Google Apps working without root. - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" General

I've been able to get most of the Google Apps working in the Kindle Fire HDX with simple sideload and adding account. Below is the video showing the apps working. Follow the link below for instructions and the second link to download the Google apps.

Errors
Hey man, this is great for the most part. However I followed your steps and I constantly get service errors no matter what I'm running. Have you gotten these errors to stop? Also have you found anything more about getting the play store to work?
Thanks,
Sean

Google play not working. Gmail is though. I'm using the play store by logging in via the silk browser, but unlike with the nexus 7 I just returned, I can't get the paid versions I've already bought for my Android phone. Im NOT paying rwice for the same apps (ie Poweramp). I like the Kindle overall, don't mind its Amazon overlay, but completely resent their blocking me from using their competitor's app-store. If they want to really go toe 2 toe with Google, let them develop a full new yet redundant operating system that rivals OSX & Android. Guess I'll have to root. Is not like they own every Kindle & we're just renting like the cable box for $10/mo.
These are not the droids you're looking for.

Yeah, I'm unable to get Google Play to work with this method, and it creates a lot of errors with services and wireless connections in the process.

For all of you having problems: did you also download and install google play services as well? I hear thats required for a lot of the gapps to work.

I can confirm the following apps work with signin and sync and so on:
Maps
Keep
Play Music
Youtube
Drive
Chrome Beta
Gmail
I did need to install play services 3.2.66. And i do get random "com.google.android.gapps" crashes even when not using a google app, but it is easily dismissed.

Hmm i see that the google services framework are version 4.0.4-338691, and the google account manager is 4.0.3-239410. Perhaps it would be better to use 4.2.2 versions (if they exist) ?
Anyone seen those around in apk format? (i've only seen them in the gapps packages for cm10.x and i think they need to be repacked, which i do not know how to do...)

check goo.im for gapps packages you need.

That's exactly what i did. But those come in a .zip for flashing on top of a AOSP rom without google stuff. I'm pretty sure you can't just extract the apks and install them (at least not the one i tried). As i mentioned i expect they need to be repacked in proper apk form, which is something i do not know how to do.

I don't quite follow you. Are you downloading ALL these files to your computer and then transferring them to the HD Fire ? I am not a tech person at all and this just seems to be over my head to do.

Yes, that's would be one way to do it. Or if you go to the web page using your Kindle Silk Browser then you can download directly to your Kindle Fire HDX.

It's simply a zip file containing the files GAPPS use and the command instruction including where to put all the files. At the moment, since there is no root, it's not possible to write some files to the system folder/directory. But for the APK files, if you install them it would put them on the user application space rather than system application space like normal GAPPS do on custom ROM(s). That said, not all the google apps will require those files to be in the system space. So, no worry there. You would simply unzip the file and try to install the apks and move the files to the user space if you can. That's the best you could do for now. I could write a little script file to do that as I did on the Nook HD+. Hence that's the root and GAPPS was done in the Nook HD+ at the beginning. I'm not gonna bother writing any script as I'm still waiting for my 2nd replacement unit. If this thing goes south again, I would just return the device and wait to see if I would get the new 2013 Nexus 7/10. I might even keep my eyes open for those 8inches Windows 8.1 tablet also.

Are notifications and background sync working for Gmail? I've read conflicting reports.
Thanks!

i dont know if this is known but, i just downloaded the latest google services, search and youtube app, i now have all cards in my google now, and signed into youtube.
Just thought id throw it out there

Any more of those annoying FCs? Did you just install the apks and nothing else? Where did you get them from?
I've not tried it for a week or so but ended up just removing the google stuff as it just kept crashing.

No FC at all works fine, all I did was go to Google play, search for the apps, find the version numbers, and downloaded through websites on Google search, Android police have them if I remember rightly, all I did was I stall the apks through es file explorer

When you say latest "services" do you mean Google Services Framework or Google Play Services? What version of each do you have installed?

No more google crashes after many resets and installs of Google service. Its possible. Everything is working without errors .otherwise I would of kept it off. I installed vending.apk inside system and outside... followed cowboy's instructions..very happy. I'm rooted though

How do you install and use Google Play?

I rooted my nook today and no matter what I try, using Opera Mini, I cannot get any google apps to install. I also cant figure out how to add a device to google apps. Since the Market app never works for anyone this seems to be the only way to install anything but there are no forums mentioning how to install it. I would appreciate some assistance. Thanks.
no one here knows the answer to this? i'm shocked no replies yet.
download gapps.zip and flash it.

Guyman2,
Depending on the rooting method you used, there is way to install gapps, which includes market (google play - they are compatible in use, nothing being left). Check it on the proper post here in the development forum!

To more succinctly state the problem:
How can you get APKs out of Google Play without loading your personal device with a load of junk from Google?
I've got Google Maps on my Nook right now and every time I turn my back it's trying to do something (when not running).
Renate,
Gotta live with that. That's the price of having market (gmail always on the background, etc), but it helps the system runs a little bit better (apps upgrade!).
Guyman,
Look on the thread related to touchnooter, and probably there will be an option to add gapps to your system. Usually the 1st post show you all the options.
Have the same problem - is there a way to install market only?
What I'm going to do is install on my phone, extract it from the phone, then load onto the Nook and delete what's left over! Madness, I know.
A nicer way for me would be to install into a virtual machine and do that. Anyone know if that's possible? Possibly even with Android-x86??
I don't like market in this sense. It's a problem with all Android devices as far as I can see. Market is a bit of a problem in this regard.
I'm not sure about the problem here, but, I can confirm that, I rooted my NST with Touchnooter and market is working fine, I downloaded several apps from market and, I also installed some apps trough Google Play Store from my PC directly to the NST.
For me Market search didn't work after following MinimalTouch so I had to use the SearchMarket app from Appbrain. After this now I can search and install anything but still can't click the notifcations, OperaMini crashes back to the ADW desktop, same for Browser too after clicking a link in Google.
edit:
for Renate re: Maps out of control. Yes, I noticed too that it comes out of the background and wastes battery. 2 ideas: 1) Freeze it when not in use. You can use a Widget from Titanium or AppQuarantine for quicker launch 2) use something 3rd party
I also suggest using a different account for the Nook to any other Android devices you have to keep things separate and clear since the NST is not recognised by Play.
For a bare-bones root with an appstore, tinynoot ought to work.
I cobbled it together for the glowlight but all the parts are from the established NST environment - clockwork, su, busybox, adw, button savior, nook touch and nook color tools.
I include the Amazon appstore, which of course is also an app that likes to be always on, but none of the gapps because the framework for the glowlight stuff hasn't been looked at yet.
The install scripts are based on minimal nooter, which is CWR based file and directory creation.
I didn't include a modded uRamdisk because I find that adb wireless is enough on its own to let me use wifi adb (dont' recall if I've used usb ADB but I suspect it would work, in assocation with nook color tools) - I can shell in via ADB and just need to type su to get superuser.
Downloads and longwinded instructions are up at

You could format and use one of my minimal zips instead of the full ones, they had only the neccesary apps and libs for Gmail (manual sync) and "Market" to work correctly, nothing more, nothing less, no maps, etc.
Now everything is a bit outdated, as I said, I'll work on this again and update the zips etc.

[Q] NST GMarket search

Hi,
I am kind of new to Android (not linux) and I am asking myself, if it is even possible to enable the search function somehow in Google Market.
There are several attempts to do so and some report it working. Unfortunately, the working reports are so old that I am confused weather it is still possible or not.
I have tried several Vending.apk's, even the ones reported working as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15084704&postcount=51
I am on 1.1.2. Maybe someone could confirm/disprove Market search working or not. Then we would know if struggling is worth the task getting it to work.
Thanks for the reply

Use SearchMarket.apk to search for apk's in the market.
It work's if you have registered your gmail account correctly (that is your market.apk works/connects to google play).
http://www.appbrain.com/app/searchmarket/youten.redo.searchmarket?install=appwidget
yeah no, that was not what i meant.
Of course Market is working with a proper gmail adress. I was talking about it being possible to search the market w/o searchmarket app. Like people telling it would work, but most posts are still of 2011. So my question is: Is it even possible to search the Market in nowadays Google Play time w/o 3rd party apps?
Why is searching not possible? IMO, it is because of server restictions, not because of the Vending.apk. Right?
So I assume these "claimed to be working" Vending.apk's are not working anyway anymore, are they?
Thx
How can I get the SearchMarket.apk file for manual adb installation? My Nook Market app won't let me install any app.
Edit: Managed to get it installed by searching for it from within the Browser and installing from the web interface. Weird but after that the SearchMarket app was shown topmost on MyApps in Market and could be clicked, which begun installation.
The problem is Market for Nook only displays a limited # (~15) of MyApps (given I have a Galaxy S3 with 350+ apps installed and that the Nook Market doesn't restrict to Nook installed ones).
just download market search from gstore ....... log on gmail acc that u root ur nst with and go to google store and search ur appz ur desire and download to ur acc ....... once u connect ur nook to wifi ur appz will download successfully , between that i am use market seacher on my rooted nst 1.1.2 and works great till now , try methid above with reinstall market searcher

The apk itself is free so i guess uploading it here is not illegal.
I recently uninstalled (deleted) the apks of certain android apps like gtalk, calendar from my system/app folder on my rooted NST using root explorer.
Not sure if it is related, but, unable to install any app now from the app market. I use app-brain app market for downloading apps.
I'm able to find the apps, but on clicking on download, it doesn't get downloaded and instead says it is 'downloading' without any apparent change.
Is the problem related to the deletion of certain apks?
Note: haven't deleted any apk even associated with the word download/market.

Solved it. I Had uninstalled gtalk thinking it was unnecessary on the NST but it broke the market.
Installed gtalk and the market started working fine again.
You are sure you didn't uninstall anything?
What is the error btw? It takes you to the download page but the download doesn't begin?

Nice with a thread for this.
Worth mentioning perhaps:
Widgets does not work (will FC if you try to add one)
A longpress (for adding/moving icons) while the device is in landscape orientation will make the orientation do a barrel roll. Put the device in portrait mode while moving stuff about to avoid this.

Very cool as an experiment. However, I continue to recommend to people who want an "Android-esque" experience on their HDX that they:
* Install Vire Launcher from 1mobile.com, since it allows a limited number of wallpapers (built into the launcher itself), rather than just having a black background.....and since it also has clock widgets
* Install the new Google Search, without Play Services, and put a Google Icon on their home screen. This allows you to use Google Voice Searches, with the exception of NOW cards, as with any other Android tablet. You can even get the "OK Google" hot voice command to work.

TWRP is not a option if your device is running FireOS 14.3.2.8 or above.
Safestrap v4 can be installed on (rooted) FireOS v4.5.2 and v4.5.5.1. Will not work on versions below or between. Two custom roms are compatible with Safestrap v4: Nexus v4 and CM11. See links for relevant discussion. Key points:
- never perform a stock 'factory reset' with Safestrap installed; brick is likely
- always flash roms to the STOCK slot with Safestrap v4 (replaces FireOS)
- never create or populate secondary slots (contrary to most youtube video guidance; just don't)
- always keep a copy of the rom installation zip on device (root of sdcard) for recovery purposes
- read what needs to be done, understand it and ask questions if needed
- there are many good summaries in the threads but no 'sticky' guide or how-to video. Gota read ...

How to Install Google Play Store

Now that we have root I've been able to test and verify that Google Play Store can be installed. So far I'd had no issues. Obviously you'll need root access first which I've put links below.
Rooting tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544965
Rooting video: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546117
1. Download the following zip file which includes all the required files (KFHDX_PlayStore).
2. Install Google Account manager, Services Framework, and Play Services (it is not necessary to install as system app).
3. Reboot
4. Install Vending.apk in "system/app" (requires to make "/system" RW) then open up the app and log-in with you account.
5. Install Google Play Store
Even though Play Store can be installed with account, downloading of apps are not working. Stay tuned.

Yes, Play Store is working fine and now shows up in my Play Store setting account. Versions are as follows:
Account manager: 4.03
Services Framework: 4.04
Play Services: 4.034

Now enjoy your super Amazon tablet.

After I copy Vending.apk in "system/app", install it, then open it, Services Framework and com.google.process.gapps starts stoping but Vending.apk is still running. I enter my account info but gets stuck on a loading screen but I can look at settings. If I try to look at My apps in setting "A server error has occurred." I closed vending and rebooted. Then I installed Google Play Store and opened it but it says No connection. (It is not Iptables causing the conflict.)

Is it possible for you to make a video of this? The only reason I got my device rooted was because of your videos.

I will make a video soon but it's basically the same as the KF HD so you can check that video for now. I would suggest for everyone that is having trouble to make sure you remove all sideloaded Google apps if you had installed them. I had some issues before when I tried to re-install some Google apps after removing my account. I began with a fresh start that had no sideloaded apps. So far I'd had no issues with FC, or messages. I know people suggest installing all apps in system/app but if I prefer to keep system app installation to a minimum. If it doesn't require it then I don't do it. That was the case with old KF HD and I had no issues and I will do the same on the KF HDX.

[HOW-TO] Install Google Play Store (Fire OS 5.X) (No Root/PC/ADB)

This's just a quick guide on how to get the Google Play Store installed on the latest Fire OS 5 for Amazon Fire tablets with no Root, PC or ADB required.
This should work on any Amazon Fire tablet released from 2014 onwards (4th Generation and above) that's running Fire OS 5.X.
NOTE (1): To install the required APKs, you may need a file manager from the Amazon Appstore, I used TOTAL COMMANDER - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H4IHJ8M/
With later versions of Fire OS or SILK, you can just tap the download notifications as and when you download the APKs or use SILKs download manager, removing the need for the above file manager.
Click to collapse
NOTE (2): You'll also need to enable 'Apps from Unknown Sources' found under Settings > Security of the Fire OS.
Click to collapse
Now simply download the 4 APK files below using the stock web browser, SILK and install them in that same order, then POWER OFF and RESTART your tablet and afterwards open up the Google Play Store and log in with your Google account:
1. Google Account Manager 5.1-1743759
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...unt-manager-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/
2. Google Services Framework 5.1-1743759
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...s-framework-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/
3. Google Play Services 11.5.09 (230-164803921)
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...s-11-5-09-230-164803921-android-apk-download/
4. Google Play Store 8.3.41.U-all [0] [FP] 170066753
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...41-u-all-0-fp-170066753-android-apk-download/
In future, the Google Play Store and Google Play Services apps will auto update themselves in the background.
How to install? (Sorry, newcomer!)
I have downloaded the 4 APKs mentioned, but what is the procedere to install them?

Edit: stay away from ES File Manager, it was sold, and new owners have packed it full of junkware
there are several other great file managers

among others
Tnx for your assistance sd-shadow. All working perfect meanwhile!

I take no credit for this, I'm just simply creating a quick and simple post (mainly for ease and future reference for myself) to get the Google Play Store installed on the latest Fire OS 5.3.1.1 with no root or ADB required.
All you have to do is download and install these 4 APKs below and login with your Google account, that's it:
Google Account Manager 5.1-1743759
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...unt-manager-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/
Google Services Framework 5.1-1743759
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...s-framework-5-1-1743759-android-apk-download/
Google Play Services 9.8.77 (230-135396225)
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...es-9-8-77-230-135396225-android-apk-download/
Google Play Store 7.0.17.H-all [0]
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/google-play-store-7-0-17-h-all-0-release/
NOTE: This was all done on a Amazon Fire 8, 6th Gen. device.

Are those the prerequisites for Google play store? i have android system in my car multimedia. it does not have the google play store in it, and when i tried to install it (only google play store) it won't lunch and crash..
so i understand it needs all the 3 apk's in addition..
the version of android i have in my car is 4.4.2 - will the above apk version fit? or do i need different version?

Off topic question (does not pertain to device) - you'll need to ask your question elsewhere. And yes, different versions are needed depending on device type, capabilities and Android build.
I had to install latest Play Store version to get it all running on our Kindle Fire (think it's 5th gen). Version recommended above just went back to home screen.
Is there any way to get multiple Google accounts working using this method? I have a couple accounts that I need to have on devices for various reasons.
Excellent work!

FireOS yes you can update, Google framework will remain
root after updating, unlikely, at least right away

Thank you. Google Play Services on my Kindle Fire crashed and wouldn't allow me to access any Google Apps including Chrome, Gmail etc.. The message indicated that the apps wouldn't work unless an updated version of Google Play Services was installed and it seemed like the update wouldn't go through. I reset my Kindle to factory settings and followed your instructions and it seems great so far...not asking for a Google Play Services update. Thank you again Gilly10.

Hi, so you can update FireOS. But what about the google framework? Does it get updated automatically? Or if a new versione will be released, do you need to unistall the 4 apk first, and than install a newer version of the 4 apk?
Seems this method is no longer functioning. Applications are not searchable - only the webview application comes up on search results. When I search for my previously downloaded applications, they come up, but state that the administrator has not given me permission to install this item.
Furthermore it is the Google Play store for Work?
Any thoughts? This is happening on 3x Kindle Fire HD 8 devices, all of which worked previously. Running 5.3.1.1.

Working great, thanks!
Worked great on 6th gen 5.3.2.
Thanks!
I keep getting a Parsing error when I try to install the first .apk file. Kindle Fire HD 8.9
I have Kindle fire 8.9. I've downloaded the apps but every time I try installing the first one, "Account manage" I get a "parse error." Do I need different files for my device or am I just doing something wrong?

parsing errors occur for a few different reasons
possibly one of these, but not limited to
app is not compatible with the os version
not much you can do about that other than try an older version of the app
there is a problem with the package installer
try wiping installer app data
some kind of caching error, or another app causing install failure
try a factory reset and/or flash firmware with adb sideload in recovery
