except the xperia sp. In other words...it's like it just came out. Buy it and you'll be quite pleased you did. If you want to have kitkat though, there's no information whether this phone will get it or not, so be careful in terms of software.
If you asked me this a week ago I would tell you a straightforward honest no. I was fed up with the tiny problems that always occured and somewhat laggy app responses during use.
But two days ago I got the newest update .205, and everything changed. I finally feel like I got the phone I payed for, and there is nothing I could complain about, really nothing now. It's very smooth and fast in daily use, imidiately responsive, an unbelievable transformation from the former experience I had with it.
$200? Definitely worth it now in my oppinion.

I got the phone for my sister (I own the Xperia ArcS) about 2 weeks ago and it is even better than I imagined. Even the stock rom has very few bloatware compared to older xperia phones, extremely easy to root and with a good amount of RAM and internal memory. Plus it's the only 2013 xperia phone that will probably get the 4.4 kitkat update, If I recall correctly
Definitely worthy to buy, IMO
It's quite encouraging so far looking at the answers.
I'm interested in XSP as well. A few people in the official Sony discussion forum complained about low in-call volume. Hopefully those were some isolated cases. What is the experience of you all?
A big Thank You to you wonderful fellow Xperia SP users for your kind and informative replies. I have bought the phone(Got the C5302) and I love it! It is a very good quality phone for the price.

Although 4.3 is good for now, I sure would like to see official update(s). Sony's Timescape UI is the bomb.

I sure am pleased with it! The fact that it is still being officially sold by sony is nice to boot. Talking of the CPU and GPU, I quite like the CPU and the GPU. What I don't particularly like is the amount of RAM in the phone. There have been instances where the launcher takes time to load into memory after I exit a game or a heavy duty app. Not cool
I must admit the official updates bit is worrying but I took the plunge anyway(Yes, I live life on the bleeding edge).

Yea the stock ROM is very fluid and a pleasure to use. I dig it too! The amount of RAM is descent in this price range but a little more wouldn't hurt Rooted and booted too
I read reports that 4.4 was going to come out in June but since it hasn't, maybe they were just rumors unless Sony is lagging behind. I have a gut feeling that Sony will bring the kitkat update to SP before laying it to rest but I feel the SP deserves a lot more.
Need more RAM though for being able to run any future versions of android(Android L and beyond)

By all means, go ahead! It is a wonderful phone to own. It has a great build unlike the Samsungs et al. You must already know about the update bit where Sony will probably stop support after 4.3 JB or a maximum of 4.4 Kitkat. If you are okay with this and a little dearth of RAM, then this is a sweet little device.
But now coming to the serious bit, I am having issues with the auto brightness. I looked it up on the internet and came across many others having this issue too. I tried the Yet another brightness app ftom the playstore but it doesn't work for me either
P.S. Does Sony provide a way to change the settings menu to black color? White is too fancy for my taste
A query. My Xperia SP had this wallpaper on it. Somehow it doesn't feel right. Can someone shed some light on this?
http://imgur.com/E0afP2y
Also, there are no Live wallpapers by Sony on it( I am not sure about the Enchanted Forrest). Is this right?
