[Q] FLAC audio format playback stuttering. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, just wanted to ask what is the reason why my audio playback is stuttering during flac format audio playback? It's kinda annoying.
I'm running a 4.4 stock with faux 029 mainline kernel.
I tried it with stock but same results.
Also tried it with almost all 4.4 but still the same.
I never experienced it before with all 4.3 roms.

4.4 Electronic/buzzing noise during audio playback

Ever since updating to Kit Kat, I've been randomly getting these electronic/buzzing noises when playing audio (speaker and headphone - all audio apps e.g Poweramp, Tunein Radio)
It almost always happens if I interact with the phone while audio is playing. If I leave the phone alone during audio playback, it'll happen as well but not as frequent
I am a constant ROM flasher. This has happened on various builds of PSX, Purity, and Vanilla Rastakat. Changing kernels doesn't fix this either
Anybody else experience this?
Google only brought up this: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62715
Not sure if that is my exact problem
Maximum Volume that started to vibrate?
and did you flashed any audio tweaks?
Not sure about the maximum volume + vibrate part
But no audio tweaks. Full wipes in between flashing different ROMs.
I wish you'd never mentioned this, because now I hear it all the time. I thought it was someone else's phone doing the buzzing, bit no it's definitely mine

It's not so much buzzing but random electronic noises.
Don't think we're experiencing the same thing. This almost makes playing music impossible to listen to. You definitely would have noticed it a long time ago if you suffer from it

It's especially noticeable while charging. I could be that the audio hardware is poorly shielded, so that charging current and even CPU activity can be heard through headphones. It's not noticeable unless things are quiet though.
Got the same issue on and off, switching from paid Poweramp to free Shuttle Music Player (hurts, cause I love Poweramp) has reduced the electronic distortion noise to stuttering and crackling here and there. Unfortunately, none of Poweramps's buffer size/thread priority/... settings did anything to lessen this problem.
Could not find anything that's a possible cause for this - regardless of the phone being used/charged/active/... these stutters keep appearing.
Any more ideas how to solve these problems other than waiting for Google to release a fix/update?
I have had this issue as well. I did some searching around and other phones had this problem as well. It turned out that they just had to disable LTE and it went away. I thought that was silly, but tried it anyway. I had been using LTE constantly so whenever I changed roms or kernels, I still enabled it and still had buzzing. After seeing the posts, I disabled LTE and the buzzing went away.
This isn't the fix I would like. I would like to still be able to use LTE, but watching videos or listening to music drives me nuts with it enabled.

Thanks for the input, albeit, the N4 wasn't shipped with LTE enable in the radio afaik.
...at least mine wasn't and I have never messed with LTE as a result.
However, I also got the feeling, that the audio stuttering has to do with the N4 radio's activity. Too bad, that switching on airplane mode while you're on the bus is not really a feasible workaround. I guess we'll have to wait either for an audiophile Dev fixing this in a custom Rom or for Google.
Confirmed, I have the same problem. Somehow I think it is linked to a custom kernel. It happens with hellscore, franco and matrix kernel for sure.
Sorry to bump up an old thread, but I have this problem too. Plus it stutters when I connect to wifi or when there is any processor intensive task going on... like doing anything while playing music (ugh). It's not the music because its the same problem whether im streaming on spotify or google play or playing local files. Any help appreciated
Yes I suffer from this issue as well. Both stock kernel, Franco kernel and matr1x kernel. Haven't tried changing ROM's yet. I thought it may have been a compatibility issue with viper4android, but after a full uninstall it still persists. I don't have anything LTE related on this device. It is random, and occurs with all audio, and videos also. I have noticed that when it happens on videos, the videos stutter a bit.

Sorry for bumping this again,
but I also have this issue. I'm on 5.0.2 (SimpleAOSP) with Matrix Kernel 14.5. No matter what player I use, PlayerPro or Poweramp - as soon as I lock the device when playing music I get these random buzzing noises that interrupt playback for a short time. I've had the same issues with Purity ROM and Hellscore Kernel before.
Has anyone got a clue??

[Help] Stuttering/skipping when playing FLAC

Hello Guys,
I have this issue with stuttering when playing FLAC on the GE 4.4.2 ROM. I have tried different GE 4.4 ROMs, tried 4 kernel and 5 different music players.
So just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and have fixed it or is there just an issue with GE 4.4 when playing FLAC?
The only way I can get FLAC to not stutter is if I set the CPU min to 1566mhz.\
Any help is appriciated.

Ohhh, cool. Not just me then. Thanks for the info.
Considering the fact that it has been fixed, is there a way to get a flashable file to fix it for us and not wait for the next release?

[Q] hardware decoder no longer works

Hi,
I was playing with various kernels and ROMs. All went fine, however one thing stopped working and I couldn't trace which action of mine broke this.
So, h/w and h/w+ decoders no longer work for me in MX player. I have also tried a few other players but they simply show distorted picture. I've got MX player 1.7.26 and correct decoders installed i.e. ARMv7NEO.
I know there's an answer to "wipe all and reinstall" but I want to see if there's any better solutions.
I'v got latest Echoe ROM which runs Android 4.4.2. I'm also on stock kernel now. I've tried reloading my ROM w/o wipe but that didn't help.
my phone is international 9005

[Q] Crash on Video Playback after Flashing AOKP

Hi everyone,
I recently flashed the 2014-10-18 Kit Kat nightly on my N9005 using TWRP, and believed the process to have gone well. However, whenever I attempted to playback video using MX Player or VLC, the phone reboots to the AOKP boot animation. Additionally, when listening to long podcasts and the like, I begin to hear a muffled/noisy sound after five or so minutes, which, upon rewinding, disappears and then reappears in a couple of minutes. My largest concern is very much the lack of video playback.
Should I attempt to reflash the same ROM, flash a different ROM, or is there something that I can do to perhaps fix these problems?
Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

Choppy video playback and gameplay with custom kernel

I don't know if I'm the only one facing this problem, but it's a wonder that nobody ever mentioned this issue before. I think this problem is related with the custom kernel named Sandroidkernel which comes with every custom roms made for this model by Ihsan. I can play supported games smoothly and play [email protected] fps and sometimes even [email protected] fps fine with HW decoder using MX player using stock rom and kernel. BUT when I use this kernel on custom and stock roms I can't use HW decoder for mentioned resolutions and my games become choppier than usual. I tried flashing the kernel on my stock rom and the issue still remained. I tried playing around with available CPU governors and I/O schedulers but had no luck. Same thing with OMKernel. Anyone facing this issue or fixed it? Any help will be appreciated.
