[Q] how to block notification from certain apps - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i'm having a nexus 4 with android 4.3 stock rom, rooted and installed xposed framework. is there any way or app to block certain apps from displaying notification. Apps like BBM, Twilight have an always persisting notification which i can't dismiss. Even after going to App Info and unchecking the Show Notification option these notifications come up again.
TIA,
Vignesh

Download Gravity Box from within Xposed framework(Under Downloads). After you've downloaded the module, go under "Statusbar Tweaks ", when you scroll down you'll see "ongoing notification blocker. " You'll be able to pick and choose which notifications are displayed. You have to reboot in order for the changes to take effect.

Thanks. That worked like a charm.

Go to Settings>Apps
Then look for the app and click on it, below the name you will see a checkbox "show notifications". Unckek-it.

It is quite simple but has each page has different menu settings it is easily overlooked.
Toggle to the chats page. Then hit the menu button bottom left. Then settings.
Go into notifications and move down to popup notification. Check always show popup.
Notifications now show even when phone sleeps.

Is there any way to get viper mod or lmt launcher to stay out of notification bar

Every time I restart the phone they come back and I go to app info and they are unchecked. So I have to check them on then off again..

You can install xposed framework and the notify clean module to get rid of them. That's what I use along with a lot of other people.
So I'm not doing anything wrong just have to use a work around app. Thanks

For LMT, you can also long press on the notification in the notification panel and select app info - when the LMT info page pops up, uncheck notifications or if it is not checked, check it and then uncheck it and you will get a popup saying you won't get notifications - click ok and close. You do have to do this everytime you reboot your device tho.
download 'notificationsoff' from the play store. icon is a green square with some lines in it...just in case u have issues finding it. lets u turn off notifications for any apps u chose whether they r user apps or system.

Sound Recorder

On my Nexus 4, there is stock app called "Sound Recorder" that I used to be able to enable/disable from app settings. There is no uninstall option. When enabled, it would add an icon to the app drawer and when disabled the icon would go away. Recently I tried enabling it and the icon did not show up in the app drawer. I've tried doing this several times and restarting as well. I'm rooted on stock 4.4.2. I'd like to get this app enabled again w/an icon. Anyone have any thoughts.

I believe its a system app so I'm not sure how to reinstall it. I couldn't find it on Google Play.

System UI crashing

Hey guys, I tried to disable the on screen buttons by adding the qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 flag to build.prop but after restarting System UI just crashes constantly. Is there something I'm missing?
I downgraded from 4.4 to 4.2.2 if that makes any difference.
No one knows anything? Can someone at least help me to restore build.prop as adb isn't connecting to the device and the ridiculous error box opens every second and doesn't allow me to do anything. Absolutely asinine the way Google designed this crap.
/edit
Nevermind, usb debugging disabled itself for some reason. I then had to remount /system/ as rw. Still, no one has come across this before?
Undo what you did and download the Xposed framework and the gravitybox module, than profit

Gravity box can add expanded desktop to power menu, so you can toggle it on or off. (The nav bar)
I keep it off to use LMT ...but if I need the navigation bar back...its just a power button and click away.

Android Lollipop App Based Notification in Lock Screen

Hi, I am not sure whether there is a solution to this question so far, but as far as I tried to google it, I cannot find a work around.
I have updated to Lollipop 5.0 recently and the notifications in lock screen are impressive. However, I have some persistent app such as Apex Launcher, Profile Scheduler+ that will always run in the background. Some apps have an option to hide lock screen notification but not many have this options (at least those app that i used do not have).
One of the most annoying situation is during my running at night, where I have:-
1. Location Set by GPS (System UI)
2. Notification Status by GPS Status
3. Notification Status by Runtastic
4. Internet Speed Meter Lite (This app has a function to hide itself in lock screen, but sometimes it doesn't work....)
5. Profile Scheduler+ (persistent app)
6. Plus some whatsapp notification...
where i only want to have 1, 3, 6 in the lock screen.....
Is there any "app based notification chooser" in the field? That you can select what app can display notification in the lock screen.
Thanks in advance.
I'm looking for a solution to same issue on my Moto G 1st Gen (Lollipop 5.1)

Hmm, I gotta try this My Android Tools app then, cause since moving to Lollipop this issue has made me crazy! However I mind how the clock and date font becomes small (tiny in fact) when there are other notifications in lock screen more than the number of notifications on LS. Even if those notifications had to be persistent there was absolutely no meaning for the clock and date fonts to go small!

Thanks for your help. It seems we need to wait android or Samsung to provide us this option. I will look into 3rd party lockscreen
You can block an app's notifications altogether in settings.
It would be fairly simple to make an app or script that would enable/disable that, on a timer or something.
To remove certain notifications from just the lock screen, though, would either require modding the desired apps individually, or some rather significant mods to SystemUI.
