[Q] Reboot cycle after restart help - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got my gorgeous note 3 this morning and when i updated the phone with all my settings google play started to install my apps
Half way through the phone rebooted and got stuck in a reboot cycle
I couldnt stop the cycle so ended up hard resetting it via volume up power and home (or was it volume down !)
I then found that non of my apps would install even manually i got error 920
I worked out why and removed the device from my play device list
I then installed app of my apps and rebooted the phone to make sure nothing was lurking in the memory after i had installed them
I got stuck in a cycle again and had to pull the batter
I replaced the battery and it carried on
I ended up taking my battery out for 10 mins and then it turned on normally
I tested again and once again it started the reboot cycle
I have spoken to clove technology who advised me to return the phone for a replacement which i have done
my question is has anyone had this issue ? any ideas what caused it ??
The phone was hot but not boiling hot .. i thought it might be a rogue app but it did it again on my next reset with no apps
Love the phone but dissapointed with the handset i got - fingers x the next one is perfect
Thanks in advance

My note 3 did it without the charger plugged in .
It was stock uk firmware completely untouched

I have the same issue. I have found that it is because of conflict between some apps (app), micro sd and sim card. If I put off the micro sd, its ok. If i turn on "Flight mode", its ok too. And when i have wiped my device it was ok too (with sd inserted) untill i had installed my apps (I have more than 300 of them, so its very difficult to identify, which of them causes this problem).
Hope together we will solve this problem

Its not just an app fault. I think its because of a conflict between app-microsd-sim. I have installed all my apps to internal memory, and wthout sd or when turning on flight mode before rebooting (with sd connected) - its ok. But when sd is connected, all apps are instaled and 3g is on - it causes rebbot cycle.

I'll test with installing all apps with no sad card
I'll report back
Thanks

I had the same issue and done a few tests.
What I can say is :
- when i used the phone for the first time there was no problem (SIM + SD CARD + 3G)
- when i updated the preinstalled apps (SIM + SD CARD + 3G) there was no problem
- once i installed all my apps reboot issue appeared.
I tried with or without SD CARD => No change
I tried with and with SD CARD but 3G off (Plane Mode) => No loop boot issue !
I thought maybe it was one of my apps so i restarted the phone in "Secured Mode", 3G on => reboot problem appeared again.
So this is a system (or maybe preinstalled and updated) app that's causing problem.
I think that only an updated firmware can resolve this.
One thing sure is that the booting time of this phone is really fast, about 10 sec after the Samsung logo.
So for now when i need to reboot i put the phone in plane mode first, expecting Samsung to correct this (I hope this is not an hardware issue or something fishy regarding the carrier zonning).
Anyway despite this issue i'am really glad to have this phone and haven't any regret buying it !

THANX NANI !
I tried copying apps from external to internal.. no dice..
BUT this.. this works for me.. take sim card out boot phone up and put it in airplane mode.
Power down then insert sim card boot up.. presto.. boots properly..
If I forget to put it in airplane mode before reboot I just repeat this step.. works for me 100% of the time I tried it at least 5 times..
This will be fixed with a firmware update.. I too have a UK version... untouched.. imported.. I'm in Australia.

we shouldnt have to do this , it should work out of the box without trying to get it to reboot without the loop
not impressed but hope samsung fix this asap
i have my second handset coming tomorrow , im going to install all of my apps on my handset before i install my memory card and see if that sorts it without the boot loop .. if not its going back for a refund and im getting something else (Not sure what else as nothing beats this beast)

Question for you guys and ladies who are having the issue what size memory card are you using ??
Notice that henklbr is using a 64gb memory card ... is everyone else ??
wonder if its an issue with the memory card size ??
another question did you all hve your memory card in when you were installing apps ??
has anyone tried to install without the card and then put it in once installed
i wonder if its to do with some of the apps going onto the memory card
its damn annoying and i hope samsung hurrys up and sorts it as i dont want to jump through hoops to restart my expensive smart phone

I am not rooted , do i wipe data and cache in the power up menu (power, home and volume up (or is it down) ???
never been rooted so have never seen wipe data cache before if you can help

I am not rooted too so you have to follow these steps
1- take the battery out ( just to make it happen correctly for next step)
2- Hold down the power + Vol. down + home button till you see samsung logo
3- Let go all the buttons and you will see a screen in black lying down android with exclamation mark on belly
4- From there you will have to move down the cursor with vol. down button and when the cursor is on wipe data / cache push the power button.
5- Say yes with the same type movements
6- Now you formatted your whole system and delete everything
7- Hope works for you and enjoy..

Do u have a memory card in ? If so what size ? If u did , did u install your apps with the card in ?
I wonder if it's a memory card issue

As there's not boot loop on "plane mode", I tried to reboot with "plane mode off" but without the SD Card => phone goes in boot loop.
So I tried withoud the SD Card and without the SIM Card => phone made 2 reboot before being able to stabilize.
So, after a hard reset, there's no issue even with SD card and SIM inserted ... But after software update and apps installed, phone goes insame ...
As SIM Card and SD Card are using the same slot, maybe there a "memory conflict" ... Something that could be related to the firmware (as from a fresh start there's no problem).

Help

Hey every one I'm new to xda and I got my samsung vibrant rooted with the stock system recovery and was working fine but than I decided to do some apps and file transfer from another android phone to it and after that my phone kinda froze on me. So I rebooted the phone and boom nothing happen after the galaxy s animation, its just stuck there then the screen went black out. I rebooted again and this time I went to the sustem recovery mode and try to do the data reset but it couldn't fix it either. I tried to connected to my computer but since the phone wasn't fully booted into the home screen my computer are unable to detect the phone driver. I reconnect the phone and computer together, and this time I got to where it say's "downloading" "do noy turn off target", what is that mean? is it download something or is that I'm suppost to do something to it. Please can someone help me out. I've already download the stock firmwire but couldn't be able to transfer to the mass storage cos the phone couldn't boot beyound the galaxy s animation and eventhough its in the system recovering I still couldn't get it to connect to the phone mass storage. What can I do to fix it?.
You can take the battery out at that screen, but I don't know if it's going to fix your overall issue.
Take sd out. Hook to computer with adapter. Move stock nandroid to sd. Replace sd in phone. Boot into clockwork recovery. Restore nandroid. Reboot.you are now stock with root.
one thing
I know what I did is stupid but at lease I learn my lesson. I would really appreciate if someone could help me out.
help
I tried but its not working cost the phone doesn't read what's on the sd card it read only the mass storage which is the 14g not the 2g memorycard.
The SD card won't be in the phone so of course it won't read from it. It will read from the interbal memory, so do it from there.

Turn off the phone, take out the battery and take out the SD card, try to get your hands on a sd card reader for your card so you can fix what you did without using your phone to mount it. Copy the rom or stock firmware over to the card and use the recovery, wipe data/factory reset and then try to load up the stock firmware. if all else fails do a hard reset:
To hard reset Samsung Vibrant, follow the steps below:
Step 1. Turn your Samsung Vibrant off. If your Samsung Vibrant is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it.
Step 2. Hold the Volume Down button.
Step 3. Press and release the Power button.
Step 4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button, then press and release the Power button.
Step 5. Choose one of these: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO. If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Samsung Vibrant.
That is for the default recovery so depending on the recovery you are using try to wipe everything and flash the ROM from the sd card, if you need help PM me or contact me on chat.andirc.net #droideris, or irc.andirc.net #droideris
Best of luck!

Galaxy S i9000 (Bell Mobility) wont start

Galaxy S i9000 (Bell Mobility) wont start. Rooted with LagFix.
HELP!!! I cant get anywhere. Can anyone solve this
What happens: it starts up with logo and sound and then to a black screen. Any attempts end up with the same result
What I did prior:
1 installed CacheMate for Root Users and busybox
2 tried CacheMate for Root Users (didnt want it)
3 uninstalled busybox (when I installed, I noticed it showed 2 other versions installed. I searched and manually deleted them)
4 phone shut off unexpectedly
How I tried to fix:
1 tried to reboot
2 pulled battery tried reboot
3 pulled sd card tried reboot
4 pulled sim/sdcard tried reboot
5 vol+ home pwr
6 vol- home pwr
7 pwr menu
8 even tried heat up trick in desperation
vol+/vol- + home + pwr are disabled
can't restart to apply 3 button fix > can't get into recovery > can't reflash without 3 button recovery
do you remember if the USB debug mode is enabled or disabled?
if it's enabled, then you can let it boot and do the
adb reboot recovery
or
adb reboot download
if that doesn't work the only way to fix is to send it back to the store for repair
If it goes to the Logo screen, then when it goes black if the back and home buttons still light up your internal sd card has crashed and you need to send it in for repair at bell

It's bricked... internal SD is fried.
To confirm, if you can get into Upload Mode, flash a 2.2 ROM, which will give you the ability to get into Recovery mode... once in recovery mode, it will show you the Internal SD error that I'm talking about...
Take it back to the store before your 30 days are up - no use trying to waste time fixing it...
Happened to me as well. I was on my 10th+ firmware flash. Went to JPD or whichever 2.2 came right after JPC. I install RyanZa's OCLF and within one hour it crashed and wouldn't boot.
I was able to run JM8 or any 2.1 Firmware but without Internal SD. I was just running off the internal 2gb partition that it created off the external SD when it can't find the internal SD. Thats why when the internal SD is corrupt, the phone won't boot into android without the external SD installed.
In the end it was 2 days before my 30day replacement, so I took it to bell and had it replaced.
Running stock update 1 for bell (JH2) with Voodoo 4 on current replacement.
Hey, I also have this problem. I originally bought it semi bricked. The phone was not even showing the boot screen, but I managed to flash so now it does the above.
What are mu options here. Im not a Bell Client so they won't give me a replacement. I'd prefer not to spend money sending it in, but will if i have to. But i doubt that bell would take it in even if I did pay because im not their customer...Telus obviously doesn't support the Galaxy so I can't go to them either.
How were you able to get it running off your memory card? I don't mind doing that actually!
I had this happen to me once before and and i did a factory reset and i worked perfectly! and now its happened again and i believe my internal sd is fried! kinda really sucks

Suddenly in safe mode

When I woke up this morning (by my phones alarm) I found the phone in safe mode with all my apps missing. A simple reboot fixed it, but I really wonder whether anyone else has seen this and has any idea why it happened.
according to the uptime in phone information there has been no reboot and as I was sleeping it want me doing something either. So for some reason Android just decided to restart itself in safe mode...
Jpy with voodoo 5.2
it is said safe mode is caused by changing the sim of some error with the SD card

No.. The phone enters to safe mode when you start it while hitting (touching) the menu key. It has already been discussed in the forum.
You can anytime boot it to safe mode by touching continuously the menu button after pressing the power button.

Ok i will show what i done to make it work.
1. Remove Sim card.
2. Turn on phone
IF it show "Memory card not working" go to step 3
3. Turn off phone.
Hold Camera button and press Power button.
Phone will show image connect phone to pc. when you connect you can recovery phone from last backup.
But dont do that.
Just hold power button til phone off.
4. Now turn on phone again. If it pass, it will boot to norman, but without Sim card. it Will show Sim error.
Leave it at this. and connect to Zune. and make update.
Note. Phone will random reboot when connect to Zune.
I retry 4 step above until Zune update it to OS 7.10.8107.79 and my phone work well after that.
Note2. You can try flash phone to stock Mango be for do 4 step above.
I use LG-E900AT-00-V10p-234-15-SEP-02-2011+0_DZ to flash my phone.
ok thanks, now it makes more sense, but I'm stuck on trying to get how you want to update, if phone is already up to date??????
anyways, i can't try it right now, because my phone is on repair, and I'm shure they'll last a month. I got the big probability, that I won't get the phone repaired in warranty, because they'll see that its Vodafone Brand instead of OPN. so i'll try your method. I don't think the phone is phisically damaged, it doesn't make any sense, an SD card is hard to damage. what I suspect, is that there's some fragmentation problem, and the memory card need some sort of scandisk or format. Sincé its not posible doing it manually, the way of reflashing or updating the phone, seems to make the job. my only fear is, what will happen if the phone reboots during the process, but It wont happen if its only a fragmentation issue.
Is it still covered by warranty? Send it to service and don't bother. And if they can't repair it, ask for money back.
I got my Optimus from service (rebooting) - it was fine for a month and starts reboot again. I bought it one year ago and under European law I still have one year more. I expect to get my money back because what I see it is just factory fail, no qualify for repair.
LG fixed the phone for me, but they screwed up with the ambient light sensor (didn't work anymore). So they gave me a new mainboard...

Thanks for posting this, I fixed the memory card issue using the above steps. However, I encountered the same issue again a day later, but again it was fixed using the above steps. This seems to be software related issue and not hardware as if it was hardware issue I shouldn't be able to fix it using the above steps.
I am going to try and revert back to previous Windows phone version.
This is hardware error. Nothing can help.

hello
can you please tell me what stock rom is
I had this problem befor 4 days and i become veru angri. I put it in the desk. Today I tried to turn on the phone again and surpriсе. It works again, without problems or crashes. It has fixed from himself without my intervention. Sorry for my bed English
This is a hardware problem !!
All the solutions given above will work, but only for a short period of time.
When you try to download apps to your phone and reach a certain amount of memry usage, the error will come back again.
Been there, tried this ! The only real fix is to send your phone to LG. I got it back and it was working again :good:

helppppppp
My Pro Plus has started doing the same since mid-April.
So far, I've tried removing some apps but nothing has been effective in locating the source of the problem.
Logcat hasn't given me much help.. fatal errors seem to happen with no single app/process.
It'll reboot probably a maximum of 4 times over.. once which gives no phone reception before settling.
So far, I've found that the phone behaves itself with the SD card removed.
I've tried reformatting the SD card before copying all my files back over to it.
I've tried rebuilding the Android folder on the SD card.
My next step is to try moving my files to a completely different MicroSD.
It might be a few days until I can get hold of one to try.
I have about 5GB free on my 16GB card.. I'm wondering if there's a limit to how much data sitting on a card that Gingerbread can take.
I have a rooted phone.
