Which means, it could be the end of the month. So we'll have people whining on Dec. 2nd about "where is it". They also stated again about phased rollouts.
So we'll have people posting on Dec. 31st how they'll "never buy sony again" because their device has not yet updated. That'll be good times again!

This is a GOOD NEWS!!!
At least SONY is confirming that we have an upcoming updates... waiting patiently here,,,

If you believe Sony will update our tablet in a timely manner I have just one word for you, and that word is lol

I am just in the process of looking for a new tab. The Z is on my short list. It would be my first Sony. Strictly Asus until now. However, I noticed that the blog post specifically mentions handsets for the update? For those of you that are long term Sony owners, when you see a quote like the one above does that usually include the tablet version as well?
Update: Sorry, found a much more complete answer on their blog and YES it is absolutely confirmed.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/11/0...d&utm_campaign=Feed:+XperiaBlog+(Xperia+Blog)
Makes my decision a no brainer. Tab Z it is - ordering today.
Update again: And straight from Sony: http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2013/11/07/on-jelly-bean-4-3-kit-kat-4-4/

for all the haters here and does not know the word patient, you better sell your sony Xperia and buy a Nexus device for faster updates. or better buy an ios for a monthly update.hehehe lol..peace mates...
we should be thankful their confirming those future updates... be cool guys...

Update for Canada Today (Aug 8th)?

SonyEricssonCA posted the following on Twitter about 15 hours ago...
"Free software upgrade for the Xperia X10. Get more details here: http://bit.ly/b9HT0A"
But I can't see anything from that link, SEUS, OTA or PC Companion. Anyone else seeing anything?
its probably the update to 026....as usual, Canada always seems to be in back burner for these folks when rolling out updates.
I checked last night after reading that twitter post both OTA and SEUS, no update available. Still running on R2BA020! I assume that post was to remind newer X10 customers they should update that horrible 014 firmware.
*also today is August 6th not the 8th man
Posted a few minutes ago:

Yesterday’s tweet about the software upgrade was just a reminder for those who haven’t yet updated.
Was the update from the future? In the future I have 2.2 on my x10 and no Rogers. dare to dream.
Darn. Got excited for nothing.
Dammit
Who knows, maybe Rogers will release 2.1 before anyone else does
Doesn't hurt to dream....
You just wait... "The 2.1 update for Canada has been pushed back to Q4 of 2012"
The SE CEO's will be sitting in a room going "Who else do we have left to push 2.1 to? Canada? Those guys are still around? Do they get internet in their igloos?"
till 2012!?!?!? god damm!!!
LOL all.
That's why I rooted. Tired of waiting for Rogers to push out their updates weeks after everyone else.
BTW: R2BA026 is wonderful!
If you want a picture with 2.1 set to be release oct and above in a japanese presentation i can upload it. I am sick of people expect 2.1 tomorrow because they didn't do the researches.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
sure, upload it
How is this build wonderful? What makes it good? I cannot see any difference between this and the one before. Am i missing something?
Has it improved the batter life? Has it dealt with the low volume on the earpiece?
With the Galaxy S listing for $499.99 CDN, Rogers had better get on SE for the real update, or expect a price cut on the X10.
As much as I dislike the Galaxy S' exterior design, the specs (and OS) are killer.

I'm curious. How recently did the presentation take place? The original plan was for 2.1 in Q4 but it was pushed ahead to Q3 in June/July. Is there a chance the presentation happened before or after the changed schedule?
Edit: Yep, September "onwards" for the civilized world and late Q3-early Q4 onwards for the US. Damn those progressive rollouts, always confusing stuff.
Lots of rumours flying around that the X10 is about to land on AT&T in the US...I can't imagine them actually launching this premium phone with 1.6 in the US especially after all the recent updates to 2.2 for all the highend Android devices (less the Galaxy line). SE would have to be out of their minds to pull a stunt like that. Here's hoping they aren't THAT incompetent and just finalizing a 2.1 release ready for the launch of the X10 on AT&T in the coming weeks.
I want my update now... I can't believe I am still using android 1.6!!!
No one has actually answered my questions. Whats so special about this new software update? I dont see any difference at all. Its still 1.6. No improvement on battery life and no real update worth all this hype.
What is it really?

faster performance?
Having recently come from the Nexus One & Froyo I must say over all I'm liking the X10 a lot better. Sure it's 1.6 but I think it's fine compared to 2.2 which I found to be overall not that great. The grass is always greener on the other side I guess, but having come from the other side IMO the X10 isn't missing much.

Gingerbread? Already?

androidcodex.com/gingerbread-is-coming.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=gingerbread-is-coming
well, it was always destined to come out before the end of the year, whether the article is correct about the October date is anyones guess.
People have already learned their lesson with how long it took Froyo to come out...
I wouldn't expect Gingerbread any earlier than December with the time Google needs to keep updating it before eventually releasing it.

Don't forget, Google did say that after Froyo they would begin a 6month till next update period, where updates wouldn't come out for 6 months. I figure June (when froyo was released) is 6 months from December so technically it still fits googles model.

The article repeats rumors knocked down by Dan Morrill
Re release date:
When will other Google products support WebM and VP8?
WebM support in Android is expected in the Gingerbread release (currently planned for Q4, 2010). We expect many other Google products to adopt WebM and VP8 as they prioritize it with their other product requirements. Keep an eye on the WebM blog for announcements.

Well we might start seeing Gingerbread in October, but probably officially rolls out in December. Sounds about right.
Funny how the article lists phones which meet the requirements but neglect to include Google's Flagship Nexus One.
Currently there are only a handful of devices with these types of specifications, among them the Samsung Galaxy S and the HTC Desire.

We won't see Gingerbread before December. I seriously doubt we'll see it this year. Likely January-February time frame.

Today is September 23, no Froyo for Samsung galaxy s?

Samsung promised that today should upgrade SGS to Froyo, but nothing??
ROFLMAO!!
Nobody promised anything
No. Not today.
It's better that way instead of another crappy firmware and this time official. They will go to hell if they do that
Samsung just announced that there will be no froyo for galaxy s. Are you happy now
Hi vlad,
As reported in several other topics, September 23 was less than a rumour, Samsung never said officially that this was "Froyo day".
AFAIK what we know by now is that T-Mobile branded SGS should be upgrade before the end of the month (which could mean even on 09/30), and it looks like that no brand SGS won't be upgraded before mid october.
Again, what we are talking about are just rumours, there's no official date from sammy.
Still I'd rather wait few days more and get a decent firmware.
edit: please try to make a search next time, before posting.
totally useless to open a topic about something that not happened,

I do not know. No. Yes.
Lets just wait for it when it comes. Lets not speculate. Let Samsung build a decent firmware with all the important fix especially to enable JIT. I am happy with JPH for now.
not in the development child forum! dewdoodude.
The only official statements from Samsung (in facebook) is End of September for UK, End of October for Spain, India,... T-Mobile also stated End of September for their clients...
Saw some statements from users that contacted their operator and in some cases it will be available this week....
Definitelly it will not be released Worldwide at the same time. Patience.

+1 Agree. I'm Still with the official JM2 and I'm not in a hurry to get Froyo unless it fixes the pending issues.
(I hope this is not the same as Micro$oft and it's Windows Vista. )
The morale of the story is to be happy with what you have (eclair) and don't wait for froyo.
Otherwise buy some other phone which already has froyo.
Keep waiting... Maybe we will get froyo during christmas. Presents from Samsung.

Haha Verry funny, maybe 2012 when at the end of the world
Quoted from Samsung Mobile Singapore Facebook:
Hi Muhd, our local R&D team have not passed the Froyo software as yet. We are trying to rush HQ to send us the new software for testing. Realistically, we would expect some delay with this week being the Korean Thanksgiving holiday week. We will keep everyone posted on the timeline as soon as we get confirmation.
Hi Weijian, we would love to but these are all controlled by our HQ in Korea. This week being Korean Thanksgiving holiday week does not help. The current Froyo software being tested locally is not satisfactory so there is a good chance the official release to end consumer will be in Oct.
The Koreans are in holiday. Not froyo day apparently.

Google announced at I/O that a bunch of partners have agreed to update all devices that are capable to the latest Android version within 18 months! And also ICS is going to be released Q4 this year...
My thought is that Motorola has been waiting on ICS hopefully rather than GB, though either way we'll have ICS before the pseudo-apocalypse!
EDIT: Article has a typo, actual statement was that updates will be guaranteed for all new and capable devices for 18 months.
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/android-momentum-mobile-and-more-at.html
18 months.. that's more than a year and a half.. lol by that time i'd have a phone that has the latest version :|. possibly an unlocked bootloader as well lol
We've at least been told by Moto that we'll get Gingerbread and an unlocked bootloader this year, and I believe that is still a reasonable claim
Yeah, 18 months to upgrade this thing to 2.3? If they would unlock the phone and release the code it would be done in a few days by the dev community.

The key here is "within 18 months"! I believe this offers nothing, as most of us will have moved on to new devices before we have had them for 18 months after release. Now, if they said within 6 months, then we would know that whenever we bought a new device the most we would have to wait for the latest update would be 6 months.
"Good news for Android users waiting for updates: this kind of long wait and anticipation game may finally be over. Google’s announced at I/O 2011 that a plethora of partners (seen above) will be giving the latest Android updates to all devices in the future within eighteen months. The only catch is that updates will be received only “if the device can handle it.”
Sounds like good news for developers worrying about fragmentation. But, users will also be able to reap the benefits as carriers and manufacturers are more forcefully pushed towards updates."

not really..
The article is wrong and misquoted the announcement. If you watched the keynote you'd have seen what they really said.
"So today we’re announcing that a founding team of industry leaders, including many from the Open Handset Alliance, are working together to adopt guidelines for how quickly devices are updated after a new platform release, and also for how long they will continue to be updated. The founding partners are Verizon, HTC, Samsung, Sprint, Sony Ericsson, LG, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Motorola and AT&T, and we welcome others to join us. To start, we're jointly announcing that new devices from participating partners will receive the latest Android platform upgrades for 18 months after the device is first released, as long as the hardware allows...and that's just the beginning. Stay tuned for more details."

It's not updating to latest within 18 months...
Its updating to lastest version quickly.. FOR the first 18 months.. so you might get multi updatas in that 18 months.. but arnt promised anything after the phone has been out for 18 months... all in all pretty good news for us though... att and Motorola are partners with google on it.
I'll be happy when I finally get at least ONE "Official update" from Bell. (and more importantly a stock SBF to fall back on already!)

It makes a lot of sense. 18 months is getting close to the life of a phone. So they keep you updated, then make you buy a new one when you can renew your contract.
I guess it works out well for both parties? We get updates frequently for most of the life of our phones, but they still get their upgrades.
Thanks bwshockley for clearing that up!
Heck, they announced. "Ice cream" for Q4 2011.. Atrix may even get that!
Can't wait till they let us know what timely/quickly means though.. but its going in the right direction.. google doing something at least to get them to update quicker.
It also say NEW devices will be supported, that would mean the Atrix would not actually fall under the new guidelines i.e. there would be no guarantee that it'll get Ice Cream Sandwich. Gingerbread is guaranteed only because they specifically stated it a while back, but when is completely up to Moto.
Yea I see. Silly misinterpretation. That's what I get for taking a bagel break away from the live stream!
However, I still believe that we'll get GB and perhaps even ICS by the end of this year. And if not, the bootloader will hopefully be unlocked so we won't have to worry about it.
Yeah I don't see them waiting for ICS to do a version upgrade, by then, a fair amount of people will have looked at other devices.
1/5 stars for misinformation. Please update op to say this is speculation.

Actually upgrades work in our favor since they dont make crap on the phone. They only make money on the data service which is outrageously priced.
Rule of thumb.

HTC has only pushed 4.2 to the One, a 2013 flagship, and the S4, Samsung's latest 2013 flagship also has 4.2 so they actually aren't behind in any way. AFAIK the same goes for Sony.

Agreed. HTC's 2013 "flagship" and savior device shipped with 4.1 and is still in the process of getting 4.2. There are more Google-caused issues in 4.2 than there are in 4.1 so it’s great it has new features everyone wants but the same people *****ing about not having it will be the first to ***** if battery life is less, BT is borked, or if anything is inferior to 4.1. And if Samsung released a rushed and buggy N2 4.2 update those same people would be up in arms. 4.1>4.2 isn't a major update and 4.1 isn't broken.

Did you read the article? It looks like it was written by a kid.
The upcoming Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for both Samsung Galaxy S3 & Galaxy Note 2 is reported to be delayed again and scheduled not earlier than November 2013. Factors such as the Galaxy S4 sales, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and K Build release date affected the update release date. There's no source for the information other than "is reported." And does anyone here think Samsung, a company with a $12B R&D budget, is so single threaded or low on resources that something like soft SGS4 sales or doing multiple updates across different devices at the same time is going to tax them? The SGS4's been on the market for four months and punishing the SGS3 or N2 by stalling their update to 4.2 isn't going to help or hurt its sales. Outside XDA people don’t even know what version of Android their running. At most, they know they know “Jelly Bean” is the latest and 4.1 is JB. HTC didn't think launching their new flagship on 4.1 was going to hurt sales and it took them four months to bring it up to 4.2. And since Samsung never officially said when existing 4.1 devices would be brought up to 4.2 there isn't a delay. Something that's never been announced can't be delayed.
And as for the Note 8 getting it first, that makes total sense. It uses a phone vs. tablet UI similar to the N2 but sells in probably 1/10 the volume. If something's broken or needs trouble shooting in customer’s hands it's better to test it on a smaller audience. 4.2 hasn't been used with S Pen, S Note, or an inductive display before and doing so adds a lot of extra code. I'm fine with Note 8 users being the Guinea pigs because my N2 runs perfectly on 4.1.
But do continue to rant and run this thread up to dozens of pages like the other update threads. I'm sure it'll make the update come faster.
Owners of S3 and Note 2 can surely expect the Android 4.2.2 update, but it requires some patience as the maker struggles with Galaxy S4 sales and new Android versions.

And where would that be? HTC? One S owners would disagree the grass is greener. Motorola? Those that bought phones in late-2011 with the promise (in writing) from Motorola they'd receive it and then didn't don't think their grass is any greener. LG and Sony perhaps? There track records are worse than Samsung's.
Want instant updates? Buy a Nexus. Even the GE versions of the One and SGS4 are dependent on HTC and Samsung so won't get updates as fast as a Nexus. Buying a phone with an overlay (which everyone here did) means you wait for updates. If people didn't know that upfront it's their own fault.
And again, whining amongst yourselves here in three different threads on the same subject isn't going to make an update come any faster.

Ha ha you're right. I was spoiled when I had my S3 six months ago. They were updating almost every weeks then. Now I have to actually WAIT for an update. I feel like an iphone user.:crying:

Hey, everyone here has a right to their opinion and feelings about updates. I mostly stay out of update threads. I pop up occasionally becaue people new to XDA or trying to see if a certain phone's worthwhile could get the wrong impression when people go off on Samsung about updates. In my opinion they're no worse than others and over this past year seem to be pushing more general updates out then they have been. But in truth they all pretty much suck and updates clearly aren't a priority. I'd expect starting with the X-Phone, now that Motorla's owned by Google, Motorola should probably lead the pack. We'll have to wait and see.
Maybe someone could explain to me if Samsung sucks so much w/ updates, which mythical company we're talking about that has started rolling out 4.2.2 for it's 2012 flagship? FFS One's just getting 4.2.2 and that came out with S4.
And once 4.2.2 is out more whining threads will be out re: battery life and downgrading to 4.1.2. I'm good with 4.1.2 custom ROMs, what exactly are people missing out on 4.2.2? Lockscreen widgets? Really? Is it worth all this persistent whining?

Shhh. They're all mostly 16yo and this is a big thing for them. Don't try to understand why.
Back when my S3 was on ICS and we were waiting for JB, I asked all the complainers what feature they were missing. One bloke said he was losing business because he didn't have Google Now! (He was serious too)
In a world where flashing a new ROM every second day makes sense, you HAVE to have the latest version of stuff. You just do. The End.
Oh yeah another bastard thread about people moaning because we don't have 4.2.2
Yes im going to shout
WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY DROP THIS UPDATE BEFORE THE NOTE 3 IS RELEASED AND NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THE NOTE 3 WILL BE RUNNING.
Get it in your heads shut up and wait and stop clogging this forum up with crap every time a phone gets an update. Ffs

bad news indeed, but i'm good on 4.1.2
When (not if) we get the 4.2 update, I suggest eager fans divide it in half to get two updates --> 4.2 / 2 = 2.1
With those two 2.1 updates, use one right away, then save the second for when u feel the need for additional updates later.
Hit thanks if this sounds like a viable option
