glass and scratches - Xperia Z1 General

anyway, this phone gets micro-scratches with pleasure
the gnex glass was much stronger

The phone has an Anti-Shatter protective film on the screen. It's the film that scratches not the glass. The glass is tempered and is scratch resistant.
I personally use Nillkin Amazing tempered glass screen protector on top of ASF. Now that you have scratched it up you could consider removing it. Do bare in mind that you will loose the Sony logo and possibly your screen warranty ( dependent on the region)

Consider getting a screen protector. The glass ones are awesome. There is a thread in Q&A section.

Hey Shem.
Thanks for the video, that looks fantatsic.
One thing I would say is the protector doesn't seem to sit in line with the edge of the screen, almost a bit of an eye sore, but your scratch test has me wondering if it would be worth overlooking that for the clear protection it provides.
Is there any alternatives that you would recommend? I tried finding that particular thread you mentioned but not quite tracked it down. I'll keep digging

Here is the thread I had in mind: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519604
and here is one more: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2492878
They were actually in the Accessories section (sorry for that). Tbh I am happy that the screen protector is not a perfect fit as it makes it easier to apply it to the phone. If you use a case that could also be a lifesaver.

Is it difficult to remove the sony film?

I have got scratches on Galaxy S2 screen!

Galaxy S2 has gorilla glass that cant be scratched (scratch resistant), I have kept my phone without screen protector but I use it very carefully, still it has got two scratches on the screen.
Furthermore, there are two spots on screen from where it seems like the alkali-aluminosilicate thin-sheet coating (Gorilla Glass coating) is vanishing.
Its terrible to see the device deteriorating so fast. I have had it for a week now.
Is someone else having such a problem?
contact the provider you bought it from or samsung themselves - be ware they may want to replace so if you have a custom rom be careful!
How many times does it have to be said?
Gorilla Glass SCRATCHES LIKE ANY OTHER GLASS. It is scratch-resistant, but not scratch-proof. Tougher than standard glass, but not impossible to break.
Samsung will do nothing for you about it.
Try to keep it away from sand, as it is the easiest way to get it to scratch.

You're right. Nevertheless, flashing back the respective original stock rom and using a JIG to reset the custom binary count hopefully will solve the warranty problem.
Its probably not the actual glass but the coating that sits on top.

Screen scratched and burnt pixel-can it be replaced?
Hey guys!!
Does anyone know if there is a way to get my galaxy s2 replaced? I have a scratch on the screen as well (and a big one that can be seen even with a screen protector) and one red pixel!! I currently have sent it for antenna repairs (sim was not recognized at all by this phone-not even pin was asked..)
So, is there a way I can demand a new one due to some guarantee reason? I have the stock rom and haven't tried to flash a new rom.... not yet at least
Thank you in advance! Hope someone helps me out!

True. Gorilla glass screens always has scratches but they are less visible than on the other screens. If you'll scratch your screen hardly, even gorilla glass won't handle it.
i have 2 after that started using screen protector but they were only visible in sun light now screen protector so many scratches but thankfully not on screen
Why you guys don't just use screen Protectors? The device's Screen will stay in Top-notch condition forever....
ahh i forgot: for sure, a good screen protector will cost you like 5 - 8 Euros but c'mon... the device is about 450 to 500, wich is much more expesive...
Why on earth do people start these type of threads if your unwilling to use a screen protector then you get scratches on the screen of your phone it's your own fault.

If its a jeans (with metal studs), you could scratch screen on the studs while moving phone in and out of the pocket.

Screen Protector issues...ok if no protector???

Hey guys ive replaced the screen Protector on my xperia multiple times and its crap.
Dust gets in it peels off...
When I had an iphone I had no protector on and the screen was basically unscratchable.
So is the xperia the same way? If not what is best alternative?
I really want my phone looking good.
Thanks everyone !

Hi, i bought the x10 when it was relest and has never used any extra screen Protector havent got 1 scratch on it so far so id say its ok to go without.
I bought pack of 6 screen protectors everyone scratched just ordered mirrored ones better quality will report back when they arrive

I wouldn't ever go without screen protector. You need to first remove the factory screen protector, then clean the screen, making sure no dust particles are left behind before u put the new one on.

The factory screen protector is good! Just leave it on the screen
I can say that the screen doesn't scratch that easily, but in my case, it scratched when i placed it inside my shirt's pocket. Apparently the shirt's button did it. The price for replacing the screen around my parts is 60 euros.
I had the factory screen protector for 10 months. Then one of the corners started to peel. so I took the protector off and used it for a few weeks, decided that it wasn't slick enough and I had to clean it all the time, tried that cannuba wax for phones. I spent the money for the Zagg protector. Great packaging, lots of lubricant to spray on fingers and protector allowing you to slide it around until it's right, micro-cleaner cloth and composite squeegee with a grip and lifetime replacement warranty. It works well, no bubbles, and a sort of spongy feel to it.

you probably still have the factory screen protector on... look at the corner, you'll see it.
The actual screen in mineral glass, and there is a video somewhere on here of a guy with a knife going at it and it not scratching.
I took my factory one off long ago, and it made the screen much better. It looks better and is more responsive
I replaced the factory protector with a translucent protector since I dont really like transparent protector.

The original screen protector started to peel off after just a few days. I have used it without protection for almost a year now and haven't seen one single scratch.
I am rather careful with it but it would still be some small scratches if the screen had been of soft plastic.

I wanted to get rid of the screen protectors a few month ago as I was sick of using my ipod touch which had a normal glass screen and then using the crappy x10s.
Well what a mistake that was. The x10 comes with two protective layers so when you think you've taken off the screen protector, go one more til you get to the glass feel.
Big problems for me though, the screen became strange and almost too sensitive. When using the launcher and scrolling it would go crazy, unlocking the phone became a mission.. big mistake. I ended up ordering in another new screen protector as It was hardly useable
On the other hand, the screen did look a thousand times better. Alot brighter and clearer. I would have been without the screen protector for about a week and discovered a small scratch which isnt viewable at all but I did see it. So I would be careful if your planning on going without it.
If there was a way tweak the screens 'sensitive feel' and correct that I would love to go back. Maybe one day it will happen.
The X10 has so much potential and in theory should be capable of doing so much more... but sadly it was made by Sony, you know the rest.

Get rid of your screen protector, now !

So, I have been using a screen protector since I bought my S2 for a few days. Yesterday when I was drunk, I realized there are some scratches on it, so I decided to peel if off, thinking having another protector later. And to my surprise, my screen became freaking shiny and colorful and beautiful like a stone turning into a diamond. Now Im feeling like a retard, because that lame protector (in fact it's an expensive one), I suffered from an ugly change of screen color of my S2. I am sure I will never get another screen protector, this screen is too beautiful and it deserves to be seen.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Screen protector is a stupid idea anyway. Anything that can scratch a gorilla glass will easily go through a flimsy screen "protector" and scratch the glass anyway.
Im using a Zagg Invisible shield, purely through habit as I've had one on all my phones and comparing it to my GFs S2 (with no screen protector at all) there is absolutely no difference, but to each his own

That depends what screen protector you're using. The matte and the cheap screen protectors are not shiny and look dull, but if you get a good quality screen protector, you won't even notice the difference. Everyone SHOULD have a good quality screen protector because it protects the phone from scratches.

I used a costly PS and still notice a little difference in the vividness of color and obviously the touch response is much more different, i mean more prominent. Using it without a PS for a month now and no, I am not applying a PS again.
My scr protector was an expensive one, it doesnt change the touch sensitivity but for God's sake the color is aweful...

Nope, it's pure logic. You can't scratch gorilla glass. You can only scratch the oleophobic cover on top. If your phones comes across something so strong that even gorilla glass will be scratched, a flimsy screen protector won't be any help.
Ive had a screen protector and all the phones ive owned, and yes you see a difference in the display but i can live with that! and what plank said if you scratch a screen protector it'll go through lol if thats the case then i wouldnt use a screen protector in the 1st place my phone is always in and out of my pocket and most the times its my keys or coins that scratch but underneath my protector the screen has NOTa single mark/scratch and ive gone through loads of protectors since i had my GS2..
Conclusion: i would highly recommend a screen protector ! ChEAp and keeps the gorilla glass free of any scratches!
The end!
Bye
I don't use a screen protector, but can see 2 scenarios where my screen can be scratched.
1. The beach with sand... Solution is to get a waterproof case/bag and have some fun too
2. letting my gf or any woman with diamond earrings to talk on the phone... Solution don't let then use my phone!!
Other than that, I even demoed to my friends the key scratch test on my screen frequently. Someone asked what would I do if a drop of super glue lands on my phone... My answer... Use a razor edge and scratch it off!

Flawed logic. Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. To scratch it, you need to use something harder than the glass. Metal is softer, so your keys are not going to do harm to the glass, it might scratch the coating only. However, sand is just as hard as glass if not harder. That will scratch through the coating and the glass in one go. Unfortunately, sand is everywhere.
If you want the screen to look good then don't use a matte screen :O

Rather have the piece of mind knowing that with a screen protector, even if it doesn't protect it that much.. it still gives some protection. Same goes for cases why have use some cases when "some" add very little protection and mostly for looks.
The fist thing to do when i get a friend's phone in my hands is to peal off the protector and pretend it was by mistake

I removed few scratches from my previous note but never from gorilla glass 4. What I did I masked area and wet sanded scratch out using very fine sand paper (1500, 2000, 3000) with final touch 5000 and polish whole screen using drimel with buffing pad and fine polishing compound. It is time consuming and results depending on your patience. Maybe put screen protector to minimize visibility of scratch and wait until replacement front glass became available - in my opinion is easier to replace glass than remove scratch.

anybody found a good screen protector???

It seems like everywhere I go everyone has the same complaint: the screen protectors don't cover the whole screen or are not designed to bend with the curvature of the v20?
I've had it for little over a week and I've found that those same areas that are making it hard for me to find a good screen protector are the same areas that are the most scratch prone when you lay the phone face down.
If you know of a decent screen protector PLEASEEEE let me know
ok, do you really REALLY need the LG logo to be covered by a screen protector? i mean it doesn't really matter if it gets scratched...it's not the screen.
the spigen tempered glass is amazing. fits well, no halo, clear as anything, and best of all doesn't get that oily rainbow effect from your fingers all day long. it's worth the 10 bucks for two.
I went with a Skinomi wet apply protector. It was hard going back to a non-glass protector, NB it no way I could do the partial fit ones that are currently available. Pretty satisfied with it, very clear and feels pretty good. I'm still keeping an eye out for some better fitting glass ones in the future.

Since the screen has rounded (2.5d) feature on top and bottom, it's nearly impossible to cover the screen entirely with glass.
