[Q] Request Support d2 (US Variants) - Omni Q&A

Being one of the more widely used devices as well as my personal device (until note 3) OmniROM is EXACTLY what we need. If anyone can maintain for these devices it would be fantastic. Can't wait to try this out on my Manta.

I concur.

I've been trying but have been getting errors. The d2 community is big, we'll get it soon enough.
Just because one is anonymous doesn't mean that one has privacy.

Ahem indeed

Only if I knew how to port, I'd make a d2vzw build but I'd screw it up...

Doubt it is anything... probably samfirmwares trying to get some traffic.
Downloading now...I don't expect anything special but we will see.
is this not the rumored model number of the nexus S?
disappointed to hear its still using RFS... so here's hoping that's either untrue or it /isn't/ the nexus S firmware.

Also, you need to make sure your distro supports UBIFS. It's a rather *new* file system format but from what I have heard Fedora 11 does.. have to redownload my copy though ;/

you also need mtd utils, most distros support this as well, but here is the git if your distro doesn't support it out of the box: git://git.infradead.org/mtd-utils.git
UBIFS git here: git://git.infradead.org/ubifs-2.6.git
I got past all the errors and the on the last step couldn't mount the ubifs.

There won't be one until i9000 gets one. Codeworkx/coolya refuse to release the rom until it's stable, and trust me, it's not stable yet. If you want to play with it, by all means, build it from source, but it's not ready for release yet.

All the devs here do that by asking for donations for ROMs based on leaked/unreleased firmware. The manufacturers/carriers/google work on this tirelessly for months to provide it as a free update, while devs here get paid by remixing leaks of their work. It's apples and oranges as far as I'm concerned.

ICS: Can it run?

What do you guys think? can it run on the G2/DZ?
i think it might be able to. looking at the code, it might be able to run some things. plus, the galaxy nexus has only a 5mp camera. the G2 has a 5mp camera as well, so it could be capable of some ICS camera features, maybe all of it. i am keeping my fingers cross that ICS can work on this phone!
If it can run on both Nexus S and Nexus One, i don't see why not on G2?

Where did you get this info?
there was a basic honeycomb port a while back, and thats before we had a real source for honeycomb. Now that we'll have the ICS source, we should be able to run it. It'll just take time to get developers (and google) to have a working release.

Its already been shown running on the Nexus S.
If it can run on the Nexus S, it will definitely run on here. I'm ready for it.
honestly from looking at it id be willing to run just stock rooted ICS, without any sort of special ROM on top, it looks fantastic and if it happens ill at least make it one of my boots in boot manager, looks to be top notch and im so excited for devs to get it working on the G2! they have all of my support!
of course it can run on our visions and it will...........soon!!!!

Stock would just be fine with me! My guess is anything above stock, like a sense version of ICS, it will take up too much memory and perhaps slow the phone down.
I hope whoever (cyanogen? ) can get it running. That would be a great thing! I want my G2 to last one more year with the latest software. After that, the next nexus is what I will be aiming for

its confirmed that nexus s is going to get it. also, according to Cohen and Engadget who asked him, any 2.3 device can run it (theoretically).

Unfortunately, we're all going to have to wait until sometime after the source code is released and the CM team can get it working. As far as an official update, I don't think so unless HTC itself posts an update.

Galaxy nexus has a System Dump from the OTA which was rolled out to the developers at i/o
As far as the One X goes I have no idea why they have a rom. Is it a SDK Port? 'cause you don't want a SDK Port, believe me!
Be Patient. Just 2 Weeks. In 3 Weeks we will have dozens of Jelly Bean Roms!
Why porting an i9250 rom? Jelly Bean is coming for Nexus S in "mid july".
A port is wasted time.....

And about the question why the One X has JB: I wanna quote the Dev. :

Why no ROM for S3 i747 AT&T - d2att

It looks like a lot of devices are already being supported, but I am surprised to see no support for the North American i747 variants of the S3. I can't find any discussions about it either, so I don't know what the reason is.
Does anyone have any insights?

With a non-Nexus or non-4.4 device, you basically have to code the drivers and everything by hand, if I understand my reading correctly, as well as any device-specific adjustments that must be made.
