This is a well known problem with Defy after CM9. It is due to the locked bootloader and old camera libs.

The camera problem exists for CM9 and above. The camera quality will be best in gingerbread based ROMs.

then please guide me to rollback my defy plus CM10 to gingerbread rom??

One more thing. Video recording, too, has noticeable decrease in quality along with decrease in frame rate. But it's quite okay to use. A 720p patch is also available for stock GB based ROMs and lately in CM10 and above too, but the quality is the best in GB ROMs.

if any app is quite better to take good pictures in CM10

720p record on defy +

hi im gonna buy a defy + and i need to know if defy + with CM9 rom or CM7.2 supports 720p video!
and the other is ... what's the best rom of CM9? quarx , epsylon , jordan?
thank you for you patience!
defy/defy+ doesn't support 720p recording except on MS2GINGER . there will be stable ICS ROM likely in a month,or you can try the nightlies.

Yes, MS2Ginger allows 720p recording but it's useless because of low framerate ~15fps.
Best balance between high enough resolution (848X480) and decent framerate (24fps) is in WIUI ROM by Wajk.

Well I've been a long time MIUI user so didn't knew that!
But anyway the point is, framerate is more important than resolution for a decent video experience.

You can get 720p only on Moto ROMS like the following:
Walter79's MS2GINGER
Prasanna modified blur ROM
I was on base 1321-asiaretail and both these ROMs worked well.
As far as the usability of 720p of these ROMs I am not so sure because I dont use it and have not compared it with my digicam.

Virtuous infinity1.3.00 alpha 1 kernel version is 3.0

The Changelog says, the Camera is not working on some devices. But thank God. It's a huge step
It's working very well on my dhd. I think turning of Sound is only required for using 720p Video recording but does not affect camera.

You have to wait for an official fix, it's a kernel related problem due to the different camera chip that some dhd have.
Sent from Jellytime!
It's very impressive for an alpha, I was happy the see the camera working and video in 720p(without audio). However at times the camera app would refuse to launch and I would have to reboot for it to work. Also I noticed my battery drained a lot faster with this ROM, is it sense related or could this be improved?
Except for video perfectly on my inspire Everything works

You have a OmniVision camera. It does not work with actual kernel.

Nope, turning sound off is required for recording a video irrespective of the resolution. I have it installed on my DHD.

best full screen camera app

Hi there.
after trying a rom from RSK , I then hade liked CM10.1 rom, but was disappointed that the camera app was nowhere near as good.
so I was wondering if anybody could tell me the best full screen camera app??
I'm using "Camera ICS" from Google play. Works fine with the CM 10.1 roms.

Sandvold's ICS has a very nice camera, nice contrast and saturation values. I downloaded his ROM, then extracted the camera app and replaced it wid VJ's CM10 camera. Works fine for me. you've got to replace the whole gallery app.

Do you have a link to the Sandvold's ICS ROM? I'm very happy with the VJ's CM10.1 (v1.0) ROM beside the stock camera app.
Thanks in advance!

same here. im using VJ's CM10.1, everything ok besides the camera, so a good and free camera would be great.

Here it is.... This is not by me, all credit goes to sandvold and whoever helped him in making that rom...
I use Camera zoom fx, if you still need it...
Will it work on CM 7.2?
And if so, can I just paste it with root ecplorer or do I have to unpack the Roman and flash it?
Thank you in advance!

My N4 doesn't have that auto focus ring like in camera mode or if i tap a subject on video ,. nor if i get closer to the subject. Maybe it's fixed focused in video mode. sigh...

In stock rom AF in video works. You cannot touch focus(it takes a photo instead which I can't seem to disable). But it definitely works as though in stock rom. Don't know about CM

I feel like it only crashes on chroma, never had an issue on other roms.
It crashed a lot on chroma for me, too. No problems on stock.

It usually crashed for me when I'd take a bunch of pictures in a row. I'm glad it works for the rest of you. Chroma is a great ROM.
It definitely crash when you take pics in HDR mode in quick succession.

Yes it does seem to be ROM dependent. No HDR+ FC's on LightROM or pure stock either. So the camera app can't really be blamed. Kind of reminds me of the Google Play Services FC problem that plagued some ROMs for a couple of weeks but never happened on stock.
