Computer unable to recognize Nexus 4 when attempting to root - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried about everything, in terms of uninstalling drivers, rebooting the computer, trying X and Y driver to no avail. I used the root toolkit to uninstall my previous SII drivers in case that was the problem, but still cant see it.
'
when running the root toolkit full driver configuration, I keep getting the message
turn USB debugging on (it's on)
use the recommended cable (using the stock cable)
use usb 2.0 ports (doing that)
uncheck MTP in usb debugging (dont have that option
What else can I try? I did not have this much trouble rooting my SII a year ago.
Thanks
Dustin

try not using a root toolkit

Can your computer see the phone in MTP or PTP mode?

Uninstall the driver for your Nexus while connected as USB Debugging and reinstall it with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502
If you are using Windows 8, disable driver signature first.

why dont you root via fast boot?

[FIXED] PTP works, MTP doesn't work. Why?

So I got another Nexus 4 for my sister. My computer didn't have a Nexus 4 toolkit, so I thought I didn't install any drivers on my comp, so I downloaded Nexus 4 Toolkit and installed the drivers. I connect her phone to my comp. It installs the adb driver and says device is ready. I go to My Computers and I don't see it there. I uncheck MTP. Computer proceeds to try and install and random driver and said it failed. I check PTP. Computer successfully installed driver and ADB works. ADB doesn't work for MTP.
So I uninstalled all the drivers thru device manager and through Wug's toolkit. I rebooted my computer. I reinstalled all the drivers. I connect my sister's phone. Same issue. I connect my phone. Same issue.
I go install the drivers again on another computer in my house that guarantee has no drivers before. Same problem arises. I tried my phone too, and it doesn't work. I am not running stock. I am running SpeedX ROM.
Help please?
[THE FIX]
1. Download Wug's toolkit
2. Use his Full Driver Installation guide to uninstall all drivers.
3. Install PdaNet Drivers, following the instructions given (Pick LG instead of "others")
4. After installation, turn off usb debugging, and open device managers.
5. Connect phone, making sure it's in MTP mode.
6. Observe in device managers that something popped up (Should be something something subbranch Nexus 4 with a yellow triangle)
7. Right click> Update driver
8. Browse my computer for driver software
9. Let me pick from device on computer
10. Pick the MTP USB Device
11. Let it install.
12 Done!

Windows 8.1 x64

I am having a problem finding drivers for Nexus 4.
When i connect my Nexus 4 with MTP selected it works fine and i can access the usb storage. But when i enable 'USB Debugging' the device its shows this error "USB Device not recognized"
Cannot use fastboot.
Tried Wug's Toolkit method for driver installation but no luck.
Please help!

I used Wug's toolkit, had to try a few times until I finally got it right:
Follow the steps in the toolkit to uninstall any adb drivers and remove any instances of the device from the device manager
connect the phone in mtp mode and ptp mode after that, both times with usb debugging OFF, let windows figure those drivers out so you can transfers files without any trouble
disconnect the phone and install the universal drivers (option 1 in the toolkit)
turn off both mtp and ptp, then connect the phone with usb debugging ON. This is what might be causing trouble, if you turn usb debugging on along with mtp, windows thinks it's yet another device, for a total of 5 possibilities (mtp only, ptp only, debugging only, mtp+debugging and ptp+debugging)
follow the instructions in the toolkit to select the proper driver for the nexus 4 with only usb debugging on (I set mine to "google nexus 4 adb interface"). Test the drivers and repeat this step for fastboot in case the proper driver isn't selected already (google nexus 4 bootloader interface)
After doing this I didn't have any trouble using adb or transferring files. The one thing I recommend is to always keep only one mode on at a time while connecting to the pc, either mtp/ptp or USB debugging
I don't know if anyone has a better/more streamlined solution, but this one has worked for me, so I don't intend to mess with it

[Q] MTP Mode Problem

After trying to Sideload the 4.4 Update onto my Wifi Nexus 7 (2012) I'm unable to connect to my Computer in MTP Mode & can only connect in PTP Mode which is far more limited than MTP Mode. I did a Factory Reset & updated to 4.4 OTA, but I'm now still unable to connect in MTP Mode, when I use MTP Mode I get a Google Nexus 7 ADB Interface in Device Manager with Manufacturer ID of ClockworkMod has anyone got any clues how to get MTP Mode working?
P.S. I'm unrooted and have no idea how the ClockworkMod ADB Driver got installed and haven't got a clue how to permanently remove it.

Look in your PC's Control Panel - do you see Portable Devices (it's most likely missing or not showing up)
Folks over at Nexus 5 (I owned both devices) are running into similar problems - long story short, it's corrupted and/or missing usb devices drivers. Simplistic solution, use the computer (assuming you are running Windows 7 or Vista and not Linux) SYSTEM RESTORE feature & roll back to last few days, it should be a successful effort & then reboot. Reconnect your device, let it sit & recognize the device, install drivers, etc. - do this with USB debugging OFF first, and when it is done - enable USB debugging, let it finish.
Now, reboot PC again to be sure, and connect. usb cable again - give it 3 to 5 seconds, your Auto Play should be popping up with prompt to open folders/files, etc.
Check your CP again, you should now see Portable Devices part of the hardware, and Google Nexus 4 (yes, that's what is on mine)
Let me know if this solution works for you - the alternative is to uninstall all usb drivers, reboot, install, etc. etc. Please post your results if you choose to follow this dummy's approach, thanks.

TMobile G2 cant connect to PC over wire

So, I cant seem to be able to connect my G2 to the PC via USB cable. I get "usb device not recognized" error, and when looking for the device via LGPC Suite, it says driver not installed and attempts to re-install the driver to no avail. Im using Win 7 64 bit. Here's what Ive done to attempt to fix it:
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the driver and LGPC Suite in my normal user account and in admin admin account.
Redownloaded both driver and LGPC Suite and doing the above.
Tried 3 different USB cables.
Tried 2 different USB ports.
Yes, Im changing the connection options on the phone from MTP and LG Software.
Phone charges normally over USB.
I *can* however connect to LGPC Suite via wifi successfully.
Any ideas? Im stumped.

Sorry for bumping old thread, but have you found a solution? I found my self in exactly same situation as you describe.
Phone is in LG Software mode
LG Suite can find the phone over Wi-fi, other modes work through USB.
Tried on two different computers, with win7/win8 respectively.
Stock EU ROM, just bought it.
Tried different USB ports.
Yet PC doesn't recognize it :/
EDIT: Never mind, solved it by following the following instructions in another thread:

You must be on 64 bit windows. Not even on 64bit, Still try this...
1) Uninstall LG Drivers, LG PC Suite and anything you see named LG. Restart PC.
2) Install latest LG Driver from this post (step 4)
3) Install Optional MTP Driver from this post (step 4)
4) Open Windows Device Manager (just to watch whats happening.)
5) Disconnect Internet (To avoid stupid online WDM drivers)
6) Connect phone with Usb and let drivers install automatically. Give it some time to install drivers keeping watch on Device Manager window.
7) Keep changing USB connect modes to all modes one-by-one on Phone and let drivers install.
You should see MTP drivers installed now. If this does not help, cant think of anything else. If this works, press THANKS button
EDIT: Connect USB at backside of pc, directly to USB on pc motherboard.

Phone won't connect to PC after Unlocking via NRT

Hello,
today I tried to root my phone with Nexus Root Toolkit. The first step was to unlock the phone so I could root it. After I unlocked it I can't get the phone to connect to the PC. I've tried uninstalling the drivers(with USBDeview also), restarting the computer, different cables, different ports, USB debugging on/off, MPT/Camera, restoring to factory settings. Nothing works. The only time the phone registers in the Device Manager is when I put MPT with USB debugging, and I get an exclamation mark next the Nexus 4 device. Trying to update the drivers results in no drivers found. Downloading the drivers manually doesn't work either. What I find especially troubling is that when I connect the phone without USB debugging the phone doesn't even react to the connection. There is nothing in the status bar. The phone is charging tho.
edit: I've now tried 2 different computers (running Win 8.1, and 7), and it's the same problem, so I'm pretty sure the phone is the problem. Is there anything I can do from here?
Since I can't connect to the PC is there a way I can do something 'OTA' to fix it? Will I be eligible to update to 5.0 OTA since my phone is unlocked(stock ROM tho)?
edit2: I've now locked the bootloader, but the issue persists.
edit3: Uninstalled NRT, and the drivers it provides, and installed Google USB Drivers over the SDK Manager. I now have two devices: one Nexus 4, one Unknown Device, both with exclamation marks next to them. I think this double entry could be due to some remaining driver somewhere. Gonna try to remove every Nexus driver I can find, and then try with Google USB Drivers again. Fingers crossed.
edit4: Tried naked drivers. No luck...
Appreciate the input!
