[Q] Samsung Galaxy Express GT-I8730 [ROOT]: Force SMSC for stock messaging app? - Samsung Galaxy Express GT-I8730 Questions & Answer

(I hope this is the right place to post this.)
I have an Samsung Galaxy Express GT-I8730, unlocked, rooted, Android 4.1.2 and, after moving internationally and inserting a new SIM card, have been hit by the bug/feature as discussed in the threads [1][2], that is I cannot set the new carriers SMS centre for the stock app in its settings menu, the sending of SMS fails with the message "sending failed, review message and retry".

As entering the telephone service menu with *#*#4636#*#* does not work, I was left with having to install Go SMS and set there a custom SMSC, which enables Go SMS to successfully send, however the stock messaging app does not recognize that setting. I find Go SMS annoying and want to force set the SMSC number for the stock app without having to enter the service menu. My phone is rooted.
Question: Is there a way to forcibly set the SMSC number (possibly PDU encoded) without going through any menus, or is there a way to access the service menu even if I cannot access it using the special code above?
Thanks in advance.

G1 on ATT network - SMS not sent (SOLVED)

I purchased a G1 from craigslist. Turned out it was an ADP device. I updated the recovery image, updated to Haykuro SPL, and Cyanogen ROM.
Everything worked except that SMS messages would not send... (I didn't try MMS messages).
I checked and double checked everything. ON another forum I found advice to acquire access to some Phone Info settings using "ANYCUT" - a free app.
Create a shortcut to your desktop using ANYCUT: Shortcuts>Activity>Phone info.
The above suggestion stated to use the above shortcut to turn off - then, back on - the phone's radio. That did not work for me. Also, in that shortcut was a space for a SMSC - whatever that was.
I called ATT and spoke to a knowledgeable associate who asked if my SMSC had been set and what was my number. I remembered seeing the SMSC setting in the above shortcut. I was provided with the ATT SMSC number for an HTC device for my area as "+13123149810" I used the above shortcut to enter the number and selected "update"
This solved my problem.
If you have similar problem I would suggest attempting the above. Call your provider and ask for the correct SMSC and enter it in using the above method.
I observed several posts on various forums where persons where told to go get a new sim card. I don't know if that would work or not. But, it was not necessary in my case.
Thank you for the post!
This worked for me.
My ulocked G1 was working fine with Cyanogen 4.0.4. I upgraded to 4.2.1 and lost my ability to send and receive SMS messages.
I followed your instructions, but for some reason I lost my 3g when I opened the Phone Info via the AnyCut link. I changed to GSM only and got Edge, at least. Guess I need to play with it more.
Anyway, I'm on the STC aljawal network here in Saudi Arabia. (Jawalnet) using an unlocked G1 and sending and receiving SMS messages again. Yay!
If there happens to be anyone else having SMS issues, the number on the STC website is +966505031999
I think this is the SMSC number, because when I put it in the SMSC box on the Phone Info I was able to send SMS messages again.

[Q] Big Ask===Need S4 "data menu settings"

I have a Sprint L720 Galaxy S4 that I am currently using with Metro PCS/T-Mobile. I have the correct APN settings, I can make and receive calls just fine. I can send texts and MMS just fine and receive texts as well. I can not receive MMS messages or texts with picture attachments.
I looked in the ##DATA# menu or ##3282# menu as I have my MSL number. If anybody here has used the L720 with T-Mobile/MetroPCS can you please give me your working settings from the data menu?
I looked through the entire data menu and it is filled with Sprint.com this and sprint/mms/server that etc. I tried changing the most obvious things to T-Mobile's settings, but I know I am missing the crucial settings to allow me to send and receive texts with photo attachments. I tried the METROPCS fix here in the forums for the L720, but the files give errors when installing. I am certain that manually entering the settings from someone else's phone will work. There are a lot of settings in the ##DATA# menu, but it would take maybe five minutes to copy them down.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me their working info. T-Mobile said they simply do not have time to look those up as the data menu is too specific. The phones in the stores are not rooted not do they have the dialer app installed to get me to the data menu.
Thank you very much.

Some weirdness with t-mobile service on 900v

I'm running the ok3 no bs rom, and I have root. I figured out my apn settings so sms and mms are working on my T-Mobile sim.I still have a couple of issues though.
1. How do I unlock band 4? I've seen a thread about it that says I need to activate a hidden service menu to do this. I followed the directions in that thread with no success. (E.g. change /efs/carrier/hiddenmenu from OFF to ON and reboot) every service menu code actually dials a number and gets me a recording saying it's not valid.
2. I've also run into a few problems with my touch tones not being recognized during calls. When I press the button I see the number in the dialer but the remote system does not recognize the key press. I've been looking for any kind of setting for this but have come up empty handed.

GS 7E T-Mobile (G935T) unable to change message center number and not able to sms

Hi, I'm using a G935T which is already unlocked, and I have no problem using it in Singapore with local network. However, the sms center number is incorrect and the phone prohibits me change it. I can find it in sms settings, but I cannot modify it.
The official doc simply says I cannot change it. (url not permitted for newbies and here's what they say):
To add or change the SMS service center number, follow these steps:
Note: We're sorry, but you cannot change the service center number. Follow the below steps to view the current number.
From any Home screen, tap Messages.
Tap the MORE icon.
Tap Settings.
Tap More settings.
Tap Text messages.
View the number under Message center.
Without that being properly set, I can only using calls and receive sms, but never send any.
I'm using the official firmware.
Anyone get an idea on this? many thanks.
I believe the same problem happens in G930T

Airplane mode causes loss of SMS message centre number - how to access Service Menu?

Hi all,
My 6P has a weird problem where it loses the SMS message centre number if I turn on Airplane mode at any point. On stock Oreo I had to go in to the hidden service menu and manually set the correct SMSC number or text messages wouldn't work.
However, I'm now on ABC ROM and the same thing has happened, but using the dialer code doesn't bring up the hidden service menu anymore!
So:
1. Why is my phone having this issue in the first place?
2. How can I set the SMSC number on a custom ROM?
Thanks loads for your help! :fingers-crossed:
Thankfully, I found this app which opens up the hidden service menu so I can change my SMSC number.
The question still remains though: why does my phone keep losing the SMSC number?
