Screen turns randomly off for about 0.1 sec? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I recently noticed that the screen of my i9505 turns off randomly once or twice a day (6h screen on time) for about 0.1 sec. It turns back on automatically. It happens randomly, when I'm texting or using Facebook or whatever. Does anyone knows what this is and why it happens?

Anyone?

If you are using any custom roms then I would suggest to make
a nandroid backup in recovery mode before doing anything else.
After you created a backup Odin flash the stock original firmware
for your phone which can be downloaded from SamMobile.com.
If the phone still blinks on/off randomly then you will know that the
problem is not software related, but some kind of glitch in the phone.
If doing the above solves your problem, then just flash a different and
better custom rom which is designed for your specific phone model......
Good luck.

I have the same problem. Sometimes when I am reading a book the screen turn off randomly. I have original rom and I have never put another one. Anyone knows how to solve it?

Same here! Stock 4.3 ROM, rooted. It just happens once or twice a day. It isn't really annoying or something, it's just that I'm scared that it is part of a bigger problem that will cause my screen to die later.
I've installed a xposed framework exploit yesterdayafternoon, didn't noticed the screen blinking again. It turns off the s-cover view (mode, whatever it's called). Let's hope this will solve the problem, cause my knox warranty is 0x1.....
edit: here's a link to the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2346579 I don't know if it's the same problem as we have, since we have a 9505, but it's worth trying.
If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!

[Q] Random Restarts?

Over the past few days I have noticed that my D800 will randomly restart. It does it in this way every time...I will go to unlock the phone by double tapping and the front LED will turn white as it is supposed to, then it will just hang there with a black screen until the ATT logo shows again and it boots back into my lock screen. Why is this happening? Has it happened to anyone else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Opps i just started a topic on this. I have sprint g2 and i was suffering the same issues. I dont know what i did to fix it. But it seems fine now.

hello, I experienced the same trouble last week. I remove Gmail (as it was proposed in an other thread) and reinstall it. Since then, no more reboot . It seems that one update of Gmail is creating some trouble.
cross the fingers it does not appear again ;0)

[Q] Black screen Issue SM-G900M

I have the S5 since the day it launches. Everything works fine except for one issue I have been battling with.
Sometimes when I unlock my phone with the home button it just turn on the software keys both sides of the button, but the screen remains off. The phone doesn't seems to respond, by any method. It just stays off until it automatically locks again.
Next time, same process, I use the home button to unlock and it works like nothing happens before.
Has anyone face this issue? Is really anoying. My phone is unrooted and with stock firmware. I just try to restart the phone to its factory state but after a while the issue came back. It's not all the times I unlock the phone, but even it is "sometime" it's frustrating.
Any help with be appreciated.

It's a known problem and it seems that the new hon-kong international update is solving that for the SM-G900F..
Do you have some link that explain that this is a known issue? I haven't found anything yet.
Thanks a lot for your reply

[Q] Vibrate as crashing app at pin screen

I got a strange problem. Maybe no big deal but it is annoying When I restart or start my phone I got double vibrate as an app has crashed but no crash popup or anything. If I leave the phone and not enter the sim pin at once the vibrate comes after some seconds. If I am quick and enters the pin directly I can se my launcher and then the vibrate comes. Have made a hard reset and even reflashed it - running the lastest UK software. Any one got some idea what it can be? This is with a clean phone and no apps installed.
I have the same thing. No idea what it is, but it doesn't seem to cause any problems.
Had the double vibrate with both firmwares, can't remember if it was present before I rooted.
EDIT: Just tested a thought. Turns out it's the s-pen sensor.

Thank you, could swear that I hadn't with my first firmware but I could be wrong [emoji1]

Nexus 4 screen freezes randomly, no reaction when touching.

Hi everyone!
So I just had this problem after I woke up yesterday. I googled a lot but only found similiar problems.
Let me tell you what happened chronologically:
After turning the phone on in the morning it started updating apps as if I was doing a firmware update: "updating apps 1 of 135" etc. Note that my nexus was already running on 5.1.1 and had the latest updates installed.
Now it randomly freezes the screen on whatever screen it was before it happens and it won't respond to any touch input. This can also happen when not using the phone, then it will freeze at the lockscreen (the time freezes with it so sometimes i can see at what time it froze). Also, it loses connection with Wi-Fi as i'm using Whatsapp Desktop when i'm on my laptop and it mentions me that my phone is not connected.
The only thing that "fixes" (temporarily) it is a reboot. Now sometimes, on the lockscreen, i can just hold the power button and the pop-up comes in to turn the phone of, which i can somehow just tap on an it responds by turning the phone off. But sometimes (less frequent than the latter mentioned) the pop-up doesn't come in and holding the power button for a few secs will do the trick.
I hope I informed you all enough and my end question is: does any of you know what this is? How i can fix it or what i can do to prevent it or anything as I am hopeless. (my G3 is up for reparation so this is my sisters old phone, i had a nexus 4 myself for 2 years before the G3).
Thanks in advance!!
The best way to test it is by reformat the OS.
I positively think that it will solve the problem.
Since the phone is no longer under warranty, I guess there is no harm to install custom rom on it. They are fast and stable too.
Hope this help. Good luck.

EXACT thing happened to me too. Backup your data and hard reset from recovery. This fixed it for me
Same problem here bro, but neither custom roms or factory reset helps.... Is there anyone who has successfully solved the problem ?

Then it's time to change the screen or phone. Looks like it is a hardware issue.

HELP little red sensor(?) always on next to front camera idk why

Hello all!
Yesterday I was 9gagging in my bed, and I noticed that little led started constantly lighting. Tried 2-3x to reboot but nothing happened, after the startup it started to light again... https://imgur.com/a/m4FK9lC You can see it in the picture.
Other question:
My screen rotation is also bugged. Tried to fix that with those reboots, but again nothing happened. I can not rotate my phone. (Only youtube fullscreen rotates the image, anything else stays horizontal)
Maybe its time for a ROM? The system starting to fall apart, had numerous random reboots etc. But I am afraid that with the ROM, a I will have a lot of other problems, like bluetooth and wifi not working together, camera is gonna be ****ty without LG's app.
What should i do?

That is the proximity sensor, and it is a normal behavior, otherwise it couldn't do its job
Yeah i know, but it should not light 24/7 and it did not light 24/7 before. Its a weird bug. And its really annoying... Especially at night...
Have you tried factory reset? Ib know it's the easy answer but I think it's the best in your case.
Anyway, it seems like a hardware issue, so if it persists after factory reset, I would send the phone to repair (i hope is still under warranty)

Yes it does. It turns off AOD in your pocket, raise-to-pick-up, screen off when in call.
There are a lot of actions connected to this sensor.
Btw, mine is also on all the time.

Just tried factory reset now for the rotation bug, it looks like I somehow totally broke it. I used pixel live wallpapers, especially the Zion national park one which used the accelerometer constantly. Tried a numerous kind of calibration apps, and all of them failed.
Totally hopeless now, i have to use a ****ty app to rotate my screen every time :/
