CM10/CM11 soon? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, is there any devs that are complining CM10 or CM11 for our Note 3 devices yet? Wondering since the device is so popular that noone yet has managed to get Cyanogenmod on it.. sure it will come soon just wondering if anyone is doing some progress?

I'd love this to happen but it's still a relatively new device.
Be patient

Never ask for ETA's. Been a Cyanogenmod rule since CMod 4.

At this point, I don't even want an ETA - I just want to know IF they plan to release CM for GN3. The wait on this device has been disproportionally longer than others (e.g., the S4), and we've heard zero since the teasers in early October. If they won't support it, fine, but let your dedicated user base know so they can pursue alternatives.

Well, I have at least one piece of good news for you.
Note 3
We’ve also begun the task of bringup on the Galaxy Note 3 – this device is not close to nightly status yet, but we thought some of you may appreciate knowing CM for the device (GSM and CDMA variants) is in process. Please respect the work of the maintainers and not ask for an estimate of availability, it’ll be ready when its ready.

That's from the official cyanogenmod blog which I can not link to because I'm a new user. Post was made 20th of October.

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that. I'm curious what makes this device so much more challenging - can't imagine they really care about tripping the KNOX fuse...

I also think they might release it with CM11 and time it to be released with the full release (I.e. official builds) of CM11, as there wouldn't be much point in startin g on an old version, so close to a new one.

I think noobnl has abandoned his work - utkanos is building CM11, and has remarked that no one is working on 10.

You just have to exercise a little patience. Android 4.4 aka KitKat was just released so the whole CM team have started working on CM11.
Working on CM10.2 right now for the GN3 makes no sense. We all have to wait a bit.

Well some bad news I'm afraid. I believe we will not be seeing CM on the Note 3.
It seems that some people have found it necessary to personally harass the only active developer that was working on the project. The man is rightfully upset about this, as is evident from a comment he left on his G+ page. He does not explicitly state whether he will continue development or not, but it seems evident that it is not a high priority for him anymore.
His remarks about the toxicity of the Android community should be taken seriously. This is precisely what happens as a direct result.
Here's his post:
+Cory Miller and others, I can promise you that none of the devs working on this or any other device for that matter have ever seen a single penny of that money you speak of. You should not comment on things you really don't understand. That money goes towards the servers and bandwidth needed to offer you and everyone else a completely FREE product. Furthermore, donations do not entitle you to a single thing.
I've devoted thousands of volunteer hours towards the +CyanogenMod project because I want to, not because someone is paying me. I wouldn't take it even if it was offered because thats not how I operate. I do it because I believe in open source projects and the community, though my belief in the community is starting to drop off at this point.
Some clarifications. No I am not the maintainer for hlte nor do I want to be after seeing the absolute ****ing childish bull**** the community around this device has put forth, and even if I was, maintainers have NO duty at all to anyone. They are not bound to provide timely updates or anything else, because 100% of the efforts and time and frustration in testing and building come completely out of the free and good will of the person doing it. I picked up this device because the CM team is incredibly busy as of late and people have real world obligations outside of providing you a free product under the constant stream of abuse that the community seems entitled to dish out. The only reason I got involved was to get things moving and because I personally want CM on this phone. I don't owe anyone anything and the fact that its being constantly demanded after numerous polite requests is very telling. I stepped up and did something because I was not happy with the progress, something ANY of you could be doing too. In short, if you want something, do it yourself. I had to learn an incredible amount of stuff to get this thing up and running, but I did it because I want it and no one gave me a handout.
And what do I get for being the only person keeping the torch going for this? A constant stream of private message abuse, G+ flooding my inbox with trite bull**** about how I owe people things and how its long overdue and how it's been months (read it's been two months since this device came out, calm down) etc, etc. This is a brand new SoC on a brand new platform that's barely weeks old with no documentation, it takes TIME. I'm sorry that all the hours of my time and sacrificing my own personal device that I'm devoting towards this for free isn't good enough for everyone and isn't happening fast enough. More so I'm sorry that this topic is now closed because of the actions of a few. This was started as a light hearted and excited post about my own personal accomplishment and something I was happy to share to others waiting for CM for this phone. The Android community has of late been turning more and more toxic and it's something I simply don't want to rush home after working all day to spend additional time on away from my family to cater to an audience that could not care about anything but themselves.

What's the thread you want us to see...?
You just posted the link to the Captivate's General Section, not any thread.
He probably means the "Communicate with Samsung" thread over there. There's a lot of Samsung hate flying around in there.
I hope Samsung really is trying to move in the right direction. Only time will tell how it pans out, though. The best thing we can all do is use the communicate with samsung page to ask as many good serious non-trolling questions as possible to try to impress upon Samsung what we think is important.
Yeah sorry about the wrong link. edited OP
We should all go in there and reassure the Captivate owners that Samsung isn't that bad since we are getting Froyo on Monday.

Oh, well thats just stupid then. You need to wait and see what SamsungJohn brings with "phase 2" and beyond. Then pass judgement. I dont like how he went about what he is doing and I have voiced that fairly well, but to call it a bs PR stunt is probably premature. And what credibility is XDA going to lose even if this is a PR stunt? Developers are going to stop using XDA because they got hoodwinked? Not likely.

I've been curious about the timing of all this. Is Sprint trying to save face because they've been the hold up? Or is Samsung trying to steal Sprint's thunder on xda? Or is it simply a coincidence?

Its a coincidence. 90% of Epic4g owners on Sprint probably dont even know what Froyo is or care if its released at all. There is no reason for Sprint or Samsung to feel pressure now more than any other time to release Froyo.
But they do feel the pressure... XDArs may only be 2% of consumers, but we are the ones that family and friends come to for advice. Our voice carries a lot further than one would think!

Dont jinx it!!!!!! Im pretty sure its happening from what we see... but im not COMPLETELY relaxing until its in our hands.
As far as John, hopefully his phase 2, or whatever the big thing is, is giving the Devs access to stuff no other OEM would do.... THAT would be impressive John... drivers, etc???
Even if there was legitimate software issues that really took this long to resolve, once its out, couldn't they post what they went thru, that could save face if SOMEHOW it actually took this long.... as long as that holdup wasnt anti-root security... that would be pretty silly... anything can be reverse engineered... ask the HDCP consortium....
Free USB>HDMI cables? Free TVs? Discount of SGS2, with the promise of releasing with the cutting edge software, and timely updates after that???
ok... im done... for now

I doubt very highly that they'd offer us free anything, except maybe a kick in the behind. Also, discounts on sgs2 just doesn't seem very likely either. I'm just hoping for transparency regarding source code and MAYBE drivers, but not holding my breath.

I seriously doubt that had anything to do with it. Just taking a logical guess, I'd wager the more likely scenario is that T-Mo's GS phone had less proprietary carrier 'issues' such as TouchWiz on our side to have to work the kinks out & 'play nice' with. I'm relatively newer with Sprint from that angle, but in my AT&T history I know all too well how they like to cater things to how they want them and/or limit them.
Closed thread encouraging flaming and a duplicate of many other threads.

Cyanogenmod 7.1 -- I'm a sad panda

So I bought the Nexus the day it came out to get away from the Epic. My sister and mother though are still using the Epic and I was looking to help them out and load Cyanogen on it since they JUST released 7.1
I can't help but notice that the Epic is the only US SGS phone that isn't supported. The Captivate, Vibrant, Fascinate and International SGS all have it. They really got their hopes up too after seeing it on my Nexus.
I'm sorry for you guys, after having the Epic for almost a year I understand how awesome the community was. I ran MIDnight and ACS 2.1 and 2.2 roms for a while and loved them. I'm really sad to see that there isn't a true AOSP rom yet.
I had been away so long though that I'm not sure where the CM7 development left off on the Epic. Any news on what's holding you guys back?

Given that the OP has 375 posts on XDA to your 2, chances are he/she is not a troll (the jury is very much out on you though). Yes, there are many threads as to why there isn't CM7 for our phones, the point still stands that CM7 is stuck in 1st gear (Alpha build) due to the fact that there is no source code released for Epic due to no official GB. The culprits remain the same: Samsung and Sprint. The devs literally had nothing to work with, so the fact that there is even a working Alpha build is nothing short of a miracle.
CM7 is not stuck in alpha in any way. In fact, it's mostly completed. The current release is labelled as an alpha, but it's coming along very well, and is stable.

Check the Developers section. It tends to have info on development.
Our "Alpha Build" is CM 7.1 the latest to come out. It's a daily driver and we're completely up to date.

True, I did not have it right as it is nearly fully functional and not an alpha build that it was months ago.
From CM7 wiki:
"The current buglist:
Overlay for Video Recording
Video playback for certain encoders
Wimax
Other than those (relatively) minor bugs, this rom is nearing a somewhat completion."
Would love to give CM7 a ride, but will wait a bit longer for hopefully a stable GB modem without random reboots and working WiMax (which I still use on occasion).

A little goodbye to the NS community...

.
I would like to start out by saying thank you to all of the wonderful devs that motivated me to start devving, and to all of the users who kept me going.
I don't want this to be a long goodbye, as most users don't really care. I just figured I should explain my leaving instead of just disappearing.
So, I have almost obtained an Epic 4G Touch, as most ns4g users have started doing. It will be shipped tomorrow, and development for it will start the minute I get it unboxed. My Nexus S 4G will happily sit on the table in my room, prolly collecting dust
I want to continue providing ports and such for the nexus s and nexus s 4g, but development from me will continue to decline and may eventually stop. I have a few unfinished projects that I would like to get somewhat close to working ( sense 4.0, touchwiz ), and hand over to the other devs. I have a few updates to my roms that have been sitting on my laptop for months, which I want to release. I have an update for just about every port I had done. I plan on updating sense 4.0 until it is usable. Other than that, I'm outta here.
I made tons of friends over here, and also made a few enemies..... but in the 5 months I had developed for this phone I had the best experiences ever. Thank you to all the devs that helped me out with my stupid questions (Lithid, fergie) and also thanks to all of the users that kept me motivated when things seemed down... I hope to keep in touch with you guys. If you have my gtalk just hit me up with any questions or even just to chit chat, im a nice guy This community was awesome, I hope to one day see you all on another device, maybe this years nexus?
Anyway, farewell Nexus S.
Duuuuude.... I just flashed that 4.0.4 stock ROM with your tweaks and it's so smooth. Now I hear this..... :'(
Well good luck in your future with the 4g touch
Thank you for your work I wish you would stay Btw that mod makes 4.0.4 so much smoother!

For our sakes (NS owners) I hope it's a joke, I've tried probably all your ports and love seeng what you'll try to port next.
For yours, I hope its not haha. The e4gt is an awesome phone.
Thanks for all the hard work you've done.
And for the flashable zip you made yesterday.

It definitely is the smoothest I've tried, if it had a trebuchet type of launcher like codenames to utilize the join with apps feature it would just be melted butter!
Sorry to see ya leave the ns4g . Your moving to the phone my wife has so guess I'll see ya there . Thanks for all your roms and ports swamp.

Yeah, things are definitely going to be different, the nexus was so easy to mess with, and we always had what we needed for roms and mods... first few weeks on e4gt will be interesting, I am preparing myself for a brick hahaha..
I'll be popping into this forum from time to time for sure, I couldn't just leave.. and I have heard about sbrissen all over the forums, I see his name somewhere on just about every device haha, i'll get in contact

Almost every e4gt dev I have talked to so far has had at least one brick.. I will most likely be joining that group haha. I need to find out every mistake they made, I have never bricked a phone and don't want to find out what its like.
A few days ago, I tried odin'ing a e4gt rom to my nexus out of boredom, with my own custom pit file.. I was expecting some kind of brick with the radio or something, but nothing. This phone is insanely durable. I will miss it
Hope to see those releases sOon ...gonna miss the almost impossible ports...

How come EVERY OTHER GS1 DEVICE gets CM10 nightlies while we don't!? Duh.

EDIT: Yesterday I got dumped seeing all that and can't really control all my temper. After comforts from mods and helpful members around below I'm feeling much better without it. Yes, live on even if E4G is EOL in devs' hand.
Shut this thread if any mods will.
Why are you shouting? Chillax. Yes, the EpicMTD team of CM has to port all the drivers that made CM9 work then plug them into the nightly machine so it incorporates the nightly changes and recompiles for our phone. And yes the Epic team also are working on 5 other devices at the same time. All this while still trying to work, support their family, spend the last few days of summer with their family, prepare for college starting...trivial things like that.

I think he was asking why are they last to always get served . If i were you i would learn to port stuff to your device so you don't have to wait. Idk how hard it is on your phone but on the gs3 it's not hard. I know people have lives and stuff but waiting weeks seem like months so i would YouTube or Google how to port roms.

Epic 4g is always the last because files need to be converted differently from all the rest. Because the keyboard and ICS and JB weren't meant to be on it.

When the Epic was picked up a an "official" device, I thought that mean that the "base drivers" had reached a point where they were "universal" for Android versions.
Do base things like , radio, kb, wifi, modem, etc.. need reworked for EACH version of android.
Is it these files missing from the "base" CM10 files that go to all CM10 phone builds, that need recoded each android version?
Or is there some other aspect I missed. Is it all a kernel issue, with the CM UI being set across all devices?
This Epic post brought to you via Tapatalk 2 and CM9
We had jellybean super soon after it came out... granted, nothing worked, but it booted... now we have an almost fully functioning cm10 kang... what more do you want really... do you just want to flash everyday? If that's the case maybe you should learn to dev yourself and quit trolling this forum with that "development is dead over here"... it has multiple roms, on multiple builds... if your that bored, go dig up some ec05 roms and happy flashing... what made you think development was still gonna be flying on a 2 year old device that wasn't even supposed to get ics?
AndyYan said:
Anyway I was just too disappointed to see this again, when CM9's just out, every GS1 variant except Epic has nightly hosted officially. Epic's was online months later when it's already RC... Then today I checked up get.cm and WTF, even device like SU640 gets a CM10 nightly... And Vibrant, Captivate, GS1 i9000... NOT our E4G again.
ALL BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA KEYBOARD WE HAVE?! OR BECAUSE NOT SO MUCH PEOPLE LIKES LEGACY SPRINT PHONES (jumped to toroplus maybe)?

Dude CHILL the F**K out! How long have you had this phone? If you have had it as long as most of us then you would know we are the last GS variant to get anything CM. It took a long time for 7 but after many months of very hard work from Team EPICMTD that finally went stable 2 weeks before 9 and 9 started MONTHS after 7. Also don't forget this phone is NOT suppose to be running ICS never mind JB so be thankful for what you get and enjoy the fact that Team EPICMTD is well truly EPIC!!!
Just my 2 cents!
Kid, if you don't like the way things are being done, then do them yourself. You can make as many builds as you want. You're always b****ing about what other people aren't doing, how we don't update enough for you. Having development for your device is a privilege not a right, and the lives of the developers always takes priority over their hobbies (Android development).
You are not entitled to anything. We are lucky the CM Team even shares their builds and sources with us.
This is a very pointless thread.

I can't argue with you there. My point is that both language and cultural differences are at play - it is possible that his questions might not seem so *****y if spoken in Chinese, to Chinese people. The same couldn't be said for Looneyrat, for whom we have no doubt that the offense was very much intentional.
Basically I'm saying that there's no harm in giving him another day to try and correct any communication issues. If he still doesn't calm down and change his tune, he'll get the cold shoulder (and ban, possibly) he'll deserve - after this thread derailed into a lengthy discussion about his offensive attitude, he'd be a fool to continue in the same manner, regardless of the cause

Our radio blobs have remained the same since gb. There have been some things our devs needed to do on ics and jb to fix keyboard rotation, lights, and software keyboard. Modem, no, since the cm team has no control over modems (minus nexus modems). Wifi has changed a few times, from epic drivers, to galaxy s, to nexus s. Gpu drivers have changed since we have the nexus s ones to upgrade to, so the cm team upgrades to theirs. Another thing is that some things have changed considerably, like libhwcomposer, and hardware acceleration, so the cm team had to pull from nexus s and make some modifications.

Just close the thread. I've been comforted by all you misters and I know if I want more things to try I'd:
1) Try sth I haven't before (MIUI)
2) Make sth no one has made before (now attempting to port CM7 to N900)
3) Save up for a new phone
and...
4) Just study and after a year when I graduate from senior high the place will be filled with all kinds of neverseen ROMs and unread threads XD
And after all working with English IS painful, you know it.

I'm sorry if what I said was offensive or if I took it too far, but I do encourage you to do something about it if you don't like it. I started "developing" when I was disappointed by the lack of a stable MIUI, so I googled, found some guides, pestered some devs in GTalk and IRC, and I learned to port it and got some stable releases out. I'm always happy to help anyone that is willing to learn. If anyone would like any help on porting or developing, PM me and I would love to assist you.

I just can't believe the support the majority give to the Google monkeys

Ok, maybe i was one of only a little number of people that had major problems with 4.2 and ill almost accept that. I can't get over how many of you passionately stick up for an obviously screwed up update! Is everyone brainwashed? like the apple whackos that think having to upgrade their phone every few months is cool. Face it it sucks! Admit it and stop defending Google.
So your telling me that all the app developers are supposed to change thier apps to work with every whim that the monkeys see fit? Shouldn't Google make these updates with respect that the apps work with their update? There are many apps out there and only a few different versions of Android, so why should all these app developers have to jump through hoops to make thier already good working apps work with every damn android update?
I bought into that belief when I bought my Nexus 7 with jellybean and was like ok this is new technology, I must be patient and they will fix all the apps that are not compatible, guess what there are still a lot that are not compatible and a lot that had to be side loaded to even install. Well seeing the sheep saying again that its the app developers fault that they wont run is complete lunacy. Wake up sheep Google is the problem!

4.2 is a great update.
Also JB itself is a dramatic change.
Apps are designed to work within the OS. When the OS changes, apps need to change. In order to be fresh, Google changes things. Not everyone will like the changes.
If you get mad at change, try a different manufacturer. Maybe Samsung or Toshiba. They do not update as frequently. They are also not what Google considers pure.
You clearly don't like Googles vision, as such, you should not own Googles tablet.

You should sell your N7 and never get another Android device.
I updated to 4.2 prepared for downgrading back to 4.1.2 if I don't like it but it happened that I actually DO like it - a lot.
Not because people like you call me names, but because of the new and enhanced features.
And of course there is bugs - especially with multiuser - as it's a completely new feature and those need ironing out, but they will be ironed out.

No.
It's the dev's own fault when their apps don't work.
Apps developed by following the guidelines and maybe even the best-practises WORK!
Only if you're a sloppy dev and you don't follow the guidelinesy our app may/will break, because it didn't propperly work fromt he very beginning you just got way unnoticed with it.
Best example it using a hardcoded "/sdcard" instead of the global property available pointing to the correct path.
And Google even took account for this - and numerous other - situation, so even you coded sloppy things still work (mostly, but there's limits to that as well).

See above, your argument there is completely null and void.
I'm so miffed that some of the games and programs that I used under Windows 95 don't work under 7. Dammit, an operating system should be fully backwards compatible and it's wholly unreasonable to expect software developers to have to update for the changes.
Seriously, persuasive argument does not seem to be your forte. We all get it... you don't like 4.2. That's your opinion and, for whatever it's worth, that's okay. Others like it or just feel lukewarm about it. Their opinions are no less valid than your own.
Are you so insecure in your opinion that you feel it's actually bolstered by ad hominem? Rather than bolstering it, they significantly cheapen it. That being said,it's ironic that you mentioned fanbois, because rabid tirades discounting others as being "sheep" for having an opinion that differs from your own is textbook behavior.

This troll is bad. He's not even remotely amusing.
Disappointed.

Then wait until people review it. Nobody forced you to update and we definitely do not want you to create these threads complaining about it. Just go back to 4.1.2 and stop complaining

I did read the reviews, and they must have all been done by the Google fan club, because they were all oh its great. This will be my last thread complaining, until their next flop, uh i mean update.

Close this thread, its useless lol I only want people that agree with me to reply from now on! I just wanted to say my feelings on this and I did, I'm done, this thread is going nowhere, I'm out numbered by Google employees lol.
