Kitkat on Brazilian Moto X - Moto X General

This goes to all my fellow brazilians! I just got off the phone with Motorola support and they have confirmed that kitkat rollout for Brazilian phones will start this week. They do plan on having all phones updates by Christmas!
This is almost like a new company

Hope they do like they say cause at least our retail version of Moto X is exactly the same as AT&T model so this wouldnt have to be an issue to this so late update. with fingers crossed!

awesome! \o/

Hi.
I feel like Motorola is a new company... I've been a terrible experience with the first Moto Razr and now I'm very satisfied with Moto X.
But I'm not so patient... I followed some instructions on how to flash kitkat from at&t (xt1058) with relative succes... Relative because I had to unlock my bootloader... But I have no regrets!
I recommend it!

Hi, I'm new to Motorola devices. Rooting and going back to stock was fairly easy on Samsung phones. I'm coming from a Galaxy S4 (terrible battery life, lag all around) and I'm pretty lost here now, haha hahaha. Why did you need to unlock the bootloader to flash the AT&T version? Isn't it the same model as ours? XT1058

Hi MaKTaiL! Welcome to new Motorola! Actually these process are easy, the thing is have attention on it.
The need to unlock bootloader on Motorola phones is that you open your phone to any custom and offical rom´s made for it. When you have bootloader locked you´re locked to that especific region and software. As Kitkat from AT&T it check the bootloader of your phone to verify that is originally from AT&T so the software can be signed to it. As a phone with unlocked bootloader, it wont check this status and will let you flash the software.
did i made it clear? Hope it helps.

Yes. That clarified a lot. Thank you very much! I have a few more questions if you will. I read that rooting can be achieved without unlocking bootloader. I'm currently running the latest firmware. Can I use RockMyMoto from Moto X Toolkit to root it? What if I would like to go back to stock (unroot it), what do I have to do?

The point is that Samsung devices already have bootloader unlocked or you will do it easily some time in the process to root, change kernel or things like that.
The Moto X comes with the bootloader locked for non developer devices, causing you to release these locks in order to flash some other carrier firmware.
Its simple as hell, but will cause you to loose the warranty.
Until now I'm patient about the Moto BR release time. But, if I see no efforts to release it until the end of this year, I will unlock and flash the at&t one... even tough the carrier name at top left notification sucks.
My guess is that camera had improve some how and I'm anxious to test it.

The only reason I need root is to install Cerberus app to system (really recommend it, two of my friends recovered their phones after they were stolen). But I still don't know if I should root it using the exploit or unlock the bootloader and flash SuperSU through a custom recovery. Still deciding,

That's great news ! I hope that Motorola do it.

Great news. But I'm kinda hopeless as even Rogers haven't released it yet.

I'm not sure if I really needed unlock the bootloader, but I have got some errors in the procedure and I thought that the problem could be the locked bootloader... Then I unlocked it and the problem was solved.
But I think that was a problem with my phone or something on my machine (I use a Macbook), because the procedure is intended to be done with locked bootloaders.

Guys, i just bought mine... there is some adjust i need to make at first, or just turn it on... and enjoy?

America Movil (Latin America) Moto X can be safely flashed to TMO Firmware

If you have purchased an unlocked MOTO X from Ebay or elsewhere chances are it is from Latin America and is running a really old firmware, something like AmericanMovil.EN or similiar. If you want to be more up to date and have the best radios possible (for TMO anyway) you can download the SBF files from here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost_rcica/list.php and flash in RSD lite after unlocking the bootloader through MOTOs bootloader unlock. I saw several threads discussing the possibility but no one who had actually done it. So happy flashing and enjoy your up to date firmware..
I only Tested T-Mobile but am pretty sure that AT&T would work as well, I am just a T-MO customer.

Apologies for the dumb question, but I just wanted to be sure I have the rough sequence of flashing correct here for an America Movil XT1058 (i.e. AT&T). Assuming I want to cut over to AT&T firmware from America Movil, is this roughly what I need to do? Am I missing steps?
1. Root the Moto X using Pwnmymoto (Mexico .apk from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444957)
2. Install Clockworkmod on the rooted Moto X
3. Download the AT&T XT1058 image (from here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost_rcica/list.php)
4. Use Clockworkdmod to flash the Moto X with the image from #3?
Is that right? If so, I'll just need to work out the actual specifics of flashing w/ CWM and so on, but I'm sure there are tutorials for that.

Last night I switched to 139.12.57.ghost_row.Retail.en.US (there's a flashable zip in the dev forum) and it doesn't have the bloatware ATT has. In fact, the APN settings where downloaded automatically and i got LTE. Seems like the phone can use any rom without problem
For any of you that have successfully flashed it with the AT&T, Ghost or other ROMs, would you mind doing a quick high level how to? i.e. here are the individual steps I used? I don't mean how to complete each step - that can be looked up - but when I see things like "Remember edit first the xml, you have to remove the getvar line on the xml" I get nervous, because I would not have known to do that.
What interests me most is your thoughts on the following themes:
1. It it possible to flash Rogers in the same way you flashed AT&T or TMO?
2. Is it possible to flash TMO sys with AT&T baseband or vice versa?
3. What about SIM unlock state, when you flash another cellular op, does it get locked?

That isn't a reason to not buy motorola. It was AT&T that forced motorola to not let it be unlocked. Instead you should avoid AT&T. All of the moto x phones that are NOT from at&t can be unlocked easily and officially. So if you want unlocked phones at&t is a bad choice.

And yet other phones by other manufacturers are updated, and Motorola decided mid-stream that there would be no more updates. After the 'fast updates' campaign that never really materialized, this was just too much for me. No Moto again.

How much was the asking price?
When you ship a phone from the US to Europe, there is a big chance of extra import duties (VAT etc.)
Also the bootloader can not be unlocked at this moment, so it's not yet possible to flash EU firmware..

The YouTube channel you linked to is called "Android Doctor" and your profile biography says "Im the Android Doctor" so it's obviously your own Youtube channel. There's nothing wrong with linking to your videos (unless it's against XDA ToS I guess) so why lie about it?

Your warranty is already lost, it's like trying to be virgin again. You can relock the bootloader, but you can't revalidate your guarantee.

Only the message for only cosmetic purposes? You need a modified boot animation. So far is not available for the G5. Only for the G5+.
But the device still will be out of warranty.
The warranty is lost in the very momento that your ask for the unlock code in the Moto website, even if you don't make use of it to unlock your device.

i got rooted my g5 but due to some reason i had to give service center and they replaced the twrp recovery to their stock
so i want twrp (phone is still unlocked but when i tried normal method it doer not detect my phone) back can you guide me
Hey guys in my case, I bricked my phone and it was not able to boot. Because I flashed the poly os Oreo zip file from sorceforge.net which is under development. But when I went to the service center, I told them that my phone was not booting, they didn't ask me anything and said we will check and let you know. After one hour they told me your handset is dead. They replaced the motherboard free of cost. I don't know how this is possible, because I unlocked the bootloader' and flashed the twrp.

They probably couldn't even identify the reason you had the phone not booting. I also think it's improbable here in my country they will check if your phone was unlocked or not unless your phone is booting for them to see. In other words if the phone doesn't boot at all and if it doesn't show any sign when connected to USB or whatever methods they have to see if your phone is booting, they will replace it.
I'm pretty sure however, that motorola keeps records of the phones which required the unlock code, and I doubt very much that in the United States they would not check it.
