[Q] Always running out of internal space. - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

I wonder why my phone runs out of internal space so quickly. Even with apps all installed in the SD card, as soon as it's time to update, the phone runs out of storage. I'm using a rooted stock rom with the latest update from Samsung and with a 2GiB microsd that came with the phone.
Is there a way to solve this without using a custom rom?

You need to get a minimum 8GB SD card & install Link2SD & link all the apps to the sd card, see the link2SD tutorial here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614700
Your ROM should also have init.d support & stock ROM doesn't have that

Yes, but what part of "without using a custom ROM." I said differently? Also, changing to a bigger SD card is not an option either. Link2SD also can't move system apps, unless I make them "installed" apps using Titanium Backup.

This seems to be a problem with the stock rom. I've used an assortment of custom roms and never ran out of internal space.

Try amarullz script

[Q] HOW TO INSTALL ANDROID APPS TO MicroSD CARD, INSTEAD TO PHONE MEMORY?

OK..I've done everything, installed DFT Android ROM for HTC LEO etc...everything seems to be working fine, BUT..((
Most of the apps from Market or any other cannot be moved from Phone memory to SD card, thus consuming all phone memory very fast, and disabling me to install any more apps...and we all know that Android rules just because there are so many apps for it...
So, my question is: is there any possible way of making Android install apps to SD card, rather then phone memory? 'Cause this way, my 16Gig card isn't much of use on Android )
Please help, because there is no point in having Android on this device, if I can install only so many apps on phone memory...
Very thankful in advance....
Greeting from remote Bosnia ))
Which Rom are you using?
I am using Hyperdroid and it allows me to move apps to SD.
And they are working fine.
I'm using Desire ROM...from DFT 2.2 Froyo..
And this one also allows moving apps, but just some, not all.....
Could anyone be as kind as to point me to a ROM with Sense that allows moving all apps to SD card?

The best method would be to create an ext partition for your phone. ALL the apps that would normally installed on the phone will be moved onto this partition on your SDcard, saving you space. However, the trade off is speed. It will be slightly slower, but I don't think you'll even notice the speed difference day-to-day.
You can follow my guide here on how to make an ext partition without losing your data on your SDcard. It should only take like 5min to do. [HOW-TO] Make Ext4 from Recovery Without Losing FAT32 Data
well, there are some apps on the market that allows u to move all the installed apps in the internal memory to the storage card.
Try App 2SD Enabler. When you run the app, be sure to read the instructions.
If that doesnt work, Titanium Backup has a function in it that allows you to move any installed app u want from internal to storage memory (when u open the app, press Menu and then Batch. There should be an option somewhere there)
edit: keep in mind that some apps such as widgets, have to be on the internal memory to work properly. The Ext4 method is good if u want to increase the internal memory (by sacrifasing some storage memory), but you won't be able to connect your phone to the pc via Mass Storage. Plus, if it's the method with the 3 partitions(tbh i don't know if it's just for the 3partition method or any partition number), some of the storage card will be used from the OS as well, making the removal of the SD card impossible.
I would recommend App 2 SD. I use it to move all the apps it can to the SD card and it really does free up a lot of space.
Does Titanium Backup allow all apps to be moved too SD card? Just curious because Apps2SD doesnt move all apps to the SD card just some of them from my experience..
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
The original DFT Desire ROM wasnt rooted correctly so use Z4Root from market then try using apps like Titanium and App2SD etc etc.
As an alternative, if you like sense but without all the bloat and lag try the rom in my signature, its a stripped down version oh DesireHD it flies like **** of stick and has all the best bits of sense
Try a different ROM
The DFT rom was also my first, but the internal memory filled up in no time and made it unusable for me.
In my experience, if you move an app to the SD card, some residual data goes onto the internal memory so you will find that you still use it up. As mentioned above, you will need to put certain apps and all widgets on the internal memory anyway.
I would go for a 'clean' rom that gives you plenty of free memory. You should then have no problem with it filling up. Titanium backup (free from market) is a good app, although Apps2SD (also free) is good as it lets you know how much space you have left.
I settled on the prj rom in my signature as it gives 180Mb free space from install and everything works as it is based on the DFT rom with minimal tweaks. There are plenty of clean roms out there, so try some out.
The best solution really for EU HD2's (512MB) is to use a rom that supports Data2SD as that actually extends your internal memory to the partition on SD card so you have say 1GB of internal memory, this is much better then any other current methods as its much more compatible with apps.
Also, dont mess about with Gpartid or other partition apps, You can use CWR to do it, just partition 1GB and then choose 0 for swap. (unless told otherwise by dev).
Thanks everyone, really...
I did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931126
Partitioned the card during setup and now I have 1Gig, which is OK..also the ROM is really stable and fast.... Try this, I'm quite happy, it works great and it is an upgraded version of DFT Desire ROM... Cheers!!!

My apps doesnt work from SD card!!

First of i have the latest HyperDroid-CM7
I have also done this guide. How to format your SD card
But even so i STILL cant get my apps to work when they are installed on the SD card. Had the same problem on the former ROM i had. I dont know whats wrong. If i move the app to the phone it works just fine.
PS. have installed app2sd (dont know wich one just googled one)
some apps just have this problem those apps (like angry birds) just only work when installed on phone memory

when you are using an ext partition, you dont choose to install to sd card, or use app manager to move them to sd card, , . Just leave them set to internal memory, and the OS will put them in the ext partition.

Your rom already has app2sd+ built in, (i think most do now, , note the +,, app2sd and app2sd+, not really sure of the difference, except the built in ones are +) you dont need to install it. It mentions app2sd+ in your roms second post, look out for that when you pick a rom, and you know it will automagically use the ext partition. No user input required.
If i move the app to the phone it works just fine.

do that, move an app back to the phone, then use a filemanager to browse to the sd-ext folder, you will see the app is there, , on the sd card, in the ext partition, even though the system says it is installed internally.
Thank you all for the awsome replies i will stick to it as it is..
God i love this phone....

How can I expand my internal storage?

Hey guys, hoping you could could give me more of a 'step-by-step' guide on how to expand my internal memory with my 8gb SD card. Please keep it mega-simple, I only got this phone yesterday, and managed to flash ICS thanks to a very basic tutorial.
Thanks

?? What ROM r u using ??
The easiest way is using application or script that move application to SD card. These things will move your application to your sd card and not wasting your internal memory. it's work perfectly fine.
There are many script available - chose one that match your ROM cause not all script are working perfectly to every ROM.
try search using A2SD and ....... (your ROM) to see which one work and which one donot...... Unfortunately i have to tell u that some script might working well with someone's phone (even u have the same ROM).
The second way is to install the app to SD program, like link2sd, app2sd... it's free on the market. Also this program is not working on everyone's phone. However it's easier to install.
after install script and application there might be a problem like low sound, lag, internet issue etc. so check that everything is Ok after u do anything.
I can't give u a step by step 'cause i dont know which ROM r u using.....

it's different for roms indeed. generally we have app2sd, app2sd+(aka app2ext), data2ext, d2sd, ad2sdx and so on.
the most basic and convenient 1 is link2sd from play store~
i think it's impossible to expand an internal storage. capacity is fixed. i read somewhere that some of space will be used for kernel and ROMs wil use another some of internal memory space to copy system files. so normally you will have internal memory available around 150-200MB depends on partition layout you make. the only way if you want to install many application is as mentioned above to move your application to SDcard, and i think link2sd app is the easiest way to do that

[GUIDE] Resolve Low Internal Space Issues

Well if you’re here you’ve probably gone and bought the ZTE Blade or one of its variants (Orange San Francisco, Dell XCD35 or the Idea Blade). You’ve probably been using it for a while now and I’m pretty sure you’ve come to that annoying moment when you download an awesome new app and get that pesky notification saying “Not enough memory”. Here’s a way to fix that problem albeit temporarily for rooted and non-rooted users alike
# Non Rooted Users:
First off, if you’re Android version says 2.1, it means you’ve got a Gen1 device. It’d be best top update it to a Gen2 device yourself using a TPT, or ask your manufacturer to do it for you. Now assuming you have a Gen2 device, i.e. your Android version says 2.2, this is how you go about getting space to install more apps.
-Once you install an app, open the settings menu
-Go to the “Applications” menu and select the “Downloaded” tab
-Select any application
-Keep in mind that this works only for applications that have been granted movability by their developer
-Android 2.2 onwards has an inbuilt option that allows users to move part of the app to the SD card. You should see an option saying “Move to SD Card”. If you do not see it, or it is grayed out, that means the developer has restricted the option. This is common for some apps like widgets
-Repeat for any number of apps you want.
Note : This provides only a little breathing space and allows you to squeeze in a few more apps. The root methods are far more effective. There's also an app called APP2SD to help with this on Google Play
.
# Rooted Users
The following methods are only for rooted users. To check if your phone is rooted, download the Root Checker app from Google Play. Rooted users have two methods of increasing storage space: Apps2SD+ and A2SD.
Apps2SD+ is similar to the inbuilt option that comes with Android 2.2. However, this enables rooted users to move more of the app to the SD card and also move ANY application to the SD card irrespective of the developer’s restrictions. There are two things that must be kept in mind while using this method. One, widgets do not work if moved to the SD card, so refrain from doing that. Two, the SD card is read after booting, so moving too many apps to the SD card (75+) will cause the phone to hang a lot at boot and reboot several times. This is done using an app. I recommend "DroidSail SuperApps2SD''
A2SD is the process of partitioning the SD card and using it as phone storage. This is by far the best method to increase storage space as a 1GB partition allows you to install 500+ apps, the ease of use and performance aside. This is available for most ROMs if they support an sd-ext script. Partitioning the SD card can be done using Minitool Partition Wizard or by ClockworkMod Recovery. The recommended partition size is 1GB as this is more than enough. The swap should be kept at 0MB or if you use the phone for gaming, at 32MB. Once the memory card is partitioned, the apps along with all their data can be moved to this partition. This can be done by two ways. DarkTremor A2SD scripts for most ROMs, or S2E for CyanogenMod. This is very easy to use and having done it myself, I have 450 apps and the phone’s performance isn’t the slightest bit affected.
Partitioned and still no space? See this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933144
Good Luck installing those 500 apps and showing off with them

hi there. hoping someone may still read this.
Any options for resolving low storage space issues on a Blade V without rooting?
I've moved literally app possible to the SD card (which isn't many).... Are photos not stored on the SD card by default? I've had to start uninstalling updates for system apps that I don't use
with "low storage" my Gmail doesn't sync...which obviously is f*cking annoying
I've had andoids before and rooted them, installed custom ROMs. Just I'd avoid it with this one due to my fear of screwing it up. Is rooting my only realistic option?

Rooting and then using the solutions in the op seems to be the only plausible option.
However, you can try a cache cleaning app. Should give you 10-15MB depending on how many apps have cached data

You don't have a problem with the internal memory. You're simply encountering a normal occurrence, as not every app supports moving its data to the MicroSD card. Since your list of apps doesn't support being moved to the MicroSD the only way to clear storage is to uninstall the apps. You may of course try apps to SD card options, but I'm not sure how well they will work on Android 5.x.

even there's no way to force move this apps ?

To move the app data from internal storage would be to break the app itself. You don't want that.
Humor me here. Are you rooted, and are you using a custom recovery? If you are, which recovery?

at the first place i want to restore my space back
yeah , my phone is rooted and am using omega v28 5.0.1 rom
with custom recovery , TWRP 2.8.7.0 touch recovery
I just wanted to make sure you weren't using Clockworkmod or Philz, as those are notorious for eating internal storage. If you want to restore the lost space, you have to uninstall the apps. It's either that or you learn to live with it until Android 6.0 custom ROMs are made available for your device. Android 6.0 allows you to merge internal and external storage so that Android sees the two as a single volume, and that definitely would eliminate your problem.
Oh dear oh dear
ok thanks bro any way , i will try to live with it
Until it happen
Is there anyway to make Google play download / update to the sd card not the internal ??
