Having network issue with octa version, any help? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My provider only uses HSPA +/LTE, the phone always downgrades to hspa (non +) and sometimes 3g which my provider doesn't support so I loose my data connection and it sometimes takes a really long time for it to go back to the proper hspa+ that I need it to use all the time. Anybody knows if I can somehow force the phone to use hspa+ 100% of the time?
Thanks

Switch to HSPA+ only mode. Probably wont work with phone calls unless you VOIP.

How??

You must be mixing up HSPA+ with LTE. I don't think there's a way to choose between HSPA/HSPA+/UMTS, they're all considered 3G or WCDMA (unless you're in Canada.. carriers lie here, those networks shown as 4G are actually 3G)

Well when my phone shows 3g or hspa I cant get anything to load online, it will stay on this mode for a while sometimes and then as soon as the phone shows hspa+ everything loads perfect. Every othere phone I have bought from Bell mobility in canada show hspa+ all the time.

I also had an unlocked Note 2 with exynos processor that did the same thing.

I just tried making a call with my Note 3 (S800) and it was able to make a call on HSPA+ on TELUS. I think either your location doesn't have good HSPA+ signal / it's overloaded or there's a problem with the phone, does it support all the 3G frequencies Bell uses?

call #9090#.
Will bring up configuration menu.
Should be tons of radio mode options. One should be HSPA+ only.

Must be the wrong code, *9090* doesn't do anything and *#9090# brings me to a service menu which has no radio settings

Bell mobility uses "UMTS/HSPA compatible on 850 and 1900 MHz bands" which is supported by the note 3, I just dont get why both my unlocked exynos note 2 (got rid of it 1 month after I bought it because of this problem) and also the exynos note 3 have this problem on bell mobility in canada.....

You can always edit data retry to a smaller number in your build.prop.
"ro.telephony.default_network" is the build.prop entry for which default network you're on. You could figure out which one of those corresponds to HSPA+ (probably through trial and error).
**edit
Oh, you may just have to flash a new modem then O.0
My N9005 is missing quite a few radios at the moment as well.

Wish I could do all of that lol

Maybe there is sime kind of problem with your sim and/or phone...
I'm with Virgin (owned by Bell and same network). My device is switching between 3G and HSPA+... And it's working perfectly fine.

see if this works:
Settings > More Networks (under connections) > Mobile Networks > Network Mode = choose the option which you like and see if it works.
heads up, even with settings forced from here my network sometimes fluctuates.

3g on tmous tab on att

Popped my sim back into my tab which is flashed to make phone calls and I got hsdpa on att. Made a google search. Loaded it very quickly then kicked me off the network. Had to reboot to get back back on. So does that possibly mean that its att and not the t mous tabs that's keeping them from getting 3g.

Try uninstalling juice defender. Juice defender has a problem where it starts making its own decisions and disabling/enabling mobile data whenever it feels needed. I dont think its an att problem. When you rebooted, did u lose connection to the network again after a while?

Usually flashing to stock fixes all issues. I would suggest doing that and recustomizing to your needs and seeing if the problem arrives.

Yes by flashing your tab to be able to make phone calls, that means you flash it with a european rom. Your tab turns into a european tab and att use the same band as europe for 3G data. That's why you have 3g and phone capability.
Here's what haopens when I put my sim in.
Keep in mind its a t mobile tab
Tab starts
Tab finds att gets on att network
Tab then picks up hsdpa from att
Tab does google search and then is promptly kicked off the network. Have to restart tab to get back on network.
After restart tab then finds att and edge only. Should I constantly have hsdpa on the flashed. Tmous tab on atts network or is getting it on start up a fluke.

It depends on the signal strength. You won't always get H sign, sometimes one meter can make a difference it depends on the place where you are.

T-Mobile TAB hardware supports AWS band (2100 down 1700 Up) for 3G. AT&T 3G is 850/1900.
Here is what is happening in your TAB. You have an AT&T SIM in a TMobile Tab. I find's TMO 3G network but is unable to connect since you have a AT&T SIM.
Obviously you cannot connect to AT&T 3G network because your TAB cannot connect to AT&T 3G bands.
no doubt, the OP is liar! the picture is actual att tab , not tmo one.
I own both att and tmo tab.
tmo tab has no way to get att 3G with any modem (include att one).

It is a fact that you will not get AT&T 3G on the T-Mobile Tab or vise versa. They use different bands. So the hardware won't allow it, which can't be fixed by flashing a different ROM no matter what.
Or by flashing a different modem either!

Show Which GSM UMTS Frequency is Connected?

Hello,
I have searched all over the web about how to display which GSM or UMTS bands I am connected and using at the moment (i.e. 850mhz, 1900mhz, etc), but the ibky thing I have found is to get into the phone's service menu, but every time I try, either nothing works or I receive MMI code invalid.
Is there an app that cab do this for me? I just want to know which frequency O am using in determining what other international phones can work in my area on 3g. I am on T-Mobile and I know they have been converting to the 1900mhz band for some time now, so I want to confirm for sure.
*#*#INFO#*#* does not reveal the band, and *#*#SERVICE#*#* does nothing ...
Please help.
Thank you.

[Q] Get LTE speed on cyanogenmod running on Galaxy Sr

So I have a Galaxy S4 Sgh-i337m (Canadian version) that have a custom recovery(clockwork touch 6) and is rooted. On that phone I have cyanogenmod 10.2 and I've been trying to get an LTE speed without success. I've seen the posts that tell me to change my apn but it haven't work. Currently when I switch data on I either get 4G or H+. I made speed test and the maximum I got is 10MBPS normally it should be around 30 to 75MBPS. So can someone help me get LTE speeds here's a photo of my current APN?
Could be a bunch of issues. Is the network mode set correct? I have noticed at times it is set to 4G to save battery. I have had times after flashing a ROM not connecting to the lte towers until after making a call. Another fix is resetting to default in apn.
Sent from my Nexus 10
Unless they've added an LTE symbol...on CyanogenMod 4G means LTE.
On touchwiz when it displays 4G its pretty much H+, Samsung just likes to make it look better
However you are right...your speed tests aren't lte speeds

When you see 4G on the status bar go to settings >about device>status. Network type should say umts% for 3g, hspda% for hspa+ or lte% for LTE (The % represents a frequency). Then you'll know for sure.

[How to] Disable LTE or 4G

This is useful if you have a weak LTE signal or just don't need it always on. I found this tutorial on a different website for another galaxy phone and it works on the Note 3.
1. Turn off your phone and take out your sim card.
2. Turn on your phone with no sim card and wait a minute or two for it to turn on and settle down.
3. Go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic".
(You have to use the menu key to select your options by using "Key Input" to type the number you want)
If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G).
If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G).
4) Power off the phone again and put your sim card back. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.
I get a service mode that says rat selection is restricted...
However *#*#4636#*#* will allow you to select whatever band you so choose. Although lte only doesn't allow voice calls

Thank you inmotion! This code actually worked better for me on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I didn't even have to pull out my SIM card or reboot. Just dial in the code, go to Device Info and change the preferred radio network type. It changes the radio on the fly in real time, and can be seen at the top.

1. Download the free Phone info app from the Google Play Store and install it
2. Choose the Phone Information tab and notice the "Set preferred network type" option at the bottom, marked with an arrow at the right of the drop-down menu
3. Tap on the preferred network listing currently in use, and choose the "CDMA auto (PRL)" option from the drop-down list
4. You should be now maintaining connection to only Verizon's 3G network, and whenever you need to use data, you can switch back to LTE for the duration of it
There are numerous other apps and widgets at the Play Store that claim to do the 2G/3G/4G switch, but many users on Verizon have confirmed the Phone info app to be the only method allowing them to reliably turn off the 4G LTE on their Samsung Galaxy S IIIs.

itll work on the n4 only if its band 4 lte, and no other frequency for lte. and its not about flashing a rom, its about flashing a hybrid radi, having the right apn, and changing the phine info to lte/gsm. there are threads that explain how to do it.
Yes I live in London.....but since updating to the latest 4.3 I can no longer select 4g LTE in the service menu. How would I find out if three is using the correct band !????

it goes back because you need to use either the .27 hybrid radio or the .33 hybrid radio. google disabled lte for 4.3, and you cant enable lte in the settings unless you are using one of the hybrid radios.

nice rationalization, but not true. the chip works great, everything works. and since switching over to lte permanently, ive been seeing 6-7 hours screen on time regularly. imagine this, when you download things it takes time for it to finish downloading, especially large files. the slower data speed, the longer it takes. the longer it takes, the more battery is wasted. on lte, i average about 30mbps download speed, so downloads finish in seconds. so less battery is wasted. i download 2gb games from the play store in about 13-18 minutes. the newer lte chips are much better on battety than the old days, better than hspa+, hspa, 3g, and 2g.

Battery life is the same with LTE enabled. My N4 has it enabled my wife hasn't let me to it to her's yet and our battery life is the same, but my data is much faster than her's. I get LTE signal with my N4 in the same places as I do with my Galaxy Tab 2. So I would say it works perfectly fine. Yes I am on T-mobile in case anyone was wondering.
3 UK is going to use LTE band 3 and 20 only, so the nexus 4 will not support it (unless Google is going to release a Nexus 4 LTe version, which is pointless because you should get the Nexus 5 anyway.)
