[Q] Nexus 4 running 4.4 Static clicks from external microphone - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I got a new mic yesterday for when videoing loud sources (iRig Miccast) or just for simple & quick better quality mono recording on my phone, taking notes, recording ideas etc...
Anyway there appears to be a problem with the nexus 4 (unrooted/locked/stock running kitkat)
I have tried recording with various applications, irigs own application, tapemachine, lg camera pro, or Audio evolution pro.
When I record using the phones inbuilt mic... there is no problem, no static clicks..
However when plugin the iRig Miccast and start recording, there is random spikes/static clicks
I have set the phone to airplane mode so there shouldn't be any interference from the radios, ive tried with Screen on/off and makes no difference
I have tried the same on my motorola Xoom and there is no static clicks, so this must be related to the nexus 4
(i cant run the test on the nexus 7 (2012) as it appears to not support external mics)
Any ideas whats causing the clicks when only using external mic on n4?
many thanks

Was it working right on Jelly Bean? Maybe software update broke external mic support like Nexus 7... Also you can try factory reset.

Maybe try flashing Jelly Bean factory image (JWR66Y) and find out if the issue is still here. I tried to google that but only bluetooth mics and some for iPhones . For me Logitech USB headset isn't working, but it's via USB so...(I have the OTG path).

[Q] sound not working

My sound just recently stopped working randomly.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
1. Multiple ROM changes
2. Checked volumes
3. Plugged in headphones (this actually produces sound)
No headphones icon
Current rom: Flexreaper

Could be hardware problem.
Does volume control work with rocker switch?
You could pop the back off and check speaker connections, wires etc.
Use a magnifying glass to check. Especially contacts around headphone jack.
Maybe a little careful poking around with a pencil eraser while the tablet is playing sound.
Good Luck with your problem
Sounds like a hardware issue.
You could try rolling back to HC3 via TD's V.4
But probably a hardware issue.

Im having the same issue coming up from hc3 to the new ics slim on A500. sound was out before upgrade just went all of a sudden, has yet to return but head phone jack works fine. tried every thing too, want to isolate the chunk of programing that controls audio and flash random potential fixs in.
Sound pop/crack
I have installed pjsports version of Android 4.3 [CM10.2 Unofficial] Build 6 on my a500 tablet.
The sound works great until i put the tablet in sleep mode. After waking up the tablet the sound system is broken. The sound is coming out but every second I ear loud pop/cracking noise and the video (or application) slows down to a crawl.
Does anyone experience similar problems ?
I believe I have read that this happens when too many apps running in the background

Hey fellas,
So, it appears that the problem is related to the device thinking that headphones are plugged in. I would assume it is some kind of hardware fault.
However, there is an easy way to work around it (took me days of despair to find it) - install the app "soundabout" from the app store (cant post a link because I do not have 10 posts yet) . Under the media audio setting you can route all media sound through the speakers, thereby bypassing the problem. You do not need the pro version, but if this program just saved you from buying a new device...
app does not require anything other than a one time install and setup, so no annoying icons or thelike. only problem i encountered is that switching to different accounts on the device somehow mutes the sound, and it requires a restart to get it back to working. If anyone encounters the same limitation, let me know (or better, find a fix for it )
Cheers,
pilfer
Since it took me forever to find this app myself, some tag words for google: no media sound on speakers, only notification sounds, alarm sounds only, no sound from videos, no sound from music

[Q] Nexus 10 no sound capture - from ANY device?

So I just got the Nexus 10. I can't use either of the two mics. Or Bluetooth headset, or mic plugged in to capture sound. I've seen other posts about the mics being crappy, but I get absolutely nothing. (the sound-wave graph doesn't twitch) I've tried ButteredMantaAroma. CM10.1 and CM10.2. ParanoidAndroid. Omni. And am now back to stock.
Now, I never tried it before I rooted and flashed my first rom (never even thought about it)
I'll call and look for a replacement (got it free with Solar panel install on house... so not sure about replacement issues) but Since it doesn't work with on-board or Bluetooth or plug-in mic... I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts...?
Am I just missing something stupidly simple?
Thanks for any help

[HELP] Bad audio in recorded videos

Ok so i bought my d802 a couple months ago, and everything is working fine except the audio while recording video. If i record anything quiet its alright, but if i record a concert or just me playing the guitar, the sound gets kinda really quiet and seems like it was really far away or underwater. This is really a big issue for me because i do a lot of covers and stuff. I had the exact same problem on my Nexus 4
I'm using a CloudyG3 2.2 ROM, but it was the same thing on stock unrooted.
Are there any tweaks/mods that can fix this issue? Thanks
Bump
So, i cant fix this?
The only way i found is app called XCam LG Settings. You can find it on Google Play.
Inside the app turn OFF Audio Noise Gate.
But it has two minuses:
1. Audio channels will be inverted (if you hold the phone normally i.e camera buttons from the right side)
2. Not free (2$).

Microphone not working, please help.

Hey everybody.
I got a Nexus 7 2012 that I updated right away to 6.0.1 from this thread.
[ROM][6.0.1_r67][MTC20K][F2FS/EXT4]Android 6 AOSP on Grouper
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/development/android-6-aosp-grouper-t3268172
I didn't notice any errors or bugs but now that I try WhatsApp, sound meter or any other app that uses the microphone, none of them pickup anything.
I tried testing using the tablet in landscape and portrait because this has 2 microphones, but none of them work.
Am I missing a module or something, I also tried with some headphones with mic from a note 4 and it still didn't work.
So I'm beginning to think it could be a problem with the rom because a headphone with mic should work, shouldn't it?
Please let me know what you think, Open to any suggestions.
Really need this mic to work for WhatsApp voice messages.
