I wasn't very impressed with the Note 3's battery life at first, then I went into Settings>Application Manager and disabled a whole bunch of bloatware. Also went into each app and turned off any background update and location service if we don't need it. You can do this without root. Just take a look on this board and you'll see someone has compiled a list of apps that you can disable.
The phone now runs cooler, and yesterday, we had 14h usage and 6.5 hours display on time (auto brightness). Very impressive in my book.

Turn off all the Samsung features when you're not using them like Smart Stay and Air Gesture. The sensors are always on in certain apps when you have them enabled. Turning them on and off is easily accessible via the notification toggles. But it will only slightly help, your phone should be performing better than that even with those features running. Try a factory reset if it is safe to do with the root method.

yup. was recommended that app on the s4, great app

Download the app Wakelock Detector from the Play Store.
Open it for the first time right after you unplug your phone
After some deep sleep occurs for awhile, open Wakelock Detector and select the icon in the top right to select "Wakeup Triggers"
This will show you which app waked the device when it was trying to sleep(=screen off) and how many times it waked it. Figuring out Google wakelocks will probably help you the most unless you have some poorly written or rogue app
A good start would be to remove ALL google apps that you don't use, and turn off google ads as well as notifications and scheduled checks within say...Play Store and Youtube and Gmail

I essentially hibernate everything except system apps and widgets, just to be safe. You would also not hibernate apps that you want background notifications from. I also use the donate version, which allows me take advantage of GCM. Which, for apps that use GCM, allows me to hibernate those apps and still receive notifications.
Hope that helps =]

My favorite app is the Snapdragon BatteryGuru. I love it! That will monitor usage and show you which programs are battery hogs and will learn your behaviors with your phone. Only works with the Snapdragon Processor phones as well.

Reduce battery fast drain by disabling some stock processes.

This practice doesn't cause any problems on my GNote with stock ICS ROM 4.0.3.
However, it helps saving more juice or not? still curious but I think it's perceptible!
I went to Setting > Applications > All > tab and DISABLE the following processes;
Accuweather Weather Daemon
AccuWeather.com
Android live wallpapers * use only still wallpaper
AP mobile news
Application monitor
Aurora 2
Blue sea
Calculator * already installed RealCalc
Days
DioPen Chinese IME * have nothing to do with Chinese typing
Dual clock
Face Unlock * don't have enough handsome face for this
Google Search
Kobo
Let's try panning
Mini diary
MusicFX
My files * use zipper7
News & Weather
Photo wall
PressReader
Reader Hub
S Planner Widget
Samsung TTS * use stock Google TTS
Social Hub
Social Hub * there are 2 social hubs
Swype * use only Samsung keyboard
Talk
TalkBack
TwWallpaperChooser
Voice talk
Yahoo! Finance
Zinio
Then reboot once.
You can set things back to ENABLE anytime.

Just do the same procedure as you disable them. The same right button will let you ENABLE (or so called re-ENABLE) once you have disabled.

This only works on ICS, if you don't have ICS you need an app that does it for you need to be rooted though....
Curious. If you dont use it, and dont want it, why not just uninstall it, rather than disable it?

Without root and rom manager you can't uninstall rom apps.....
These apps are built in the rom so the only way is to disable them.
Is it safe to disabe mapservicesamsung? Someone said that process is a huge battery drainer.... Its always running in the background.

If you download Root Uninstaller from the market you can FREEZE apps instead of disabling them. Disabled apps still appear...frozen ones don't.

As I heard some third party appskiller app are unsafe to use. Because if you killed the wrong thing, your smartphone will get even more in battery drain. So i wonder if this disable thing is the same? Like disable things which shouldnt disable will cause more battery in draining.

Or AntTek App Manager, free.
You can natively freeze them with ICS, in your app drawer (stock TW Launcher) drag the app icon to app info, and click disable
I removed them. No need to freeze if your plan on not using them. Free up internal space.

From your app drawer, click and hold on the program you want, and it should take you to your home screen....at the top you should see "App Info". Drag the app icon onto that and it'll display the info you need.

hrmm...maybe it's because I haven't had my morning tequila shot yet but I don't see any such app info icon when I do what you're saying. I go to the app drawer, click and hold an app, it takes me to the home screen, but there's nothing anywhere that says app info.
Could this be something that's not on the ATT version of the phone?
::edit:: ok...I'm an idiot. I found it....but it's at the bottom of the screen, not at the top.
I just disabled them except for samsung account which I use for Samsung Dive.

I had to uninstall updates and then disable became an option.
Using the app info method works great if you are not rooted.
In the event you are rooted, using TB is easier. both work without any issues for all listed apps in the op.

No sir. You can do this with most of the pre-installed carrier software. I believe the option is "disable". When you see it you'll know what I mean. In fact it was the one thing that made me think that I wouldn't have to root my phone. Then I quickly got annoyed by the T-Mobile startup and shut down sounds. Can someone please tell T-Mobile to leave the standard start up and shut down sequence alone. I mean expect that from Verizon; Have you heard any of their phones start up? They're crazy obnoxious.
Great feature! You can also go to settings-applications-all and do or that way. Just uninstall updates and then you will have the disable button. Thanks for the top all.

Bad battery with tw roms

Hi, im getting some bad battery life's with any tw ROM. I get an average of 10hours with 2.5hours screen on. I've tried a lot of tweaks etc. Like disabling location services and down clocked CPU etc. I've disabled smart screen and all of those features. But when running stock android I can easily get 2days.
Someone know how to fix this.?

Now that I have root access, what can I do to make this phone faster?

As we all know on paper this phone is a beast but in real life not so much. Now that I had this phone for a week I can definitely say that my Galaxy S3 running AOKP 4.3 ROM was faster than this phone (no joke).
I mean the only thing that really bothers me a lot with this phone (and I don’t know if its touchwiz related) is lock screen lag. Sometimes when I’m locking or unlocking the phone it takes a good second or two to “wake up” or “go to sleep”
Do any of you guys notice the same problem? If so is the any way to fix this now that we have root access?
I’m also looking for any other tips and tricks to make this phone a little faster
Thanks in advance

Zero animations will help a little but it won't work miracles. You are used to an aosp-style rom, and Touchwiz simply is not that. Once we get Safestrap, devs will get debloated TW roms for this beast. Until then, you just have to deal with TW lag & bloat

Try to freeze/remove the "S Voice" application that maps itself to ---> double tap Home key.
By removing it, it removes the double tap mapping which greatly helped with home button wake lag on my Note 2
Next most common thing to help you is to use an app such as Android Tuner to edit the stock kernel CPU clocks. In deep sleep(=screen off), you can raise the mhz of the CPU so it takes less time to wake up. Not sure if you can do this on stock kernel/locked bootloader just yet and this will eat more battery in general if your phone is in deep sleep often

Jus run through the settings one by one and deselect anything that sounds like it might waste battery. Qslide, knock on, all nice touches but both waste that extra bit of juice and I can do without.
Enjoy
