How to get rid of lag for good (firmware update) - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

-Kiss the lag goodbye first, since you'll never see it again
-Download Odin 3.09, and download this firmware file -BMJ6 (its 2 updates newer than the one most people have)
Choose AUSTRALIA
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SM-P600&pcode=0#firmware
-Put your tablet in download mode, connect by USB, choose the md5 file in Odin (AP) and flash
-Once it boots up and you're in, factory reset
-Once you are in in again, install Nova Launcher (optional but recommended)
-Open S voice, hit menus, and disable option that allows it to be launched via home button
-Uninstall/Disable any useless apps
-Give the tab 5-10 minutes to update/index everything, and watch it fly
OPTIONAL:
-Obtain root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490805
-Freeze the 7 Knox containing items in the Titanium Backup app and any garbage you see fit (S-Finder, S-Voice, Samsung apps)
**I tested this on my P600 bought from the States, and it's blazing fast now, keyboard launch speed, home button speed, notification bar.. even Chrome is faster.

you may lose access to some apps. I think if you edit the build.prop or some csc file and set the region to xar it should give back some apps.

^this is correct, so far though I've been able to access all apps I use. Haven't observed anything missing yet. Speed is so worth it right now

You need to be rooted for this I'm assuming? I just picked mine up today and yes there is so much lag, even with Nova launcher.
Any tips on how to fix it without rooting first? Kinda waiting for a 0x0 Knox root for the SMP600

Oh okay cool. Stupid question though, will this trip Knox?
And how do you get into Download mode again?

I'm not too sure about the Knox question, what happens when it gets tripped? I've had no knox notifications or problems at all after I flashed it
and even after rooting and freezing knox, still no problems or notifications during boot or when im in andorid..
Download: When tablet is off, hold power button and volume down until you see the screen, then volume up to continue

Flashing this Stock Firmware Update via ODIN will not trip KNOX, so you can do that without worries.
But if you root device with the optional information at the bottom of the OP, you will trip the KNOX "eFuse". I personally don't are about my KNOX status as ROOT is more important for me, and I purchased a SquareTrade warranty for the device, and they don't care either.

Is this the same FW Update that this user got?

Also, can we use Mobile ODIN to flash this?

Thanks! Now we need a way to extract it and make a flashable for us rooted users.

If we unroot using Super SU, it should allow updates again, no? Or does rooting permanently trip the counter?

Well, that worked, once I rebooted from unrooting I checked for updates, it came through and I applied it, now to see if I can reroot on this new FW.

You can definitely re-root after this firmware. The UI is definitely snappier. Thanks to the OP!

Can someone confirm that this does eliminate all lag? In particular, can someone with LectureNotes confirm that there is no problem coming out of the app?
I'm on a crappy iPad Air and am missing my Note!!

I rooted via Beans and got the "system modified" message so no update for me. Flashed MJ4 via Odin 3.09 and was able to get the update (didn't have to reset), but will have to reroot. SuperSU pro won't even launch.

no, no speed increases. either everyone else must have had crappy tablets or they're just having a placebo affect. hell, i even factory reset after the last update just for S&G's and had 0 improvement. if it is better, then it must be so minute that i can't perceive it and no benchmark that gives hgher numbers will make me see any speed increases in real use.
i am happy with it, but samsung must have come out with some crappy software to bog this beast down. i mean even the keyboard lags when typing. i can type craploads faster using thumb kb instead of the samsung split kb.
and the multitouch issue hasn't been resolved either -that's been discussed in some other thread here.
i'd love for them to fix all these issues, but if we don't have a dev to replace beans (if he leaves) then i'll have to ignore any future updates if we have to give up root for it.

Everything was running pretty smooth for me already but this last update has definately increased the speed in opening and closing applications, restart and shut down, coming out of lockscreen and overall efficiency in Graphical rendering. My guess is that the update improved communication between the octocore processors and the GPU. Lecturenotes is fluid both in both opening closing and using it in multiwindow.

The biggest things that improved for me with this update was the opening/closing of apps and the fluidity of screen rotation. The UI was smooth before the update but certain aspects were definitely improved after it.
You gotta admit guys, we all should know by now that YMMV with updates. What might make things better for one person might make it worse for another...

OK I've used MK1 for 3 days now, and I just flashed back to the J6 in the OP
It is way faster, I'm not convinced its an older build but just a different one (for Non-NA)
Either way, I'm glad I flashed back, much faster, and i get the ripple effect on the lock screen again
PS: if you care for the multi user account, which I don't, then stick to MK1
this is my opinion and what I consider fast/snappy, as stated above YMMV

Wow. Just went back to the 2014 and installed all 3 updates, then rooted. Seems ok, but still lag in waking.

Great I have been waiting for the US version,
On your upgrade did root carry over from your previous install or did you re-root with TR or use the kernel swap method?

If you disable KNOX during root process, it will crash some services which causes system crash when waking up (see Q&A section).
TR won't work anymore but you can swap kernels with AN3 (or 1) root with TR then swap back to NK1 and not trip knox.
Anyways someone (on another thread) said the ANG1 firmware have + - adjustment for auto brightness however I'm not seeing that option in this firmware did they remove it in this revision (I never tested ANG1) so just wondering.

The day that I installed the OTA my battery life was pretty bad, on a very basic level it drained a little more than twice as fast when using the table the same way in the past.
It could just be because the new software was flashed and it needs to settle a bit and maybe a reboot or two, well that is what I am hoping at least.

[P907A] New Software Update P907AUCU1ANK2

It looks like Samsung and AT&T have released the SM-P907A's first software update. It's still Android 4.4.2 but fixes a really major bug that caused the System UI process to go into an infinite crash loop when you would adjust the volume while connected to a Chromecast.
As far as the BSOD goes, so far, I have not experienced it with this new firmware. That said, I want to use it for at least a week before I say for sure that it's fixed.
One bug that doesn't seem to be fixed, though, is with VPN. Using the standard Android VPN functionality, I can connect to my work's Cisco VPN via IPSec Xauth PSK on any Android device except on the P907A. If I set it up, it connects, then immediately disconnects. Annoying.
AT&T also added a bigger, more gaudy 4G LTE icon.

Mine is still BSODing after the update. No difference, and maybe worse...
Yep my SM-P907a also getting the blue screen the update hasn't fixed the issue.

It unrooted mine also, I even had the box checked in SuperSU to try to maintain root. Guess I may have to look into reverting back to old firmware...
EDIT: I ended up using ODIN to go back to stock. After doing so, I rooted using towelroot then before installing SuperSU I used the debloat script to disable Knox and the updater. This has allowed me to have root without Knox tripping plus no random reboots. In short use the debloat script and not SuperSU to disable Knox and you will be good to go.

I am working up a post here in general outlining how to do everything I talked about.
I just got mine back from Samsung repair for the 3rd time. So in total, they have replaced the motherboard twice, the screen twice and updated the sw each time. It is still doing the blue screen nonsense! I'm really discouraged. I can't find much online about this problem. I will keep up with this forum in hopes of someone being able to come up with a solid solution. I have lost my faith in Samsung. Lol and that's sad because every device I own is Samsung. Over the past few months, I have managed to teach myself how to root my tablet...any further than that gets really confusing. Lol so any help would be appreciated!

That firmware is just for the UK, which I believe went to NI1 last fall about a month before the U.S. went to NK1.
I don't know that I'd read a lot into it. If anything, they could be getting UK firmware better aligned with other locations for a smoother universal upgrade to 5.
Edit: Okay, looks like it's indeed out now for the U.S., too. Still hoping it's progress towards a Lollipop upgrade.
So does anyone actually know what changes this update brought? I was having some issues with my tab pro 8.4 missing touches, i 1st noticed it during gaming but was able to replicate it with display tester multitouch test.
It seems to be fine now, i thought for sure it was a hardware defect but now I'm not so sure. Anyone else in a similar position as me?

Could you put the steps I need in order to what you did here?
I have the Romanian version of the updated ROM on a T325.
The biggest issue I have noticed is with the light sensor, with the previous ROM the auto setting worked smoothly, now with the new ROM the screen doesn't fade continuously. Whenever I turn on the screen the brightness just switches from a higher to a lower setting or inversely (without smooth fading and with lag), also the screen flickers horribly when it detects a change so I can't use the auto anymore.
The second issue is with the Samsung keyboard with learning disabled, in a Facebook floating chat window I tried to respond to someone and the keyboard would auto complete with empty words and after every word I had to delete the word before to be able to write the next word. I had to re-enable the learning to get rid of this very annoying problem.
I will try to downgrade to the previous ROM and root it with towelroot and say goodbye to any future official Samsung updates. Samsung has the ****tiest update developers, actually I had the same problem with the auto light setting (but not so serious) with the ROM which was before the good one.
By the way, if Lollipop comes DON'T UPGRADE. Lollipop on S5 sucks bigtime, the phone has major issues, android eats more battery than the screen.
Stick with the previous ROM, for me it was the most flawless one. I might try a cache wipe on the current ROM but I doubt it has anything to do with the screen flickering.

After losing root when I took the T320UEU1AOC1 update, I was able to flash the T320 kernel in this thread then use Towelroot again. I did have to reboot, even though it told me I wouldn't need to. I uninstalled and reinstalled SuperSU (hit cancel when I got the SuperSU notice about Knox) and verified root with Root Checker Basic. Then installed the AOC1 kernel. I still have root and Knox is not tripped. (KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0; KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0)

Did you install this via TWRP and kept root, or just the regular Amazon update?
How is the speed? Slower than 4.5.x, or about the same?

So you just gave up on the whole root business ? Back to the Amazon empire for good ?
Amazon probably could not keep up with the changes required for Lollipop 5, and so they are switching to stock versions of stuff. Which is good news for us, those who manage to keep root going forward ! I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Edit: Amazing update so far. Much closer to stock android! It even has wallpapers enabled by default. It has a few strange grapgical glitches but nothing to worry about. Many of the apps are stock instead of amazonified. For example the browser and even Launcher are stock aosp. Even the recents activity is aosp. I really do like this. If we never get a custom rom, this will be the best choice as an os

Sounds incredible! I don't know about developer previews, so just to clarify: Amazon has killed the carousel and is (finally) providing aosp-like launcher that allows wallpaper?!
Are you testing Kingroot yet? lol!

ya pretty much at least as of now unfortunately. I made the mistake of updating to the 4.x version and lost root so I'm stuck for now

Well at least in the preview. Also I need to check if the amazon Launcher is still disabled. Some reason pm unblock was not working for me earlier. That may have been changed to prevent that stuff.. No KingRoot does not work

would it be possible to remove the recovery and bootloader it comes with an flash it to a device with twrp and an unlocked bootloader?

it is only plausible if we can either root this version so we can grab the partition we want, find the direct download to the bin update file, or somehow grab the update file once it's downloaded via otaverify

I'd sugest doing a factory reset
Sent from my LG-V480 using Tapatalk
considering doing that anyway - the screen is extremely twitchy and seems to react if you simply look at it wrong lol.
but I really like this, and probably won't even try to -> 4.5.3 -> root. agree with the comments about lollipop possibly being different enough they may never try to re-spamazon-ify this OS as hard as they have in the past. (but I'll still keep updates blocked if possible lol)
---------- Post added at 08:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:21 PM ----------
oh and good call on speeding up by hitting system update. although surprisingly my did it on its own within minutes of applying for 5.0 on spamazon.
(which is doubly-hilarious, because I had gone through their phone support in an effort to downgrade mine to 4.5.3, and after tens of minutes of trying to convince them that YES IT IS POSSIBLE, they agreed and said it would take up to 24 hours. naturally it never happened, and subsequent calls to try to make it happen were even more painful lol. trying to explain the whole thing again over and over, surprising since obvs they had records/logs of the initial request...)

You might wamt to do a factory reset as well. Seems to have fixed some of my issues i've had before in 5.0. Good thing you can downgrade without calling now
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
had definitely been considering the reset - thing was getting abominably super-hot and the screen was absolutely not behaving. but next day, it seems to have changed its mind lol. possibly just b/c it cooled down.
I wonder also if some of the weird behavior was due to some spamazon packages still remaining pm-blocked, even after the OS update? obvs a factory reset would clear this, although I could also just use the debloater tool to check. (well, whenever I get a chance to run windows)
also also, can you report any experience with the stock kindle-reader app in this version? (up until now, I have been using the hackified version that I believe you can be thanked for repackaging)
and getting some consistent failures on spamazon-appstore apps, but not all of them. instant video and mp3/music are fine, but xbox-smartglass and spamazon-echo always fail. probably also just indicates need to reset the whole thing...

if kingroot didnt work on 4.5.4 why would it work on 5.0 at all. its not like they released 5.0 with the same vulnerable kernel as 4.5.3 and below

Official Verizon update???

Hey there, everybody. I'm currently running a manually odexed version of the stock N900VVRUEOF1 firmware, with bootloader unlock, TWRP 2.8.7.0, and am both rooted and running Xposed framework...
Out of nowhere, I see a long-forgotten icon, in my notification tray. It's saying there's a software update available! I wanted to make sure this wasn't some fluke (or to make sure I wasn't dreaming), so I checked out Verizon's update list.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/software-updates/
Lo, and behold! There's an actual, honest-to-goddess update! (Listed as: LRX21V.N900VVRSEPL1)
However, there is little to no information on what it is or does, apart from the ever-vague "latest security updates"...
Fearing a potential planned obsolescence (like the Note 7) or it wrecking my custom root/recovery/bootloader status, I haven't installed it.
I could try to unpack it all and go digging through it, but that takes way more time or energy than I can currently devote to this sort of thing...
Does anybody know what is involved with this update or have any other information as-to what it includes?

Would love to know as well. However I am not rooted nor do I want to.
I was honestly shocked when I saw the notification.
I'm tempted to go through with the update but since I like how I have my phone setup at the moment, im really hesitant to install it.
Would love to hear from anyone that has!

Thanks for the update, GoNavyMike.
That's about all I could find as well. :-/
In an effort to get a better idea of what has changed, would you have happened to have installed this? If so, would you say that there's any noticeable difference in performance or features, apart from the obvious potential app updates?
I'm all for the performance fixes and whatnot, but I really don't wanna lose root. Does this patch over current root methods, bump the Lollipop build up to 5.1 (sdk21), or anything like that? These are the kinds of things that a number of folks (myself included) are curious about. If you have updated, any insight you might provide would be very valuable!
Thanks for your time!

Was shocked to see myself.
I'm having trouble to disable the notification.
Tried using disable services from the playstore and unticking system update from Google framework also tried the Disable system updates app for rooted devices. Also the tick mark to hide notifications is grayed out on System Update in applications.
Im running Stock VRUEOF1 with TWRP and rooted.
Any suggestions?
My GF and I both have the Note 3. Mine is rooted and her's is stock, so I told her to go ahead and install it. Yeah, it's just a security update. I decided to update mine and it fails with the 402 error. Likely because I'm rooted. I need to look into deleting the update and blocking OTA.
BEWARE
Hey so I've got the 900v and it was rooted stock deodexed with a few rom toolbox tweaks. After the updated I was soft bricked - had to revert back to factory with Odin - no fun.

I used titanium backup pro and I froze the software update and it removed the annoying update pop up and stoped the updating from happening.

Thanks for the heads-up. This is the sort of thing I was worried about. Firstly, whether being rooted would mess with the update (perhaps it's just a partial update...?) and secondly, that I'd be able to keep root.
Assuming that your GF is okay with you borrowing her phone (which IS a rather large assumption, for nearly anybody), would you mind trying to see if current rooting methods still work for the new update?

I'm sorry to hear about having to do the full backup and restore... According to what yourself and xm41907 have posted, it apparently checks for full stock. Not sure how you managed to get as far as you did, but at least we know that this update doesn't play nice with rooted phones.
Performance/security improvements are great and all, but there are plenty of Xposed mods and manual tweaks to take care of that-- as long as there's still root.
If there's anybody who doesn't care whether they have root or not, I'd love to hear if current rooting methods still work after the new update, or if this update patches over or current for exploits.
Disclaimer: If you update, you do so at your own risk. However, we'd love to hear more about the details and any root-related insight.
Thanks, everybody!

I can ask if she is ok attempting root. I've been out of it since the Verizon Note 3 first got root capability. This brought me back to it seeing the bootloader can be unlocked and roms put on. I'm jazzed to try AryaMod !
I'm worried about what specifically it means by "Security Updates". I'm still on the OLD unlimited data plan. Because of this, I have to use FoxFi to tether as Verizon doesn't allow it. I'm worried this update may block it.
Can anyone confirm FoxFi still bypasses Verizon's tethering check post update? My Note 3 is totally stock, not rooted, and updated to the last patch(before this one).
Thanks!

For those wondering...
I went ahead and did the update. Foxfi is still working post update
Thanks everyone for your continued feedback about this update. I am still clinging on to my Note 3. This is most certainly my last subsidized phone on VZW with my UDP.
In any event, I was just as shocked as you guys to see the system update notification. I went straight to Tibackup and froze the "System updates" app, which has tamed the notifications.
I did the update 2 days ago on my non-rooted note 3.
Everything is pretty much the same I dont notice any difference really.
Only thing is it seems my battery life has become worse.

Update for everybody with the Note 3 I don't know if it's coincidence or not after updating but when I'm in the YouTube app and have my charger connected to my phone it will say dock is connected really quick and then disappear it will probably do this two or three times a day just wanted to throw this out there and let people know that there might be a bug in the update I will check my USB port and see if it's clean and not damaged

Hey Speed_Phreak - thanks for your post, I think I'm on the right track but still having some trouble. After freezing "Security Policy Updates.apk," "Samsung Updates.apk," and performing a restart, the OTA "security update" notification persists. How did you access "system update.apk?"
