Asphalt 8 problem - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After it got free( I paid for it ), I updated my asphalt 8 to the latest version, and the second time I run the game after the update, I can't press any button in the menu. The game is still working, and the button glows when I press them, but I can't play it, I can't load single player, multiplayer, etc. I can't load anything! I don't ask for a solution(because this is the game developer's job), but I want to know if any of you have the same problem like me on the i9505 version of Galaxy S4, so I can be sure what I am talking about when I will email gameloft about this problem. Thanks !

Same to me. If you turn off your network (wifi and mobile data) it works, but without network. I emailed them, but nobody answered. On their website I sent a post form, but nobody answered. Very poor customer service.
If you clear application datas (some MB and cache), it would work until you quit the game.
Very frustrating problem. I spent a lot of money to this game.

Ok, I found the problem. Adaway kills the host that Asphalt tries to open, and waiting for it. You have to manually add *gameloft* to the Adaway whitelist, and everything will work.

Has anyone figured out how to block the new Google Now search result ads?

1. In the settings Adaway put the check on "Allow redirect and white lists";
2. Disable ad blocking and reboot;
3. Adaway menu by selecting "Journal queries DNS" - run "Tcpdump" and not closing Adaway, run Asphalt 8 to "Tcpdump" continued to work in the background;
4. Run the 8 Asphalt (Tapan reklamku that pops up at the beginning) and then close the game;
5. Open Adaway - menu - "Journal of queries DNS" - "Open Log File" (opens a list of hosts);
6. Long tap on each host and add them ALL to the white list;
7. Include ad blocking, reboot and enjoy the online game in the 8 Asphalt!

Hi, under menu/my lists create a whitelist item: *gameloft*. After this update the host files on the main screen.
That's it!

Wow that was really helpful, I was getting sick of the ads, which was the actual reason of rooting the phone..

What if I am not using S4 nor using adaway or any add blocking software?
Edit: ok I figured... If you dont have it, just download it and then whitelist it... Maybe the custom rom has custom hosts file.

Modded Spotify for Kindle Fire (Works 100%)

So, like most people on this lovely planet, I received a Kindle Fire for Christmas. One of the first things I did with it was install Spotify. However, like most people know, the Fire's software UI controls cover up the Spotify controls, making it sorta useless.
So this morning I decompiled it and made a few quick changes so it would work better.
The only remaining problem is that I couldn't find out how to reposition the view player (the little tab you can drag up that displays the album art, music controls, etc...). So instead of repositioning it, I moved the music controls above the album art. You can bring it up by clicking the (blank) center button. It works 100%, just doesn't look at nice.
Finally, I replaced the icon with an icon I found in the hi-res folder, so the icon looks all nice and spiffy in the carousel. *You might have to restart your Fire before this will take effect if you have all already installed Spotify on your device*
I attached some picture showing what I've done.
Installation instructions for the plebeians:
*On your Kindle*
1. Go to settings > Device and turn "Allow Installation of Applications" on.
2. Download the attached modified .apk
*For some reason it will give an error if you try to install with the default installer on the Kindle Fire, so you can't simply install it from the browser*
4. Download AndroXplorer for free from the Amazon App Store
5. Open AndroXplorer and browse to /sdcard/Download/
6. Tap KFSpotifyAndroid.apk and it will bring up a dialog asking you to install.
Ta Da!
*I lied about being able to install it over your previous spotify app. Make sure to delete any previous Spotify app from your system before installing.*
*This is not a cracked version, simply a small change to the interface, in order to use Spotify on your mobile device you must have a subscription. (Though they do give out trials to new users.)*
And that's that. Enjoy Spotify. Hopefully they're working on a more official version, but this will do until then.
Probably a stupid question, but this is a free app that requires a paid subscription..right?

Thank you so much for sharing. This works perfect on the Kindle!
Thanks for sharing! Are working perfectly
Works perfectly, thank you!
So I tried as you suggested, installing via the androxplorer as well as ES-file-explorer. Neither one allowed the .apk to install!
I'm running a stock kindle, the only change i've made is to use Go-Launcher.

No, only the inteface has changed to accommodate the "bar" at the bottom which blocked the controls on the Spotify app. If you don't have a paid subscription, the app is useless.
Thanks man, works perfectly. I got install errors at first, but all I had to do was uninstall the existing app completely before trying this one.

Missing file
Hi all,
There's no "KFSpotifyAndroid.apk" file available to download. I tried downloading the "SpotifyAndroid.apk" file, which did overwrite my existing install, but this did not fix the issue with Spotify controls.
There's another file in the /SDcard/Download folder: "Spotify-41200180.apk" but generates an error "Parse error - There is a problem parsing the package."
Help?
The file appears to be missing-- is there any way it could be reposted? Thanks for the help!
Thanks

App to *possibly* fix the blank my apps list issue

Hi all,
I have a Bell Atrix and I always have the blank my apps list issue with any Blur based Gingerbread ROMs. I found that removing the Preset app fixed my problem. So I put a small app together to scan the market database to compare the list of market recognised installed apps to the available apps in the market. Users can then remove apps and the market association in the market database.
If possible, can I please have someone to help me test this app? Also, I'd imagine this app should work with any gingerbread running phones with the same problem.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.kstudio.marketfixer
Steps:
1) nandroid backup then start the app
2) Click on Load Market Data (and wait for it to finish)
3) If the app found anything, it will be added to the list
4) Select apps from the list and click on "Del Checked Entry" to delete them
5) Uninstall window will show for the selected apps, click on Uninstall
6) Open the market again, wait a bit and see if the list shows.
Thanks!!
Update1:
I found that Android Market, when starting from scratch (after deleting all the app data), downloads a list of all the apps you have ever associated to your account. If you have ever used TiBu (or the like) to associate apps you shouldn't have associated to the market, and still have the app installed, you will start to have the market problem after wipe.
Update2:
I believe the version 3.5.15 market has made this app obsolete. You can find the download link in the post below
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-google-play-store-apk-3-5-15/
Update3:
Uploaded version 2.0.0, for anyone still wanting to remove market links in the new market.

Worked as stated. Nice to have this feature back. Thank you for your work and sharing.
Glad to hear this is working! cheers!
Ken218, thank you for this app.
After I ran "Load market data," a bunch of apps (meaning way more than I'd like to count) showed in the list, but nothing was checked.
Expected?
If so, how do I identify troublemakers from the list?
This is on a Sprint Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch, running Calkulin's ROM, v2.8.1.
Thank you again.
Holy s***! This works! Thank you!!
There were three apps found, none were checked, so checked them and uninstalled them, market working perfect now! You rock!
Oh and this works on stock ICS 4.0.2 (galaxy nexus gsm) so you can add this to your compatibility list.
Need to sticky this in every device forum.
Thanks again!!
holy sheep **** you are a mad genius this worked for me i have a rooted unlocked motorola photon running rocko rom joker kernel and a fistful of tweaks and my apps are listed again in the market major thanks for this
you will need to manually check every app... I will add a "select all" to the list when I update the app.
Genius........that works perfect on ICS 4.0.3 rooted Iconia 500.
I then reinstall the delete apps.
Thank you so much
I had com.motorola.contacts.preloaded as faulty app. Maybe market acts sensitively when using AT&T-Rom on INT'L Atrix in non-default locale.

On more thing. Is there any way to get the market to stop showing apps from Amazon's AppStore as "Purchased" in the market? There's a few I've gotten from the Free App of the Day that I'd like to purchase on the Android Market but am unable to because it says "Install" instead of "Purchase". When I go to install them it says something like "Cannot install because you haven't purchased it." Thanks again!

That doesn't work. It registers the app as purchased. Same thing happens with cracked apps. If you installed one and upgraded to the latest market, you'll never be able to purchase the app again off the android market.

There is a workaround, but it involves some messing around:
1) Uninstall targetted app
2) Freeze market auto-upater
3) Downgrade your market to 2.2.6, run market
4) search for chosen app (Don't go to my apps, that doesn't seem to work anymore)
5) buy app
6) restore new market...
7) ???????
8) Profit!
Ken you should add some cache feature.
I've deleted apps one by one to find the trobulemaker, but after every uninstall I've had to rescan again - with <10 apps it doesn't take too much time, but if search results can be stored within MarketFixer it'd speed up the whole process
EDIT: Thank You very much, market fixed (at least for a while )

There are a lot of things in my list which are part of my ROM (Keis Air, for example).
There are also many Android Market apps for which a Market Search turns up no hits (Super Froggy and Twidroyd Pro). I guess these apps have been retired....?
At any rate there are probably 4 dozen things in my scanned list, and I'm nervous about whacking them. Any advice, sir?

I'd assume you used TiBu to fix market link? Because components formed part of the ROM (Certificate Installer, Cell broadcast, etc) won't be attached to the market.
I'd say wipe the market and let it rebuild its database first (by starting the market app and let it sync/download all the things automatically).
Like you said, it is possible that some of the apps you have are retired. Also, during my tests, I found some apps where the developer decided to change the package name (xe currency) so the market became broken (doesn't cause the blank market problem though).
In the case of Atrix (and possibly other motorola devices), removing "Preset" is all its needed to fix the market.

No adblock for Samsung Internet

As I understand it, with Marshmellow Samsung allowed the use of add-ons with their browser. I have downloaded apps for adblock made specifically for Samsung Internet. Supposedly I am supposed to be able to enable these from the advanced settings in the browser but the option is not there. I have seen screenshots of others' phones and don't understand why it isn't there on mine. I have included a screenshot of my "advanced settings" menu. If someone could clear this up, I would be really grateful. I was really looking forward to this feature.
Root Or not use this https://adblockplus.org/en/android-install
make show you Do not install the BROWSER Version. click the small text at the bottom of the paragraph "Download Adblock Plus for Android" to download the Proxy version. the run runs on your phone and loops back to your phone so your data is not going through some one else server like other proxys
This block add globally on your phone for all apps on wifi. This would be the next best thing to a rooted modified host file
Here are instructions https://adblockplus.org/en/android-config#proxy If you have any questions Just ask.

When I installed AdBlock+ for Samsung internet browser I had to open the adblock app which then told me to go to the browser settings & there was then a block content options that wasn't there before, tapped on that to activate adblock+
I ended up removing it as it was giving a message saying content blocking not working & to get in touch with the developer. I then tried out AdGuard & ended up getting a lifetime licence for that.
When I used the adblock+ app a couple of years ago on a Sony Z2 it just seemed to cause a lot of browser crashes so as soon as I rooted I then used AdAway.
I use adblock fast. Does that run thru another server?

@jc83 No, it looks like i jst loops back to the phone also. I just check out the app and it looks really good. But according to Manikant Mittal's comment on the play store "u need to have internet 4.0 for this app to work"
this makes me think it will only work in the Browser called internet and that browser only. Adblock plus may be a little slower but it blocks add wile on wifi for Everything coming through your wifi connecting meaning it will block adds in all browsers and even apps.
if adblock fast would do the same then I would defiantly switch to that one instead.. I like how it is also open source too. I have downloaded it to my rooted and my non rooted phone encase it gets pulled form the play store. Ill take another look at it some more in a little bit and see if i am wrong and if it can do it system wide like adblock plus.
I have just messaged adblockfast on Facebook and twitter asking if they can add this feature. and if it not allowed that way in the play store if they could then host that version on their site instead.

There was a update in play store for Samsung browser the past couple of days & in the changelog it did mention content blocking. See if you get the update from play store then run adblock+ for samsung browser & then manually open samsung browser & go to advanced settings & there should hopefully be the block content option. Turn that on & tap adblock+ & that will activate adblocking in the browser.

AdBlock Plus works perfect for me with Samsung Internet browser. But the problem with that browser is that it eats a lot of battery, Firefox does the same, I ended up with Dolphin Browser + Dolphin JetPack + AdBlock for Dolphin Browser and it works pretty well with much less battery drain. I have to say that the Samsung Internet browser is the fastest, though.

After the "Block Content" option also not appearing in my Advanced settings in the Samsung browser even after sideloading the latest version (4.0.10-51) I have finally figured out how to get it to appear. With the latest version installed I went to Application manager --> Internet --> Storage and simply selected "Clear Data" after force stopping the program. I guess it was a caching/preference issue that prevented the Block Content option from showing up but after resetting all data it now appears!

Google eating through Sewage tank called Android System WebView. help..

Hello scholar buddies,
Yes google is eating through sewage. The Android System Webview app keeps running even when I have disabled it. It shows in the disabled apps' list, it shows disabled, but the force stop button is active time to time when I check. Yes it still runs back secretly even when disabled. This is a new sewage trick by google. Obviously for phone home stealing. How hungry one can be?
Non rooted xperia. Android 5.1.
What should I do? Any solutions?
Thanks.
Either root and delete it, or stop using that distinct browser.
Also, its not for any kind of theft. It allows your browser to display web functions which would not normally be shown due to programming limitations.

Hello buddy,
Havent rooted the phone yet, because I am waiting for a final update that will feel wholesome. Then I will root.
I have dissabled the Chrome and stock web browser, along with the Android System Webview. Isnt it suppose to keep itself dead when you have disabled it? But it wakes inside the Coffin, isnt it suspected to be definately programmed for some hidden purpose?
How did you disable apps without root?
What does 'pm list packages -d' show?

You can still disable apps through settings even without root, right? I have that option on my Nexus 6 before I rooted.

Possibly; but l guess it's ROM dependant a: if there is a disable button in app settings and b: what said button actually does.
Checking the disabled apps with the pm command listed should at least show if it's been disable via the package manager.

Yes, almost half of the system apps have 'disable' option activated without root. When apps are disabled they are totally non existant. Other apps depending upon them, either crash, or ask to install the particular needed app. No other(non-douchebag) app will pull out any disabled app. After the number one douchebag app 'Google Play services', 'Android System WebView' seems to be the douchescum sidekick.
I disabled many. All the apps obay the disabledness, except Android System WebView. It shows disabled, but poops out from time to time. After a while or the other when I check the app info, there you see the 'force stop' button is active again.

It still could be that the app isn't fully disabled; perhaps the 'disable' just turns of as much services/activities as possible.
Have you checked the pm command? (You can run that in terminal without root...)
U really need to have some clear idea about webview.

DON'T TOUCH IT! DONT DISABLE IT !
Let me explain why?
The WebView is the system organ that manages the application that run internet (except chrome or Firefox )it allows the app to connect with Internet.
So find the application that is culprit try : Gsam

Terminal emulator and enter pm list packages -d to see what package manager sees as being disabled.

Its a Myth.
I already DISABLED it. And all the apps run and connect fine without it.
the purpose of the app is to render webpages for apps that don't have a built-in browser. An example would be google login page, which is web based (likely for security reasons) for when you want to allow an app access to your google account. It doesn't even have its own internet permission. Nor does it have any other hidden abilities. Think of it as an HTML Viewer for modern internet implementations. Definitely not a phone home app and definitely not as douchebaggey as the rest of googles apps. here is screenshots of the apps components http://imgur.com/a/CzW8r

Thank you for the report )
Good wishes for you.
But there is still the question-
Why does it run anyway, even if disabled? Why this bullysh act? If I am disabling important service (according to google bots ) , then stay disabled and give me errors in the system. Why run back?
I know I am going to nail it with root, but still raising the question.
Sounds an awful lot like you are being unreasonably paranoid in a slightly uneducated fashion frankly. I have it disabled on my non-rooted phone and it would take more than a Force Stop button being non-grayed out to worry me. Rather than jumping to conclusions and displaying hysteria symptoms why don't you actually confirm that is or is not running in the running processes.
Logic. It works.

Change Amazon Fire TV's Default Launcher (NO ROOT)!

Hello everyone!
In the Amazon Fire tablet community a member (BaronKiko) made a program called Launcher Hijack. It works really good on the Amazon Fire TVs. If you do not like ads and bloatware, it hides them pretty well. I installed a TVLauncher3.1.0 apk and Launcher Hijack v3 and it does the job!

Very interesting for those friends that won't/can't root. Do you know if v3 sees AppStarter/FireStarter as a Launcher or only as an app ?
---------- Post added at 06:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 AM ----------
Well just tried it on a non-rooted FTVS1 & the single Home press worked great with AppStarter. Now Launcher Hijack v3 & AppStarter did take a long time to start from a device manual restart. And it did not go into AppStarter by itself at bootup (had to press Home). But once I had let enough time pass. After hitting Home AppStarter started to load from that device restart. But there was no way to tell when it was ready (when LHv3 had started).
Very good non-rooted option. Only minor tweaks left to make it great.

The default launcher does not show up. Other apps installed that are launcher-eligible will pop up as options. It works good and is basically an adblocker.
As soon as it is on, I just hit the hone button. It works 1/10 times, if you see fire launcher just press home again. It is very lightweight and doesn't take much time at all for me.
Works well when it detects a launcher app (TVlauncher and Unwind launcher, does not detect HAL). TVlauncher works best but I need to exit it everytime I need to watch something through Prime Video. Other launchers dont work well (Unwind does not show half of the apps that I've got installed). Will have to wait for root if that ever comes in order to get Leanback launcher.
The default launcher does show up if you uncheck hide system apps in the settings .
This app takes about 15 seconds after fully booted to kick in and that's fine by me. Thank you very much.

Yeah, the only thing I might request the author is to add an option for auto-Home press when it is activated or specially when it boots up when a device is turned on or restarted. Since other then waiting 10-15 seconds after restart/activated there is no way to know when it is fully on. There should also be a way to a way to control the double/long home presses. But this is a SOLID App as is.
Tested choosing non launchers (Kodi, Downloader, etc.) & that never worked. So I am not sure what is the purpose of letting you see the other non Launcher Apps if they can't be used. I did installed the SPMC Launcher APK & that worked perfectly. You can get the latest SPMC Launcher option from:
http://spmc.semperpax.com
Just go into the "More downloads at: link " & choose the launcher version for your device.
Most of us (FTV1, FTVS1 & FTVS2) need the ARM v7a (32bit) & only the FTV2 & FTV-TV need the ARCH64 Launcher versions.
can i find a way to make it work with halauncher?? any ideas to make it work with this??
Just published a new release with full support for Fire TV's: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fir...ck-v4-t3877467
This post still redirects 10+ people over every week so thought it was worth mentioning.

Bit late to respond but It should also work with any app now, the non-launcher option was there before because some launchers don't get filtered correctly when they work just fine.
Also it does perform a home press at boot. Always has done if you enable the accessibility service. Thinking about it on the version you have been using that's probably not the best idea but now it should all be good.
