[Q]is it possible to downgrade CWM on SM-N9005 to fix E: signature check issue ? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm a complete noob here, however I have some technical skills and I have already rooted several android phones & tablets in the past.
With my latest device, I went through installation of latest CWM from chenglu n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.4(1011).tar with Odin (both 1.85 and 3.09).
Everything went OK, phone boot normally and in recovery mode CWM seems ok.
However, when it comes to install a ZIP (for instance the root access package - UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip), the signature check do fail systematically with a E: signature verification failed. No matter the Zip, it ends up with the same error and the installation can't continue.

}
So I have tried to disable MD5 signature check in CWM recovery, so far to no avail.
In This 6.0.4.4 (1011) CWM recovery, there is no way to disable signature check AFAIK. It is normally in the "install from sd card" submenu, but this menu entry is no longer present
So, as older CWM seems to operate correctly with signature check (or at least provide a way to disable it), I've tried to downgrade to an older CWM, for instance n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.7-new-kernel(0925).tar which is confirmed to operate properly.
All the flashing process finishes without error, however I have still the same CWM version that doesn't work.
So Right now I have a phablet with CWM installed, but unable to install any packages. And very strangely, my Knox warranty void is still 0x00 after all this (see 2nd picture)
So, is there a way to disable signature check in the CWM I have used, or a way to downgrade the CWM ?
Thank you.

I have the same problem.

[solved] pit file not found error

Many posted here about a PIT file not found during odin flash which results to FAIL by Odin.
This is how i solved it.
Was on stock MDL when i tried to root using MOTOCHOPPER which failed with SUPERUSER icon in my menu.
in was not rooted and had the superuser app in my menu. so tried to reset the phone from settings/accounts/backup and reset, which
resulted in data wipe but problem not solved. so i tried to install OUDHS Cwm based recovery through odin. this also failed first but managed to install it using a diff comp. now after this i had a binary update installation failed issue also.
I downloaded Odexed No Data Wipe Zip from the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258384
and flashed it with the cwm based recovery. the rom has su and fresh binary in it so my binary issue was solved.

see the above image, that started after i flashed the Odexed No Data Wipe Zip and my wifi was not switching on. got stuck again.
i had read in some post that many devs do not include PIT file in custom rom to avoid ^%$%$#$ during flashing, crossed my finger and
used qbking's method to unroot, that is by downloading stock MDC firmware through the samsung site and oidining it with only autoreboot checked, flashed perfectly fine without pit file error. now my phone is completely stock as in out of the box i got the MDL ota as well.
not gonna mess anymore anytime soon.

Want to unroot, need help please

Hi,
I'm new to android and recently rooted my Galaxy S7 Edge AT&T Snapdragon and now I want to unroot and return to stock but I'm having trouble.
To begin, I can't access recovery mode anymore. I get a message in the top left corner of the screen that says something about "custom rom blocked". I tried to follow instructions I found on XDA on how to unroot and return to stock. I downloaded the files and used Odin to flash it, it begins to do something and then gives me an error.
What am I doing wrong or how do I fix it? I apologize if I'm not explaining this the greatest, like I said I'm new to this and don't understand it much. All I want to do is wipe the root and return to stock. All help is greatly appreciated!

If Your phone works then try this ^
If Your phone is dead then post the log from Odin.
Thanks for the help! I tried it multiple times and it says each time "uninstallation failed". Could it be the issue I'm having with the recovery image?

I don't think so, but I guess that the best thing You can do right now is to just reflash the whole phone with Odin, but since You get errors in Odin I need to see the log.
I successfully unrooted last night using these instructions and the files provided. I don't know if it'll work for you though.
Instructions: https://stockromupdate.com/how-to-flash-stock-rom-samsung-smartphone/
Files: https://stockromupdate.com/2016/08/...galaxy-s7-edge-sm-g935fd-6-0-1-g935fxxu1apgf/
Note: Make sure you ignore the Home_CSC file AND the Pit tab in Odin. Never touch "Pit" unless you know what you're doing. And also note that the ROM provided might not be the one developed for your country, but it should work fine.

[HELP] Can't update phone after unroot

Unrooted my Samsung S8 running 8.0 and tried to update using smartswitch and am just met with a blue screen saying "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software" i have tried doing that and (at the time of writing this) it has failed once, idk if i can boot to download mode and have tried but its either already in it or its just F'd up...
When i run Odin it says "Added" so thats a good sign right?
At the time of this im currently trying the recovery option so will see if this works...

Just flash the firmware you need through Odin. If you get any errors during flashing then post them here and I can help.

How to install XIAOMI OTG updates on this phone using UNOFFICIAL TWRP (lavender)?

I just got this phone, and am enjoying it.
I installed the unofficial TWRP from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...overy-unofficial-twrp-touch-recovery-t3921637 . I just got a new "OTG" update for this phone that I want to install.
However, I just learned that you can't install OTG updates normally with TWRP installed as a custom recovery. I also have Magisk (systemless root) installed.
I still want TWRP installed for the benefits, but I also want the improvements from the official OFG updates. I am also aware that OTG erases root with each update.
Does anyone know how to install this latest update (without losing all my data)? Is there a custom file/build I can flash that will update my system but not wipe everything?
It shouldn't be any rush but I don't want to be running behind on all the important updates coming to this phone either.
Thanks.
(UPDATE; Deleting the compatibility.zip file inside the latest OTG update rom .zip file from here: https://www.fonearena.com/blog/279737/xiaomi-redmi-note-7-software-update-tracker.html , made the installation suddenly work! Yay! I also installed Magisk.zip again, because I probably would need to anyways. Should be easy from now on!)
Hopefully this will help someone else!
(Looks like my issue is similar to this recent post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...overy-unofficial-twrp-touch-recovery-t3921637 . Not quite sure if I understand the directions completely however... hmmm...)
If there is a ota just download the full Rom. Works with twrp..
After Update install magisk again.. And voila. [emoji6]

Better you use orangeFox recovery, theres no Chance to overwrite with original recovery on Update.

Soft brick? Odin connecting but "fail auth"

I tried to install TWRP from the app. I selected the correct device and it says it was successful. So I tried to reboot into recovery mode and all it did was give me a warning about non-verizon crap and went into loop. I can boot into download mode and connect to odin just fine, but when I try to flash TWRP from odin it fails. On my note 3 it says:
SYS REV CHECK FAIL : No Version
SECURE MAGICCODE CHECK FAIL : recovery
Any help is greatly appreciated!

If anyone stumbles across this, samsony has firmware for 4.3, 4.4.2 and 5.0. I was able to use the 4.4.2 to restore the stock recovery and the phone worked again.

Been there before. You need to be rooted before you can flash TWRP. Root with ArabicRootApp.exe and unlock the bootloader with adb & unlock_n3.
