2013.11.16The manufacturer intends to add new features to the unit, they are currently developing an OBD II system, I assume this would be via USB. They say it will require additional hardware.
Sooner than that, they plan to release wireless mirror link for Android phones.
I asked about Bluetooth compatibility, they said my request would be sent to their engineer to include Bluetooth modules. Whether this actually gets included or not, we will have to see.

Workaround
Resolved
Updated 2014.01.20Newest issues will be put at the top, solved issues, or issues with workarounds will be moved to the bottom.
Unable to remove applications that are device administrators without factory reset due to security menu being disabled.
Many applications are unable to "see" the MicroSD card, so the choice of music players is limited. The mount point is "mnt/usb/mmcblk1p1".
Despite selecting "Front Speakers Only" for navigation sound, the sound comes out of the rear speakers too. Setting to "Front Right" appears to work correctly.
Bluetooth is restricted to phones only. (Unsure if this is hardware or software related, talking to manufacturer suggests hardware limitation).
Bluetooth dongles do not work.
There is a "pop" from the speakers sometimes when changing applications that control sound, this is extremely obvious if you have a subwoofer installed. It happens when the unit is turned on, and when going from mute, to a volume level.
Screen brightness when buttons illuminated is not user-configurable. This means it may be too bright or dark depending on the conditions. For example, when it is only mildly dark outside, and you have your lights on, the screen is very hard to see.
Workaround: Enable constant illumination from the "Extra Settings" menu by setting the option to "CLOSE", this will set the keys to always illuminate. Then use an application such as Twlight to control the screen brightness based on sunset and sunrise.
Random issue when downloading large applications. The progress will usually get to more than 50%, and then no progress is made.
Workaround: The only fix I have found so far is to stop the download, reboot the unit, start the download, and repeat until download continues. It should download from where you cancelled. This appears to be caused by a limited download cache size.
Steering wheel controls only work with default applications.
Resolved: Open the radio (this does not appear to work with the music app), then hold the back arrow in the bottom right hand corner, the app will close, allowing steering wheel controls to function with other apps.
Most recent default application always opens on boot and continues to play, even if paused. This includes the radio, music, video, and iPod applications.
Resolved: Open the radio (this does not appear to work with the music app), then hold the back arrow in the bottom right hand corner, the app will close, and no default app will open on boot.
USB Debugging is password protected.
Resolved: The password is "[email protected]". Credit to @nikko82
Screenshot feature does not work, when trying to save the screenshot, a save error appears.
Resolved: This is solved in system version 2.6.60.

FAQ
Can I root this unit?
Please see the "Root" section above.
HELP! My unit is stuck in a boot-loop!
Place the update files on your MicroSD card (see "Firmware Updates" section). Then turn the unit on whilst holding down the volume knob and home button. This should start the update process.
Can I use Bluetooth OBD devices with Torque?
Not at the moment, Bluetooth is only for phones and Bluetooth dongles do not work.
Does it have the full Play Store?
Yes, it has the Play Store and all compatible applications are available for download.
What is the boot time?
18 seconds to home screen, 22 seconds until music application starts. If you use the radio application rather than the music player, the radio sounds as soon as the unit receives power.
Where can I buy one?
There are many listings on eBay/AliExpress under the search term "android 4.1 car", some have resistive, and some have capacitive screens. There is also the mention of a faster 1.2GHz dual core, however the unit actually has a 1GHz dual core CPU.
How good is the radio?
The radio reception seems fine, as does the sound quality.
Is there a Wiki page?
Yes.

Android doesn't have NTFS support, let alone EFS which is built on top of Microsoft's filesystem, but it's capable of using the same cypher algorithms as EFS (AES, SHA, DES) though. The only thing Android needs to be able to decrypt them during the upgrade process, is the manufacturer's or firmware developer's public key, which I believe is stored among the system root certificates.
This, providing EFS or a compatible file encryption mechanism was used to encrypt those files.

If we think about it, Android isn't even part of the equation reading those files really, just a bootloader or the unit's firmware. So the decription layer would have to be built into the bootloader or the raw firmware (read assembly or whatever)... I highly doubt it would be EFS.
As another observation, all filenames remain the same across the two updates and only one file has changed (and it's name remains the same. There goes the hash/sum/md5 like naming theory)...
Code:
diff android-4.1-2.6.40/ android-4.1-2.6.60/
Binary files android-4.1-2.6.40/8e3513e2-ea4a-11e2-8a0f-000c29ba27c0 and android-4.1-2.6.60/8e3513e2-ea4a-11e2-8a0f-000c29ba27c0 differ

Yes, as you say, it is the only file that changes between the updates, and it is also the largest file so I think we can assume this contains the data we want.
Looking at the third update I have, it seems that file is again the only one changed. I will be testing this update out and uploading it shortly.
The file names must have some importance, as otherwise they could just call them "system.img", or something simple, but still encrypt them.

The default application yes, although I did not try what happens with multiple USB drives. The doubleTwist music player was unable to read a USB memory stick, or the MicroSD card. The actual unit seems to be able to cope with multiple memory sticks, I have tried three, and all were accessible using the ES File Explorer application.
The internal storage is mounted at "mnt/sdcard".
The MicroSD card is mounted at "mnt/usb/mmcblk1p1".
USB memory sticks are mounted at "mnt/usb/sda1", "mnt/usb/sdb1" etc.

Have you checked for the presence of a hidden file called, ".nomedia" in the MicroSD card? The presence of this file will let most media players to skip this path for scanning for multimedia files.

You might want to try a few different players to see if it's the unit or the player...
From http://www.doubletwist.com/help/question/how-do-i-switch-from-internal-storage-to-sd-card/
We recommend only using one volume to store your media. If you choose the memory card, please do not store media files on the internal storage location.
Also, there is not standardized way of implementing SD card support so each manufacturer implements SD card supportly differently. This is why doubleTwist may not always support the SD card on your device.

I don't know if you can without root but you should be able to as normal user in a virtual terminal link /mnt/sdcard to /sdcard
Code:
ln -s /mnt/sdcard /sdcard
... Something to try. I think it won't survive reboot, but if it works you can possibly make a script for it to happen on boot.

It depends on the player.
All file explorer applications such as ES File Explorer, and Astro, have no issues seeing the files. In fact, if you choose an MP3 file and select the player of your choice to open the file, it will indeed open and play, however it does not show up in the list of available songs.
One example of a player than can see the files is Poweramp.
"/mnt/sdcard" is already linked to "/sdcard", but this is the internal USB storage, not external. Perhaps it can be unlinked, and the MicroSD card, "mnt/usb/mmcblk1p1" linked there instead.

Peter's listing on eBay mentions the headunit supports wireless keyboards, which are bluetooth devices. Also, being it Android 4.1, it should support USB OBD2 scanners like this one on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/OBDLink-OBD-II-Interface-Adapter-425101/dp/B002M07XHO
This one is pretty expensive compared to the bluetooth ones, but I've seen it used by dealers to diagnose their cars during repairs.

Best to keep discussion for the 4.1 unit in this thread now.
My keyboard is not Bluetooth, it has a small receiver that is probably 2.4GHz, and it works fine.
Unfortunately there is no Bluetooth menu on the device. However, there are a few interesting quirks with the unit, one being that the security menu is disabled, however, if you try to enable something (I forget what, maybe storing location data or something), it tells you that a lock code must be set, so you press okay, and what opens? The security menu...
I will try installing Torque at some point, as on my phone it requests to turn on Bluetooth, so maybe it will access the menu on the unit. I don't have much hope for this working though.
Perhaps the USB device will work, but I do not have one, and do not intend on buying one at that price.

KEEP IN MIND ALL MY EXPERIENCE IS WITH THE 2.3 OUKU but this might help:
Usb Keyboard is natively supported on all of them, if it's wireless with its own dongle (not bluetooth) that's just all it is, a usb keyboard.
For the bluetooth menu install Quick Bluetooth Lite from Market. I was lucky enough one of the dongles I had lying around worked (one didn't) mine sais "KINIVO" on it.
There is a similar app on the market to use bluetooth keyboards.
...but with both of the above it all depends on the ability to add a BT dongle, the internal one is not visible to android as I understand it (and as it was with the other units OUKU, winCE etc.
I have that exact ODBII reader mainly because I wanted a reliable one that could get the most codes... off topic here, but there is differences. Torque forums are a good resource. I haven't tried USB with it yet. There is cheap usb only out there, but I guess there is two different kinds of usb-to-serial chips... you MIGHT have one of the two installed if they included it....
Bottom line, it doesn't matter what Android supports. What matters is what modules the chinese manufacturer compiled in the kernel or included as a loadable module...
You could get a hint looking at the /home/rick/OUKU/stock/4.1/test/lib/modules/ folder...

No, you don't have to buy such devices just for testing purposes. I have plans on buying one for my Santa Fe i45, because USB OBD2 scanners are faster and way more reliable that BT ones, and I'll need it to plug directly into my laptop or the OTG adapter in my SGS4.

Try to plug them when your stereo is turned off. I recall someone saying that you have to plug in WiFi and 3G dongles with the headunit turned off, so they get detected by Android when it boots up. Perhaps this is the case with BT dongles too.

Hmm, I said that. I put it in the main post too. Maybe someone said it about OUKU too, I don't know.
But yes, I do usually turn off the stereo and plug the device in before booting.

Then it must be like sciallo said, kernel has to be compiled with the required modules to make bluetooth dongles work, much like Hal9k's firmware.

Might want to get a terminal for android, like Android Terminal Emulator. Then you can check to see what sort of linux modules/drivers are pre-installed. For example:
Code:
$ lsmod
lsmod
blackberry 1084 0 - Live 0xbf10a000
cdc_acm 15311 0 - Live 0xbf100000
sierra 9201 0 - Live 0xbf0f7000
option 13120 0 - Live 0xbf0ea000
usb_wwan 8010 1 option, Live 0xbf0e2000
hso 29290 0 - Live 0xbf0d3000
tnx_mxt_ts 15886 0 - Live 0xbf0c9000
cp210x 10931 2 - Live 0xbf0c0000
pl2303 10925 0 - Live 0xbf0b7000
usbserial 26415 8 blackberry,sierra,option,usb_wwan,cp210x,pl2303, Live 0xbf0a8000
88w8688_wlan 362475 1 - Live 0xbf041000
tun 13189 2 - Live 0xbf037000
omap3_isp 97716 0 - Live 0xbf014000
omap_hsmmc 14041 0 - Live 0xbf000000
$
This will give you an example of modules installed. In the above example is from the Parrot Asteroid Smart. The output gives you an idea of the sort of devices that you'll be able to use with the unit. For example, there are the cp210x and pl2303 drivers for Serial UART to USB devices. So, for example one could use a USB ODB2 cable as long as they use either a Prolific or Silcon Labs UART.

Something that is not well known is that Torque Pro supports USB ODB2 cables. The product linked earlier from Amazon is an ODB2 scanner by Scantool which is a professional model. (Analagous to buying a Fluke Multimeter vs an Innova) They do have another model that costs a little bit more and supports USB and Bluetooth or even WiFi if you prefer. But, there are some less expensive knock offs that you can get for less a fraction of the price. So, if you know the AN-21 U supports a particular Serial to USB driver then you might be able to use one with Torque Pro. The nice thing about USB ODB2 cables over Bluetooth ones is that the data stream is closer to real time and has less lag than a BT ODB2 adapter around the same price.

Some places hide various menus from the settings control panel, but you can often them bring them up using intents through Activity Manager. However, finding the available intents sometimes requires root but you do not need to be root to execute them. For example:

However, not all Bluetooth software conforms to the Android standards and will force close if it doesn't. In most cases if a Bluetooth driver is installed then a good app to get is Bluetooth Auto-Pair. It allows the manual settings to pair various devices even if the manufacturer implements an artificial limitation on the devices that they will support.

You definitely seem to know your stuff!
That is an extremely informative post, thank you.
I'll take another read tomorrow and do some tests on the unit, see what I can find out.

This is actually a pretty bad blanket statement. It actually depends on the Linux modules included with the Android device. And in fact, I played with an Android TV device that had fuse.ko modules installed and supported NTFS partitions. The best way to tell what sort of filesystem that your Android device supports is through "/proc/filesystems".
Code:
$ cat /proc/filesystems
cat /proc/filesystems
nodev sysfs
nodev rootfs
nodev bdev
nodev proc
nodev cgroup
nodev tmpfs
nodev sockfs
nodev usbfs
nodev pipefs
nodev anon_inodefs
nodev devpts
cramfs
squashfs
nodev ramfs
vfat
msdos
nodev mqueue
nodev mtd_inodefs
nodev oprofilefs
nodev ubifs
$
The first column signifies whether or not the filesystem is currently present on your android device and the second column shows all the various types that it supports.

While you're at it, you might consider installing SRT AppScanner. If the device is vulnerable to Master Key either exploit bug 8219321 and/or 9695860 then there's a good chance that Cydia Impactor can root your device.

I thought you needed to connect your device to a PC to use Cydia Impactor? Also, not sure if it would be required, but USB debugging is password protected.

Well, technically you don't have too. It works off of Android Debug Bridge and can work over WiFi or USB. However, it does need debugging to be enabled. I missed the part that it is password protected. However, the masterkey scripts might still be able to help gain access to root if it hasn't been patched on the device.

[JAX SLX7786] Android 4.4 Head Unit - RK3188, 1GB RAM, 1024x600

This thread is dedicated to discussion, research and mods for the JAX SLX7786 Head Unit range.
What is it?
The JAX SLX7786 is a series of touchscreen Android 4.4 head unit. The most common size reported is 10.1", although 9" models have been seen in the wild.
The common characteristics of these head units are:
Specifications
OS Android 4.4.4
CPU RK3188 series (PX3)
Cores 4 cores
MHz 1.6GHz
RAM series DDR3
RAM capacity 1G
ROM series iNand Flash
ROM capacity 16G
Double SD card/MuIti-Media Maximum capacity: 64G
Screen Size Different Car DVD model different size (Edit: this particular one is 10.2")
Screen Resolution 1024*600
Screen Panel CTP (Capacity Touch Panel)
GPS module GPS/Beidou
WIFI Built-in(IEEE 802.1 lb/g/n)
3G Unicom/Telecom/Moblie(Adapter)
USB(Port) 3 pieces USB2.0(Extensible)
SD card slot 2 pieces
Moblie HD Support FAT/NTFS
Who makes them?
Good question. As far as I can gather it's a similar arrangement to the MTCB units; a number of manufacturers sell the unit based off of a central reference design. Who makes the reference design, and therefore who holds the kernel source, I do not know.
How can I get one?
The main place I have seen these for sale has been Aliexpress; most of the 10.1" units on the market seem to be this particular unit/ROM. The only other 10.1" units on the market (as far as I'm aware) are Joying units and pretty clearly marked as such.
The only surefire way to make sure it is a SLX7786 unit is to get the seller to send you a photo or screenshot of the build number under the System -> About page and check whether it matches the build mentioned below.
I think I already have one. How can I tell?
The easiest way to tell is looking at the System -> About page on the unit. If your build number contains the following then you have a SLX7786 unit:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
JAX or 885 as first three characters, and
Contains WQ-16EN
The full details of the build number are as follows:
[VENDOR]-[YY][MM][DD][HH][MM][0G]-WQ-16EN-[CARMAKE]
Where:
[VENDOR] = JAX or 885. Unsure why this changes from unit to unit, assuming different vendors.
[YY] = Build year, [MM] = build month and so on.
[0G] = String may or may not appear depending on model
[WQ] = Assuming this is OEM, like KLD and JY is for MTCB units
[16] = Not sure
[EN] = English ROM
[CARMAKE] = M6 for Mazda 6, ACCORD8 for Honda Accord, etc
How can I help XDA development?
Ask the seller for the most recent update, citing the bugs listed below. Share link with me via PM, or upload to Google Drive and PM me the link.
Do a full backup with Partitions Backup (excluding /user and /userdata), upload to Google Drive and PM me the link.

Music player: Yes, although you can't use steering wheel controls to skip tracks. I'm using Poweramp.
Home screen: yes, just install another launcher and it will ask you if you want to change launchers the first time you press home. Select the one you downloaded and click "always". Personally I'm using Car Launcher Pro and it works fantastic (and has on screen music controls) although it's a paid app. See the picture of my setup for a preview.
Hey i would like to add some technical issues i have with this rom.
1.)I like to confirm that you can not use the back and forward track buttons on other apps than the stock app provided.
2.) Under the car settings jax menu, entering the password 1234 grants you access to additional features. My gain controls in these menu do nothing. Bluetooth source isn't any louder, aux etc when adjusted.
3.)Was not able to change the default music app with a skin version or anything. (tried to remove via root, the installed a musicskin.apk in the system folder.
4.) Steering wheel controls is buggy, had to fiddle with it on different days until all the buttons are map, then no problem
5.)Viper4Android does not work with the stock apps (radio,bt, music, video). Works on some apps when i first installed it, reinstall doesn't work on some. Buggy
1.) Was able to root with KingRoot.

Hi bro,
I have solution for Audio output issue...
Today I found the solution, so no need to root anything.
While Mapping the steering controls., don't map -Vol.
Now my Audio output is same as my Original Car stereo.
Reason : I will post a video for this issue, because I cannot explain here...

Also if you know any app which shows both Audio & Video playlist in same app.

Your build seems a lot newer than the ones I have. Would you be able to back them up using Partitions Backup and send them to me? Google Drive links are probably the best.
EDIT - Don't worry about /user and /userdata partitions as this is your own data and not part of the ROM. Sorry, should have mentioned this before :cyclops:

Just a small update...
I've managed to extract my stock ROM from my unit using the Partition Backup tool by Wanam listed in the OP. I plan on uploading the dump, as well as the two other firmwares collected to date, to AndroidFileHost as soon as I get developer status approved there.
Also I have added some tools to extract the firmware to post #2. The Rockchip drivers are fairly useless at the moment as we don't know how to connect to ADB, Fastboot or U-Boot (the bootloader), but the RK3xxx tools are what I'm using to work these ROMs. Again, as you need to be a member at 4PDA to download these (which is a pain to obtain) I will upload them to AndroidFileHost at the same time.
At some point this weekend I'll be doing a 3-way diff on the firmware we have so far to assess whether they are homogenous, i.e. can be flashed to any unit. I have a feeling they are, other than the apks in /system/app.
If it is indeed the case I'll release a modded ROM with SuperSU and (hopefully) Xposed and Viper4Android preinstalled to kick us off with custom ROMs. My endgame here is to have a source built kernel and have the device booting CM13, but as I know 9/10 of sweet f*** all about programming in Java or building from source I'm hoping somebody with dev knowledge will be able to assist.
If not, I'd be willing to kick off a bounty to get a unit for a dev who knows what they are doing so we can get some up-to-date firmware on here.
Also I've noticed that @AbduL_PT may be able to port TWRP to the device; he has already ported it to a number of other RK3188 devices so he may be able to do this one. @AbduL_PT if you're still around give us a yell
Let me know what you guys think.
For those of you that are considering purchasing one of these units, they are now AU$363 (15%) off on Aliexpress from this particular seller for 11/11 day. If you're in Australia you can also use CashRewards for another 11.11% off.
Just bought another one for my partners' Mazda 6. Yes, our family has two Mazda 6s  mine is the Mazdaspeed6/Mazda 6 MPS though.

Kyle you are the man! Keep up the good work! :good::good::good::good::good:
I gotta read into backup the rom but then i can do it no problem.
I would like to note that i bought my unit a few weeks ago.
Also, i can listen to music while the gps app is open. Sygic, and iGo maps is what i used.
For those of you playing at home, I didn't realise that Xposed pre-Lollipop didn't require a flashable zip to install, as I only got into it with Marshmallow. Xposed installs fine on the unit with the installer from rovo's page.
I did play around with GravityBox [KK] shortly today, doesn't look like I can make the soft keys appear as I'd like though :crying: (as mine is installed in a RHD car the buttons are on the wrong side). Quite a lot of things actually do work though so it is running OK.

I also bought my unit not that long ago - 23/10/2016 actually. Given my car is a little bit older maybe mine is old stock as they're not moving them as quick.
Updated third OP post with information on system.img.
The findings on this mean I can cook a custom ROM and anybody can flash it, provided they back up their /system/app folder before installing and restore it afterwards.

Now I'm downloading "4.4 885 B版 20161110.rar" firmware from the above highlighted link, I will update you guys about this firmware after installation.
UPDATE : The above firmware "4.4 885 B版 20161110.rar" has same GUI as I posted the below image, but this firmware is just a crap for my Honda Accord. Because I can see only Home Screen, nothing is responsive, it looks like Hang. I have tried to restart the Unit, but still nothing is working
This Firmware has different launcher, it includes Music player within the Home Screen. Also the music player is different.

Please look closely at the Home Screen

You are a legend thanks!
I can see at least three packages there that are for the SLX7786 - 安卓4.4老马六专用软件.rar (which is for the Mazda "Horse" 6, my car), and all the ones for the Accords, which are for yours. The others I'm not sure of, I'll have to crack them open and have a look.
In case anybody else is planning on downloading these, you can download from Baidu without having an account by using this Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey script. I haven't been able to get our device added to AndroidFileHost yet, so I'll be uploading the files as soon as I do.
EDIT - After some poking around I think I've stumbled across a repository for these units. Most of the units are designatured 7706, not 7786. Even more interestingly, there seems to be some files marked with a "STM8" designation, as well as a project file. Looking it up, the STM8 is a microcontroller that can be programmed for MCU use. We might have MCU source here, but I'm not sure. Somebody better versed in microcontrollers would be able to tell.
I also found a file with an update for the ix35 which might help the Russians I linked in the previous thread.

Hi Kylemd,
Any update for the firmware which you have downloaded ?
Does it works with you ?

E-ink GPS topographic’s map

Have you ever dreamed about be able to carry with you a device that will not leave you in the middle of nowhere by running out of battery, depriving you of usefull data at the worst moment, when you needed it ?!
Few years ago i was very convinced of the powerful ability of the E-ink screen’s technologies to save the précious energy of lithium’s batterys. But i was disapointed how theses screens where used for.. Most of the time, they were only used for e-book reader.. and that’s all.
That’s why i’m here today, to share with you my work and research about the modding and hacking of the Nook Simple Touch of Barnes & Nobles.
Actually it's more like a mash up of all the existing work made by the community of XDA and paraglider.

One of my last "issue" is to improve the GPS software solution (actually UsbGps4Droid) by a native serial driver like this :
* https://github.com/kostya740/gps-glonass-android-driver
* https://github.com/kconger/android-serial-gps-driver
Help would be appreciate.
@nmyshkin i'm really impress by your work on the NST !
I just follow the process to setup the modded settings.apk and the NTGAppsAttack.
I'm looking to "enable GPS" function in Android. i'm a little bit stuck here.
In Settings.apk > Security > Location is well activated.
But apps with GPS func still claim gps is not enable in settings.
Also Gmaps is not starting, is just showing the root acces allowed pop-in but i think it's another problem.
I'm pretty sure my installation of https://github.com/dipcore/gps-glonass-android-driver is ok so .. i'm a little bit lost.

Unfortunately I need to get back to that updating GApps post. It seems at this time that just about everything has died but I did think network location was still working the last time I checked. I looked at my NST running 1.2.1 and GMaps there shows a location "circle" near my house and gives an accuracy rating, so I think it is still functioning.
What you describe about the root access popup sounds like the toggle app I wrote for turning GMaps on and off since it runs in the background a lot otherwise. But you still need the actual Maps app installed for that app to work. Did you by any chance forget to install the actual Maps app?
The Settings app pushes a "1" value into settings.db for network location via gps & wifi, whether they exist or not if it sees the Network Location app. Other apps should see this, but it's hard to know what is happening inside since much of the Android 2.1 OS in the NST has been removed by B&N and the GApps installation is now so shaky. I wish I had better information for you but your detailed knowledge exceeds mine, I'm sure. I'm waiting for my 1.2.2 NST to charge up so I can check Network Location there and see if it is still working.
In the meantime, if you could give me an example of an apk that attempts to use network location and will still run on the NST, I can give it a try to see what happens on my devices.
I wish I had better information for you but your detailed knowledge exceeds mine, I'm sure.

I would like this was the truth but i'm really quite a noob about deep android system. also i'm very news in the NST world.
Btw, when i try to install "Maps.apk" from the NewGApps.zip :
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb install Maps.apk
Maps.apk: 1 file pushed. 0.8 MB/s (7025142 bytes in 8.889s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Maps.apk
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_UNEXPECTED_EXCEPTION]
rm failed for -f, Read-only file system
The Gmaps who not run and just show the pop-in is the "Google_Maps_1.apk"
I have attached the apps i use who require location below.

I can confirm that Network Location is still working on my 1.2.2 NST. However, Network Location is not the same thing as a GPS radio, and I think that is what the two apps you attached in your previous post are looking for (one says so explicitly). So without the fallback ability to get location data from an NLP app, they will not be able to run. That's the beauty of GMaps. It can use WiFi NLP if that's all that is available. There are no stand-alone NLP apps for Android 2.1, as far as I know. The earliest one I am aware of is for Android 4.x, and that's by Mozilla. There might be others.
As for Maps refusing to install, I am puzzled. I downloaded the zip to see if perhaps the file inside was corrupted, but I had no problems with it. It is supposed to be a system app. Perhaps if you just place it into /system/app, set the permissions as rw-r-r and reboot, it will then work.
Edit: yes, on looking at your adb install I see it rejected the procedure because the system was read-only. You would have to mount the system as r/w before installing. It might be easier just to use a root-enabled file manager and "install" as I described above.

Thank's you very much for your time, I'm actually restoring to a previous state i think i have miss something.
I'm disapointed about the Location service who doesn't include GPS radio.
The thing i doesn't underdstand is why i'm not able to ask to te system to exploit the GPS serial driver i setup.
I came from Gnu/Linux, so for me there is the hardware, kernel, driver, the software who exploit the device throught the driver.
I guess the Android provider wrap the location and drivers interaction to the apps.
I should make more research about it..

For what it is worth, there is no entry in settings.db for GPS radio on the NST. Whether there is one in other devices, I have not checked yet. If it's just a matter of telling settings.db that the radio hardware which you added is "on" so that apps which inquire will find out, it should be easy enough to add an entry to the database. Then you would need a way to push a "1" or a "0" as is needed.
I'm guessing that to get your implementation of the GPS to work on the device you bypassed this artifact. There is probably also a page in the original NST Settings which has a place for turning on the "cell radio". In fact I know there is, but I don't remember how to get there any longer. I don't know whether that's sufficient or whether there is another entry that is specific to GPS. Either way, there might be more info the system wants before it can respond to queries from apps and tell them there is actually a real piece of hardware which is on, since the original system lacked that.
I was trying to get a GPS app to work on my Glow3.
I got the kernel and ntxconfig modified to use an unused UART.
I didn't use a mock location provider or an actual LocationProvider, I just did the NMEA in the app.
It worked fine, but the stupid pint-sized GPS receiver used one of those stupid toggling ground contacts for power on/off.
You could never get the thing to reliably turn on, so I got bored and the project subsided.

I believe i have already read your post, it is that ? : https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-touch/general/gps-nook-t4021145
the toggling is GPIO pin controlled with low / high state ?
Personnaly i use this little circuit about GPIO pin :
Have GPS provider will allowing the use of already well developped map software with all the feature.
That's my only wish actually...
If i have well underdanded to permit this a backport from another device, making a new rom with the serial GPS driver included and the whole signed correctly. i'm right ?!

Yes, that's the one.
Actually, my GPS came with a board with regulator and pushbutton from SparkFun and it was still balky.
It's been discontinued since then.
I've never done the deep dive into LocationProvider to see how to make it work for real.
It seems that everybody just hacks into mock location providers, which is ugly.

not really cool, i guess you can find a low cost chinese gps (BN-180) for few dollars, it will work well too.
I'm totally agree with that, mock location is pretty ugly.
To be honest i have not your experience and knowledge on the Nook, but also on android itself i guess..
So i take this occasion to ask you if you can spend a bit of time to see how it look.
This might not be very helpful but since onboard chip inside NST does not support GPS (or to my sadness neither FM radio which would be cool and I presume less power hungry when used with Renate USB sound mod then using online WiFi radio) let's turn the table and use what is already there to our advantage. Aside GPS there is something called WiFi geolocation. Why am I mentioning this? Well if that can be enabled to be used on maps of your choice and work from NST that would be awesome and sufficient for majority of users. True it will not be as helpful on mountain hiking trip there you could use it only as a ordinary map augmented with old trusty brain Mk.1 processor but its better then nothing at all. Someone wanted and managed to create screensaver for this device as transparent screen so that it shows the page where are you stopped reading. That would be good thing to be added in implementing any map solution for NST. Let's be reasonable refresh time on device is to long for it to be used as car navigation device. I have yet to try Fastmode but I would not put my money on that will change something. Even on phones GPS can be sluggish (seen that) and I believe that processing power or the way the data are feed to processor is slowing thing to a crawl. For crawling on the ground that is good enough though. If you use WiFi geolocation and that works fine then you can try to sort issues with GPS. One thing at the time is best approach in my humble opinion. There are several WiFi geolocation services and few of them are open. Still we must have in mind that using WiFi geolocation have raised some privacy issues to the point that one of the largest proponents of its use Mozilla foundation is on a path of abandoning it. Therefore who knows for how long WiFi geolocation will be available. Just my two bits thoughts on this topic.

PX5 S32F0 Head Unit Known Bugs: Inputs for Custom ROM deployment.

In this thread we collected enough money to help our friend @Malaysk to buy a device that will be used for a ROM development.
Now I am asking all the owners of a PX5 with S32F0 MCU to help @Malaysk work, reporting here the known bugs of their units. This will help him don't wasting time searching them and it will speed up the ROM development.
Add a post below, reporting the following information (following is mine.):
Model (Vendor): Erisin ES8176J PX5 64 Gb ROM 4Gb RAM Android 10 (Jeep Grand Cherokee)
ANDROID : 175134
MCU: S32F0_LEIMA-W_20200703-16:29_HD1_7708_D_FF_C8
APP: PX5C_C55_HA4_LeiMa_LeiMaUI2-0000-10-JS_2020-07-16-1734
Found Bugs:
1) Bluetooth Settings missed from Main Menu -->Connections (Pairing of devices like OBD, performed inside Telephony app)
2) Bluetooth AD2P App missing (BT Music supported inside the Telephony app)
3) FM Radio AF=On setting lost every time the app is closed
4) FM Radio "power Off" button missing
5) Bluetooth Ring and Call Volume too high at every reboot (settings are lost)
6) Stock launcher has only 2 desktop spaces for the Apps and is not possible to add more.
7) Steering Wheel commands are "pre-defined" in factory (Can Bus) and cannot be changed (The App is working only with resistive one)
8) "Ok Google" not working. It is impossible to enable the voice recognition learn process (button greyed)
Suggested Improvements (Ideas for @Malaysk):
1) Root
2) Rework of the apps GUI (Radio, BT, Music, etc.)
3) Customizable list of the Apps that are running instead of the stock
4) Complete Power Off button
5) Battery Voltage in status bar
6) Status Bar customizable in terms of items, size, etc.
7) Customizable Steering Wheel codes
8) Screen light intensity auto dimmed by Time of the Day
9) New launcher with media info on the home page

For number 2) Bluetooth is a big mess, like you say, we don't even have the option in Settings. I would just like to be able to connect to a bluetooth device using the head unit.
For number 7), it would be indeed nice if we could program Steering Wheel buttons that are sent over CANbus.
additional:
10) Zlink app only supports Carplay, I would like it to work with Android Auto instead. I've seen different versions of Zlink passing by that support Android Auto...
Looks like all the same bugs which exist in MTCX units. Probably a port of the bugs, a copy as the Chinese are so well known for.
Check out the joying thread for the new units with a super cheap and cheerful processor and different MCU; same bugs.

My pre installed version of Zlink is supporting very well Android Auto on my Samsung Note 10.
Perhaps Malaysk could integrate it in the ROM.

Probably the porting is only on the Android part, with the necessary adaptations for the different MCU.

Yes! I'd like that
Bugs:
- unable to update Zlink (its included in the rom once deleted can´t be installed again, only by whole reset, not even the same APK i extracted before)
- ZLink crashing after 2-20 Minutes, can´t update Zlink
- Can SWC is increasing or decreasing Volume by 2 steps instead of one
- no Bluetooth while connected to zlink
wishes:
- customisable physical buttons (long/short press)
- changeable standard apps for radio, MP3 ...
- fix for volume on SWC
- day/night by lightswitch position
- support for a USB hub if possible (not tried it yet), as one more USB needed
- support for Autokit on the zlink-USB-port(alternative to zlink)
- option to really close apps instead of minimizing to taskmanager (have 3-5 DAB-z´s open from time to time)
- button combination to boot in recovery
- customisable apps to switch through when pressing "mode"-Button
- easy way to choose apps for splittscreen
- separate channel to adjust Sub-Out Volume
- display the station or song in the instrument via can
- navigation directions to show in instrument (arrows for example in a VW) via can

USB hub is supported, I have mine connected to a DAB+ receiver and USB stick through a powered USB hub
---------- Post added at 03:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:59 PM ----------
one more bug, I'd like to see addressed:
- when I put the car in reverse gear, it automatically starts the reverse camera app. I've seen 'fixes' that say to remove the app, but I would like to keep the app (I still want to use it when I start the app myself), but not start the app when I put the car in reverse gear. Make this an option that can be selected.
thx!

MCU-firmware is anders; er is een radiomodule 6686 en 7708., controleer, anders wordt de radio niet wakker met geluid..... this i have from the Russian site.!!
I would like to have the option DSP updated to the latest.... i have this radiomodule >> (7708) ... and maybe a new DAB+ app .. that just works better .. instead of the one preinstalled ..

Just use DAB-Z for DAB+. Works perfect for me!
I think you would have to physically upgrade the DSP-processor for real 16ch DSP. From what i read the DSP in our units is a fake. It has just 8 channels.
It would be nice if a balloon with the selected station was displayed on the screen for a moment when changing the radio station. When the radio works in the background and you switch stations using the button, we would know what the current station is.

for the reverse... put the following code in the factory setting screen 0000121, a page should open with additional settings (Boot Config). I remember that I saw something there about "Back Camera". I am not sure about what changing this setting does, but a try could not arm... I hope!

Nope... DAB Z should work even if you have the stock app installed. Is one of the first app I installed on my hu and I am using it regularly. Do you have a normal DAB usb dongle ?

Hello everyone. Guys, I just want to write you a few points so that everyone understands this.
1. The device has not even been sent to me yet, the status is awaiting dispatch (it is written that within 15 days, but the seller promised to send it as soon as possible).
2. The choice of sending the device was only regular Aliexpress mail (I do not know how long it will be delivered).
3. Working on the mod firmware will take a long time, as soon as I receive the device, I hope you understand that this is not done quickly. And this is a completely new device for me, although I suspect that it is similar from the forum thread for MCU MTCE.
4. Not everything that you have written here is possible to do.
5. I will try to make a ready-made firmware with ROOT access very quickly and post it here.
Thank you for understanding. I read this forum, but very rarely answer and do not use private messages (there is only one spam)

General questions about FF-5000 8227L demo

Hi All,
I got a used head unit which is I think an FF-5000 (maybe Xonrich brand?).
* Which is the newest firmware/MCU for this unit?
* Is there any option to replace the factory apps (radio, music player, dsp controller app) to better looking ones?
* I cannot customize the home screen widgtes. Is there any trick for this? I would like to replace the apps shortcuts on the home screen.
* Screen is too bright in night mode however I have already changed it to the minimum.
* This device is able to show canbus info on the screen for example, door status, outdoor temp etc... Is that possible to edit canbus config to show AC status as well?

Hi, just use FCC launcher instead of regular one, it has many settings and nice interface. In hidden menu (code 8888) you can change what icons to appear, including AC climate if that option is available, and has other options tweeks for anything, just combine. It won't do any harm to device.
Here is a pic of mine tweeked with FCC launcher :
I have another question regarding ALPS FF5000 - 8227L demo software
If any of you are having problems with radio antenna , I mean the radio signal is to low and sometimes when rainy some radio stations are out of range or with noise or losing signal (AF retunes non stop). What to do to fix that or to amplify signal, now is rather somewhat at low level. Tried with bought radio amplifier but signal is improved by a little. Also tried in advanced settings with RADIO / FM sense bar is up to 40 and no changes in signal. RADIO SETTINGS :
ICC 5
RADIO AREA: EUROPE
FM SENSE 40
AF tune ON
OSC : 4M-12M
I have an infotainment 8227L (FF-5000) based on Android 9 (the number on the start screen).
Screen About Device:
But (maybe after installing an app) the APKs can no longer be installed.
Error: "Error when analyzing the package"
I tried with configurations, I tried with factory reset, I tried with an update from the 8227l-8.bin and 8227l-8.upd files in a usb stick.
But nothing, I can't solve.
Can you help me?
Thank you
For bhudcser:
Hello.
I've encountered the same problem:
Even adjusting the brightness to a minimum is annoying and dangerous for night driving.
There is no possibility to adjust it software.
The brightness depends on the voltage to which the monitor is subjected, which is higher than that of the battery. A good adjustment is achieved with a range of 14 - 19V. Unfortunately their voltage booster (regulated by a square wave that comes microcontroller) is gross.
I tried to change a resistance of the booster regulation, but the results were very unsatisfactory.
Therefore I made an external electronic card and designed a buster. Now I adjust the brightness with the knob optimally. In addition, I have provided a photoresistance placed inside the passenger compartment, which varies the brightness also according to the lighting conditions automatically (for example when I enter or leave a gallery).
Knob Photo resistance
I also intervened on the backlight of the side keys (excessive too...)
I'm sorry to give you this bad news,
but unfortunately nothing can be done by acting on the original configurations.

It happens to me with APKs that before I normally installed from a USB stick, but now (maybe because of an app or I don't know..)
I can no longer install even copying them to the internal memory and trying from there.
I tried to give consent to apps of unknown origin to Google

I can't find other references to APKs in the infotainment configuration menus.
I rebooted the device and tried again to install several APKs, but the error "Error while analyzing the package" always appears!

Hi.
II searched for the solution on the Internet for hours, but nothing.
Since the device does not have an option entry to enable unknown apps, I installed the "Hidden settings" app from the play store and looked for the option.
Finally I found it, but unfortunately it is fixed on "disabled" and does not allow you to change it.
Maybe there is a block created by some previously launched app that has performed operations allowed in root,
maybe I should root the device,
maybe there is a need for some sort of reformatting that only the manufacturer can do....
Unfortunately I can not even resign myself to install only from the play store, because some applications I have only as APK (example that of my dashcam).
I find myself an unusable infotainment!
I don't know what to do anymore...
did you try this?
click on the gear where it says HMI: and put in 8888 as the password,
go to OTHER
find INSTALL and set it to enable
find PROTECTION and set it to DISABLE
Hello.
Thank you for the information.
I did as you indicated, in fact the INSTALL option is disabled.
Unfortunately when I try to activate it, it requires a password!

Hi, you have google voice commands just like in any android, just install search bar with microphone icon and try it
In my FF-5000 8227L device google voice command requires an online link.
I would need to give commands even where there is no telephone network coverage

If your device has wifi connection just connect to internet or just make your mobile phone as main network by creating a hotspot and connect headunit thru it.
My ff-5000 8227L owns 16Gb ROM (... flash) and 2Gb of RAM is mounted in a Jeep.
I often travel into narrow valleys and gorges where there is no internet signal coverage. So I need an app that allows OFFLINE voice commands.

Maybe sattelite connections ? It works with tv tuner usb card bought from ali express, In general this is not tested with headunits yet but it involves a small radio dish antenna and usb port in device (sattelite connections also uses radio frequencies similar to broadband routers/wifi), but I must say it is expensive and complicated.
Following this story you can download a program : https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/saiy-ltd/saiy-assistant/ and use this SAIY app or just use GOOGLE ASSISTANT !
I appreciate every idea ,
but I would avoid complicated and expensive solutions.
When I bought the car there was inserted as standard a navigator + mp3 player that accepted voice commands in different languages, all OFFLINE.
The management of the navigator maps was difficult, rudimentary and with paid updates, with a closed operating system.
I replaced it with the FF-5000 getting an Android system and the ability to load and update apps and maps at will, surf the net and more...
Unfortunately I thought I could use voice commands by simply loading an app, but it seems not so!
It seems almost impossible to me that there is no app for basic, simple,
TOTALLY OFFLINE
voice commands such as:
"Browse to location X",
"Call Mary",
or "Play the music track Y"...

[Firmware] QF001 (ROCO K706) Head Units with UIS 7862a/7862s (not FYT based)

The purpose of this thread is to consolidate links to firmware updates for these devices. Please do not use this thread for discussion. Go to the General Discussion thread for that. If you have a comment regarding one of the posts here please quote it and make your comment on the General Discussion thread.
In this thread post new links to update and MCU files with a brief description, the version, and in the case of MCU files post the devices it is for (S1-S4 or S5-S8). If you have a picture of the System Information screen that would be great too. Also if you have change logs you can post them here as well.
The firmware linked in the first opening post of the general thread.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum and wanted to join this discussion. I also recently got an android radio with hizpo's Qf001 built in. https://www.ebay.de/itm/394318953952
I have the following problems with the device: 1) The USB port on the front of the user is not working. However, the USB port for charging works.
2) I wanted to install FCC and create my own launcher. Unfortunately FCC doesn't start automatically and crashes after a while when I start it manually.
3) What I totally miss about the device is the GALA function, as well as Speed Volume Control. You can install the apps for it, but the device doesn't allow the apps to control the volume. I wrote to the seller on ebay and he sent me the following message
Dear Customer,
sorry for your trouble.
Please try updating the device and see if it can solve the problem.
The system firmware link:
https://jitufirmware1128.oss-eu-central-1.aliyuncs.com/update.zip
The MCU doc link
https://jitu375344745mcu1126.oss-eu-central-1.aliyuncs.com/mcu.bin
1.Download the two firmwares to your computer from the two links, they are <Update.zip> and <MCU.bin>, please do not unzip them.
2.Copy the <Update.zip> document to your Udisk root path. Copy the <MCU> document to your Udisk root path.
3.Connect your Udisk to our player, then follow Settings-General-System-Upgrade, and then it will update itself, please don't turn off the power during the upgrade. And the player will restart. This step takes about 6 minutes.
4. When you have finished upgrading the system, follow Settings-General-MCU-Upgrade - select the upgrade file - confirm and it will update itself. This step takes about 1 minute.
5.After you update everything, we also need to enable the Weather APK, please connect your cell phone wifi hotspot name as FYQP5QRG and YOU connect the player wifi to your cell phone hotspot, and then it will die Weather - Activate APK. If you are using an iPhone, please don't connect your iPhone to our player via Bluetooth before you enable Weather APK. This is very important. After enabling the Weather APK, you can connect your iPhone normally via Bluetooth.
6.The MCU upgrade may cause the touch screen and touch panel to work improperly. Please use your five fingers to touch the screen and enter calibration mode to adjust the touch screen. And regarding the touch panel, please follow the steps Settings-Factory-8888-OK-Touch-Learn button, this way YOU can set it right.
7.After the upgrade, you need to set the correct CANBUS type. If your car has CANBUS system, please follow the steps Settings-Factory-8888 ok-Car-Model
8. Firmware upgrade may cause the Carletter APK not to ACTIVATE. Please take a photo of the QR code and send it to us, we will activate it for you.
For the USB issue, could you please try formatting the USB flash drive to see if it can be recognized?
Or try to enter 8888 in factory settings and select USB mode as 1.1.
Please try it and let us know the result.
Many thanks for your effort.
Sincerely
Jerry
I did the update. But nothing has changed

And does personal data such as downloaded apps get removed when updating the firmware?
