Galaxy Grand 2 Revealed - Galaxy Grand Duos i9082 General

Samsung has announced the device and it is none other than the Galaxy Grand successor. Samsung rightly calls it the Galaxy Grand 2 and brings in better hardware and new design. Galaxy Note 3′s stitched faux leather back has also been adopted in this device as well and comes with a 5.25-inch 1280×720 HD TFT display.
The processor and RAM has also got an upgrade, which now comes with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1.5GB RAM. Additionally, you’d find an 8 megapixel camera at the back, 1.9 megapixel HD camera on the front, 8GB of internal memory which is complemented with an external microSD card slot supporting up to 64GB. Other hardware features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, dual-SIM support and 2600mAh battery that promises up to 10 hours of playback and 17 hours of calls.
The phone runs Android 4.3 with Samsung UI overlay and other features like Samsung Hub, Story Album, Group Play, S Translator, S Travel, Sound & Shot, Best Shot and more.
There’s no info on the price but the phone will be available in black, white and pink.

Yupzz & it comes with android 4.3 which is somehow latest version of android around samsung devices for now.
But if we take a look then m not sure Grand will get further official 4.3/4.4 update in future ahead.
Andro 4.2 is the final update for our Grand.

Good to know,SAMSUNG has announced another Amazing device. Finally this grand will be having 720p display rather than previous 480p,faster processor and more RAM. According to my perception this device is one of the best affordable devices out yet.
I think the time has eventually come to upgrade our GRAND TO GRAND 2

May be This should be called Mega 5.2 as this is little brother of Mega 5.8 :good:

Anything larger than 5" is impossible to use without 2 hands... unless you have a really big hand.. definitely not upgrading. Samsung has a tendency to make their phones larger and larger... ditching rational ergonomic size...
Maybe it's just me. I don't like their phone-tablet hybrid phones (Note lines and similar sized devices) too big to use as a phone, too small to satisfy entertainment and web browsing use from a tablet...

Not enough spec changes to warrant an upgrade. The Moto G dual SIM will get Kitkat, has the pretty much the same spec. It looks to be a better option.

samsung is planning to increase their sales.. not to satisfy its customers

Anything bigger than 5 inch is useless, moreover samsung is releasing same design phone over and over again. No design change. You have to go near and see which galaxy variant it is as all are same.

This makes me feel that my sweet lil Grand is becoming old
I wish samsung has given Grand 2 with 16 internal memory ... snapdragon chipset ( The one we get in Nexus 4) or same chipset as s3 ... Super amoled panel and 3000 mah battery ...

I think Grand should be updated to 4.4....... its the best selling mid range in India.......... and its not 18 months old....
wish if Google themselve updated our phones

Samsung won't update our grand ...
Because if they do then no one going to but grand 2
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app

If the price the same as S3 or Note 2 this Grand 2 won't sell sweet. As you can see Mega 6.3 price almost have the price as S3.
Sent from my GT-I9082 using xda app-developers app

My intention is to keep my Grand til it's unusable. Maybe 1,5 years or so from now. And by then I won't buy another Samsung device. It has to be a Nexus. I've tasted how awful it is (especially regarding updates) to own a mid range device from several companies.

Samsung releases phones too fast... They might lose their market with this...

For me : I wont' upgrade to Grand 2. Grand is rather dissapointing for me (FYI, I've been using grand for 4 months). I'm not dissapointed for its software update, but its performance especially for daily usage especially after updating to 4.2. 4.1 is not that fast, and 4.2 is worse.
In here, Grand is priced 3.200.000 IDR (approx. $290) unlocked. For a $290 devices, surely I expect something more than this. Grand is very slow for a device using a dual core CPU especially when opening Gallery with more than a hundred photos. :crying:

The biggest problem with these custom ROMs is none of them support dual SIM, which is main reason some of us bought the Grand. If dual SIM is not required, then there plenty of better phones out there. And if you want pure Android, why not get the real thing and go with Nexus 4 or Nexus 5?

Is it worth upgrading from s3 to a note 2

The Note 2 has 2 gigabytes of ram, compared to the 1gigabyte of s3, so its more future proof. The screen is also bigger and better.
Question is, is it worth it? Or is it too big for a phone?
Please don't ever say futureproof again because you can not simply 'futureproof' something
My SIII uses MAX 800mbs
The international version comes with 2GBs of RAM so maybe you could swap yours out for one of those
If you're looking for a bigger screen though then yes the Note is worth it
Sent from my GT-I9305T using xda app-developers app
lol @ futureproof
i keep the same phone for no more than 5-6 months. i just can't imagine sticking with the same for any longer than that. and here is my reasoning:
if you get a new phone and then sell it 5-6 months later (before the next iteration of the phone comes out) then you will sell it at 80% of the original price. however if you keep it for 12 months (and the new phone comes out) and you try to sell it you'll be able to get only 50% of what you paid for the phone. so I always change phones every 5-6 months. so thats how I stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest. so basically i'm 'renting' the phone for $100 for 6 months.. which is not bad at all. in fact that's actually CHEAPER if you think about it.
Umm both s3's that I've used on AT&T have 2 gigs of ram so I don't know who told you that information. If you have a s3 wait for jelly bean because it is essentially the same phone besides jelly bean features and the s-pen. Don't get my wrong, the note 2 is an amazing phone. I had the note 1 and now I'm on an international note 2. The battery life is the big selling point for me, but it is ALOT faster than the note 1 or the s3.
Honestly only you can answer that question.
The Note II has many useful features you have to decide if they are worth the price of admission. If I had an upgrade to use I wouldn't hesitate to pickup the note even if I has an S3. But as you have an S3, a relatively new device, I assume you would have to pay full AT&T price. If that's the case I'm not sure I would be willing to drop $650 for a new Note II if I already had an S3. But I'm on a very tight budget at the moment you may be in a different situation.
I have an upgrade and plan to use it to pick up a Galaxy Note II Friday.
From my perspective yes.
I changed and am very happy.
More ram, insane battery, faster, screen is better with polarized glasses.
Spen, multi view.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
So I just switched from the S3 to the N2.
My reason, the styles and bigger screen (my target resolution to avoid eyestrain when using RDP is 250dpi N2 is a better resolution than the S3)
As for hardware specks I was more than happy with the S3, All I want is a good battery and the ability to use the phone all-day: GPS, note taking, Recording minutes, Camera, editing photos, playing podcasts, and web browsing. (if I get a day's use out of it I'll be happy.)
The S3 battery did restrict my ability to use it to its full potential. I'll comment on the Note2 after I have used it for a month.
I don't know why people are saying the note 2 has more ram than the s3 because the s3 and note 2 both have 2 gigs of ram... Internal - 16 GB storage, 2 GB RAM

i came from int S3 like yours & i'm not looking back
the battery is just awesome with all the screen estate
I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a 1GB phone. Switching through apps works like it should on the Note 2. With that said, it still manages to fill it up rather quickly. Visit enough web pages and open enough apps, it offloads the app from the memory. I think 4GB will be perfect, for today. But probably 4GB won't be enough for 2 years from now when it is available. Such is life.
But I love 2GB ram on this phone. Along with the superb battery, big screen, S Pen (just the ability to write notes down as quickly as you can do with a pen and paper), and airview, I think it is a worth upgrade and the hassle of having to sell a used Galaxy, and taking a hit on some costs.

Rumblings from Samsung indicate the S4 will be released by March 2013. That's a short 10 months after the S3 release... I don't have the link right now, can find it if needed...
In my opinion the Note's screen is too big for a functional phone. I'm not a fan of the "inbetweener" sizes... Two small for a tablet, too big for a phone. However, it's all about preference and usage.

I come from the Galaxy S3 and was a little afraid for the big Note2.But now afther a few days i not like the S3 anymore and i'am very happy with the new note.
Coming from the s3, I am VERY happy with the choice of the upgrade. The screen is nicer to look at, colors are more vibrant. I personally like the screen size, just about perfect for me. I will most likely skip the S4, no way I want to go smaller now. I will hold my next upgrade for the Note 3...love it!
The Note 2 isn't THAT big. I thought it would be a lot larger. So little bezel and the width of the phone makes it very practical.

How do you find the Oppo Find 5?

I've been looking at reviews at Amazon and wanted to know what hardcore users think of the find 5? How is the hardware and software? How's the camera and audio quality for the headphone jack? Is CM running smoothly with no bugs and good battery life? Would you recommend this over other phones like the s4 or Htc one?
If you like to tinker with your phones and flash roms etc... Then yes I would recommend it. CM runs good and everything works, however there a bug where sometimes you lose signal (cell) and you have to reboot: (
The audio is awesome, one of the best sounds on a smartphone. The camera is not up there with HTC or Samsung, however it's not a bad one either.
I came from a nexus 4 and am very happy. The screen is amazing hands down just gorgeous. Hardware is top notch.
Now would I recommend this over the S4 or the HTC? That's hard... Because it tally depends on what u plan on doing with your phone. All 3 phones lose features when flashing CM or any AOSP based ROM. But as far as quality and specs, it's up there if not beating the big boys.
I love this phone! He's absolutely awesome, it's has a 5" 1080p screen, 1.5GHz Quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, Dirac HD sound, stunning 13.1 MP camera, ...
The other reasons why I like this phone so much are:
- OTA updates (twice a month)
- Dev support (In corporation with Google)
- Fully Open-source
- ...

There are many roms you can play with, besides the various cm asop/akop roms provided by the devs here, you will soon have stable alternatives such as the firefly and MIUI roms to try out.
using latest firmware and kernel battery is lasting 1 and half days with average of 55% of screen time. I'd say decent. You can always try using modded rom and other kernels to get little over 2 days out of it.
Wonder how long oppo will support the find 5 lol just look at htc and how they dump last year's models after just a year. They probably can't afford to support it unlike Samsung

Having come from Samsung I an far happier at fortnightly updates rather than every 3 to 6 months. When 4.2.2 was announced they said it was 'coming soon'... last October. Eight months later I ditched the phone. Not just because of slow updates but it played a part.
The F5 has a roadmap to 4.2.2 by August/September so we'll see.
Hardware-wise the screen is a killer and personally 5 inch is the sweet spot after trying to drop to a 4.7 inch Nexus 4 from 5.5 Note 2.
Audio is good. Stock ROM has Dolby Mobile (bassy!) and Dirac which I prefer. Speaker is much better than previous rear speakers but doubt it compares to HTC One.
Can't compare it to HTC One much other than the price is not justifiable for my needs when the F5 is available for significantly less SIM free and has 5 inch screen.
-- From my Find 5
Does the find 5 have a dac chip? How is sound quality compared to the note 2 which is arguably one of the best right now?
And are the aosp and cm roms usable compared to the stock f5 roms? The s4 and one stock roms are surprisingly superior to the stock roms in a lot of ways especially in battery life. I am surprised at the pace of their development since they're fairly new

[Q] Help me decide my next phone!

Hello guys,
I've been searching recently to decide which phone will be my next phone in 2 months. The parameters for me to decide are, I keep the phone at least few years like my current SGS2 phone and I need it to stay above average. I know I may see better for next 6 months or so but I want to decide in this period. Money is not a factor.
I've been reading about new Knox for SGS5 and every poll in other websites I've read was saying they are not going to buy or they are not interested and disappointed!
I also read about another Galaxy S 5 named F series or Galaxy Prime! It's the same as Galaxy S 5 but with better specs and metal unibody!
I stuck to choose between these:
Google Nexus 5 (32gb, LTE)
Samsung Galaxy S5 (prefer 32gb but if it's available till then, LTE)
Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9505 LTE)
I also created a poll for the ones who are lazy to answer.
Any response, opinions are welcomed.:good:
Thank you.
EDIT:
I prefer removable battery because in my country any official repair center has no meaning and they are all in one that asks money for their services. So in few years period I need atleast one new battery as my previous experiences. And having removable battery is a factor. And having an SD card is but with 32gb version that would not be a huge problem but I prefer having removable battery and SD card slot.
I heard about nexus 5 battery life that as its best it would be average. Having a good battery life could be a factor too.
I have similar problem and I have narrowed it down to 2 options:
- Samsung Galaxy S5
- Sony Z2
but still can't decide

Not sure what you mean by LTE version on Z2:
The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.3 GHz quad-core Krait CPUs and 4G LTE for fast performance, 3GB RAM and high capacity 3200 mAh battery in an 8.2mm slim smartphone

Exactly. I thought Z2 is the same with galaxy s series for having LTE versions (4G) that it's market dependent and different in any country/operator so that's a positive thing for Z2.
They are exactly the same except the ram and cpu, samsung clocked it at 2.5GHz. But that ultra power saving mode on S5 is an awesome thing! I'm more into S5 now because of that auto-focus, ultra power saving mode and removable battery. But getting an S5 LTE version is on whole another subject!!

lol yeah.
That's the main reason for me cause I won't change my phone even in two years period. I still have my beloved SGS2 almost four years now and changed the battery once! That's why I'm worried about these.
But I hear others say go for Nexus 5! Because of development and open source! I think I'm going to change my mind to wait for S5 release date to see actual reviews then decide! I think in that mean time I would buy Nexus 5 then if S5 had positive feedback from actual consumers I would change my phone! But doing this would waste my money!
But till then who knows? :fingers-crossed:
Nexus 5 pros:
- development and open source
- faster Android updates
Nexus 5 cons:
- no Micro SD
- non-removable battery (same as Z2)
Two above in the same device disqualifies Nexus 5 for me...

You are right but I can't live without a custom rom! I know in first few months of S5 release there wouldn't be any custom roms specially if they want to include all those new features.
And I know nothing about Z2 or Sony devices in this matter, cause I never had one!
I'm slowly taking decision to buy N5 now and then see the situation after release of Z2 and S5 then change my phone after that if I still wanted to leave N5!

I will wait for both to be released, take both in my hand and decide
Although Sony is winning currently:
- active noise-cancellation - although don't know if Sony will include headphones that use it in the box
- I like SmartBand better than Samsung Gear stuff
- hate Samsung for Knox
but... honestly not 100% sure... 11th April is coming fast!
Hi All
After long search and comparing many flagships I finally decided to get the best smartphone
I was thinking about Galaxy S4 - Galaxy S5 - Nexus 5
then I decided to get Galaxy S4 for the following:-
1- Replaceable battery.
2- SD card support.
3- Easy to fix and replace parts if I need to.
4- No fingerprint scanner (this is really stupid option).
5- Perfect size easy to put in your pocket.
6- come with Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and 4.3 No KItKat 4.4.2 SD card Limited use (I don't update).
7- Good performance & battery life.
8- So many people used this phone for good time without issues or problems.
9- Close aspects & hardware for this year Flagships.
10- Good price $ (after one year in market the price got good drop down).
I have used so many smartphones from Samsung, Nokia Lumias, htc & Sony................ frankly speaking Galaxy S4 is something really special.

The only pros of getting S4 are,
You already have custom roms!
Price got dropped.
But the difference is not that much. In my opinion and after reading so many opinion and reviews. I would say with choosing S4 in my mind I would go for S5! Cause the same will happen to S5 after few months except the price drop. Everything is better on S5 than S4 including so many new features! (I'm not talking about heart rate or finger scanner) Specially for the people who use Stock rom, including me in first few months!
If I have the money in few months after release of S5/Z2 for spending money. I would go with N5 now then decide for Z2/S5 and that mean time after reading actual consumer review's! I stuck with this situation now. I don't know if I'm able to save money till that time to change my phone! And only thing worries me is this, If I'm going to stuck with my next phone then I'm going to decide between S5/Z2 but I don't know if that will happen.
Someone told me an awesome thing about this:

Can you use otg in recovery?
It doesn't matter what phone soon, with glass and the moto 360, will we even get a phone out of our pockets in the next few years anyway
Whatever it is, will likely be an American model for whatever I choose. I will probably end up buying it off of the Google Play Store, as I don't like the bloat that the OEM's put on the phones. My wife has a MotoG that was purchased recently, and except for the MicroSD expandable storage and the removable battery, it meets all the specifications of the SGS III. It suits her fine, but I find these aspects a nessecity in a mobile phone. I don't know what my next phone will be, but it must be able to take MicroSD cards, and have a removable battery.
Oppo find 7
The hardware speaks for itself.

I'll buy a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact now.
My S3's display shattered for the second time now and I am fed up with minor annoyances with CM11 (no 5 GHz Wifi, Bluetooth range problems (maybe related), battery drain after 1st call). The bloated stock firmware doesn't attract me either.
Additionally, Samsung's open source support is mediocre.
Plus, the S3 screen could be a bit smaller for my hands.
Don't get me wrong – the S3 is a great phone, there are just some small details that annoy me. Oh, OLED display – how I love it...
But when I get the chance to unlock a Z1 bootloader or get an unlocked phone, I'll switch.
So far I'm not impressed with the lineup, so I'm sticking with the S3 for now.
The new HTC One looks really nice but I can't live with such a crappy camera. And I don't wanna buy another Samsung phone so the Galaxy S5 is out.
The Sony Xperia Z2 seemed nice, but it's just way too large for me. I'm hoping for a Z2 Compact to come out soon. If it keeps the awesome specs of the Z2 in a small package, I am so sold!
The One Plus looks interesting, but I got a feeling it will be in short supply initially, and by the time it's available the LG G3 is probably out and some leaks of the new Nexus will probably be out.
All in all, an interesting year if you're patient Also the S3 is serving me fine, running a Kitkat ROM on it and it flies and feels as new. My only gripe is that im missing a lot of the Samsung features (camera features, face detection, Allshare etc), but if the elusive offical Kitkat update from Samsung ever comes, there might not even be a need to update my phone this year
Switched to Note 3 few months ago.. Fully stasified.. But miss my zero lemon battery

I have already ordered Note 3 so that's what I will have as main phone ans s3 as a secondary one, it's so good to leave it behind or sell it. Note 3 for the bigger screen, stylus and snapdragon 800.

I'm loving my Nexus 5. It smokes my old S3 in every way.
I'll never go back to Bloatsung.

Anything from Samsung that has 3gb ram or so. (Watch the SGS 5 vs HTC One M8 video multitasking comparison. S5 has pretty bad micro lags, and multitasking sucks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DChf8nhi2tM&feature=youtu.be&t=1m24s) Not note series. Hopefully Gs5 Prime.
S5, as soon as it will be added to the SlimRoms supported devices
One plus one announced tomorrow, LG G3 next

[Q] [Help] Need owners to review the Grand 2

Hi All,
I want to buy a grand 2 for my wife. Gone through the phone specs, reviews and prices online. And I found that this is a good phone which can be considered a safe buy phone with decent specs (oppo find 5 mini was good too but its a new phone and cant trust it like I can trust samsung)
I have read couple of user opinions on gsmarena that they are having issues such as heating, 3g not working on both sims, lagging etc etc. So i thought of taking the outputs from the xda fraternity.
Can some of you grand 2 owners tell the pros and cons of this phone if you have used it for long enough?
Thanks in advance for your help.

3G can work only in one SIM card and that is by design and not a fault. No noticeable lags unless you have lots of downloads, No heating issues observed. Camera, Music OK, Best of all, Kitkat coming soon. Using it since march.
please click on thanks if you think I helped

Buy a nexus5 which is near the price of grand 2 but grand 2 aint bad. I have this phone and i must say its better as a lady phone. No lags. Battery is very good(improved with an update) and kitkat could be in the doors. People who have lags dont actually know how to use the phone very well, like they dont even know the task manager. Or if they are talking about thr mininal lag of touchwiz then its common on every samsung device that has touchwiz but it doesnt bother that much. And no. There is no heating issue. I even use my phone playing a video with speakers while charging and i get minimal heat

Thanks for providing your inputs.
I would have gone for nexus 5 itself but in India, its 30000+ INR whereas I am getting brand new grand 2 in 18200 INR. There is a huge monetory difference here

Damn that much? Go for grand2. Kitkat maybe not that far. Unless samsung screws it up. Moto G is good though and is cheaper..

Moto G was my first choice. but read few user opinions on gsmarena.com that it is having network issues and people couldnt find proper service for it. Also the warranty replacement was an issue.
So thought of going for a safer bet i.e. grand 2.
However oppo find 5 mini was almost on the same range 20000 INR. But cant trust a phone which hasnt been in market for long time.
I never had an issue with my moto g but there are different moto gs out there that isnt well built too. Im lucky i had a good one. Grand2 aint bad as a choice but the lack of custom development is the problem right now unless we get kitkat and some might get working. Anyway its your wifes phone yo grand2 isnt that bad. Its like another note2 without some specific things. I have this with sview cover and its good for women lol

lol. Last i customized my wife's micromax canvas 2 and thanks to the low quality development going on for that phone, it got even more screwed. So if she allows me to touch her phone to make a call, that would be enough
Edit: Just checked out the development and original development sections for grand 2. That land is totally barren. :-\
Maybe people are waiting for official kitkat then start. I bought this coz it had potential specs but damn. Check out galaxy mini or ace2, development there is like freaking huge. Here.. Its like the s duos (worst phone i had).. But lets see and wait if kitkat arrives.. Ill give samsung till july and if they wont then last samsung ever.

I own a 2.5 years old s2 and development for it is still going frantically.
My wife was actually happy to hear that there is no development for this phone and I won't tinker with her phone.
Any news about official kk for this one?
N yeah, bought one already. Gotta get the Sims cut to start using it. It's beautiful :beer:
Thanks for giving your inputs. They sure helped me in making up my mind for this phone.

Im quite sure we wont getting kitkat this month. There was just an update available recently and its jelly bean. A god damn jelly bean. Im just happy about the leather back and the thinness of the phone and the size. Even if its large i can easily grip my hand on it for calls and text..
Any unofficial kitkat would do for me but official one would be better since i got n5 already and a couple of phones.. I want to spam samsun with our kitkat update now -.-

In my opinion, dont get those xperia devices. The design looks bad, and C is sluggishdont know with m2 i dont have it. S4 mini is good but one thing is that its mini. Moto g is a good phone with good battery and specs but isnt as large as grand 2. As for grand dont but it since it looks ugly and old now compared to grand2. Grand2 has good battery life and has a big screen and kitkat is on final stages. In my opinion, ill choose between moto g(price battery and performance but not size since its arnd 4.5/4.6 inch and software updates are good), grand2(big screen battery performance and has 5.3inches and kitkat is on its way(maybelast update) and bad thing is its touchwiz)

I was also thinking that only that moto g and grand 2 should be the one amongst them to buy but I am still in a confussion
Moto G
Pros :-
1) Direct from google getting the update the same or the second day
2) have amoled screen
3) battry life
cons :-
1) it is not available in shops(in india) we have to buy it from flipkart
2) smaller screen size
3)don't like the stock androind icons and all
Grand 2
Pros :-
1) Screen size
2) Ram (not matters due to touchwiz)
3) Expandable Memmory
Cons :-
1) Samsung is very late in updates
2) Touchwiz is very laggy and SG Grand 2 lags I heard from my friends
Can any one tell the estimated price of moto g and grand 2 by November, 2014 currently it is
Moto G :- 13999
Grand 2 :- 20,999

You got the moto g price right. However I bought grand 2 in 18.2k in Bangalore.
My wife is using it for over 2 weeks and it's really good. The only issue I found was with the dual sim setting. Even if internet is set for sim2, a simple call on sim1 will automatically switch the whole thing to sim1 and then you will have to manually switch it to sim2. Apart from this stupid bug, it's absolute beauty. No other bugs and no lags at all.

I have never seen it lagging. Apart from the bug I mentioned in my previous post I have no complaints with it. It's actually quite awesome for the price I paid for it.
I have been using it for almost 5 months and completely satisfied. There are not noticeable lags, handles any stuff you throw at it. And most importantly, it has awesome battery backup. If I use it only for calling and messaging, than it provides backup of almost 2-3 days which is hard to get these days considering the fact that display uses too much battery.
