[Q] Halo support on Omni? - Omni Q&A

While the multi window feature sounds fantastic, are there any plans for Halo support? While they are similar Halo is excellent if you want to quickly launch an app such as a music player and change a playlist for example.

Right now the project's focus is to get as many devices running on Omni as possible. The inclusion of Halo has not been discussed but I'm sure it will eventually come up.

The other option would be the Xposed Halo module. [link]

Honestly i care more about device support than some halo from another team's build.
Omni need to stand up first before it go after other cherry picks is my view on that

No, please..not halo. This is not so useful mod.
There are lot of roms with halo and same features..
For the ones who want halo or something like.that, there are floating app and an exposed module
.
Hope Omni will be something new, different and unique

I personally feel Halo is redundant with working multiwindow, and also is VERY likely to conflict with multiwindow leading to a maintenance nightmare.

Exactly, You don't need Halo with multiwindow
Almost all roms have Halo, except Cyano and Purity by DarioF ...
I think that an Omni ROM with Halo or other features from other ROMs will be only a new ROM and nothing else
I'm stock now, just because all ROMs have the same features
The question is:
Why should I choose a ROM with the same (most) features of the others?
Hope Omni will have only useful mods and that will bring us more & new brilliant features

can't agree more...omni picks up halo it just becomes any regular rom out there. I want to flash different roms for different things. If i am on cyno i should feel like i am on cyano, if i am on aokp i should feel like i am on aokp...if i am on omni i should feel like i am on omni. If i want halo i will download paranoid

I only use halo so I know I have a notification when I'm using PIE. Hopefully something new will come to Omni to help us with that .

Halo can be installed via play store right? Why bother including it if so? This ROM needs to stand alone IMO

I really hope you don't integrate HALO....

We all haz the Awesome Multi-windoz but regardless I have ported HALO to omni

No you can't download halo from gpl. Devs have to cherry pick it (or one could use the xposed version)

Yes I did I was under the impression that it functioned about the same. Not a fan of halo really but understand that if it's missing functionality compared to a baked in version users might want that. Still don't understand why Omni would want to cherry pick things if they want to be original. But I am the minority in this it seems so sorry guys for being an ass

Thank you very much for your work,
Ill try this next weekend.
Since Paranoid didn't work for my device any more and I think Omni has higher performance, I'll try it.
If it works for me- It doesn't matter whether I's included or not - build it yourself with all you want or don't want

Probably not, S-Pen is not specificaly android but Samsung software.
You can track progress here.
The builds have started, they're at letter E at the moment (it's going alphabetical).
The build should be up in about 3-4 hours.
Also don't get your hopes up. Everything is working means that the camera is still lagging when switching back to front, probably crashes on 1st photo with flash.
As usual in CM there's no FM radio, no HDMI out and battery life will probably suck compared to a stock rom. Yay for CM10 anyway. I'm not going to bother after what I experienced on my I9100 and I9300.
I'll post a link to the build when it's done.

There are however alternatives for the S-Pen in Google Play for drawing, taking notes etc.

So its going to be as good if not better than imilkas unofficial, awesome
I'm finding it fast, stable and almost buttery smooth, not to concerned with camera at this early stage.
HDMI, bah.
FM radio, bah.
Battery life for me is great, I get 1.5 days

Well the S-Pen is also really handy to use with gestures like in Paranandroid, So if they can add something like that, that would be really nice.

Don't count on it. Consider the S-Pen functionality gone as well as multi window support.
You will get a plain CM / AOSP experience. No extra apps, just basic stuff.
Also the camera extra functions will be gone, only basic photo/video recording will work.
I see some builds have failed already from today, I wonder if the N7100 will fail as well. We have to wait and see.
i rather cm add aptx support and multi window than spen features

It's the same version for all devices. As you can see in the bbqlog, there isn't a notice of a new android version. It will be another 4.1.2 nightly .zip which you have to flash and then flash gapps 4.1.2 afterwards (or the buggy 4.2 apps if you prefer those).
We will have to wait a bit until the CM team get up to speed with the new 4.2 sources which have been released only yesterday (hence yesterday's "stable" builds and code freeze for version 10.0.0). Since 4.2 is still called Jelly Bean, and is still 4.x then CM will change version number to 10.1.x, I think since the team consists of experts of the matter we can expect 4.2 builds to come fairly quick. The most important thing is to setup the device tree with blobs and proprietary stuff which nebkat already did! Big props to you!
I9300 is building now, if it doesn't fail I think we're good to go, since N7100 shares lots of dependancies and files with it.

Should be available here within 30 minutes.

What version of gapps is needed ?
I've noticed in the past few days most of my apps I downloaded, including Google apps like google + are saying that they are not compatible on my device.

OK guys, one of the devs over in the atrix2 forum (my phone) not only ported this, but made it official, and its a great ROM, I have some bugs to work out, but I've built this from source and its running good for me, so before I make it a project I'd like a couple testers....
I am running it on philz recovery, and its running cyans kernel, so blackhawk should work....
Bugs:
cyanogen boot animation.... Working on that...
Keyboard: its for Chinese people... Your going to have to get one from the play store or use a root exploring file manager to place the apk in Tue links below in your /system/app/ Folder and change the permissions to rw-r--r--, then reboot.... Working on adding the aosp keyboard to the source...

after 3 hours of use, two words : GREAT ROM !
everything: Wifi, camera, Halo work fine, it's the smoothest ROM that has Halo till now, it's as smooth as SlimBean and CM10.1, and waaaaaay faster than PAC and PA (in my opinion)
i think you should move it to development section, it really belongs there

You just have to remember that it would probably be really difficult for any ROM to match what moto has done stock on this thing. Its a pretty good example of what optimized android is capable of.
Trying to make an odex stock ROM so the folks who are rooted can flash mods, I had fc's and a bootloop after installing some mods but it seems no one wants to do an updater script for us. I lack the knowledge to do a script, I have the system folder odex already so if any one can help, let me know
Sent on my Moto X
I'd just think the following:
If the phone came with a different ROM, let's say stock... or let's say Touchwiz-like: Then you start seeing a lot of custom ROMs to flash. One of them is like the one the MotoX comes with. Wouldn't you choose that one?
You just feel like flashing because you're used to it... but if the MotoX ROM didn't exist, these would probably be the features you'd be looking for on a modified ROM. That's why, don't forget, there's people now working on other phones, aiming to replicate what we already have as stock.

It doesn't. I tried it on my atrix HD and I had about a 30% success rate.

I just want to install ParanoidAndroid on here when they port. Stock android is missing a lot of simple functional tweaks that I've grown used to and feels less intuitive without it.
hopefully someone can help with this

You never know, the touchless control is a market updatable app, not part of the Rom itself. I thing as long as the build prop is set properly it should work still.

Yeah, you can install it, but that doesn't mean it will work. From what I've read, it didn't.

Your right, for now. Lets wait and see the development. Every OEM's has its own unique features though.

My point being, there's a whole hardware aspect that supports this stuff. If it's about just simulating it, I've seen people do it with 4.3's dynamic notification service, and I've also seen people find a way to have Google Now listening for most of the time... but without the dedicated hw, it drains battery in no time.

Testing Firefox OS in Xperia SP

So, this is a great new !!
http://fxpblog.co/firefoxos/testing-firefox-os-on-sony-xperia-sp/
I had one question always.
Can we xsp users multi boot?
great ! firefox on sp wow
No, it's a side project so it doesn't get much time. Release won't be for several weeks. The issues are not only on the side of device porting but also on the side of Mozilla. It is still under active development, unlike Android which is only released when it is complete.
Yeah, but of we get Ubuntu, it'd better right? But alas, no dev to port it for xsp. Same is for Firefox. As @Levered said it'll take a lot of time to get updates from the op if it gets ported

This is getting awesome!! I just want to try Ubuntu os but I'm a noob[emoji53]. So I'll rather wait and not make any threads for request.
And thanks man. You are awesome too for giving us hopes for a different os[emoji6]

Do you have any idea about eta? I know I shouldn't ask but still, a rough idea?
It seems nice

I'm curious, what are you guys 'eager' to see this?
The reason for no release is due to camera. From what I can tell the camera blobs depend on some Android specific parts which will never be part of FxOS (of course).
Unless this is solved then I will probably not release this for Xperia SP as nobody will use it without a functioning camera.
I'm considering getting Xperia E1 to continue this project as this hardware is better supported in FxOS and it also looks like the camera blobs do not have this limitation.

You caused it lol by posting this and showing a video everyone got all excited also you could just release non working build like many devs do with their custom ROMs: on some phones the phone might never have working wi-fi on custom ROMs (desire c fixed after about a year of tinkering) or if you check out the HTC one x custom ROMs they have a lot of stuff broken too!

No way, missing camera (and bluetooth) are missing features too big to warrant a release.
Besides, would anyone really permanently switch from Android to FxOS on Xperia SP if I fixed these two issues and released it? I'd bet money on it that people would use it for a couple of hours maximum, then realize they need the Google services that push all notifications to the phone.
(FxOS doesn't have push notifications for most things, pretty much everything has to be reloaded / refreshed manually, even syncing contact data.)
tested on older device..
I have already tested Firefox OS on my older Xperia E Dual device.. it kinda sucked.. I didn't like the way it felt and it was laggy and super slow.. maybe it is better here in XSP
