Request: Stock Messages/Texting App (Verizon Rom) - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to reinstall the stock messaging app, i didn't have a backup (i know my fault). I have lost the "pop up" notification and hoping a reinstall of the factory app will cure it. I'm trying to avoid doing a wipe.
I know i can download a base rom and extract it but was hoping i could just get the app.
Thanks

What?
You %^*& with your /system so you'll have to flash the stock rom if you want the update, whether it's OTA or manual.
There should be a thread on this but you'll have to replace the files that were deleted to get rid of the goggles in order for update to process correctly. Basically you have to flash your phone to the shipped rom. Instructions are here in the forum. I had this done to my phone few hours ago.

Nothing will happen bro, you'll just have to re-install all your apps again since re-installting the stock rom will wipe your device.
What if I just install the goggles app when I get the OTA?
If its going to wipe everything in the update then I shouldn't be worried right?

Did you do that too?

If you used the Google Goggles remover program the OTA won't install. This means you have to flash factory ROM and
will lose all data on your G2 (except for what is backed up)
If you didn't use the Goggles remover then just wait for or install the normal OTA. You don't lose any data and the OTA will fix Goggles.
Hope this helps.

Can I use the cm10.1 message apk on a stock rooted Nexus 4?

I want to keep my Nexus stock but I really like the text message app from cm. Is there a way to use that one instead of the stock message app? I'm assuming I just have to remove the stock app and then replace it with the cm one right?

Yup. Replace and set permissions. Reboot
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Replace it in root explorer.
Yes, just use any file manager with root access and replace it and then give correct permission (rwx-r--r-- I believe)
Also I highly advise you to make a copy of the stock app and place it somewhere in the phone, just in case.
ALSO if you're odexed, this might now work as it also needs odex file and if you are odexed and replaced the app, you might get into the bootloop I think. Never tried it on odexed ROMs, but I think that's what happens

I'm using stock. I'm not sure if stock is odexed. How do I get the app? Do I just unzip a cm update zip?

Did you do flash any ROM? If not, you have odexed ROM. Make sure to make a nandroid backup before doing this as I believe you might get into the bootloop.
You can easily get the app by doing that.

All ive done with the phone is unlock the bootloader and root it. So your saying that I should install a CWM and do a nandroid? Won't installing that wipe my phone?

No. Before you screw with anything in system, make a backup. If you break something, a simple restore will fix it.
The cm message app is system/app/messaging.apk. Extract it from the cm zip and follow the directions above to install it.

You won't go into a boot loop, only thing that will happen is either the Mms.apk won't show up in the launcher or it'll FC. Sometimes, using the newest one from nightlies will cause FC. One has been posted in the apps section that works and has what you're looking for. Its better to use any root explorer app and copy it to /system/apps and fix permissions. And like someone said, make a copy of your original Mms.apk and Mms.odex files to your phone..
Sent from my Nexus 4
If you're just stock rooted, you'll have to go in and re-install the messaging app after every reboot because the stock uses the .odex files to create the mms app, but there is a stock, deodexed, rooted ROM here, and you can just load the CM10.1 MMS into it and it'll work fine. That's what I did
Or you could check out Glowfly on the play store.
It's a pop-up notification app with quick reply support.
Made the same recommendation in a similar thread in the Themes and Apps section. I'm not affiliated with the devs. Just wanted to show support for a good app.
anyone know if this app changes the orienation of your photos from landscape to portrait? This seemed to be a bug on all roms using this apk on my old Galaxy s2.

Deleted phone.apk

Using the clean masters suggested apps that can be uninstalled to speed up the phone it has somehow deleted the phone app does anyone know how to get it back without factory reseting!

Just backup your apps and factory reset. It's the best solution. It will take you 5 minutes.

Well the phone apk is a system file so if its been deleted doing a factor reset won't help. All factory reset does is wipe the data partition where your user apps and settings are stored. Its not like factory reset uses a backup file to restore things.
I assume you are rooted to have done this. You may be able to find the apk from another two rom , extract it, and see if it will install. If not you may have to Odin back to stock to restore it if you want to keep the stock ROM.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.

Unless you knew what specific apk you're looking for I'd Odin back to stock and start over. Good learning lesson

[Q] LG SmartWorld app

Hello,
I'm using the international version of G2 but I got a little problem with the stock app called LG SmartWorld. The first some weeks I was using it from time to time to see if there are new themes and to download them but after updating this app it logged me out and now when I'm trying to use it again it says that is not supported in my country but I used it before in the same country- Bulgaria. Can I do something so it will work again?
Go to apps in setting and press uninstall updates button and if not delete app clear cache and dalvik cache and reinstall app again.
