I was planning to unlock my bootloader today. When I tried to open the Sony ericsson page, its showing the page is under maintenance. Are you guys getting the same response from the sever? Or did Sony completely stop the bootloader unlocking?

Same question here. I tried it since yesterday and that feature is under maintenance till now. I am planning to unlock R800i. Did Sony Ericsson stop the bootloader unlocking and if so, any alternative to unlock bootloader may I know? Thanks in advance.
Well, we will see. Hopefully its just a real maintenance, but maybe they are fixing the hole which the guys used to unlock cdma phones.
Let's hope it comes back to life soon!

I guess they're fixing CDMA keys hole. Looks like Verizon isn't happy about it.
But I don't understand why it takes so long to modify some small piece of code to disable MEID calculator.
Maybe you DDOSed them too much ?

Heh, technically, I wasn't there when it crash happened, so I gave server the opportunity to recovery from requests and free up resources

succeeded, but with a little problem. Could any1 pls help me?
i followed Bin4ry's guide [How-to] Root your Play.
On the first try of flashing system with play_modded, i got some error message like android.process.acore & android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly, so I soft reset it to factory setting and flash system again and succeeded, with no error message.
But the problem is after the root process, my phone can't detect 3G network. The service provider I am using has two options, 2G and 3G, and phone can only detect 2G network.
Another problem is that although I can find WiFi networks and connect, WiFi connection is not working anymore (no data send/receive through WiFi).
If any of you know how to fix that 3G network & WiFi missing issues, kindly let me know. Thanks in advance.
One more, my rooted play is now on 3.0.A.2.184 build and when I connect it to computer, PC Companion said found new software update and ask me whether want to update or not. Rooting process will be overwritten and I will need to root it again if I update software (base 3.1.A....something I think) I would like to know.

Im assuming you have a r800i? If so, my simple recommendation would be to flash 4. Firmware. Then enter fastboot and flash dooms kernel which will automatically root it for you. Hope this helps.

For starters unlock ur bootloader again, as you need it to flash the kernel (which in my opinion is worth keeping), then go over to the developers sub forum, download the UK generic 4.0.whatever the rest of the code is firmware, flash it with flashtool, the go to doomlords thread and download his kernel. All instructions you need are in the relevant threads, easy to follow. I would link them, but I'm away from my computer at the moment. And I cant link from my phone. Sorry. Hope all goes well!

Thank you so much. It took me like 1 hr to figure all that out, but it worth
Now on 2.3.3, 4.0...368 built and 2.6.32.9-perf doomlord's Kernel.
And thanks a lot to the development team and everybody who's enlightened me on how to play with android.
It's time for [*ROOT required] application from droid market.
It's working great, really fast.

To install roms on an r800a install an r800i ftf otherwise you will get boot loops. Many r800a users have this problem and post on threads about it, hopefully this can be stickied to reduce the amount of those posts/threads.

I also recommend this but if you are flashing to ICS or JB, flash 64 baseband first from the above ftf by excluding everything except baseband.
This is done because 67 baseband results in no signal on ICS/JB roms.
Note: When flashing a new baseband, do not wipe data or cache...unless you want to.

I would suggest offering a link to the r800i FTF file in your main post too. Searching the forums can be done but if you want to draw attention to your thread, make it as simple as possible.

I think this is the right thread to ask this question. My brother in law has one of the newer plays from Alltel. It is of course CDMA n locked bootloader. I have scoured the forums n google for best way to unlock the bootloader on his phone, so I can flash Roms on it. The only site/info I find is this guys paid site where he remotes in and helps u unlock the bootloader. I figured I could do this myself, as I am pretty good at doing funky stuff to unlock/mod phones. But my attempts failed. It involved using a paperclip n running some programmer app to flash custom bootloader on it. So my question is; is it possible at all to unlock his bootloader on his Play from Alltel and be able to flash any roms at all on it? So far, all I have done is obtained root on it.. is this all that can be done with his phone? He complains constantly about it running out of space and memory, cause he plays so many damn games on it. I told him, if it were possible to flash a custom ROM on it however, it would possibly help it with those problems he hated about the phone.. can anyone chime in and direct me to right forum/site? Try getting it unlocked from Alejandrissimo. He's unlocked many play's on this forum and he charges $25 USD. I'm pretty sure that works with CDMA too. The link doesn't seem to be working but check out Xperia Unlock Service on Facebook or something. And rooting alone should allow him to delete some system apps to save space. Tell him to move stuff to SD too if possible. For the memory thing, I would just use a task manager (Gingerbread only) and maybe supercharge once he roots. DO NOT TRY TO UNLOCK IT YOURSELF. Unless the model # is r800i in that case, you can unlock yourself from the sony website.

My son updated his phone last night with the OTA 4.3 update. He asked me to root it this morning, and it fails every time. It seems that Lookout is stopping it. I disabled lookout, but it seems to be integrated in the new software. I tried every method on this forum. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

not currently for this build number, to my knowledge.
We are on the same shoes rickala.
But sooner or later a dev is gonna found a way to root it, I'll let you know when that happens.

cf auto root works on rogers, but you'll trip the knox flag. if you dont use active sync (exchange) then you may not care. can still root and run custom recoveries on rogers. Just typed up a bunch of crap on knox, so not getting in to it again, but if I were you, i'd wait for a confirmed knox safe method.

Hi Carbon, I cannot confirm if it give full root access on locked bootloader, however I am now on locked BL (relocked using Flashtool). And it's working as per, well, usual.
As mentioned in OP, I am not a dev nor am I fully aware on how partial root access will be like. At the moment, if you're referring to something like - locked BL not able to install Dual Recovery, it probably is as I'm not able to install any recovery at the moment. Troubleshooting with NUT and with unlocked BL (will update tomorrow on this, it's bed time.)
Edit : Chances are it's partial. Will look into this matter tomorrow. More updates to come tomorrow.

It's a pretty good guide!

Apologies but can I know which part is a repost? I mean, I went through these steps personally without following any guides out there. I simply made my own guide as to post in my local forum however, thought it would be great to at least share the method for .290 root, is it wrong to share some info on how to keep/retain root? Also, I am not very sure if I see any guides that gives such information here on xda yet. Krab's rooting guide is for the older firmwares.
I simply used what resources available and give it back to the community. I'm sorry if this upsets you. I'll remove op if you insist that this is a repost.

I am on 4.3 and I didn't backup my TA so this thread do not help much. Nothing what I already know.
C6903_14.2.A.0.290_Stripped.ftf from installing flashtool stays in a loop and it's not sony's image and restarts again and again.
In the links you put the file is a zip C6903_14.2.A.0.290.patch but *. With flashtool can not flash.

Oh no, he opened a thread - unlike many other guy who open threads just to say we have new update in update center - this one is really good and smart one.
Of course something will be repeated but this is a guide and NUT has ROM, that's the difference.
I must agree with some comments - XDA for Z1 isn't good, all the time we see bad comments and very little development.
In Xperia S section we had so much fun why can't we have that here?
Atmosphere just isn't right....
For a days I'm trying to force my self to do some theme MODs but if I'll get this kind of "tnx" than I'll keep it for myself.

You need to do a lot more reading. I suggest you spend a few hours reading up on things before even thinking of touching your phone, everything you need to know is on these forums. Good luck.

I agree, it sounds as if you may not fully understand what you are doing. Read up on what Odin is and what it does and what you are flashing to your phone. Do not want to end up with a brick!

Read this to get an idea about Odin and flashing http://androidcentral.us/2014/02/how-to-flash-firmware-using-odin-samsung-devices/. There are also video tutorials about Odin on YouTube mate. Follow the given advice to read up before you brick your phone
