[Q] Rooting SGH I437 (4.1.2) (HELP ME) - Samsung Galaxy Express SGH-I437 Questions & Answer

Hi. I'm, as you may expect, new to this website. I'm here for help. I have a Samsung Galaxy Express (Model: SGH I437) (4.1.2 Jellybean). I really want to root this phone, and I've attempted to search around not only this website, but tons of other websites, tried many rooting programs. But nothing worked. Could someone please help me out and give me a working method on how to root this phone?
Things Available to me:
SDCard (8GB)
Computers (Windows Vista + Windows 8)
USB Cable
Internet (Obviously)
Please help me out. Thanks.

There are a few ways to root this phone. Currently the OUDHS exploit posted by ShabbyPenguin is confirmed to work on all devices.
Shabby's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2240989
Instructions with updated links: http://www.technibility.com/root-sam...cm10-1-cm10-2/
You'll have to download the super su 1.25 from a different source, I think I've got one on my hard drive that I could link you if your having a hard time finding it.
Ive compiled a central thread for the i437 to help with the complication of us not having our own subforum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2510413

I just do not know exactly what i need to try next to download. The main reason that i want to root is to use Wi-Fi Tether. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have exhausted the search button so now I feel it's time to ask. it sucks bein stupid..

Just use the CF-auto root thread.

All the intructions are there. You have to download the files from the homepage in his thread. Then flash that file with Odin.

[Q] [QA] Been googling/searching... confusion on rooting AT&T i337 UCUFNI1

I'm not trying to be lazy. I've spent time searching for how to root my S4 i337, but for a newb like myself the process is extremely confusing since there seems to be so much different information out there, and not a lot about i337. From what I've discovered Towelroot no longer works as an option after I upgraded to 4.4.2 and I've tried other approaches which have failed as well. So without further ado
Is it possible to root a galaxy AT&T galaxy s4 i337 running 4.4.2 baseband I337UCUFNI1 ? If so, could someone share the links I should look at to accomplish this task?
Maybe I need to revert back to an earlier android release ? which I'm fine doing assuming something like this link should work: http://www.teamandroid.com/2014/03/30/update-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337-android-442-kitkat-goldeneye-rom/2/
After I revert (assuming it's needed) could someone recommend the next steps(links/threads) to get me to either a custom rom or latest 4.4.2 stock build (I'd prefer a custom rom for fun, but i'm fine with whatever is easiest.)
I have Odin installed and understanding getting to download mode, but deciding which "link" to follow out there for instructions is not easy for a beginner so any recommended 'easiest' approaches for my device would be appreciated.
TIA

Subscribe to All Thing AT&T. It has all the information needed, including how to root NI1.
root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=55537351
look there for instructions. it works . Flash the older kernal using odin, if it fails to flash the first time. Repeat. After u get it to flash. Then run towelroot. After u install towelroot. Flash the ni1 kernal. You will keep root. Thats how I did mine.

root the updated galaxy s5

so I got a Galaxy s5 in august. The phone is awesome as is, but I really want it rooted. I tried towelroot, but that failed because my phone runs on kitkat 4.4.4. I then tried Odin3 v1.85 to attempt it. This didn't work either. What other things can I try?

Hello,
Generally rooting a samsung device is fairly generic. However before I suggest a method I need to know the model number and variant of it you're using. Some devices have locked bootloaders which may require a different method to avoid damaging the device.

How to sim unlock Galaxy Note 3 SCL22 Lollipop 5.0?

I have Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SCL22 from au japan.

SCL22 on Lollipop
Same problem here, cant access the Service Menu and Can't use any sim in the Philippines.
Please somebody help us.
Probably found a solution in a Japanese forum. Though I haven't understand it fully (with google translate), but it can be something like this.
Do not upgrade the firmware from your phone (If you already did, then you can re-install it again with following procedure).
Instead download the official SCL22 Lollipop firmware from sammobile.com or somewhere else in your PC.
Extract the firmware and add "ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk" in /system/app/ directory. Probably we need to google a bit on how to rebuild a firmware. A starting point can be http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2138885
Then install the firmware using Odin.
After installation, follow the unlock instruction for Kitkat 4.3, which I think you know already. They are also available in the Japanese forum too.
http://www.neko.ne.jp/~freewing/android/au_scl22_galaxy_note3_sim_unlock/
Note: The ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk download link is given in the Japanese forum. Or I think it can be extracted from the Kitkat 4.3 firmware files too. Once I followed this post (http://allthec.blogspot.com/2014/11/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-note-3-scl22.html) to root my SCL22 Kitkat 4.4.2 which is specific to SCL22 only and very easy to follow, this should work for Lollipop 5.0 too, if you are interested to root your device. But rooting the device will not unlock the phone.
I haven't tried it in my phone yet. Can any of you try it and let us know how it goes. Hopefully it will work!
Awesome
Thanks tutul.net, I will try that out.
And the translation is terrible so I'll try with the little japanese I can read:
First Method:
 ・Using odin flash SCL22KDU2FNF7
 ・Unlock using the SCL22KDU2FNF7 method
 ・Dont upgrade past SCL22KDU2FNF7
Second Method:
・Using Odin only flash the SCL22KDU2FNF7 modem
・Extract the old version of the ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk and overwrite the new one (/system/app/ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk)
・Using the Service menu, *#0011#, unlock with the old method
Now that I actually wrote all that out, looks like you were spot on. Thanks again!
I have had a note.3 as a paper weight for about a year now, maybe your advice will finally let me use it.
Also it was kind of biatch to get that apk, so I reupped it somewhere else for convenience hope it helps someone: ServiceModeApp_RL.zip
I'm having trouble with this and it's getting me really frustrated... did you eventually get it to work?
can you just flash the modem? isn't the modem supposed to be .bin file?
if you were able to successfully rebuild the rom with the fix, it would help me greatly if you can upload it somewhere
any help is appreciated
Did anyone manage to do this?
Basically you need a Linux base PC to rebuild a tar.md5

Hey, may I know if you have successfully rebuild the tar.md5? I think it will need a Linux Ubunto based PC to do this (see links I post below)

Root Samsung S5 SM-G900F International without PC?

Hi,
I have been a big fan of this forum for years and it helped me solve many problems in the past - thank you all for the work you are doing here!
Unfortunately, I now ran into a problem which I cannot seem to solve myself.
I acquired a second-hand Samsung S5 SM-G900F International Version running Marshmallow which cannot be connected to my PC as the USB hub is broken (I didn't know that before and now I have it and have to work with it because I cannot just get another phone).
So, I tried to root it without a PC, which according to several sources I found online should not be a problem.
So far I have tried these rooting apps and none of them worked:
- Root Master
- Baidu
- Easy Rooting Toolkit
- Z 4 (which didn't even run but closed itself each time after 2 seconds)
- Kingo Root
- King Root
- Towelroot
- iroot
- Universal Androot
- Frama Root
- and I tried to use CF auto root, but there I couldn't even find a running apk
So, as it seems to me, none of these apps support the international version of the S5. And as I am not too eager to strip this phone to the bones and repair the USB hub myself: Do you have other ideas what I could do? I really just want to install LineageOS and get rid of Google
Thank you!

I really have no idea. If those methods, especially King(o)Root, did not work... clueless.
But in any case you could deactivate the OTA update feature of the stock rom, so you will not receive updates. That way you might have a chance that some root app implements an exploit that works in the future as bugs are found.
I just want point out for future reference that CFautoroot by chainfire (https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/) is not an apk but an ODIN flashable package. So still needs a USB connection.
Good Luck!
Hey,
thanks anyways!
I will let that post stand here in case someone in the future runs into the same problem or someone else has the magic solution.
I now decided to just get the USB hub repaired but of course, as it has to be, the display broke and needed repairing too - financially this whole project was not worth it. But I saved a phone
