[Q] Change Horrible Stock Arabic Font on Note 3 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello folks, my first post here so bear with me.
Is it possible to change the default/stock Arabic font that comes with the Note 3? I moved over to the Note from an iPhone 4S and the Note totally outdoes the iPhone - apart from the Arabic font. I can't stand the Arabic font on the Note. Is it possible to change it without changing the English font?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Of course you can, you have to be rooted though, all you need is to
1- pick any font you like (not all arabic fonts work well on JB 4.3)
2- rename it to GS45_Arab_AndroidOS
3- copy the new font to your SD Card
4- using any root explorer, navigate to root/system/fonts, find the font named GS45_Arab_AndroidOS and replace it with the one on your SD Card
5- restart your phone and you are done
It is highly recommended to back up the old font in case you wanted to get it back.

Thank you for your reply.
But I think I need to make clear that I am an absolute beginner with this phone, I just moved over from having an iPhone and am loving the Note, but I have no idea what a root explorer thingy is or anything of the sort?
I was able to download a different Arabic font and it was fine but the problem is that when I choose it, it also changes the English font to something I don't like, so that's no good. I want to change the stock Arabic font and still be able to choose whatever font I want for English, does that make sense? I think I've become too fussy since moving over from the iPhone.
So how do I go about doing this? What root program am I supposed to use? I heard that affects the warranty but I'm not fussed about that since I can't remember the last time I ever used a warranty for anything. How does rooting affect the phone though, will it still update ok etc?
Apologies for all the questions.

Rooting will give you full control over your device, it is something like jailbreaking for ios, for more information, search xda forums about how to root your galaxy note, there are more than satisfying how tos, hope you luck.

Ok, will do.
But just a question about the Arabic font thing, like I said at the moment when I choose an English font it will force the Arabic stock font to be used, and if I choose one of the Arabic fonts which I just downloaded it will force an English font to be used which I don't like. Is it not possible to choose an Arabic font and a different English one without having to go through rooting or do I have no choice but to root?

I went through this dilemma too and couldn't find a solution untill I rooted my device, however, you can keep searching for a font app that does what you want, or take the much shorter way and root ur device.

Oh man, looks like it's gonna have to be a root then, I hope I don't end up bricking my phone.
Since you've been through the same dilemma, could you tell me which Arabic fonts you're using? What are the best ones out there?

I tried a lot of fonts, unfortunately most of them do not go along with all the apps you get on your phone, some fonts are great but they show disconnected letters in certain apps (feedly, gmail for example), recently I am using a font called winsoft, it looks good and very readable. And most of all it's compatible with all the apps I have on my device.
Another one is yaqoot.

Thank you. Where can I find these fonts?

I don't think I'm going to be able to root it, cause all of the instructions I see are for Note 3 models that are in the States, like Verizon ones etc., I bought mine in Saudi and it has a different model number etc. O well.

Can't remeber exactly where I got them from, just dig in for the names in google and I'm sure you'll find them.
Regarding the root process, just go to settings, under general tab go to about device and find your device's model number and search for a root acording to it,
I believe your model number is SM-N900, just like mine

I stated that the problem is that when I use these apps they will change the Arabic font successfully but at the same time they change the English font to a crappy one, so I go from having a crap Arabic font to a nice one but then end up with a crap English font since it forces the English font to change too. I need to change the Arabic font only without altering the English font.

Ok, I managed to install custom fonts on my phone.
Here's how to:
1) Install the app iFont (from the google Play Store)
2) Run the app (it should create a folder on your files) and then close it
3) Place your custom font .apk file on the root of that folder
4) Run iFont again, select the "Local" tab. Your font should be there. Select it and tap "Set".
The app will require you to reboot your phone. When you do, it's done.

Generally you need to have root access and then you can drop any fonts you want to have available on the phone in the /system/fonts folder

Every font I've tried to install on my Galaxy S 4 hasn't work. Please let us know if anyone has a solution!!
So I've started a conversation with Samsung Support about the issue. They said they are going to research it and get back to me soon. It took forever for them to understand what I was trying to say! I'll keep you guys posted on any new info they give me. Makes no sense why it was so effortless with the GS3 and Note 2, but it gives us a problem on the S4!

Just a quick update guys, i did install some fonts from samsung apps and guess what it can be used without any font not available issues?
Samsung took out the bookmark sync options, now fonts also works only from samsung apps store. Are they forcing us to use their app store rather than google play?

I aware iFont works ... but the resources suck up a lot of memory ... anyone know what is the actual issue on free flipfont not working on 4.3 ?
You can find the font Switcher for 4.2+ devices here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monotype.android.font.pack.switcher
In order to set the font you must first set your phone's font to one of the pre-installed fonts other than the default font. Then try using the Switcher to set the font.
The other option you have is to try some of our other fonts that are compatible with 4.2.2
Please use the button in the Switcher app to find these apps. *Here are a few examples:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monotype.android.font.pack.handsome
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monotype.android.font.pack.simple
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monotype.android.font.pack.scroll
Finf compatible fonts via font switcher then select font via system font selector
Let me know if it works.

On my s3 with stock rom (this does not work with cm), i am able to change the font.
Try this and let me know:
1. Use a root explorer (remember to enable read and write)
2. Copy https://www.dropbox.com/s/fpc6zxd2wiqci8o/DroidSansFallback.ttf
3. to device/ system/ fonts
4. Reboot and enjoy
Thats right, i didnt say backup first. I dont wanna insult anyones intelligence

[Q] New OTA Keyboard

Soooooooo. I downloaded the new OTA for my verizon note 3. I think the verizon cloud is kind of cool considering I've accidentally deleted my camera folder twice (oops) However, one thing I don't like is the change in color in the keyboard. It isn't white/grey anymore and it depresses me. I want the old keyboard back. Is there any way to get it back?
Find one from one of the Roms out there that still have the white keyboard and install it. You may have to move to system/app which ota??? Mj7, mi9?, something new?

I would assume you could pull the apk out of the stock rooted mj7 rom. just use 7zip to pull apk out. I would download a free keyboard off the playstore as a backup in case for some reason it doesn't work, but no reason it shouldn't.

I like the new (old old) dark theme but i use Swiftkey anyway. I don't like that the Samsung Keyboard doesn't allow to modify the press and hold delay.
I love that Swiftkey allows a quick right or left drag on the period key to get exclamation or question mark without having to wait for press and hold.

Thanks but I like the theme I have now so I will pass.
360 dpi is what I would like my contacts to be and 480 dpi for the dialpad.
Sadly that can't be if I want to keep this lovely theme so I am gonna have to go with 480 for both contacts and dialpad.
I tried to bribe the theme developer to make multi dpi but sadly money was not his motivation and apparently no price can change his mind

Just joking, your theme looks nice.
I got mine from a rom wich had multi dpi stock apps, so obviously i can't help you mod it.
3 options here :
1) there are tutorials how to make apps multi dpi
2) if you can afford to make a small donation, find some other rom developer, themer,... and ask him to do it (I remember someone from the S2 days, MyLifeRocks10, good guy, he's all about dpi and more)
3) stick with what you got, doesn't look bad, sure it will bother you, but you'll get used to it
Good luck.
