[Q] How to set a delay for the keyguard on non-rooted Note3? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Lets see if anyone can help me find a solution to this... (I posted this in the AT&T Note3 Q&A forum also, since it didn't look like they cross over to each other any, and I want to get as much help with this as I can.)
I have a non-rooted AT&T Note3 and have the corporate exchange email setup, which sets the requirement to use a PIN to secure the phone.
Using the lock screen PIN doesn't bother me, because I am able to set it to not ask for the PIN again for 30 minutes, which has worked well for my needs. I must keep the PIN activated on my phone though due to company requirements.
BUT...I hate the keyguard (swipe to unlock) feature! It activates way too quickly after the screen turns off. Before, with my original Note1, I had a custom rom that let me set a delay for the keyguard, so that if the screen turned off, I had 15 seconds to turn the screen back on without it activating the keyguard.
So, does anyone know how to either set a delay for the keyguard, or to disable it completely on a non-rooted Note3? I would prefer for it to be a delay, but this keyguard activating so easily makes me wish it was just completely gone!
I have tried a few of the available apps in the appstore, but none have worked so far. They usually have trouble with the Exchange email PIN requirement being in effect, even though I'm not trying to disable the PIN. I'm only wanting to do something about the keyguard feature.
I've used Touchdown for my email with my Note1, but am trying to keep from going back to using it. The new email package on 4.3 (and 4.4) work pretty good for my corporate email needs without needing all of the bells & whistles that Touchdown offer. Please don't offer Touchdown as a solution at this point. I'm currently only interested in solutions using the stock email apps.
Thanks!

I don't have a "Lock automatically" under the Lock Screen setting.

I do have the Secured lock time set to 30 minutes though, which is what keeps the PIN request from popping up constantly, but it does not stop the "swipe to unlock" from appearing.

What version of the Note do you have? and which firmware?
I'm using the International Unbranded on BTU XXUDMJ7 -
Edit: sorry for some reason I cannot see your attached image
2Nd EDIT: OK i see it now, hmm seems your settings are vastly different to mine.

Maybe it has something to do with the actual lock feature used.
I use Pattern, when I switch to Swipe and PIN the options change. Try with Pattern maybe?

Yeah...I'm having some trouble getting images to show up in my posts....It is just being a pain in the butt tonight.
I am only allowed to use PIN or Password. Our office has the other options locked out.
Mine is the N900A (AT&T). I'm on the BMJ5 version which was just pushed out recently.
Thanks for trying though...

I would go with the lock features used then by the sounds of it, seems like on PIN or Password you cannot change certain features.

I've GOT to find a way to disable or delay that dang Swipe to Unlock screen! It was just driving me nuts a few minutes ago. I would look away from the screen and it would cut off, and within 1-2 seconds, I would reach over and press the home button to wake it back up and then have to do the Swipe to Unlock thing again. That is going to drive me CRAZY!

[HOW TO] Use NFC to unlock your Note II directly into your favorite app

This quick tutorial will allow you to use an NFC tag to wake up your phone and launch directly into your favorite application. It will also bypass any PIN/pattern/password you have configured.
I've been trying to do this for a while and have been hunting down information/tools in XDA to try to unlock my pattern protected Note 2 and directly launch my remote app (Unified Remote) when I touch the NFC tag on the living room coffee table. The biggest challenge was to find a NFC screen-off mod that worked for the Note 2 (most were for the S3).
Tools:
Tasker (important: make sure you update to the latest version)
NFC Task Launcher
Writable NFC tags
Secure Settings (be sure to enable Device Admin)
NFC Screen Off Mod (attached), got it from here. Confirmed working for stock LJ1 and LJ3 odex rooted. WARNING: This mod might work on stock 4.1.2 but will cause annoying popups saying 'NFC Service has been stopped'.
Root (but I'm guessing if you have any of the above you're already rooted)
(optional but recommended) Titanium Backup
(optional) Unified Remote
1. Use TB to make a backup of your NFC Service apk (in case you get issues after flashing the modded one)
2. Flash the attached NFC Screen Off Mod using CMW
3. Create a task (Wake) in Tasker with the following actions:
EDIT: Make sure Tasker has 'enabled external access' option switched on in settings (Thanks SenK9)
Plugins -> Secure Settings -> Wake Device -> Screen and Keyboard lights on (30 sec or whatever you want)
Plugins -> Secure Settings -> Keyguard -> Off (this will also disable any PIN/pattern/password you have)
(optional) Misc -> Say -> "Device is awake" (or whatever you want it to say)

}
4. Prepare a writeable tag in NFC Task Launcher with the following actions:
Tasker -> Tasker Task -> Wake (or the name of your task)
(optional) Launch application -> Unified Remote (can also place this in your Task but I prefer to keep them separate since I use my task for other things as well)
[Add whatever you want to do here (launch app, play music, etc..)]
Note: Keyguard disable didn't work for me at first, so you may need to reboot your phone.
That's it! Hope this helped someone
Let me know if this works for you and if you have any recommendations or improvements I'd be happy to update the post with your suggestions.
Good work gabster21! Work well for me on stock LJ3. Followed your instructions and it worked without problem. Much better than the Samsung TecTiles app that I've been using.
Glad to hear it worked!
On a similar note I just finished automating my phone to start my favorite playlist on my HTPC using NFC with the screen off. It involves EventGhost (with several plugins) and sending an http get command from Tasker. I can post a tutorial on that if people are interested.
Can confirm that this mod works on N7105 (deodex LJ4), thanks!
Any idea why step 3 above only unlocks the screen temporarily before it locks again? I'm using standard pattern lock.

Strange.. Keyguard Unlock didn't work for me at first either but a reboot fixed the issue. Try adding something to the task (like some sound) for debugging to see if the task is executing properly.
I personally use tasker without nfc. (probably will try nfc soon) For instance, when I get in my car and plug my phone in my aux, the phone automatically opens up Poweramp. (power amp has an option to continue playing on aux insert but not just opening the program.) Also when poweramp is running I have it disable my pattern lock.
Hey guys, just getting into some of this stuff, particularly with tasker.
Boodies, can someone conceivably set up the tasker so that the NFC tag is on the back of the cardock for my Note II and when my phone comes into contact it arms GPS and pops up poweramp as part of the same action?

You would to have 'Secure Setfings' installed (with Helper) need to setups a task with these actions:
-> Plugins -> Secure Settings -> GPS -> ON
-> App -> Launch -> Poweramp
Then call this task from NFC task launcher programmed in a tag

Hi,
I really dislike some security apps forcing all kinds of things(virus scanner) into an application which I only want to use to remotely control my phone. So I wrote aeGis.
aeGis allows most of the functionality you'll see with Lookout or Cerebrus, but handles it locally on your phone via SMS with no data connection being required to complete any of the actions.
If your phone ever goes missing or is stolen, simply text the passphrase you chose to your device to activate any of the four options. aeGis will alert you if the action has been successfully completed.
Features:
- Ability to remotely lock your device via SMS
- Ability to remotely enable sound on your device via SMS
- Ability to remotely locate your device via SMS
- Ability to remotely wipe your device via SMS
- Ability to lock application with a password
- Ability to launch application from Dialer(so you can hide it from your app tray)
- Ability to backup call logs/sms logs to either Google Drive or Dropbox
- Ability to silently trigger actions
Support
Supports android device > API 14(Ice Cream Sandwhich)

Gmail SMS appending issue . I'm locked out . I set a number as pin in aeGis, but this is asking for a word. I did try default password "aeGis" but it isn't working either. pull the xml file and password "1234" just what I set. but this isn't working.

So looking at your issue a bit further. Gmail SMS appends: " - [email protected]"
So your password would be: "passcode - [email protected]"
Anyways, I fixed the issue in v1.2.3 with this commit: https://github.com/Decad3nce/Aegis/commit/c116d3e0b2975d37ad0b3dabe0e79c2cb7edd7ec
Code:
password = password.replaceAll("([^[email protected]\\s]+)(\\.[^[email protected]\\s]+)*@([^[email protected]\\s]+\\.)+([^[email protected]\\s]+)", "")
.replaceAll("-+","")
.trim();
Good regex saves lives.

Thanks. I give it a try today.:fingers-crossed:If it had been a pin, the keyboard could have been dial pad. Had to wipe for the 3rd time. :silly:
so In this case it should be "[email protected]". And youremail should be replaced with my email add. Well it is isn't working either. I'm using ver. 1.2.3.
So anyother wipe ?
Any way to add the option to disable persistent notification?
T-Mo'd S3
Already is disabled in new updates.
Is there any reason other than lack of using backward compatible API options that this doesn't work on pre ICS devices?
Despite what you may think, there are a lot of not so old devices that do not have working/reliable ICS, such as the G2X. Limiting an app to ICS at this stage is rather..... annoying.

I was planning on adding backwards compat, but I wanted to keep the same theme. I'm still learning as I go, I'm sorry you find that annoying.

Understandable.... from what I've been playing around with in Eclipse, you can specify a different theme for older API levels. Might be something to look at if the theme is the only limitation

I would like to know this as well. And how do you change the alarm notification sound? It seems to be linked to my same email notification sound. I would like to control just the alarm sound through the app, not have it affect other notifications if that makes any sense.

The alarm is meant more of a way to override your sound settings to take the device out of silent mode.
The email sound you explain is just the sound by the messaging app most likely which is your default notification sound.

Note 3 LMT/PIE Discussuon

Any questions, tips, etc? Let's talk here.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Thanks for the help on the pie controls! I really appreciate it, it's just something I never really used on the Nexus, nor used the LMT itself. But without a pure AOSP build, I feel it needs tweaked a bit to get back to a little more familiar grounds. (No Nexus 5 on Verizon .. grrr)
I think I was getting myself confused a bit thinking those tweaks could give me our 3 normal softkeys to replace my physical and capacitive ones. I know it was possible on the Note 2 from reading but it didn't seem to happen without a bit of troubles. Either way, I am rooted now and have removed some of the bloat apps. I am now considering going back into the custom realm on ROMS.
Thanks for the tips!
Im trying to map a shortcut for screenshots but so far none of them have worked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37823525&postcount=3328
maybe i can just find an app and map that.
Nevermind updated to the newest build and screenshot is an option.
Is the default input device #4 the best for N3?
I replaced 1 pie button and the other defaults went missing, any way around that, I would like to replace them one at a time?
When blacklisting apps I have to scroll through ~400 app list to remove non ui sys services then select one at a time, is the list a file somewhere that can be edited by other means?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'default input device'. As you set up PIE you can customize the number of tiles (up to 5) and have up to 2 levels of tiles, for a total of 10 possible shortcuts. The first level is set by default to be Android navigation buttons (soft buttons), 'back', 'home', 'menu', 'search', 'multitasking'.

If these defaults have gone missing, or there are less than 5, PIE will reduce the number of 'buttons' that show up when activated, i.e. graphic UI will be adjusted
I could reduce each level of PIE down to 1 'button' if I choose.
Now that I'm thinking in this context, I'm guessing that is what you mean by "default input devices". If I am reading you right, you can set up to 5 and there will be no issue for the Note 3, likewise say that you only wanted three 'buttons' or 'input devices" (Home, Back, Menu) that wouldn't be a problem either. PIE will adjust the Graphic UI to match your settings, there won't be 5 'buttons' on screen if you only set 3 of them. I hope I'm being clear?

Can I ask why you want to Blacklist an application? Once I set the apps I want in my PIE I don't worry about the other apps I have installed on my device. I set those to be my most used apps, for the particular device om setting up. For instance, my Note 3 2nd level PIE app shortcuts are these
I have them set, and if I need to change them I just sift through the apps and replace them (I agree it does take some time to load, but once you have it set as you launch PIE it is seamless). I guess I don't understand why you want to Blacklist an application, when you only need to set the ones you want to have appear on the PIE launcher. Not that you need to validate your reasons to me, unfortunately I don't use this feature myself so I don't think I can be very helpful about this. Hopefully someone else might be able to lend some advice.
Let me know if I was on target about your question on setting the 'buttons' up.

Input device below, default is #4:
The reason I asked is the only pie position that works is bottom center, at first the default right worked but once I changed it, I can't put it back and have it work.
I guess the button setup as you described isn't so bad.

Oh, gotcha. Gesture input is a different set of features in LMT and not invloved with the the operation of PIE. This allows you to set actions that will launch when you complete a gesture.
Much like PIE once you select one of these options it will take you to the list where you can select the action to be completed.
You don't need to set any of this up in order to use PIE, The default for all gestures is 'None'.

You were right, I am using pie all the time now. It really shines for multi task where you can switch from one app to another directly, without going through recent first. Thanks for the turn on!

LMT/PIE is really cool and I just wanted to drop in to let you guys know about an app that's very similar called Switchr
He recently implemented an "Arc" style that's just like PIE, and which one you choose to use is just preference IMO
Big difference is the "Live switching" just imagine using PIE but as you swipe over your overlay icons, the foreground app changes instantly vs PIE where you have to release your finger to trigger the switching
To clarify, By blacklisting an app in LMT/Pie you aren't saying don't show up in the choices of apps. You are telling pie controls to not work or appear when using certain apps. So if i didn't want it to appear in Internet so I can still use its pie controls, I could black list Internet.
I don't use the feature but some people do. I never use ISA or gestures. But have been using pie since beans in the s3. Had it in my note 3 a day after the first root exploit came out after launch. So Worth it

16 Things You Can Do In Android Lollipop That You Couldn't Do In KitKat !
After what feels like a long time since we saw the L Preview first appear, Google is now rolling out the final version of Android 5.0 Lollipop to its existing Z series.
You get to know the best version of Android yet by working through this selection of tips and tricks,
covering all of the new features, major and minor, that are built into the operating system.
1. Tap and go
When you're setting up your new Lollipop device for the first time, you'll be presented with the option to "tap and go."
This NFC-and-Bluetooth-powered data transfer lets you move all
of your Google Account details, configuration settings, data and apps
over to a new device just by placing your old phone or tablet against it.
Widgets and wallpaper are swapped over as well.
2. Use the flashlight
Flashlight apps have always been popular on Android,
so Google has decided to roll one into Lollipop to save you the trouble of having download a third-party one.
Pull down the notification drawer then tap the top bar to
reveal the flashlight app alongside other options like airplane mode.
The app will only appear if your device has an LED flash alongside its camera.
3. Prioritize your apps
Android 5.0 Lollipop lets you set up a list of important apps that
are allowed to disturb you even when most aren't.
Head to Settings -> Sound & notification -> App notifications
and you can choose to block each app or mark it as a priority one. Tap the volume slider on your device to activate priority
mode indefinitely or for one hour (a circle with a stripe inside will appear in the status bar).
4. Deal with notifications from the lock screen
In Lollipop all of your app notifications appear on the lock screen ready
for viewing. Not only that, but you can interact with them as well.
Swipe to dismiss, tap to reply and so on,
depending on the app in question.
A double-tap gets you into the relevant app.
Head to Settings -> Sound & notification ->
When device is locked if you want to hide sensitive alerts.
5. Pin apps
If you want to hand over your device to one of your kids or a friend,
you can "pin" them inside one single app.
First, activate the feature via Settings -> Security -> Screen pinning.
Then, when you activate the multitasking screen via the
square Overview button, you'll see a pin icon
appear in the lower right-hand corner
of the bottom app (drag it up if you can't see it).
Holding down the Back and Overview buttons is enough to
exit the pinned mode and get back to other apps. When you activate the pin,
you'll be asked if you want to use a code or pattern to unlock it.
This is tied to the same protection applied to your device,
so if your lock screen isn't protected by a code or
pattern then the option won't appear when you're pinning apps.
6. Jump to app settings
The lock screen really has been given a major overhaul with
the Android 5.0 Lollipop update,
and the improvements include the ability to jump
straight to an app's settings or information panel right from
the lock screen. Long-press on
any notification and (depending on the app) you'll see a cog icon (the app settings shortcut)
and an info icon (the app notification settings shortcut).
7. Predict battery life
New to Android 5.0 Lollipop is the ability to see how much time is
left before the battery runs out of juice,
or how long you need to wait before your device is fully charged up.
Tap on the battery icon in the notification drawer to see either
reading (the time-until-charged information also appears on
the lock screen a few minutes after you've connected
your device to a power source).
8. Search settings and networks
Google's search bar is getting more ubiquitous with each
passing version of Android, and in Lollipop
it's made it into the Settings app.
Tap the magnifying glass icon to use it.
It can be a quick way of finding a particular option
you're looking for, especially if you don't already know what menu or
heading it's under. You can use the same feature
to bring up saved Wi-Fi networks too.
9. Enter Guest Mode
Sharing devices with other people
(friends, colleagues, family members, distracted children)
can be a real pain, but Lollipop's new Guest Mode eases it somewhat.
You can access Guest Mode by dragging down
the notification drawer, tapping on your user account avatar,
and then selecting Add guest from the menu
(or just Guest if you've been through the process before).
10. Improve text legibility
If you were wondering if the Accessibility
menu within Settings would get overlooked
in the Android 5.0 upgrade, there's a new experimental feature
here called High contrast text.
Essentially, it gives white or difficult-to-read
text a black outline when it's being viewed on a light background.
It's applied to the "OK Google"
text inside the home screen search bar, for example.
11. Chromecast more quickly
There's an official Chromecast app from Google that
lets you screencast from any device running
Android 4.4.2 or higher, but the functionality
is built right into Android 5.0, which is great
news for anyone with one of the compact streaming
dongles to hand. It's right in the notification
drawer—tap on the Cast screen icon to locate your Chromecast and begin screencasting.
12. Add trusted devices
A trusted device is a specified Bluetooth or
NFC-enabled gadget that will automatically
disable the security code or pattern on your your
Android phone or tablet when it's in range.
This means you don't have to fiddle around
unlocking the Lollipop device when you're at home
or in the car, for example.
Head to Settings -> Security -> Smart Lock to set up the feature.
13. Hang a 'do not disturb' sign
This works a little bit like the priority app notifications we
mentioned earlier, but it's based around times and
days more than apps.
Go to Settings -> Sound & notification -> Interruptions
to set it up—it's perhaps best used overnight when
you don't want to be disturbed, but there is the
option to let certain contacts through as well as messages and alarms, if necessary.
14. Get back to your apps after a reboot
If you reboot your device in any version of
Android before 5.0, all of your recently opened apps
will disappear. In Lollipop, they're still present
on the Overview screen,
so you can quickly get back to a previous conversation
or website if you need to (not all apps
will remember exactly where you were in the app).
To remove a card from the list, swipe it away to the left or right.
15. Play Google's Flappy Bird clone
Like earlier versions of Android, Lollipop has an
Easter egg to unlock. Go to Settings -> About phone
then tap quickly four times on the Android version entry.
Once the Lollipop graphic appears, tap quickly on it several
times then finish with a long press to launch a
clone of Flappy Bird with an Android robot in place
of the bird. It's just as frustrating to play as the original too.
16. Save the battery
Android 5.0 Lollipop includes a built-in battery saver mode
that you can get to kick in at 15 percent battery,
5 percent battery or never (you can also switch it on and off manually).
It cuts off some background syncing
and vibrations and makes various other tweaks as well.
If you select Battery from the Settings app you'll find
the battery saver on the menu behind the three vertical dots.

Textra Doesn't display all the way to the top?

Hey guys,
I use textra as my standard messaging app. It seems like it gets cut off on the s8's display, not going all the way to the top. It leaves a black space between the top of the app and the notification bar. Not sure if this is a textra issue that needs to get updated or an app viewing setting somewhere in the s8 that I'm missing. Either way it sure would be nice if that dead space went away lol
Anybody know any tricks?
Cheers!
Edit: Apps this happens in I've found so far
Textra
theChive
Various banking apps
I'm thinking it's something with the individual apps not being able to display in a certain aspect ratio? Dunno.
A little extra testing showed that this is independent of launcher used. I didn't think it would have an effect but figured I would give it a shot anyways. I used the google now launcher with no difference.
Try Settings, display, full screen apps. Toggle the individual program to be full screen. Should solve the problem.

Problem solved! No idea why this is an option I need to check. Bought the phone for a full screen, why would i not wanna utilize that full screen? lol
Programs aren't made to this aspect ratio yet. There could be glitches. You choose full screen you deal with the consequences.

Have you noticed when you receive a text message and you click on it from the notification screen it makes you swipe to open still? I have the AT&T version and this annoys me.
Like any notification you tap it and instead of opening the phone it goes to a blurry screen and makes you swipe again.
yeah, I wish apps went all the way by default when you install them, and if they don't work that way, I can go in an turn off. I have to go in and turn them all on at the beginning which is annoying.

I just watched your video closely. So you are talking about opening the textra message from the lock screen by double tapping? yeah, mine makes me unlock the phone too. I have iris scanner and FP setup. so if I double tap the message from the lockscreen, I have to unlock the phone first to see it or reply to it. I think that's pretty standard.
You can setup reply boxes on the lock screen. I haven't played with it much but I think it'll let you reply with a locked phone. Check out the heads up floating notification section under "when locked"

did you not have lockscreen security setup on your pixel? I know on my OnePlus One running 7.1.2, if I don't have any lockscreen security (just set to swipe), I can do what you are trying to do. But I think anytime you setup a pin, pattern, fp, etc., you have to insert in those unlocking methods first.
OR, did you have some kind of smart unlock setup on your Pixel that you haven't on your S8 yet? like proximity (home), connection (bluetooth or wifi), etc?
