We should be able to unroot, get the update and then reroot, no? Or does rooting permanently trip the counter?

Well, that worked perfectly, once I rebooted from unrooting I checked for updates, it came through and I applied it, now to see if I can reroot on this new FW.

So all you had to do is unroot? Did your tablet have the modified flag set?
Thanks!

That was it, just go into settings on Super SU, click unroot and then reboot. I haven't checked on the flag set, but under settings it still says "custom", so I am assuming the flag is set.

Well, I have an answer as to whether root will work on this new FW, and the answer is yes! One odd thing though, when it was done rooting and it rebooted, I got a message about the FW update failing, which is obviously wrong since I successfully updated the FW, it must trip something that makes the device think an update failed.

make sure you unfreeze any apps. if you uninstalled the apps via titanium then you may have to odin back to stock. some of these updates look to see if the files it needs to update exist.
also, if the update fails to go through the first time (after actually downloading it) and you the the error gotta use kies warning. just boot into recovery and wipe cache and try again.
as a confirmation, bean's root still works. i didn't get the update failed though. i rebooted fully after accepting the update before running the root.
i don't see much improvement in speed yet, but chrome is all i've tested as the old reader's site runs crappily slow in landscape still (but it doesn't seem as crappily bad). vertical runs smoother though. if the old reader is taxing on chrome then overall chrome should be better. i haven't run any benchmarks and never will. a 100% increase from .01 seconds to.005 seconds only makes bars on comparison charts bigger without actually affecting the performance in real life.

After I did the update and it was all finished, I did get the "update successful" message, I just got the "update unsuccessful" message on the reboot after rooting. I did forget to defrost the Knox Apps, but since the update was successful, it must not have touched those.

It seems much snappier and most of the lag is gone, overall it just feels smoother.

Agreed, it feels smoother, I haven't played with multiuser much but do you have to reinstall all apps on the new accounts? Would it take up a lot of space?

i've been through four reboots and haven't gotten the update unsucessfull message yet. on my first reboot after rooting i did freeze all the knox, fota and software update apps. so it could be why i don't see it.

Okay no joke, this update really did speed up my device. Not much lag when turning the screen on and unlocking it.

That's probably it, all I froze before unrooting and applying the update were the Knox apps (which I also happened to forget to unfreeze), I didn't touch FOTA or Software Update.

[Q] S5, Updating to 4.4.3 when rooted?

I've done a bit of searching and can't seem to find the answer. This is my first smart phone tbh so rooting is fairly new to me. BEFORE I rooted my phone (using CF-Auto-Root), the phone had updated to Android 4.4.3. After rooting it had returned to 4.4.2, I'm assuming this is because the device got flashed by CF-Auto-Root to firmware version 4.4.2 but modified to include SuperSU. I don't really care that it got flashed to a lower version, however I do want to know how to update it. Do I simply have to wait until ChainFire releases a rom (it is a rom right?) that's 4.4.3? Or is there some other method to update the firmware. If I do have to wait, how do I know when there is a new version to flash with?
You had 4.4.3? There is no samsung 4.4.3 available yet as far as i know...from samsung or leaked. Unless I missed it which I pretty sure I havent

Yes, my phone auto downloaded it about a week or two before I rooted, and I rooted 12 days ago. I have a G900I, perhaps Oceania got the update early? Is it not released?

I think you might have just accidentally misread it. 4.4.3 was never pushed out yet. And chain fire's root tool wouldn't have downgraded anything. All it does is temporarily flash a modified recovery, root the phone, delete the recovery, then reboot into the OS again. Nowhere in that process does it upgrade/downgrade the software or firmware. Oh, and it's not a ROM, it's just a ODIN file that contains a recovery and root zip) :good:

I did not misread it, it said it was downloading a software update, my phone restarted (I think), then under the About Device section the "Android version" said 4.4.3. I have absolutely 0 doubt about it, I remember checking (for whatever reason) after rooting and noticed it had returned to 4.4.2. I don't know what happened or what it was, but it said I had 4.4.3.
EDIT: Thanks for explaining what CF does, that's quite clever. Also does make it "downgrading" less likely. But I'm positive it did, or my device lied to me about updating.

That's really strange. Can you upload a picture of your "about device" screen? A lot of the time android gets updates, but it never actually changes the android version. But the screenshot would be nice to see what else changed.

Here are the screenshots, obviously it doesn't say 4.4.3, I wish I could go back and take a screenshot of that (though maybe I can if I unroot? since software update gets denied now for modifying the phone).

It's weird that your baseband and your software versions don't match. A lot of things don't add up here, but I'm not doubting you got 4.4.3. It happens sometimes when manufacturers try to test an update, and you must have checked for updates at the exact same time.
If you go to a random samsung app, like the Phone app, and go to "App Info", what does it say as the version? It would be "4.4.2-G900TUVU1ANE6" for me.
These are the version numbers for 4.4.3: Look at the G900H since it's the same as your phone.

I'm not quite sure where to find App Info? By the phone app do you mean Phone, green icon, defaults to bottom left button? I tried pressing the menu in there etc, but couldn't find an About anywhere. Also I've deleted a few of the default Samsung apps.

See this is the weird part. There was no way the root file would have downgraded you to this. How long did it take to flash cf auto root? Probably 15 seconds. For the phone to downgrade every app and the whole system partition would take a minimum of 5-10 minutes. Meh, who knows. :silly:

Yeah I dunno, it was pretty quick. Regardless of how it downgraded it. How do I upgrade it later? I get it's not readily available at the moment, but since the software update button no longer works how will I do it later? Is it as simple as unrooting, then updating, then rerooting? If so...would it just downgrade it again "some how".

Once you root, you can't get OTA's anymore. You would have to use ODIN to flash the newest software which would wipe all your data. The other option is to just flash a stock rom in a custom recovery since you're rooted anyway.

....Right. So, I assume there will be some kind of instructions for this when 4.4.3 is officially released? I'd look into how to do what you say now except there would be no point.

1. Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697762
2. Find a rom in the "development" section that says it's a stock rom. It should say wether or not it's an ODIN or zip file. (example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770616)
3. Just flash that without wiping and if there is a corresponding firmware file (usually also posted in the same thread), flash that with ODIN.

I'm on kk now and I'd like to try lollipop. But, what if a permanent root is found and it does only work for kk in example? I wouldn't like to get stuck on lollipop with no root.

I am on 4.4.4 still and this is the process you can use to get the ODIN files. Can I ask why you want to revert back? I was thinking of going to LP.
Do I need to extract the two ".tar md5" files inside the attachment ( renamed from ".tar" to ".zip" I can see these two files inside the folder) when using odin? Or do I just put the attachment on my pc desktop and select that? I'm new to odin so I apologize if this appears to be a stupid question. But the last thing I need is to brick this baby.

No question is "stupid" just the un-asked ones there are 4 files in the .TAR, they start with the 1st TWO letters as follows.... a "AP_" , "BL_" , "CP_" and "CSC_" each of those files corresponds to a certain button on ODIN. So you download the TAR, extract it and you end up with 4 files that are to be loaded under ODIN via their appropriate button. Here is a post of a description I posted for someone.

I HATE the colors. There's no uniformity and I think the colors in lollipop are hideous. I HATE the new location of the camera shutter button. I HATE that the weather edge panel no longer works. And I HATE the battery life I've been getting since updating. Lollipop may be snappier (because of ART as apposed to Delvic) but not enough for me to notice or sacrifice battery time for.
These might be trivial reasons but they're driving me insane. I LOVED this phone until the update. You may have started me in the direction of falling in love again.

Thank you for the information. I'm concerned because, when changed to ".zip" I only see the AP and BL files. Also, when I copy the attachment to my PC, I cannot extract the files inside because Windows doesn't support ".tar" folders and if I change to ".zip", Windows tells me the folder is empty.

I cannot thank you enough. I downgraded last night and my Edge is awesome again. Now if I avoid AT&T pushing through that Damn lollipop update, I'll be golden. I've read that, if you use a certain ad blocking app and enable blocking of the AT&T Software Update App, that it will shut down the app every time it tries to communicate out or receive a signal. I'll let you know how THAT works.
Again, thanks for posting the .tar files and for talking me through the Odin process. YOU ROCK! !!!
Exit: Damn!! Lollipop update just downloaded. I postponed it. I hate having this update pushed on me. There's gotta be a way to stop it besides root. I'm gonna try tearing apart the md5 file and see if I can delete the update app before reflashing. Never done itanything like this but, hey, how else do you learn?

That sucks. What about clearing the cacher or actually doing a factory reset in twrp beforehand? Would that make a difference?

Well according to the OP it reboots at the "optimizing apps" screen.
In the "Sprint GS5 android 6.0" thread someone posted they got the 6.0.1 update on Sprint S5 early this morning. He hasn't posted anything else yet other than the update was about 900MB.
So recovery can be flashed on the mm firmware. What about root

Well the Phone crashes every time the after the optimization screen,Only the first time when I did not wipe my data and restored the backup,The phone booted up fine and Asked me for my default launcher,Touchwiz or EasyTouchwiz,After I selected the Touchwiz it brought me right to the home screen and when I opened the settings,The phone hung up and Crashed....Did a reboot and Started crashing after the app optimization screen,Every time at the app optimization screen it optimized to Apps,Systemui and Camera....Maybe there is something wrong with the backup....

After checking for updates relentlessly for days, I just received an OTA update download from Sprint to my all-stock g900p. Here's how I think I got it to download. Could be coincidence, who knows, but this is what just happened.
My service suddenly got poor this week, so I opened the Sprint Zone app, pressed the Network button, and saw that a PRL Update was available. I clicked UpdatevPRL. It updated yo xxx51, but still showed that a PRL update was available. So I did ANOTHER PRL update, and that updated my PRL to 55052, and PRL status changed to Current. I then did a Profile Update, and I powered off my phone. When I started up again, the software update started. It said the download would be 895mb in size. I am on stock BOK4, and I have not run the update.
This is what the info says:

Of course, if any devs want to snag it, I'll be super happy to upload the OTA file for the XDA community to devour!!
I am shocked and amazed that Sprint pushed this thing out on time as advertised. My mind is now officially blown.

according to this thread it is stored in the cache/fota_dn folder and you need root access to see the file there. It should have a long string of numbers and letters.

Firmware Downgrade Options

Is there a way to rollback to a previous firmware?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Sprint variant it's unlocked and I'm using it on AT&T.
I recently upgraded the firmware to the APL 6 version.
I also need help finding a method to root my device and remove all the bloatware.
All the methods I have found so far have been unsuccessful im guessing because its a newer firmware.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Since you are on the latest firmware which has the newer bootloader the furthest you can roll back is pj2. Some people have had luck rooting it like this guy but you have to be on pj2

^ beware if you root it on PJ2 you may end up having to unroot. I rooted on PL6 and couldn't call or text anyone. Did 2 days of research with no luck. I heard the same thing happens if you root PJ2.
Also, if you end up needing to unroot, make sure you get the most recent update file. For some reason Odin gives you errors if you use lower firmwares (at least in my experience).
Good luck man.

Why would you wanna go back to previous version tho? I suggest you flash the new firmware, the BQAA, it's Android Nougat. I updated and mine took aprox 20 mins or so. My disabled apps werent reactivated nor installed. Ill give you the apk i used for disabling if you want. You don't need root for it. I successfully disabled ALL bloat i dont need eg. Sprint apps, Amazon apps and etc. Plus, the new features are superb especially that ability to lower your device's reso. although its ugly af. it helps battery, a lot. And plus its much snappier. ill open a thread after a week of my experience to give feedback for those who are afraid to jump in.

My main purpose is to remove all bloatware i dont just want to disable them i play games on my phone and unnecessary apps/background processes slow device perfomance and and take up space. Im also tired of the sprint activation crap popping up.
If i can get a clean version of Nougat without carrier bloat then ill consider it but until then ill go with U firmware or root the 930p firmware

The new update has Performance/Gaming modes, i think that'll help. Plus, when you disable the app using a good disabler, it actually uninstall the thing and it will leave it for about 24 kilobytes max is 1mb. Which is barely a size of a photo. When you disable an app, it doesn't run nor slow your device because it's disabled. But it's your call budd. I suggest that you try it out first, give it a chance and save yourself a hassle of flashing unofficial firmwares with the risk of bricking ur 800 dollar phone. my opinion tho, it has gotten even snappier with the update. been using it for 2 days now, im opening a review thread after a week of using it for people that are afraid to jump in, u might wanna wait for that if u want. anyways, good luck!!!

Hey guys. Just need a lil help to straighten out a lil issue i have. I also have a sm-g930p unlock using overseas (outside the US). So i flash it over with the latest fw of sm-g930U. Which i think i regret doing it. My problem now is i'm a little bit fraid. I just want to know if i need back the latest fw of sm-g930p with same or newer build date to flash back. Or can i just grab the recent one on sammobile which as yet for sprint it only has the may security patch. Because the one i have install is june security patch. Meaning the kernel is 3.18.31 june 19 build date.. in these case should i wait till it's uploaded which I'm hoping but no sure it would have same kernel numbers. Meaning i would even have to wait further more for July security patch fw ??? Please help so confuse which would be my best option not to brick my phone on rolling back..

All Note FE Android Pie discussion here.

Alot of people did not expect to get the android P but here we are with the mighty note packing the latest and greatest. I honestly use my fe more than my note 8 it's slim, not too small not too big and it's battery hold up surprisingly excellent.
A part of getting the update was the changelog wich mentioned there is " lift to wake" feature which I assumed can be found in the settings specifically in advanced features but I looked and it wasn't there I looked up xda and couple of sites found nothing about that any idea what went wrong and why I can't see it?

Hey, unfortunately can't help much with this right now, as I got the notification to update but I'm apprehensive about it, as I would like to root my device in the near future.
My own question regarding the PIE release for Note FE, is basically if rooting would still be possible or not.

Hi, can you tell me how to do this, to downgrade from Pie to Oreo?
The Pie update ruined my phone for me which was the primary reason I got it. Now I can no longer use the dual-sim + sdcard mod, and I need to access my sims as I'm overseas and cannot get a replacement. The mod is irreversible.
Is there a way to go from Pie back to Oreo, without using Odin (what is Odin?) or any USB method?
Another problem is my phone can't communicate with USB, I should have sent it in for warranty when I had the chance but didn't. I can use "Update from SDCARD" in bootloader though
The only way to downgrade is using Odin. Its very easy. Go to Sammobile look search the firmware section for the Note FE you have look for Android 8.0 download it, there will be a download for Odin also. Once firmware is downloaded extract the firmware. Once odin is downloaded extract it. Open odin connect device make sure it reads device. In odin click BL..go to firmware find BL put in BL spot in odin. Then click AP in odine find AP in firware add to odin..do the same for CS and CSC files click start. If you dont know how to use odin you really need to go to youtube or something and watch a couple videos..its basic flashing.

To be honest I find oreo much faster and stable. I didn't notice a big difference with the UI I think it's more organized. There is a new night mode but it doesn't apply for everything and some apps gets weird colors. The fingerprint is definitely faster and more responsive. I'd say battery is about the same. Yes, you do not need to be rooted to use Odin. Try a factory reset first then Odin.

i'm not sure this have been posted or not but the Pie update do cause my wife phone random rebooting... originally i taught it might be hw damages as the phone sometimes even failed at the boot screen (not even reaching the samsung logo and stucked at the galaxy note screen) this is why i've suspected hw issue as at that stage the phone sw should be still totally not loaded yet. Somehow after a hard reset the phone seem back to normal. This not same case as my own note fe where during oreo already having random rebooting issue and the only solution was lower the cpu clock to 1.35GHz for its big cores.
All Softwares Notification stops after the P update
Dears please your help
after the P update that i got it from 15 days i noticed that i didn't receive any notifications from my mobile till i open the screen or in some times to open the software or sometimes the notifications delayed about 1 or 2 hours or more

Fady make sure you are not on battery saving mode also some of programs are optimized and won't work in the background so they don't drain battery you can disable that and everything will back to normal also make sure auto sync is turned on.

Wifi is always turned on even if the screen is off there is no longer an option for that. If you are to a hotspot wireless connection then your phone probably restricting data. make sure the app is not optimized and check background data as in pictures showing. I highly recommend a full hard reset after update to avoid weird glitches.

Hi,
Does anyone rooted N935L (LG) edition?
I tried instructions for N935F/DS to root, but it ends up with "No Sim / Sim Card" Error and my IMEI disappears. Similar instructions from N935F/DS worked for N935L in Nougat. So, after upgrading to Pie using OTA, I tried instructions for rooting Pie. Everything went fine, but on the first boot itself network is gone. Now I cannot go back to Oreo or Naugat because of Bootloader.
I had to to flash Pie (from Updato) again using Odin and then I got the network back.
Can anyone help on how to root N935L..?
Thanks in advance.

Do a HARD RESET from phone or better from factory recovery( turn off phone, pres at the same time volume up + home button + power on button and wait until first logo shows than let go of power button and than ull see recovery many after 10 initial seconds of blue android logo screen) than go to factory data reset with volume down and confirm it with power button. Ur phone will be reset to factory settings.
