4.3 UPDATE FOR GALAXY s4 mini - Galaxy S 4 Mini General

Customers of three big Canadian carriers, Bell, Rogers and Telus, reported this weekend that their Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy S4 mini handsets are getting updated to Android 4.3. The update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 weighs in at a hefty 790MB and besides Android 4.3, the update also brings Samsung KNOX to both phones. This offers a secure set of applications that are protected from malware and viruses. We're talking about a browser, calendar, contacts and email applications that are in a "secure container" allowing you to use them for work without fear.
The update also makes both devices compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch and adds performance and UI improvements along with security enhancements. The update to the Samsung Galaxy S4 brings build number I337MVLUEMK6 to the phone while the new build version for the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini is I257MVLUAMK5.
The update has been arriving to both models OTA and if you haven't received the notification yet, you can try to coax it out of the phone by going to Settings > About > Software Update.

Seeing as the firmware starts with "I257" it's probably not for the I9192, but I could be wrong.
---------- Post added at 04:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:34 PM ----------
The firmware will probably be for the Bell S 4 Mini SGH-I257M, which is pretty close to the LTE S 4 Mini version GT-I9195, so the LTE version might be the next to get 4.3.
If I had to guess it'll still be a while for the GT-I9190 and GT-I9192 but who knows when it comes to official updates.

Yes, you are right. But hopefully the 4.3 updates for other s4 mini models will be released. Like what happened with GALAXY S3. Initially Galaxy s3 international version got the JB 4.3 update and later t-mobile and other carriers got JB 4.3 for s3.

This KNOX is another portion of Samsung's crappy bloatware, right? I hope it can be disabled.

Of course not. It keeps your emails and personal data secure, the same as locked bootloaders keep phones stock.
(And yeah, it can be easily removed)

wonder when the 4.3 update will arrive? btw just updated my s4 mini to latest firmware and found that LINE messaging app and Gear manager app comes pre installed lol

Anyone with the Verizon variant received it yet? I'm interested in a dump of the boot and system partitions.
I have a hunch that they messed up in the support document, as the build number they listed in the beginning is JDQ39, which is 4.2, but later in the document they mention 4.3. So hard to say what to believe, although I think it's only 4.2.

Knox is even more than just a locked bootloader. It creates a kind of a "box" or cave on your phone in which you work in. It was designed to support the bring-your-own-device-concept. Confidential data from your business are safe inside this cave (that's why it was called Knox).
You can delete the knox apps, but i don't know which benefit you will have. The newer firmware have a new bootloader with knox integrated. Trying to root or flashing a custom firmware will break know warranty void and it changes to 0x1. It is irreversible. And btw, it breaks OTA aswell.
And concernig the 4.3 update:
4.3 will most likely be skipped for kitkat.
Till then Samsung will only roll out security and stability updates.

Kitkat will be released for the s4 (mini) in February/March I assume.
I'm not 100% sure about the left-out 4.3 but I read it several times on the Internet.
Generally you lost warranty because you rooted your phone.
But if you installed the recovery and cm over the old bootloader, you have the possibility to reset the counter with Odin and flash the stock firmware. In this case you or the Samsung support won't probably notice that you altered your device. But as I said the newer bootloader has knox. And if you root with the newer one your warranty is definitely gone because "knox warranty void 0x1" is irreversible. This also means that Knox becomes useless because a "knox cave" can only be created with 0x0. For now it's not important anyways because the s4 mini isn't supported by Knox.
You can flash stock firmwares anyways. You just have to reset the counter to get ota working.

Hi,
Thanks in advance for the information! But I'd like to get the upgrade for the version 4.3 Jelly Bean. I already heard that some telecom carriers are allowing the OTA update, for example Verizon is already offering an upgrade to v4.3.
It would be great to find the way to upgrade the S4 Mini I9192 the latest Android version, but until now I can't find a specific site from where I can download the upgrade. How should I expect to get the update if my telecom carrier isn't offering this service? Can I do it by accessing to other source?
Thanks again for your feedback!

The update from Verizon that all sites "claim" is 4.3 it is NOT . Still 4.2.2
So just wait until next year
I hope 4.4 will come directly and skip 4.3

Hi folks,
Wow, this is really confusing! I can't understand how such a big company like Verizon is cheating to so many people! Or, are all those pages that are doing hype around this upgrade?
And what about the news that refer to Canadian companies, I also read that customers of Telus, Bell and Rogers reported an 790MB update in their phones...
What a mess

Security warning for all Note 10.1 devices

As many of you know, all devices that have a Exynos processor have a security hole, called EXYNOS EXPLOIT.
Basically, this security hole allowes apps to have complete access to everything on your device.
For more information on this security hole, click:
http://www.google.com/search?q=samsung+exynos+exploit
Samsung has released new firmware for exynos devices, these firmwares close this security hole.
For your own security, every Note 10.1 should change to the latest 2013 firmware.
2013 firmware has a code that ends with M** for example:
N8010XXUCMA5 (4.1.2)
N8000XXCMA1 (4.1.2)
N8013UEUCMA3 (4.1.2)
You can get the newest firmware on samsung-updates.com and samfirmware.com.
Firmware on these sites is official Samsung firmware from Samsung Kies.
About country versions and OTA updates:
Experience shows that the waiting time for your country firmware version or an OTA update for your country depends on the priority your country has for samsung (waiting time of 1 day, many months or possibly never get an update for your country).
Samsung firmware for the Note 10.1 includes all languages and is almost identical in all country versions (with exception of the China version).
Also the Taiwan version offers all languages at setup. You just have to select Samsung Keyboard in your language version in settings and the firmware will be like your own country version.
You should backup all your data/apps/settings with something like Titanium backup, install the new firmware and then do a factory reset.
You can also not do the factory reset, but you may have compatibility problems.
To install firmware on your Note 10.1 you need Odin.
You can download it here:

No. It is not related to the android version. the patch is in the boot image. Also the 4.1.1. ending with M** is fixed.

What you posted does not contradict me. you refered to 3 roms and say they are 4.1.2. They are not all 3 4.1.2. The fix is in the boot image, not in android. If you take your 4.1.2 and change only the boot image, you are again with security hole.

Legion, can you update the first post with some more specific advice. Is this THE ota exynos update? Are Sammy going to release this OTA or is this it? Is this image for ALL devices irrespective of country. How it affects region specific devices. Also, flashing details etc.
I was under the impression that Bri was for Taiwan specific devices only! But I read somewhere that this update can be flashed regardless of region.
I think a little more advice on the first post would help users here.
I'm downloading now and will update as soon as, but a lot of users won't download based on the first post being unclear.
Riki
As per I know all patches will be release via OTA, the US 4.1.2 rom is already patch the German 4.1.2 rom has received the patch via OTA. Others I am not aware of but yes it will come out in form of an OTA. The OTA should be around 10 - 20 MB
So this download is NOT needed then? Is there any point downloading the ROM Legion has linked to?
The roms he has linked are stock firmwares for regions like Germany, US which have already received the patch. If you are on stock rom for your country then wait you will receive the OTA soon, if you are on a stock rom from another region then you will not so it makes sense to flash the German rom.
Also a question to all those how many device have been harmed because of exploit till date I have not seen even a single member posting about it so I do not think it is as serious as we make out to be
Well, downloaded and installed on ma tab UK 8010. Been messing around with it for the last half hour, checking everything works as it should.
Device OFFICIAL status.
Allshare Cast works fine.
No issues with language.
Seems slightly smoother and faster.
All tested apps work as they did prior.
Still 4.1.1 as expected. Exynos exploit fixed.
So, I would say given my previous thread, IF you have issues with Kies or OTA I would download and install.

Absolutely agree with Samir. Why would you downgrade to 4.1.1 just to fix a feature which seems never to have caused a problem!
Other than allowing the Note10.1 to be much easier to root for the hundreds (probably thousands) of users who have used the simple rooting method using the Exynos Exploit?

I agree, but I was on 4.1.1 anyway. So closing a potential issue is a no brainer for me. It may well be the best/easiest way to root the tab but having such a potentially dangerous exploit there is not worth the risk.
Just because no one has been affected (or reported having been affected, or even knows they are affected) doesn't justify keeping it open. Especially IF you use the tab for banking, or other financial or work purposes!
My thoughts anyway.
Well its not that someone can use the exploit by magic they need a disguise to do that in form of an app or something else so if you are using it for banking then you would anyways be extra sure of the source of apps you install or website you browse.
Also once you patch it does not mean that your device cannot be hacked there are many other ways to it may be the above one was the easiest.
Again I am in no advocating not to patch the exploit but just putting some facts. Infact there was an article which said there were may fishing apps on google play itself
Way I see it is simple. The tab has a major exploit, the option to fix that exploit is now available. Folks can argue semantics/doomsday scenarios all day long, but it don't change the facts!
Peace

[Q] Updating SGS4 GT-I9505

Hello all
I wanted to ask you some questions about the update which is going to arrive to SGS4 next month and whether my phone will get the update.
I'm from Israel and I bought my phone in a private shop and not a carrier.
My phone details are:

Kernel Version:
3.4.0-526204

CCOM is the name of the importer of this and many other devices to my country (not-official),
At status at Device Status it is written Official.
When I open up Kies to chech for updates it is written:
Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies
My current firmware (as written on Kies) is: PDA:ME2/PHONE:ME2/CSC:MDB(BTU)
Will I be able to get an update next month/whenever is comes out over the air?
Thanks in advance

Why do you suggest to flash? Will I get updates with that? What rom to flash with? I don't wanna get messed up with non-official roms like Cyanogenmod and such things. Also, I need a rom with Hebrew on it (official rom, again).

Some official firmwares are not supported by kies, but it can take ota update. If you didnt receive the ota now (because your firmware does not match the product code) you will never receive it after. So you can flash official new firmware for BTU (see guide in my signature) so all will match, so you can receive ota update in the future. Moreover, I said that it was only next month the Android 4.3 will be out for SGS4 so why would there be an update now??

Here are the official firmwares for BTU http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9505&pcode=BTU#firmware
See there is no ME2 firmware.
Im telling you about btu because your product code is btu according to info by kies in your first post. So pda and csc and product code must match in order to receive ota update.
In other hand, it is up to you what to flash, you can flash other official firmwares from any supported country. Note that your country has no official I9505 firmware.
Regarding Hebrew lang, ask in noob thread(the sticky one at the top) the op has an i9505 with btu.

See there is no ME2 firmware.
Im telling you about btu because your product code is btu according to info by kies in your first post. So pda and csc and product code must match in order to receive ota update.

I guess yes. Because 4.2.2 is not a single firmware, it is always up to date by samsung.
Was the box sealed ?
Im wondering why the name of seller or what else is included in the phone info
Any way post your case in the sticky thread and you will have better answers

Yes the box was sealed and he opened it beside me.
Anyway I asked about it in the newbies thread also.
Thanks for any help.
Install cpu z from market and post screen shots. Might help clarify what you actually have there.

Latest Firmware

Sorry for being such a noob but I have never ordered a device internationally before. Anyways I have just rooted my device (SM-P605) and I'm curious what the latest firmware is because I don't believe I get OTA upgrades here in the States. Right now I'm running Android 4.3 on baseband version P605XXUBMJ4 and Build Number JSS15J.P605ZSUBMJ6.
Is there a newer version I should be using? Trying to check via the official bounces me to Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available.
Also, are there plans for Kit Kat in the future? Or perhaps there already is a mod that includes the latest version of Android.
MJ9 is the Latest i guess

This is why you can't get OTA updates - because you are rooted.
This is where you can get the latest firmware

Yes, but no release date is set, or known by us. Samsung said "soon".
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601477
How do I manually upgrade to MJ9? Do I need to un-root and flash to stock before doing anything. I also notice that my basebuild and build are running different numbers. How did that happen, is it a problem, and how do you fix it?

I'd also like to know if there is a specific version of the upgrade that I need to download. Region specific. I don't want to brick it. Will any download of P605XXUBMJ9 run perfectly on this device? Do I also need a certain file to upgrade the baseband?

You will not brick it, in the worst case you'd have to flash it again with another CSC. CSC is the region of your device. For a close shot, forget about the country and either flash US firmwares if your device is US, or EU firmwares if your device is anywhere from Europe.
No, it is included in the firmware file. There is absolutely no reason to look for a baseband file (or RIL).
Unless your driver somehow got screwed, which usually happens when you install wrong, or badly matched kernels. In that case you will hear very disturbed sound (this error is very clear, if you get this problem, you know 100% that it is there. It isn't like "did i hear a scratch in my speaker for a second?").

Get Odin, get the drivers, read the instruction. Just the usual odin procedure.
You don't need to unroot/re-stock, but if you are very paranoid, you can use a custom recovery to wipe /system before flashing (don't do it unless you know you need it. If you don't - you don't need to do it. I am only telling you this because you might want it in the future when you try many different modded ROMs).
Baseband and build v. can differ, this is not a problem nor something you should worry about.

do you know if there is any firmware for sm-p605 with multiple user support?
No there isnt. When KitKat comes we get Multiuser Support.
You can't downgrade the bootloader.
Flashing an older firmware that the bootloader doesn't support will end up with a tablet hanging on the samsung logo. Just need to reflash newer firmware to fix
Flashing a bootloader for another device - you might as well throw it off a highrise and hope it still works when it hits bottom...
P600 and P601 roms WILL NOT work with the P605. It's like trying to use helicopter parts to fix a car engine....

Multi User Functionality / Firmwares

Dear all,
I'm starting this thread because I understand that many of us are interested on multi user functionality on Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition.
I will start by mentioning the things I've learned so far, regarding the Wi-Fi model (SMP600). I think that more or less the same applies to the 3G & LTE models as well.
- European Models have the MJ9 firmware
- Some have the MK1 update, but this doesn't add multi user functionality
- The US MK1 firmware (P600UEUBMK1), adds the multi user functionality
My understanding is that we can all flash the US MK1 firmware via odin, without tripping the Knox counter. Recently I flashed an EGY MK1 firmware on my EUR galaxy, without any issues at all.
But, can anybody confirm that the US MK1 multi user works? I remember reading somewhere that it was problematic.
So lets discuss all this here, if its ok with you.

I remember someone mentioning that when switching users, all bloatware were re-enabled. Maybe he didn't perform a factory reset or something.

It does that. Also it freezes few times a week and always does an extra reboot when powering on.
I also have the European p-605. There is no firmware upgrade available. Is there a multiuser firmware out or will there ever be one?

Yeah EU/UK are still on old firmware, i reckon we wont get an update until whenever we get KitKat now so could be a few months away before we get Multi-user support. Just have to wait unfortunatly.

Who is to blame for the regional update delays really? Is it Samsung decision to not release them OTA everywhere or is it the lack of interest regionally?
well i decided to finally flash the MK1 XAR*fw on my "Greek" galaxy and Im using it for some days now without any problems.
switching between users is fast and without any freeze issues at all. I dont have the re-enabled bloatware issue, but I have them disabled in both profiles anyway.
Also no knox triggered and everything official and smooth.

Hi guys, does P601 model has any firmware with this feature unlocked? I can't find nothing about it.

Except for restricted profiles still missing. So if you want to create another profile for kids, guests etc, you still need to log in with a Google account if you want to install apps. And if you want to install some apps you've bought on your main account, then that account must be your main Google account meaning shared search history, calendar, Gmail etc.
Sucks but well... This is Samsung

Maybe go to account settings in the device options and delete it there

Hit the Thanks button if I was able to help you
I thought you cannot delete the only account.
Have any of you tried the switchme app? It exactly what your all looking for as far a security between multiple users. The pro version is the way to go tho, as the free version won't support the security features. I use to use it on my old note 10.1 and it worked perfectly.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It requires root which I'm not willing to do.
i have the p605 and i have multi user.... how? well im rooted and have xposed framework installed and there is a module called Multiple Users for Phone, this says its for AOSP only but works perfectly fine on the 605..... i tried it on my note 3 on stock samsung rom and it cracked a s***, on the p605 though it does seem to glitch and go slow at switching.... i get the feeling its not meant to work or something..... hope this make afew people happy to learn this
Multi-user now also works on my Note 10.1 - 2014 using KitKat (SPAIN FW)
Now for all of you out there also waiting for the Multi-User option. I was waiting for it as well, but wasn't confident Samsung would include it in the 4.4 Stock update, and it was missing in the original 4.3 Stock FW. Excellent news, since the Multi-user option is now actually there in the KitKat 4.4 update for the SM-P600/WiFi/32Gb (as it is on my other tablet, the Sony Z2 Tablet, which was delivered with 4.4 from the start).
Please see thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54072932 for more details and for KitKat 4.4 download locations and instructions.

[Q] Note 3 (SM-N9005) firmware update in Australia...

Hi There!
The company where I am working provided me with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (I have a Note2 on my own, so it was pretty straight forward getting used to it!).
The current mobile status is at it follows:
Bootloader : N9005XXUBMI7
Baseband : N9005XXUBMI6
CSC: N9005XSABMI1
Basically, I'm running under an old version of Android 4.3 . Is there any real reason to update it to a newer firmware (Samsung official, I do not want to mess up with a rooted mobile..it is not my mobile after all) ? Is there any *real* improvement in using the device with KitKat (battery life, smoother, etc) ?
I'm asking that because I am still regretting the moment when I decided to update my N7100 from 4.1.2 to 4.3 (and then to 4.4.2)... so I don't really want to update the Note 3 and regretting the update afterwards... (..and then finding out that no, it is not possible to go back to the previous version).
Last firmware available in Australia is N9005XXUENE3_N9005XSAENE1_XSA : with the official XSA I have some apps for free in the App Store (which comes pretty handy). Perhaps, I may try the New Zealand one too (N9005XXUGNG1_N9005NZCGNH1_NZC) that looks more recent.
Or, perhaps, is there any 100% stable leaked firmware made by one of you, based on an official Samsung rom, lighter, cleaned of most of the bloatwares AND a safe way to root the mobile without tripping the Knox?
Thank you all

This is a really a big question and a long story. No one can tell you exactly which version is better in term of battery life, smoothness... Also there is no official changelog from the Samsung. And there are also many threads discussed about these updates. You have to read and decide yourself.

Regarding a safe way to root without tripping the Knox, as your firmware is still MI7, you can use URDLV to root. That will not trip your Knox. You can google for URDLV or start from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522858

Mmmh.... make sense your answer, and it's good already that it is not like "stay away from XYZ version". I guess for the Note2 it was more clear that JB 4.3 was not such a step ahead...fro your answer I can guess that no versions are really "flawly" or defective in this way...
