question about updating AOKP

Hi all I'm on AOKP build 3 ATM and I want to upgrade to build 4 but I don't want to wipe everything and have to reinstall all my apps and etc. How do I upgrade to build 4 without doing so? Can I just clear cache and dalvik cache and flash the new build?
Exactly.

(Q) rasbean

Alright I'm doing something wrong. I'm coming from stock with Franco kernel. I wipe system, cache/devik. Then I flash Q rom/Ras gapps, der kernel trinity four. I think this is the trinity that's mentioned in the post.
Well when I'm done I get a boot loop.
Were did I go wrong?

no, youll only lose your user data. if you only wipe data/factory reset, your storage wont get touched. no need to wipe anything else. wipe data, reflash the rom, gapps, and trinity kernel, then you should be fine. whenever you flash a new rom(not an update to the same rom), you want to wipe data/factory reset.
Just needed to factory rest, thanks guys
Under kernel info I get dirty-morfic, is that trinity?

I cleared the Davlik cache but do not know how to clear the cache partition. I am running Clockworkmod recovery.

I believe "Wipe cache partition" should be in the main/initial menu of CWM. I have CWM on both my phone and my tablet, and thats where I see it. If you can't find it there, look for Cache, advanced or anything similar. Shouldn't be very big layout changes between versions.

Cache/davlik

Is it safe to just randomly clear the cache and davlik every once on a while? I have a cache cleaner but I updated my gapps and my phone seems to be running differently now. Thinking it could be due to flashing the new zip. Any comments?

yup - no harm in wiping cache/dalvik. i try to do so at least once or twice a week.
Thanks. Appreciate the input!!

What does clearing the cache and dalvik do anyway?

It is kind of like defragmenting a computer. Gets rid of temporary files that are useless and helps the phone to run smoother.

"Blame Tyler"

I'm having problems with a lot of apps, mainly Google maps. The apps will close constantly, saying something like "blame Tyler" please help!!! I use maps daily for my job, and this is very frustrating.

What Gapps did you use? Have you tried wiping cache and dalvik? What date of pac are you using?
I don't remember what gapps, I'll have to look on my laptop, but the build date is 12/5

You should wipe dalvik and cache and see if that helps. Only use the gapps that is listed at the op of the thread you got the rom from. Also might as well try an update as well
