Galaxy S4 Call Distortion Problem - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I just switched out my GS4 proximity sensor cause it wasnt working but I think I might messed up the mic or something cause when im in a call sometimes while in the call it sound like raspy or like auto tune I was wondering did i mess something up and what I should do to fix it.Also,it seems that even after i put in the new proximity sensor my air gestures still arent working could it be blocked or something cause my screen was cracked but the LCD was perfect and got someone to replace it but after he replaced it my air gestures just stopped working could it be when he replaced the screen he b locked the sensor from being read should i replace the screen again what should I do.I thought the proximity sensor was the sensor that controlled the air gestures too.And when i use *#0*# under sensor the proximity sensor reads
Proximity 1.0
TSP Color ID 1.0
ADC 228(228,228,229) and it changes to 230,250,255 Please Help I really want to get this fix or imma just sell it.

Proximity Sensor- WORKAROUND Please Test

Hi all,
I've installed TouchLockPro as suggested at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5254295#post5254295
Initial testing seems to prove that it has fixed the problem, well it's a workaround.
It senses (via the G sensor) if the phone is held upright during a call and turns the screen off- no need to rely on the poor proximity sensor.
Please test and let me know how you get on.
There doesn't seem to be any config- just install and it works.
If your proximity sensor does not work then return the device. I have no problems with it at all. Only think I would say is for it to also switch things on/off when phone not in use.
I used to have problems with the proximity sensor but it's been working perfectly since I upgraded to 1.48.
FYI- The proximity sensor does work on my phone. It just proves to be intermittent at sensing- this has been documented by other users.
The main problem is that it doesn't work very well next to hair. So I don't have any problems with the proximity sensor, but my wife (with long hair) does.
proximity sensor works fine for me as long as I don't use the keypad during a call; once i enter anything during a call (like calling card number, extensions etc) the proximity sensor stops working.
I think this bug doesn't show up when using the wired headset, have to confirm this though.
After two weeks testing I found out that the original screen protector with the two holes for the sensor makes the problems!!!
thake the screen protector out or cut it and the proximity sensor will work perfect.

[Q] Proximity sensor

Hi,
How proximity sensor should work in X10?
Apparently mine doesn't work.
While I talk screen is not blank and I wondering how to enable or adjust proximity sensor to disable touch screen during conversation.
Any ideas?
Cheers!
edit: never mind, i found solution forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736654

[HW] Fixing a proximity sensor

I found this topic about the design flaw:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2129140&highlight=proximity
I've seen it myself, when I was reassembling my phone. Hardware design for that particular part is absolutely HORRIBLE.
It happened after changing the motherboard on my phone. In-call screen turns off immediately and doesn't turn on until the call ends.
Proximity sensor seems to work OK when it is out of its place on the phone, but after placing it back, the path is blocked somehow.
I got a spare part to interchange, but it behaves the exact same way the previous did.
There is a rubber gasket, it fits nicely and holds sensors in place, but it might block the sensor. Without the rubber gasket, sensors are not fixed in place and they work inconsistently.
I am curious, if it is a special way it is assembled, or I am a dumb ass can't figure out how to place it properly.
Please help, otherwise it would be great to know, if there is a way to turn it off in software. Thanks.
bump
Tasker can turn off your proximity sensor while on call.. I think some custom roms also have that feature..
Would be great.
u can use proximity disabler
i lost the rubber thing when i changed the screen!!
i followed these two methods
i used proximity disabler from xposed framework to stop the proximity sensor
you can get that from
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mrchandler.disableprox
or follow this tutorial
or
i fixed that using a small cardboard an made two holes exactly infront of the sensor
and that fixed my proximity sensor for my nexus 4 and even made a video for the same you can check that at

Disabling the proximity sensor

Got my screen replaced at a local shop after it cracked.
But now the proximity sensor is not working properly as it always detects that it is covered.
Proximity testing apps show that the sensor always shows the value as 0.0 (covered).
can someone help me on how to disable the proximity sensor completely as i face black screen during calls and can't record/hang-up/put on speaker....
I'm rooted and running cosmic os 7.1.1 so xposed is not a solution
Need help disabling it.

insensitive proximity sensor

I've had this issue since I got the device at popup in London on 21st July
The proximity sensor only seems to register if skin is actually pressing against the glass where the sensor sits which is bad because unless the top of my ear is in exactly the right place the screen stays on during calls meaning random key presses.
I'm thinking now this is a hardware issue, don't really want to RMA if I can help it.
Does anyone know any way to tweak the sensitivity of the sensor with a setting /line of code etc?
Mate, that does seem like a RMA.
I have no trouble with the proximity sensor. Works fine without touching the glass .
Know that's not what you want to hear but better to get it fixed now instead of investing a few days and still having to RMA....
Extra couple of days suffering and longer to wait return....
