[Q] Newest Sprint OTA update disabling wifi - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

A few days ago I did an OTA update from Sprint (using stock ROM and bootloader). One thing I noticed big-time about the update was that it wreaked havoc on my wi-fi settings. Wifi was turned off by default, and when I tried to enable it, it would immediately turn itself off without connecting.
This was a really big hassle for me since I was doing this at home, where I have the luxury and speed of my RoadRunner internet connection. But now I was forced to use mobile data to download and update all of my apps (slower and, of course, eats up data that I didn't want to do).
The only solution I was able to find thus far was to revert back to a stock ROM and bootloader, which I obtained from this site. But it took me the better part of Friday night and Saturday morning to get it done, and I was NOT a happy camper when all was said and done.
Good news though... after flashing and re-flashing and re-flashing and re-re-flashing with Odin, I finally got the phone back to where it will connect to the internet and I can download apps, etc. at the faster speeds again.
From what I've heard, this seems to be a Sprint-specific issue. Has anyone else had this problem? And while I'm at it, has anyone else had issues with the latest Sprint OTA update?

Its been mentioned in of the threads.

Bell Galaxy S2 On Telus Network - Network Drops Every 10 Min

Hey everyone,
Had the Galaxy S2 since Saturday, unlocked the device, everything was working great. Out of no where, yesterday the phone still shows the H+ logo and full signal, yet i cannot send, receive text messages, initiate a data connection or make/receive phone calls.
In order to get all that ability back, you either have to 1) reboot the device, or 2) turn airplane mode on then off.
This only works for roughly 10 minutes before it all happens all over again.
I tried swithing to WCDMA only, but issue still persists, even tried some menu codes I found on another thread to disable H+ but the same thing happens.
This is currently happening on the bell shipped rom with no root or anything of the sort.
Has anyone experienced this?
I've searched for hours but can only really find complaints of data connection loss only. In my case it's everything. Data / SMS / Cell
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I feel your pain, even though I have an XEU unlocked GS2, I've updated it with every update from kies hoping the issue would resolve.
Even with the latest KF3 update the issue persisted, however the phone could be used on Rogers with no issues, on Telus data drops constantly.
Disabling fast dormancy didn't do much to help.
However since updating the phone to KG3 2.3.4 yesterday I have not had the issue happen again. For the first time since I got the phone it no longer drops the data connection on Telus.

Thanks for the quick response. Was it only your data that disconnected, or everything else?
Also, may you please link me to the update? I suppose I could use that as a last ditch effort before exchanging the device before its too late.
My issue has changed over the past couple months, originally the phone would report that it dropped the network and when it came back data wouldn't work until airplane off then on or a reboot.
Lately things seemed fine with occasional data drops until yesterday, when it had full signal but I couldn't use data, sms or make a call. It was basically a paper weight until I updated it. The link to the file which has everything you need to update from samfirmware.com is below.

*edit - I'd make sure you have a back-up of your current firmware in case you need to flash back and return the phone.
I have the exact same problem. Bought a bell gs2 unlocked it and now with telus. My data dropped constantly and now I'm using the newest litening rom and now it only drops maybe once or twice a day so a huge improvement

If it's any consolation, I ran my Virgin SIM over the weekend (just to burn up the data I had to buy for a 1 month) and the same thing happened on stock firmware.
In my case, it would put me in "emergency calls only" mode, saying I wasn't authorized for the network (i.e. it wasn't recognizing my SIM). Tried the usual stuff (re-seating SIM, using the Telus SIM, reboots, cache wipes, network WCDMA/GSM selection etc), and nothing fixed it, it just seemed to come back on its own when it was good and damned ready no matter which SIM I used.
Flashed to "Frankenstein" KG3 on Sunday, and neither the Virgin or Telus SIM has lost network since then, in the same areas. WiFi seems to be working better too.

Upgraded 4G Xoom LTE Connectivity Issues

Greetings All,
Got my Xoom back from its 4G upgrade last week and I have been noticing some issues with connecting over the 3G/4G network now. I use pocketcloud to connect to computers over RDP and when connected over WiFi networks, it works fine (computers connected to networks other than one I am connected to WiFi on), but when using the 3G or 4G connection on the Xoom, there is a network connection error. I tried it out on my incredible and it works just fine. Also, sometimes I get an error "cannot update" from the engadget app.
Also, the new market would not install some of my apps, like ThinkFree Office for example, I worked around it by using the web interface of Android Market on my computer and it worked fine.
I sent in the Xoom completely reverted back to stock 3.1, I recieved it with 3.2.2 stock. I cleared memory after I got it back and did a factory data reset. Not rooted, and no other modifications have been made.
I'm at a loss as to why some connections are causing the network to flake out.
Regards.
I read on here that some of the app installation issues were due to the possible change in pixel density that took place with the upgrade but that is something you can change back if you root.
I'm noticing the same exact issue and have no idea what is causing it - let's see if together we can figure it out. It's extremely flaky so far.
I got my upgraded Xoom back today and noticed the exact same issue. It wouldn't activate on the setup screen and prompted me to reboot. After reboot, it connected to 4g just fine and showed the 4g icon below.
I then went into the market to install my apps. It installed Thumbkeyboard just fine but when I went to install others, it stopped at 8.03k on the download. Did this for every app i tried.
I turned on wifi, connected to my AP and the downloads worked just fine. Even tried a couple reboots before doing this and it didnt work.
My 4g signal is about 75% so it's strong.
Very strange...
Power off
Remove SIM.
Put SIM back in
Power on
Done. Worked for me.
I take it back, still having all kind of issues.
just got mine back this morning, and it wont connect to anything! no 3g, no 4g, no wifi... nothing. WTF!?!?! restarted, pulled sim, etc...
going to do restore next and see what that does.
Same connection problems
Got my LTE upgrade back.
When I am at work I cannot update Touchdown from inside the firewall (not sure why) so I flip back to Verizon to refresh by shutting down the wifi. When I do, I noticed that the xoom would drop the connection (three bars) and then not reconnect. When I try to turn on the wifi it stays grayed out and neither system will connect until I reboot.
Went around with VZW tech support, they reported that the unit was registering on their network but not connecting. Sent back to Moto for further testing, got the unit back (they reported it was a software fix, no other data) but the unit continues to have the problem.
Stock 3.2.2 xoom with LTE
Any suggestions appreciated....
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?
Hello, I am still having all kinds of connection issues after I received my device from Motorola. After a reboot the xoom will connect to the Verizon network but If it stays idle for some time, I lose the connection and it will not connect until I reboot the device.
sent it for replacement
I had the same problem. I had to send it back once for 'repair' (no improvement) before Motorola replaced the unit due to an undefined hardware problem. Keep calling or go to a store.
I had something similar when I got my Xoom back. Apparently the geniuses at Verizon never added the SIM to my account. Took multiple calls/emails to get it corrected. Once someone realized it was missing it was corrected in about 10 minutes.

In your case did you have sporadic connection or, without the SIM number, were you completely unable to connect?
BTW, I missed this thread when it was fresh (as I was traveling) but I've had the exact same issues since the LTE upgrade. When it happens, the only way to reconnect is to reboot.
I used to be able to get it to reconnect by switching airplane mode on and off. Sometimes I had to reboot. Friday, even that did not help. I was furious. The next day, the update pushed out to me via wifi. I guess the servers recognized me as a customer again even though I already had a 2 year contract. Some people got the dataplan because they don't use wifi. I love the shortsightedness of the people who come up with this... not.
At least I haven't gotten disconnected since the patch was installed.

I had to unroot my device for 4G to start working normal.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy 3 (just rooted) Data Outages

Greetings XDA members. I purchased my Galaxy S3 from AT&T back in July. Had no issues with data (HPSA+/4GLTE). Recently I rooted phone (no custom firmwares) for tethering purposes. Never tweaked with APN settings. Some reason my phone shows the 4G LTE symbol for connection but randomly when I go to access internet on any app I have no connection. I also dont receive any text messages (SMS or MMS). Only way around it is to send my phone into airplane mode then turn airplane mode off and I can surf fine and all my missed texts pop up all at once. I can be in exact same area and use data then randomly it stops functioning (repeat airplane mode procedure). I did research and some say it could be that sim card in the spring could have unaligned inside the phone. Tried that but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions? Would downloading stock firmware/factory settings fix this issue? Below is details on my phone.
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-i747)
Android 4.0.4
Baseband I747UCLEM
Network APN: default AT&T PDA
I have unlimited data (used roughly 3.7gb) because I've tried the restorting to factory settings and google reinstalled all my apps couple times (forgot to use wifi instead of cell data). I figured maybe that was an issue that I used too much data and AT&T cuts me off. Im not sure if its the tethering app (only used once to test) did something to it. Phone worked fine for a couple weeks then randomly started cutting data out resulting in the airplane mode workaround.
Ok I've rambled enough. Final question: Is there a list that has AT&T Samsung Galaxy 3 SGH-i747 default APN settings so i can varify that mines weren't altered to cause this issue.
Thanks for reading and hopefully issue can be resolved. Thanks.

I just wanted to echo your problem. I have an AT&T S3 I747 and don't recall there being any network issues until I rooted my phone. I have unrooted, gone back to stock, and then even went back to stock ICS from JB and the network issue still seems to be there. I was curious if you found any ideas or fixes, or if anyone else has a fix or solution. I am running rooted stock Jellybean.
Im using my GS3 unroot with jelly bean 4.1.1 and dont seem to have the issue anymore. I went completely stock and I called AT&T to reset my data. Told them the issue I had (didnt mention i previously rooted) and rep reset my APN settings for my phone. I had to turn phone off for a few minutes then turned back on and all seems to work now. It still goes out sometimes but not as often since going from ics to jelly bean. Hope this helps. Dont think ill be rooting again anytime soon. Think problem started after I tried that free tethering/hotspot app for rooted users. This is messed with APN settings and caused problems.

Root by itself won't cause any issues. You used another app, in this case the tethering, which used root and messed up normal data on your phone. You can safely root just be careful what you do after that. Read, read, read.

[Q] Help! Wifi slow with APPs only!

So as of the past few days my apps BARELY move when im on wifi. Facebook, gmail, all ridiculously slow. I did a speedtest and im getting good down and up speeds, 30 down, 5 up. My wife's android (different model) has no issues when on wifi so i cant blame the router. If i use the browser on the phone i have no issues at all, it is strictly with apps. I have no idea what could be causing this. I tried searching and couldn't find a solution any where. Any help would be appreciated. I am currently on version 4.4.2.
Things i have tried: disabling wifi optimization, changing location settings, turning off the radio to just use wifi.
Just strange this happens out of the blue.
Thanks!
Lou
Think back, what have you installed recently? What has been updated through the Play Store or other such service? Go through each entry in settings and verify you haven't inadvertently checked or unchecked something. Turn off all syncing and disable any auto photo, system back up etc uploading. Check in about phone and see if you're up to date on system software. If you are you're probably not getting an OTA.
If nothing else, you can always back up data and such off phone and do a factory reset.

So here is an interesting development. I was away this weekend and was able to jump on another WiFi network connection...problem went away! Came home, still very slow! Why would it be just my phone and not my wife's? Double checked all of my phone setting and they are fine. I have a Comcast all in one modem/router so I'm not sure how to access it. I'm going to call them to find out. When I do get in there what should I check for??

[Q] Anyone got Advanced Calling working on NI2?

Looking for someone who's gotten Advanced Calling (VoLTE) working on their S5 with the NI2 OTA update.
When Verizon first rolled it out last week, I enabled it online in my account. Then checked for OTA udates on my phone. Sure enough it found NI2 and upgraded it directly from NE9. I've rebooted my phone several times and online it still shows up that I have Advanced Calling enabled on my line, but the Advanced Calling settings have not shown up in my Mobile Network settings.
This may or may not be related but originally I had my phone rooted and then upgraded to NE9, which naturally broke the root. Once I was on NE9 I noticed that every time I power up my phone it takes several minutes before the phone turns on the WiFi and Bluetooth and connects to my WiFi network. In the meantime I only have 4G. I used ODIN to flash a clean install of NE9 onto the phone and did a factory reset. Weird WiFi and Bluetooth issue persisted. Now it's OTA'd to NI2 and I still have the weird WiFi/Bluetooth issue and the Advanced Calling settings are nowhere to be seen.
Got my VoLTE working on stock rooted NI2.
Not sure if it would help but maybe Odin NI2 stock tar and start fresh. Not sure what else to suggest really.

I would remove the feature. reboot the phone, give it a few minutes, add the feature back and then reboot.

I'm stock, all is working fine. Since you mention you were previously rooted- you might check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver.../safely-upgrade-root-4-4-4-nha-volte-t2879348
Noticed this morning that the VoLTE settings had shown up, so some time in the last 12 hours things clicked. Pretty sure I've powered up my phone several times in the week since I added Advanced Calling online and upgraded to NI2, so I'm not sure why it took until now for the new features to show up, but it's working now.
If it doesn't show up, go to you My Verizon account online and enable the Advanced Calling feature. Reboot your phone and you're good.
I've been waiting for about 48 hours. Hope it will eventually show up. I've tried removing and adding it back. I've power cycled several times. I'll probably swing by a store by the weekend if it's still not working by then.
