[Q] just switched back to Android, quick question. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im pretty interested in putting CM on my s4, even though everyone seems to be going in a different direction now....Im not rooted yet, and I cant seem to find a tutorial anywhere on how to root AND put CM on my phone, because I have the me7 update. Is it even possible, or not worth doing? Im not really worried about it being complicated, just if its at all possible.
Sorry if this isnt the correct place for this!

The easiest thing to do is to download the stock/rooted i9505 odin flash rom and flash it.
It is pre-rooted so all you need to do is to odin flash cwm recovery or download goomanager
from play store (free app) to your phone and the latest TWRP recovery with it.
Here is the link for downloading the Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 stock rooted rom:

Good luck!

[Q] assistance for an android caveman user

Ok so having just come into the world of android i have done some digging on the site before i created a post because i honestly felt absolutely lost. I have a I337 MDL 4.2.2 galaxy S4 in my posession. I previously was not interested in any custom ROMs or rooting in particular, however i ended up rooting my phone using the motochopper tool a while back. since the release of jellybean 4.3 i have been desperately searching for a way to get the upgrade, however my OTA updates don't work because I'm always told to try again in 24 hours, even though i know full well the update is available. I am not sure if this is due to me using the phone in the caribbean where i live,or it being rooted. However, since the MDL baseband seems to be some sort of software gold,I would like to install a custom rom,and i really really need instructions so simple that an idiot would get it,cause I seem to not be getting this at all. Any redirections to other threads would be appreciated, such as GoldenEye which seems to be a decent ROM based on my internet travels lol. Also if there is a way to bypass all the drama and simply do the OTA update to 4.3,it would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for any rules broken or annoyances created and appreciate any help I can get.

As xBeerdroiDx said, do not take the update. The easiest thing to do is use the CASUAL root method, and then you can use the custom recovery it installs to flash StockUp MK2 if you want the 4.3 update as that way you can get it and still keep your custom recovery to change at any time. You may need the MK2 modem from the thread if your cell and data service stops working right but it should be good.

[Q] Just got the note 3 need help

So I've checked a few forums and I havent really found the answer Im looking for.
I rooted my device with towelroot. and im having issues now where it restarts constantly.
I need to flash a new ROM but I cant find a forum that has something akin to CWM
and i see everywhere about some kind of new patch that doesnt allow anyone to do anything.
Im so confused as to what I can do with my phone now.
All I want is a new ROM I'm so tired of stock

If you are on NC4 then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543386
and scroll to this post
"IF YOU ARE ON NC4 (Official VZW OTA) Follow The Below Instructions

WHAT YOU DO WITH YOUR DEVICE IS COMPLETELY YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY". You will need to Odin the NC2 kernel for all Roms except Jasmine 2.3.2

S4 I377 Frustrated

I know a lot of you guys say search. Well I have searched to the point of frustration.
My ATT GAlaxy was on 4.2, MF3. Yesterday I did manage to get it to 4.4, mk2. It is rooted and safestrap installed.
Seem when I serach I find this or that rom cant be used with safestrap, you need CWM. But wait, CWM doesn't work on my phone. Seems there is a catch 22 , everyplace.
I would just like to find a rom I can put on without big issues. I looked at Cm11 but same deal.
HELP
THanks

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T350 - Rooting and Stock Rom backup?

So I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T350.
I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to get it rooted, as well as to back up the stock ROM. I'm pretty new new to android, so I'd like to make sure that I'm able to reverse any software-related damage I might inadvertently do to the tablet, but mostly I'm just looking to root it - and if I can only get it rooted, then I'll just avoid software related fiddling until I find out how to back up the rom.
Thanks!
Edit: Oh! and I'm presently running 5.0.2 lollipop.
Hi, thank you for using XDA assist. There is not a root method for your specific device on XDA. You could try this, http://www.xda-developers.com/root/ But it's probably best not to fiddle with it. Make sure you know how to return your device to stock with odin before you try any root methods just in case something goes bad.

Could you, perhaps, point me in the direction of doing this, if I'm even able? I have no knowledge of Odin, thus far, although I have seen the program name a few times.
Here's a good starting point, http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...08-2013-odin-3-09-odin-1-85-versions-t2189539 . Note that some of the Odin download sites can be a little sketchy so go to something you recognize.

Is lollipop worth it?

Hey guys!
Im a noob when it comes to installing ROMs and crap like that into phones (never done it), so even after looking at alot of threads about lollipop on s4 im wondering. Is it worth the time and effort i need to go through to get it because im running an unlocked version so i cant get updates from at&t. Chances of bricking? Oh and i was wondering do i need a sd card to do all of this? Can i do this from my phones internal storage?
Many thanks in advance.

What system version are you currently on? Check your baseband in the About section of your settings. Depending on which it is, the process is different, but you can do it from internal storage either way.

The tutorials ive seen gave some terminology im not up to par with it :/
Thank you for the help!
Is anyone there willing to help?

It's mostly personal preference, but if you're already rooted then it's not very difficult to do. If you want to just use stock Lollipop with root it's as simple as install Safestrap, flash the OC4 ROM, and flash the kernel. I can get you links for that if you want. If you want a custom ROM, you'll have to also flash the SuperSU Beta file and the correct modules for either the OC3 or OC4 kernel, which isn't difficult. I can get you links if you want to go ahead with either of those, if you want a custom ROM though you'll have to pick one out yourself.

I ran into this => http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814
Will it do the job for me? Seems easier than what you described - But i still dont get step number 7. How do i do that Odin's PDA/AP thing?
If you dont wanna be bothered with what i just asked, continue with your own method, if its safer.
Sooo, umm anyone else there in the community, knows how to do this and walk me through?
Pliz.

muniz_ri's thread that you linked is the preferred method for someone in your situation to accomplish what you want to do. The instructions are all there. Read through the instructions several times until it makes sense to you. If there is something you don't understand, ask specific questions. It is better (for you) if we don't hold your hand and walk you through everything, because you will learn more if you do it yourself.
Regarding: "Is it worth it?"
It's personal preference. I find the ui improvements in 5.0.1 not great...they are minor or in some cases they seem like down grades.
But I do find the phone noticeably snappier and faster in most tasks. I've had no glitches or fc in the week since I upgraded (I think most of the people complaining about problems about 5.0.1 took the ota without doing a reset) And you'll have the latest security updates also.
If you do upgrade, you have choice of odexed stock or deodexed stock. I'd recommend deodexed if you think you might want to use xposed in the future.
Installed it
In my experience 5.0.1, with its huge constant 1GB Ram usage (without apps or bloatware running and grenify too), was pretty meh. The design of things looks good and all but i personaly think that kitkat did it better RAM wise (Constantly on 500MB), and for that reason, I switched back. I did not experince any snappier or faster performance but i would say it was the same. All in all, if you want flashy and a good looking android phone without loss of performance, but only 800MB free RAM, go for it.
The only thing i learnt from all of this was, how android stuff actually works. So much searching of things lead me to learning more and more. Never had i ever used odin or flashed any firmware. This whole proccess went with some fright within me, but as long as you follow the steps correctly, there is nothing you should be afraid of.
