Knox Problem - I Can't upgrade rom - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Letter I sent to Samsung - of course not helped me:
Hello,
Yesterday was the worst day for me.
i purchased a Samsung galaxy S4 !9505 from i private store.
when i loaded the device for the first time, i got a push update to MH8 (with the knox)
i didn't know whats ahead of me...
yesterday i tried to upgrade the version to a rooted one.
and suddenly, the wifi and the sound in the device stopped working, plus i had problems with incoming/outgoing calls.
finally, i could solve the problem with a modded version of MH8 Pre-rooted, truthfully i don't care about the root anyway.
i just wanted to check what is what, because i'm new to this whole thing.
but now, every time i boot my device, i'm afraid something will happen to it.
besides that, i understand that i can't upgrade any future version anymore, which means for me that my device is half dead already.
i'm asking you, with kind regards, help me restore my phone to its original form, so i could enjoy your updates, and google's as well
my phone is in "knox warrany void: 0x1" state as for now.

There has been a solution to the problem?
Or I got stuck and I can't upgrade?
I'm from Israel, so if you need to flash a modem or something, just so you know
Sorry my english!
Thank you!

somebody please?

Hello,
There are serveral threads about this point, please read around...
You can upgrade to new roms with the ODIN/flashable roms available, or you can set the device status to "official" to receive OTA updates.
The only thing you can't change is the knox 0x01 which is suspected to be an eFuse and therefore non-reversible (nothing 100% confirmed so far)
for questions on how to flash each thing (ODIN packages recovery flashable zips and so on) refer to the specific thread
good luck

If I as usual I upgrade to version 4.3 via Odin official from sammobile (when it is released), the wifi and sound work properly?
And how do I set the device status to "official" to receive OTA updates on my current version?
Thank you!

Hi mate - As it is for know your KNOX warrenty is void....What this means is you will not be able to use the KNOX software/locker/container (whatever you wanna call it).........for the moment this is indeffinate until one of the brilliant minds in xda figures out a way to re-set it (not gonna be easy or anytime soon).....However, your device is not lost.....all you need to do if flash any stock firmware that has the new KNOX bootloader via odin. You can find stock firmware ( you just need to look for it )...Sammobile would be a good place to start maybe? Once you have loaded the firmware you should be able to recieve OTA updates but WILL NOT be able to use KNOX stuff.
Hope this clears some stuff up for you!
EDIT - Even if you have issues via OTA you can always flash the latest firmware via odin!

Yes you can install custom roms - but when you have a custom ROM then you are very unlikely to get OTA updates....which is why odin is a great tool!
I suggest you do ALOT more reading up on this mate.....people will only help so much....This is why xda is what it is....a place for people to learn and READ READ READ

I love this forum! I just do not seem much
Before I flash the MH8 Pre-rooted, i flash customs rom (almost everyone), and all was sound and Wifi, know why?
That's why I'm asking and I'm not sure.
For example, I flash the rom costum MH8, and worked (problems Sound-WIFI), and Pre-Rooted worked, why is that?
Thank you!

Could have been kernel related....I am not entirely sure....but this is wavering from your initial opening post - Knox Problem - I Can't upgrade rom - which has been answered.......I would suggest sticking to what you know works and as I said READ ALOT because you are not the only person who has had wifi and sound issues:good:......I believe your initial issue has been answered as much as it can now. Good luck in you search for answers:fingers-crossed:

Last one from me....have you also tried to flash a new modem to fix wifi???? Try looking HERE also!
Rom and LTE modem should be the same build number. GSM modem is region dependent and can be anything you like.

One bit of advice... please work on your English sentence structure (yes it is very bad )
It is an annoying challenge to understand you without repeatedly rereading what your wrote.
Now unto more important things:
1. Please fix your initial problem by returning to stock before you ask more questions.
2. Let us know if everything is working on stock and your device is back to stock form and function.
3. Read the howto documents on this site before you proceed to ask any further questions related to rooting or rom flashing.

Here is the ODIN flashable, although there's a KJ5 which is newer. For the 7310 KJ5: ODIN image LINK, CWM Flashable LINK. Passwords can be either: "samfirmware.com" or "samsung-firmwares.com" for the ODIN zip files.

I just bought yesterday evening a p7310, so I'm new with Samsung... so let me ask you some further guestions, if you dont mind :
- the KJ5 rom flashable with Odin you 've posted is a stock rom, isn't it?
- in case that I flash it with Odin, will the counter start to count ? Hopefuly not. ..
- what region is this rom, cos I'm really looking for the latest stock European rom.
Other question a littlebit off topic : why is so sluggish this device? L ags as hell. .. although I use it with a custom rom and custom Oc kernel, I have such a feeling as the gpu is slowed by something...
Sorry for asking a lot, I'll definitely read, but now I'm just in the information collecting fase

1. Yes.
2. What counter?
3. Europe.
4. Because of the TouchWiz launcher. Use another launcher (such as ADWLauncher EX to get rid of the lag) or Overclock your device with the motley kernel to lessen it.
Flash counter only counts if you flash unofficial firmware. This is official rom, so the answer is no.

WHAT ?? Is there a counter like that!!, Does that mean that it is used in case I later on have to send my device in for warranty service to check if I have used unofficial fw? Then my warranty is not valid any more? Even if there is original fw in device at that point, and the problem is guaranteed not due to unofficial fw ....

Hmm, thank for the info, somehow it's not true for my device (P7300).
I have flashed with the ICS Alpha 1 (Galaxian-Soup) and my counter still says, Custom binary Download: No (0 counts)
Or does ICS not count as a custom binary?
If that is the case what, is a custom binary?

How did you flash our rom with Odin? It counts only if you flash something unofficial with Odin. With CWM you can flash as much as you want, this is not counted.

+1 to you sir ...
JUst flashed and was surprised.
I just flashed this to my 8.9 wi-fi that was 3.1.......
Much to my surprise none of my data/settings were wiped , it was all saved. I thought Odin wiped out everything.
Colour me surprised and happy. I can also report this image fixes lots of the issues I was having ( wi-fi not connecting , dropping out , sluggish etc ) now it's seeing my home wi-fi all of the time and seems very smooth.
But the strangest thing that wasnt fixed is that Kies ( yes I know crap program ) still wont connect to it , saying service wont start on the device. I know the Kiew works as it connects to my S2 phone and my newest toy a 7.7 3G.... Cant wait for their ICS ROMS as it should make these little devices fly.

[Q] Root without breaking warranty on locked ROM

Hi,
I am new to rooting the Galaxy S4,but found that this post works for my baseband version I9505 XXUAMDE. Although, this says "Everyone playing with this right now knows the drill..." but I don't. Where can I find more detailed explanation on how to root with this method?
Also, I have a branded, locked ROM from stock. Is it doable to extract this ROM and later flash again it to avoid any warranty issues?
In advance, thank you very much.

ODIN: I have 3 TAR files (Kernel, Recovery, Bootloader) where do they go?

Hey . I'm trying to update the modem & bootloader for my phone. However, I don't know where the modem is. I have 3 files. I suspect the BL_N9005XXUGBPB2_BOOTLOADER.tar goes into BL?
And then AP_N9005XXUGBPB2_RECOVERY.tar and AP_N9005XXUGBPB2_KERNEL.tar.md5 go into AP? Is one of these the modem driver?
In what order should I do this? Especially the 2 AP files... I'm confused about those .
I would like to also mention that my device is currently rooted, uses TWRP. I want to update to a newer TWRP and then from Android 4.4 to Android 5. I suspect that flashing a new recovery and a new kernel will mean that I also have to do that once I've updated my device's modem.
Thank you in advance!
If you download a stock ROM from Sam mobile.com, unzip it to get a tar.md5 file which is flashed in the PDA slot of Odin 3.07. This method takes the guess work out of trying to figure out what goes where.
Uh, I don't really get it. I don't have a stock ROM nor do I want one. I want to install latest modem / bootloader so then I can install an Android 5 ROM.
The recovery and kernel is stock ones so don't need it. But still you have to find a modem. There is a thread in general section.

I do love it when you guys make it difficult for me . Really, I do. I mean, you'd do ANYTHING to NOT post a link . I'm honestly not being sarcastic. But I am amused nevertheless. I did search but I will repeat: there is SO much information that I can't be sure WHAT is correct. I've already been here:

That's why I even started this topic.
I hope somebody will have the mercy to REALLY read what I ask and come up with a good answer, not vaguely-interested pointers into some vague direction.
I appreciate the time spent here by anybody, I've donated to this community and will gladly continue to do so! You guys rock. And I do appreciate even the vaguely-interested replies .

No worries bro.
You don't need to bother about these two files. Because, none of these is of your use. You are going to try a different ROM from the stock. Hence, you don't need to install Stock Kernel and Recovery. You need custom kernel which either comes with the ROM or you have to adopt a different one according to your need. As you have rooted your phone, you just need to install TWRP Manager from Play store to update your recovery, give it root access and install 2.8.7.0 recovery which is totally reliable at this point. I think it is explanatory enough

N910TUVS2EQE2 Firmware & Modem!

I made these ODIN Flashable Firmware and Modem files for myself. And figured I'd share them here for anyone wanting to upgrade their phone without having to download the entire ROM!
**** Warning!!! FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! XDA or I am not Responsible for ANY Destruction!! ****
Install Directions:
The procedure I use to install these is, In Odin Untick 'AutoReboot', then load Modem file into AP slot, Flash! When complete, Pull battery for 5 sec. Then REBOOT into Download Mode Again.
Then in Odin, load Firmware file into AP slot, Flash! When Complete, REBOOT!
Done!
N910T ONLY!!
Firmware/Bootloader:
Firmware-N910TUVS2EQE2-Firmware.tar.md5
Modem/Baseband:
Modem-N910TUVS2EQE2-Modem.tar.md5
N910T3 ONLY!!
Firmware/Bootloader:
Firmware-N910T3UVS3EQE2-Firmware.tar.md5
Modem/Baseband:
Modem-N910T3UVS3EQE2-Modem.tar.md5
Enjoy!!
They are for t or t3?
Thanks
Edit. I think they are for t only. Could you upload for t3 or explain which files to use? Can I just extract from official fimware and flash the .bin in odin? If yes, which files should I extract?

Im a little unsure about your question, so ill try to answer best I can.
Yes this can be flashed with any rom, rom doesnt matter, this is flashed in Odin! It updates your Bootloader and Modem! BUT you must pay attention to what your ROM states. Some ROMS dont work Good with certain Firmware.
About the baseband, This would update it.
Since Im new to the N910T model, Im unsure about the downgrade procedure. So You might want to check that your model can be downgraded back to DOK2 once you update. Just in case your rom dont play nice with new Firmware!!
Hope this answered your question! I added install directions to OP

to provide more information, like what happened before the phone was restarted, did you have a stock rom or a custom rom, were you trying to flash anything when it started restating, were you rooted, can you boot into recovery or download mode...all these things factor but like I said I would definitively start a new thread because your hijacking someone Else's and it has nothing to do with the topic.

Hi Guys,
I have used my T-mobile Note 4 for years since it came out. I have replace the batteries once, but like a month ago when there was an update my phone keep restarting and turning off. I then had to get another phone because of that I still cant get it to restart even after I bought a new battery, updated the firmware. can some one guide me the right way to do this right. I think I am not doing the flashing the right way.. with oldin, and the correct firmware. after I do that I get this installing updates andriod show and it stops and reboots again. please help. thanks

Yes bud, you'd get better responses making your own post in question area. As I'm not on here a lot. And only people visiting this thread are few to download this link. I just seen your post.
But since I am here I'll try my best to answer you.
Judging by your post, I'm gonna assume your were on pure stock and took an Ota that went bad? Correct?
2. If you used Odin, and noticed you didn't mention getting errors.
So it leads me to ask are you using this firmware here, because this isn't the complete rom. And that's what you want!
Let me know if this is correct? Plus explain more detail? Model T or T3? Last update you were on and file you tried flashing?
And I'll help you get correct file and such.
EQE2 Modem only on DOK2 base 5.1.1 Rom?
Anyone flash just the Modem as per my title over top a Lollipop build and get any better reception or otherwise results or is this a big no go?
There are new firmware and modem QG1, hope they can be uploaded.-

Thanks, but I think those files are only for T1 variant.
Think u' re wrong, you've said to flash bootloader in AP slot (i knew in BL). Modem baseband is CP. AP is for recovery.

Unrooting with custom ROM

Hello ROMs geeks,
Can I unroot my device N9005 while it have DarkLordN5.RC2.1.SamsungViet.vn ROM?
I don't know if that is applicable or not?
If Not?
In this case I guess I have to go back to the Stock ROM (I'm supposing so), in this case where can I have Stock ROM taking in your consideration that SamMobile.com removed all the links from the internet because SamMobile.com selling it! so I will be gratfule if someone share it with me please (that in case if unrooting can not work with the custom rom which I mentioned above)
Thank you in advance
MS.
Yes depending upon method to root used read methods instructions to unroot .
Plenty of other sources of firmware and Samm do not as you say sell it .

use unSU by osm0sis and see if it do the trick
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63615067
if it doesnt, use uninstall option on what root method you use
if it still doesnt work, flash another kernel(should be compatible with the rom youre currently using), or just install another rom(backup important stuff first) without root or go back to stock

You can download the firmware on "Samsung Firmware database" https://samdb.org/
and flash with Odin
Create an account, is better
