Hy. Today I want to update my MI8 on my S4 via Odin to MJ5. But after I connected my phone via USB cable on the "Phone" drive there was only 1 folder called Samsung (contain the Music/Over the Horizon.mp3) and that is all. Change to PTP/MTP gave the same results.
I have no KIES/KIES 3 on my laptop. But on my phone I can access my all folder no matter where they are.
So what is the problem? How can I fix it?

Im using Windows 8, and my problem is, that I conect the N4 in USB port and when im trying to transfer files to the internal memory, the device stop responding and there is no way to fking pass the files!!! The same sh%%^t happends with my old galaxy nexus.
I changed my pc, so, shoul be the phone....
Anyone knows what I can do??!

Use Airdroid instead. Copy files from PC to phone over Wi-Fi.
EDIT: Is USB Debugging enabled? I used to have the odd issue with file copy over USB while I had it enabled. Disabling it worked for me (Galaxy Nexus).

I've connected my device to my laptop via USB cable that was supplied. so I've been using my device a while and copied music on and off it etc.
The past few days when I try to copy music or pictures to and from my device i get a error messages. I get the message a device attached to system is not functioning.
when i open the device folder under explorer i can only see folders and when i open the folders it says 0 items in the folder. but if I go in on my device there are files in the selected folder.
now I've searched the web from left to right and only get solutions for the note II mobile device that has a USB mass storage function, which the galaxy note 8.0 does not have.
I've downloaded Kies and USB drivers and it still did not resolve my issue.
i have a HP Probook 4540s running windows 8. I'm not very good with these kind of stuff at all.
any help would be greatly appreciated
For me that happens when there a problem with driver or kies .. I'd recommend reinstalling

I’m having trouble with my GalaxyS4, I can’t see my phone in windows explorer, I have tried 3 different PC’s,, when connect via USB I get the message on the phone saying ‘’connected as media device’’ but my PC does not see it, I was having trouble for the past few weeks where my phone would connect to the PC but during file transfer the PC would lose connection to the phone, I have deleted drivers and re-installed them on 2 of the PC’s Any Ideas ?

Try installing samsung kies and trying...it usually works...if you are rooted...there are apps to mount your sd card on the pc as a usb device. ..try that too...this issie happened to a friend....he did nothing...and one day it automatically started working....idk why though...hope this helps

On my old phone, I had an option to set by default only charge the phone when connected to the pc. And if i wanted to open the files of my sd card, I had to unlock the screen of my phone and choose "use as a device", and then my files was showed on my pc.
Now with the S4 anybody can take my phone and connect it on a computer and have access to all my files. I want to change that.

To preempt: I have already tried connecting it to a computer. I can't get to the com.providers.telephony (or whatever it's called) via windows explorer. It isn't present. I also have tried the adb stuff, but I didn't set the password or whatever that you need to do that.
The phone is rooted and it has TWRP on it. Relatively sure it had android 4.2.2 on it. I was able to pull the texts via Kies but it saves them in a weird format that I can't view in windows. My Galaxy Nexus isn't supported by Kies either.
The screen is black. It doesn't come on at all.
Any ideas? Could maybe editing the build.prop to make Kies think it's an S4 work to restore the texts that way?
try googling the file format with which kies gave you the files
