[Q] How to reset password, when data and wi-fi are turned off? - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

My friend has Samsung GT-S6102, and in trying to change the pattern lock, he did something wrong, and now is locked out.
The next step is to enter his Google account login and password, which will let him log on and create a new pattern lock. The problem is, the phone has Wi-Fi and Data turned off.
I think he is now dead in the water, with no options left but to factory-reset the phone.
Is there any way to get the phone to connect to Google, even with Data and Wi-Fi not connected? If we could get 'data' or 'wi-fi' on, we would be all set - but unless there is some diagnostic way to do this from a connected PC, I can't see much else we can do.

Try rooting the device & flash cwm. Then use aroma filemanager to go to the path, '/data/system' delete the file gesture.key
Hit thanks rather than typing it now Free

How about if I both hit "thanks" (already done!), and also say thanks!!
I've been here to xda-developers before, and now have my own device to use to learn rooting and installing custom ROMs. Haven't done it yet. I suppose this might be a good time to learn, but if I mess up, my friend isn't going to be very happy with me.
Let me ask you two questions - if the device is "locked", how can I even root the device? Doesn't it have to be on, running, and ready for whatever it is I need to do? A second question might be how I find the information here to learn how to 'root' a GT-S6102, but I can try that in the morning, when I'm a bit more awake (am now in India, and it's 1am).
I was thinking there might be some kind of diagnostic code that could be sent to the phone from a PC, even though the USB connection is probably not on right now, to "wake up" the data or wi-fi, which would enable the normal process of connecting to Google to continue.
I think you're suggesting I root the phone and flash a new OS. If there is a way to do that, isn't there a way to just turn on data or wi-fi?

I found this from a list of codes:
#*3282# Activate/Deactivate Data
Now, if I could only find a way to get that command to the locked phone....
If I do some of the steps you suggested, can I get to a step where I can give the phone those instructions?
here's the full list:

1 - questions belong in question & answers section NOT development section
2 - answer has already been given plus iv posted it loads of times so please use search facility
Download aroma file manager & place on route of sd card (take sd card out & put in pc card slot or card reader)
go into CWM (flash temporary cwm zip if kernel doesn't have cwm)
mount system
flash aroma file manager
goto data/system
delete gesture.key
delete password.key
Restart

Thanks to all of you!
Sorry for the thread being in the wrong place....
I just came back here to say I found what might be the answer, which in fact originally came from xda-developers.com Here's the link, but since it points back to here, I probably don't even need to post it:
http://androidlegend.com/how-to-crack-unlock-pattern-lock-of-any-android-device/
Anyway, thanks to all of you for your help. Without this thread, I'd never have known where to look for an answer.
Any further questions I will post in the appropriate place.

Go In Recovery Mode And Wipe Data and Wipe Cache Partition ..........

Thanks to everyone for all the help. It's no longer an issue. They took the phone to a shop and had it reset to new, so it's in effect a brand new phone again. I guess it will at least be faster now.
I find it hard to believe that Google did things this way - it's good for security, but if someone's phone has data and wi-fi off, and a kid plays around with it and it gets locked, they've in effect, killed it.
I guess it's time for me to stop reading, and start doing. That's the only way I'm going to learn this stuff. Again, thanks!

did u reset d phone?? if no here is a work around .
1) insert a sim card that has incoming call facility (u must know the sim card no)
2) make a call and receive it
3) don't hang up.. after receiving when u r in call window it will let u access d notification dropdown window.. now u can activate wifi or data network mode as u wish..
so no need to reset!!

I know this is a stupid question (I am new), but what does the clear data option do? Wipe/reset the device of my personal stuff?

You will not need data, wifi to sign into google Account..

yes it will wipe all user data - this includes installed apps (not system apps) contacts sms and so on
if you want to remove the lock screen password you can do it without wiping data

you can flash this zip in cwm with system and data mounted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2192613&d=1376652536
it will remove the lock screen - if the lock screen does appear just enter anything you like
your sim card does not have to be in to do this although if your phone is set to not allow access without a sim card in you will need to edit your build.prop to allow phone use without sim

newbie with android

Ok let me see if I can explain my problem right. I got an android locked to t-mobile USA I am planning to but an unlock code for this phone but the problem that I encountered before buying the code is this this phone come with an application that when it start up it asks you to to set up your gmail account but I am in mexico I am not interested in having a gmail account how can I delete this application or stop it or skip it otherwise I am not going to be able to use the phone what can I do I like this phone but it is useless in the state that it is help
Not having a gmail account means you wont be able to use the market, your contacts wont sync, the included calendar app wont work very well. There may be other issues as well.
Do you hate google or what? A gmail account is free.
no thats not the reason I dont hate google it is just that at the moment when my android turns on it start up with this message
Setting up your T-Mobile G1 I tried to register but it wont register and I can not even use the phone functions the android stays on trying to register this what I do
i try to register then a message comes up that says that it may take up to five minutes but after a while another message show up and it says
there is a problem comunicating with google servers
this could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provioned for data services. If it continues call customer service
well the bottom line I really want to use this phone but how can I get pass this registering bull
here in mexico we run into this problems all the time our cell carriers suck basically i just want to be able to use the phone functions only if anyone can help I will apreciate it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316
You may need to downgrade to RC29 depending on what version your phone is currently running.
Also, I'm not sure if your carrier, or any at all, block by IMEI if a phone is reported stolen. I'm not accusing you of stealing, but, you know...

Ok... Long story short:
The G1 is a "google" phone and is dependant on data services and a google account to operate. That being said, the only way you can work around this without having a solid data connection (through your cell provider) is to go the process to root your phone and use one of the builds that allows you to skip google registration. I know TheDude's build lets you, I'm not sure which other builds do. By skipping the sign-in process you would still be able to use wireless internet to get your phone to sync with google once you turn on wifi.
Of course, your phone will have to be unlocked if it's not already.
I suggest you look at the development forum and start reading the links from the "round-up" sticky on the very top.
Thank you everybody for your quick responses but it seems that i am still stuck in the setting your account bull.- i try to root my android but i can even get to format my m sd card as a follow instruction in how to root phone it says to wait until mount show up on my screen how am i suppose to do that when my phone wont get past the setting up account screen can i format m sd card with adapter and then load the rc29 and put it back on my android and follow the rest of the intructions will that work i dont want to try it just like that has anyone else done like this is this going to brick my android.

Yes, if you have a card reader you could put the dreaimg.nbh, update.zip and recovery on your sd card and never have to mount your phone to the pc.
Or just use another device with a memory card reader or writer. Or even better, install ADB, go into the recovery window by pressing home+power and on your computer enter the ADB interface and type in
adb mount /sdcard/
adb push (location of firmware).nbh /sdcard/
and voila.
Hey I downloaded android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2 isnt this file suppose to have everything I need to work in my android but it doesnt where is ADB at and I am suppose to have and update zip and restore it doesnt say anything about that in development. I am liking this but it seems difficult but thats why I like it just show me where this files are at and I promise that I will at least brick my android lol not really but I hope I get it working. Well this are the instructions in how to root.
Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
Turn the device power off.
Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
see it doesnt say that I need and update zip and a recovery. But I might be wrong so where are this files at

all they need is the IMEI number, then they give the correct unlock code contingent on that.
and it'll be obvious that he's in mexico and needs his g1 to be unlock, so i'm sure they'll supply that code for him.

What do you mean? I have a quick question for you though, who is your carrier, and do you have the proper APN set up?

Sprint Cant Activate Service - Needs Kernel or someting - Total Noob

Hey yall,
I recently purchased what I consider to be one of the best phones one the market (Epic 4g) for the second time and this one I bought off of Swappa.com for $100. The phone is in great condition, with ICS which my last Epic didnt have, and it also has cyanogen 9 mod which my old phone didnt have either. I have never modified a phone or rooted them or anything like that. But I like the cyanogen mod so I dont mind it. The phone also has the latest clockwork recovery.
But the phone cannot activate with Sprint because the rep says the numbers have been wiped from the phone. I read somewhere that I may need a certain kernel that mimics the codes or replaces the codes or something?
Can anyone point me to a stable, reliable source for a kernel that will let me activate the phone and keep cyanogen 9 mod?
Sorry if this is just a total f**#$# noob question that makes you want to pull your hair out but I honestly dont know anything about the latest software or anything like that. However I am very resourceful and I got this far, I think I can install a kernel if someone could just point me in the direction of a good file to download.
Thanks in advance!

We don't have mobile odin. You will need to odin stock and the cwm recovery and nubernel so you can keep the recovery because samsung has it so stock recovery returns after a reboot, and nubecoder fixed that so you'll need his kernel. Then you can reflash cm9. Once the cm team or me include nexus s 4g ril and modem in a build, then we can make updating prl and profile and activating possible. With ours it is impossible.

Is there an updated link anywhere for the stock el30 multiboot for samsung epic? Any clue why the download worked at home but not on my work PC? It might be a firewall or something so I am going to go home and put the file on my thumb drive.

If he already has CM9 then he already has custom recovery (and root, etc) All he needs is the multiboot flashable to temporarily boot into the stock rom. The latest version is FC09 - I'll see if I can link to that thread, but it is in the development section (Epic 4G development)
EDIT: Here is the multiboot thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...te PRL and Calibrate Sensors for CM9 and AOKP
The OP of that thread contains a link to the correct page on the Epic CM team blog, in which you find full instructions, a link and the md5sum (definitely verify the md5 before continuing)
You will need your computer to extract the archive (most android apps for archive files seem to struggle with this one, and while I swear I did it successfully once, I have been unable to duplicate that result or find the app that worked), and it's generally easier to download on the PC as well to avoid a few quirks.

Ok so I got the file, now how do I install it or run it? Just put it on the SD card and then boot in recovery and flash it to everything? Do I need to unzip the files before putting them on the SD card or anything?

Yeah, I just noticed that TazFanatic had already posted it without a description - but the same link from two people is better than no links from anyone, I suppose
That archive needs to be extracted to your sdcard in a very specific directy structure. Check the instruction in the blog where you downloaded the multiboot, but I believe you should be able to extract to the root of the sdcard (with a computer, not your phone - I can't stress that enough) with the option checked to recreate the folder structure.
Once extracted, the actual flashable zip is found in the FC09 folder, which is in the multiboot folder (and may still be EL30, although I have an updated version which I was sure came from that page). Flashing that zip from custom recovery will not actually install anything, but it will reboot the phone after setting it up to boot the rom on the sdcard instead of reading the internal storage where your rom (CM9) is installed.
But as I said, that page should cover all of the details, so be sure to read it thoroughly and you shouldn't have any problems (or additional questions on the subject) from this point forward

Go to the settings screen (menu capacitive key, then "settings" on the touch screen - just in case, I don't know how familiar you are with android or the Epic so I'm just covering the bases, lol)
From there, look for the "storage" sub menu, where you'll be able to see if the phone is detecting the sd card (if you have the card in and it does NOT give you the option to mount or unmount the sd card, then it thinks no card is present)
If the phone is also not detecting the sdcard, then it sounds like the card was corrupted - you may have to reformat it, which will erase everything on it. If it is detected, then maybe rebooting your computer will clear out whatever is preventing it from detecting the card when you put it in the computer... but it sounds like you'll most likely find that the phone isn't even detecting it - try rebooting the phone and checking it again under storage, before you start worrying about reformatting the card...
Also, for everyone else following along - this is why you should not sell a phone with a custom rom on it. Too many problems, better to give the new owner a link to xda and let them decide if they want to take the leap

Also, for everyone else following along - this is why you should not sell a phone with a custom rom on it. Too many problems, better to give the new owner a link to xda and let them decide if they want to take the leap

I'm a huge noob at this... the phone was in android debug mode so it wasnt showing the device to the computer. Got it now I think I can figure it out.

I thought you said the computer wouldn't read the sd card even if you took it out of the phone and put it into the computer? Hopefully I misunderstood - your wording above seem to suggest a successful usb mount...
I'll keep checking this thread periodically just in case you need more help (I tend to neglect my PMs, or I'd say send me one, but posting here will reach more of our knowledgeable and helpful users)

Thank you to all who participated in this thread. I did themultiboot and it automatically activated OTA. The sprint rep already had my account linked to the DEC number, it just needed to send out that proper signal. Thanks again to everyone here who helped me.

Now what badass stuff can I do with this cyanogen that I couldnt do with my old Epic??? What re yall's favorite features?
Can anyone tell me how to add icons to my desktop or homescreens? I want to add apps and contacts on my home screens and I cant figure out how. Its not the same as on the old epic, now when I hold on the screen it just pops up the wallpaper selector, I can't add a shortcut, someone tell me what to do?

Your first question is quite broad, so I highly recommend reading the EpicCM blog site and the official site, cyanogenmod.com, because there are so many features that we will likely forget a few (unless we read the web pages for you, but then you have to trust our summaries... anyone remember the telephone game from childhood? Best to go straight to the source, lol)
That doesn't mean we won't try, of course... but I can't decide on a favorite feature, lol. The theme engine is a well-known feature that is almost a CM exclusive (it originally came from T-Mobile phones). I'm currently on the CM7 side of my usual cycle of roms, so I have to work from memory until I decide to switch back (I stay with 7 most of the time because I can't afford a decent replacement battery, lol)
As for homescreen shortcuts, both apps and widgets can be found in the app drawer - long-press and drag to drop them on the homescreen. There may be a direct dial widget (I haven't messed with direct dial shortcuts since long before CM9, so no guarantees on this part) - dropping it on the homescreen should open a dialogue where you can choose the contact to shortcut to. I know that other widgets that have variables that lack logical default values, like the direct navigation widget, work that way... I'm just not 100% sure if there is a direct-dial, or just a shortcut to the contact info

Ok that works for apps, what about putting specific individual contacts as shortcuts on the homescreen(s)? Can't figure that one out... need to get my wifey on there... thanks in advance y'all.

[Q] [SOLVED] Forgot my pattern & Email (Password still in mind)

Hallo,
I am using CM7 on my little Samsung Galaxy Y, but forgot the pattern I set.
I tried a lot, and after that, I remembered it again, but it is not useful anymore, it is asking me for my Gmail account, I KNOW the password, but can't remember the email anymore.
How can I get my SMSs (I only need them for very important number there).
Thank you.
Do you have usb debugging on you device? If yes, download android sdk and run those commands:
adb -d shell
sqlite3 data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
update system set value=0 where name=’lock_pattern_autolock’;
.exit
exit
adb reboot
Click to collapse
or
adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key
exit
adb reboot
Click to collapse
If you dont have, i think a factory reset is needed :/

This might be silly but it might work too (I have not tried but heard that it works) Insert sim card in your Galaxy Y, Dial your number from any where else (Frens cellphones you might pay him for that) Accept the call Don't end call rather press the button one at middle (it minimize your calling process) and navigate to Message and note that number. In that process try this too If play store can be started while minimized calling download any lock-screen application apply that And you should not flash it.
If above didnt work few suggestions Just copy the clockwork mode to SD card (Send it via SD CARD) Now backup the OS and flash it to default rom if you want to use it now for calling purpose or using it and you can revert it's backup and try entering password again in future.
If it really worked Please look at thanks button below

The only solution is a data wipe through recovery.. A message to your friend.. Next time
1.remember your pattern
2.add a google account
3. Have a nandroid backup available with screen lock disabled
You will need :
Android SDK
----
- Connecte Phone with PC
and run This adb command
" adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key "
reboot then , recreate a patern lock

Is it gonna give us a chance to recreate the pattern.??
**rooting is new for me...and i am noob to root...**
you will
after reboot you can passe the lock using any patern
after that change it or disable it

Let here try: if she remembers gmail address she should type it in. Since she doent know password she should type "null" without he quotes and she should be able to access the phone. Both email address and password should be in lower case (small letters ). I haven't tried it but got it on the net. I doesn't hurt her to try it though.
Frankly best option for a noob is to do factory reset and loose all data (tell her her pics and music will not be lost a they are on sdcard iand if in doubt take out sdcard before factory reset/ data wipe).
No need to download sdk and possibly samsung kies and am sure she did not enable usb debugging on her phone

[MOD] Disable Mobile Data On First Boot

What's this?
As the title mentioned above, It disables your mobile data right after flashing a rom through recovery so that your money won't be deducted after boot
Personal Information
For me, I use it because I use a prepaid card and every time the mobile data is enabled after boot. It deducts some amount of money from my prepaid causing me to lose money every time I flash a new rom.
What is modified?
apns_conf.xml which can be found in system/ etc
How to flash?
1. Flash any custom rom that you would like to use through recovery
2. When it's done, go to mounts & storage and mount /system
3. Flash MobileDataOff.zip from attachments below
3. Reboot system and enjoy a safer way to flash roms
If you have any questions or requests, please feel free to comment below and make sure to hit thanka if this works for you. :good:
And your really think only the empty file is the solution?
<apns version="6">
</apns>
Just look into this thread. In the script the original conf is restored after the initial copy of the empty file.
And there is a hint that pressing the end call button might help instead (didn't try because I do not need it).

Been there done that. Sometimes some roms have setup wizards which takes quite a while to load. And sometimes for what reason my prepaid decreases from a 2 to a 1 digit number. That's why I decided to do this mod.

yup the reason I made this into a flashable zip is because some people [like me] don't know how to run scripts or adb.
Okay going to update this to include credits and a restore file so that it does the same function as the script

How about removing the sim before flashing...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
well, nice.
i usually insert a spare sim with zero balance (i knw we all hv spare sim cards). this way i setup everything reatore titanium backup, contacts etc. n finally i change my sim to the one which i normally use..
ummm hmmmm??
and NO.. few ROMs out there want sim to be insrted so this might do the trick to fool Newly flashed ROM..
