Rooting and Titanium backup issues. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got the white variant yesterday, rooted using the toolkit in the Dev forum, also updated to 4.3 before that.
Bottom line is when I install titanium, I cant backup because I get a storage space error. I was able to backup once but then none of my apps stick, meaning no backups can be found even tho I just backed them up.
Lastly, I lost root after flashing Slim and Carbon. I have root with PA, though.
Thanks.

Try changing backup storage location in titanium backup preferences. Hit detect, whole device, then try changing that. I have seen people say use the legacy location in 4.3, but I have had trouble with the storage error using that. Right now storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup is checked on mine.

This is what happens when I do that...

Try the legacy location. Then hit use the current folder.

I can't do that, though. My screen shot shows that error when I hit the Detect button. Also, how do I get around the issue if Not enough space when trying to back up. I have the new pro version

ok my friend couple questions what size is your phone and also do you have backups on there already. Was your backup from 4.2? I ask about that because file system changed and thats why you were instructed to try the other folder options. Now also are you properly rooted and using es file explorer or my favorite root explorer?
There are a few factors to figure out when resolving your issue but your question quite honestly is all over the forum and maybe a little searching may help you find your answer. If not post more here so we can figure it out...

Alright, my Nexus is the 16gb white version, a newer one because it has those two little bumps on the back to help against glass damage. Also I updated officially to 4.3...THEN rooted, flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0, flashed PA and installed a handful of apps, including ES EXPLORER. I had a previous version of Titanium Pro, which wouldn't let me backup (got the error stating storage capacity), I tried to choose a different backup location and selected "Whole Device", then immediately get the "no back up folder" error.
I then went to the play store, installed the newest trial version of Titanium...and I WAS able to backup, but as soon as I would restart my phone, the backups would disappear. BUT they backups are still stored in my ES explorer in a default folder: /storage/Titanium/Backups (the text may not be exact but the location is right).
So bottom line is that I can't access the folder which holds my backups...thru Titanium. I can see them when I open ES, though.

Here is a screenshot of my TB folder and showing how much space I have can you do the same

My device is brand new, I have like 12gb left on my phone, so the storage problems is an error.

May I suggest you backing up that folder and doing a complete wipe of your phone but make sure you can transfer a Rom over if needed

I am by no means a noob, but this one has really got me.

You shouldn't try off...
Anyway , uninstall it delete its cache and data , flash the latest superSU , reinstall , be sure USB debugging is on , detect and choose legacy folder , if no backup folder detected do a small one , retry to detect and chose legacy , use current location

Apk can't install due to n7 thinking not enough space

OK title kinda says it all. I have 4.28 GB left on my 16gb n7 trying to install a couple apps from apk files. I'm getting a warning that it can't install due to not enough memory and the n7 requests that I remove apps. The files don't go over 40mb in total so I'm confused as hell as to why its telling me I'm short non file space.
I tried fixing permissions clearing cache and dalvik but no luck. Anyone have a clue as to why it thinks this.
Running stock 4.2 unlocked rooted with trinity kernel.

It might be b/c when the apps you're going to install will be updated in the future and the N7 has a built in limit in other words the apps will go beyond the limit good luck and GOD BLESS YOU Oh yeah you might have to bite the bullet and delete some other apps

You probably have a left over .odex file for an app left in /system/app
Titanium backup has an option to look for orphaned dalvik files as well.
I had the same issue. I downloaded "Lucky Patcher" (google it) and went to Menue>Troubleshooting>Remove fixes and backups
That fixed the problem for me.
I have the same issue. I'm trying different approaches. About the post above... It won't let me install lucky patcher either. I'll try doing it in adb next.

I had the same problem and tried several things to fix.. The only solution to the problem was to indeed use Lucky Patcher... Use it to clear and then reboot and back to happy application installation...

It's because you have orphaned Odex files in system/app or data/app
Naughty naughty. Usually created by a cracked app.
Lucky Patcher makes the Problem go.

You need to use TWRP to make this work in recovery. You can change the backup location in Titanium under preferences. Stickmount does work for Titanium, though not flawlessly (sometimes you need to mount a few times). I switched to CraigGomez's ROM which has built in OTG support and it works great!

Ah! Maybe you can answer this as I've posted this several times about TWRP/GooManager usage.
In TWRP you can select to backup to your flash drive, now with the ROM you are using, on a reboot, is the destination of external still selected or do you have to remount/select every time? If so, using GooManager, the reboot into TWRP should still have the external card destination selected.

I'm stock OTA 4.2.1 and although it should have the latest Gapps, I let Goo Manager look for the latest. I installed it, reboot, did the Android update but when the desktop came up, it show "picasa has stopped working" and some sort-of Google process had problems. I rebooted again and it went through the same process including the Android updating process along with the errors. I restored a backup to fix the problem.
If you look at this Gapps page: http://www.teamandroid.com/gapps/, it should have selected the first file but instead it selected the second one down. I emailed them, no reply. I posted at RootzWiki, Goo.im section. One reply from the moderator which they stated that I'm on 4.1 which I've never been on or a Custom ROM and that's the Gapps suggested by the Dev. I replied back and so far, nothing from them.
I've been having issues with the GooManager Tapped file on my N10. I think it's corrupt.
Here's the one I've been using that works. (Dropbox link) http://db.tt/c5JMBBzn

[Q] CWM on Nexus 4, doesn't stay installed, why?

I have my Nexus 4 now Boot loader unlocked, rooted, busybox installed etc using the Toolkit 1.3.0 with the 4.2.2 files from the official thread, however when I try to install a recovery the touch one just won't work (keep getting an android with his belly open an a red exclamation triangle symbol).
CWM installs but when I boot into CWM and then exit, it gives me a message about the default recovery reinstalling or something, I can't remember the exact message because I had several things to do between getting a chance to post this and when I tried to install it.
From efrant's nexus 4 101 sticky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010338
I just flashed CWM, but every time I try to boot into CWM, I keep seeing the stock recovery. Why?
If you updated your Android build using an OTA update file (either manually or over-the-air), the update placed two files on your device that re-flash the stock recovery every time you reboot your device. These two files are:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh <== this is the script that installs the patch file
/system/recovery-from-boot.p <== this is the patch
You have to rename (or delete) one or both of them, then re-flash your custom recovery. Now it will stick.

There's your problem right there lol. Waking up every 2 hours for feeding or do you take turns with your partner? :silly: I normally did it because I sleep lightly and I usually put the baby back into the crib and sleep on the comfy rocking chair. Now forward 4 yrs later, my lil one sleeps in a big ol bed but still uses a security blanket.
Congrats on the lil one and treasure all the 3am feedings. They grow up faster than Google releasing Nexus'
Haha Aww we take turns I do one she does one etc. Unless circumstances arise! Like appointments or meetings, doctors and stuff.
Usually I'm happy enough to do whatever feeds my partner asks me to do I enjoy the feeding and changing. Most nights the baby is good and she goes over her bottle if she sleeps we let her sleep until she is ready for the bottle.

Right I finally found the folder, seems deleting the backups does nothing it's all in the blobs and had to delete them through root explorer (I only made the backups to check)
But these backups aren't the same, I've never dealt with blobs before? Usually they were in the /backup folder each backup was in seperate large gb+ file
Sounds like you're using an old CWM build as they stopped using blobs a while ago

With Android 4.2, /data/media/0/ was added to /data/media for each user (../1 and ../2). With Titanium Backup, this moved the backups into that 0/ directory. The default backup folder is now set to /storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup (symlink to /data/media/0/TitaniumBackup).
The fix to simply change to default directory to /storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup. It points to the same folder but Titanium Backup likes it better. You can find this in Menu > Preferences > Backup folder location. Press <Back> to go up one and then select /storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup. Then select 'Use the current folder'. Hope this helps!
Worked!

So, if TB is using Ext SD card for a backup location, creating a legacy folder isn't necessary? 4.3 roms will recognize the backups?

Hello everyone,
My problem is that TiBU recognize my folder which contains my backups but when I try to run a restore/backup there is no app showing.
My backups are located in /storage/sdcard1/TitaniumBackup. I tried to change the folder directory to /storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup but the backups files are just not transferring (0-547 backups transferred). The backup directory is /storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup but I still can't run any backup. Is this happening because my backups are located on my SDcard (sdcard1) ?
I've got this problem since I upgrade to Slim Bean 4.3 Rom. I did update to SuperSU 1.65 but it didn't solve the problem.
Thank you very much for your help!

I've got this problem since I upgrade to Slim Bean 4.3 Rom. I did update to SuperSU 1.65 but it didn't solve the problem.
Thank you very much for your help!

Yes, I am getting this too. It does not move the backup files automatically and sits at 0/???. I went in via ES File Explorer and moved them manually, TB picked them up in the new path but still no joy restoring, both apps and data crash.
S4 I9505, Stock ROM, XX UEMJ5. I also had the problem with KNOX, but froze the app from running which fixed the "Grey Shield Of Death"
Any ideas anyone?

Error -24 on Google play store

I've done searches and I can't find anything on it.
I'm trying to install ROM toolbox pro, something I've bought a long time ago, and I get that error and it doesn't install. How can I fix this?

Why this has not been fixed i do not know.
There are one of two problems that i know of that cause this.
1- there's some sort of remnant of a previous install still on your device and it won't install over the old files.
Find the folder and delete it or all the contents.
2- Something is screwy with the playstore app or google play services.
(going from memory here) clear cache of both apps and reset to factory versions. (you may have to clear data as well)
Visiting the play store will update the app again and things should work. you may need to restart your device.
This has been a problem since at least 2.2. I can't imagine a casual user is going to want to do the work to fix this very often if at all.
I'll have to check it out when I get home, I can't really do it at work

Worked! Thank you. I deleted the folder related to the app in data/data while in recovery. Installed fine
