Root Note 3 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to root Note 3?

Not yet!

Doh, I was just wondering the same thing.

I was wondering if there was a way to root it yet after seeing and 3-4 post in the general section, of people saying they will root their phones later in the day. I haven't found any way to root it yet.

Install cwm recovery and flash supersu.zip in recovery and you have a rooted note3.

Any suggestions/ideas for the N9000 model? The CWM recovery is for 9005.

Lol its not that easy. I don't think they got around the boot loader yet

I'm also waiting for root but first of all the Knox counter reset is the most important thing.

There is not gonna be a Knox reset......who cares that's what insurance is for and there is not word whether a Knox trip voids the actual device warranty

it is not only warranty. for people who are using the phone in persona/business scenario - KNOX is very good solution.
many companies are using iphones just because of this security issue.
and now Samsung will be able to be "corporate" supplier of devices due to KNOX.

I found the Odin and instructions for n9005 recovery Image.i have the n9000 international version. Odin finished and I see the superuser app, but no SU or root.
do I need to wait or do something different?

There is a chainfire zip you have to flash after you flash the recovery through odin. Check the Android development section and there is a guide for a rooted rom. He has a link to the zip. Please read that thread first. I will not have my note 3 till the 12th so I haven't done it yet.

Just a few questions for you b0Ne83:
1) Apparently you used the N9006 application?
2) Does this trip the knox counter?
3) And, does it erase all your data after rooting?
Thanks bro!

How do I check to see if knox counter is tripped ?
I've rooted a lot of devices and this was by far the easiest. Nothing to it really. Just had to figure out how to put the note 3 in debugging mode (which you press about phone 7 times or something like that )

You shutdown your phone and hold home volume down and power till you are in download mode, hit ok which I think is vol up. It tells you. Then it shows the phonestatus.
Ok just got some new info
It does say custom under samsung
However under knox is reads "0x0"
Is that what yours reads ?

That is GREAT news that the knox counter is not tripped as Samsung and the amazing Chainfire state it is totally NOT reversible. Which means your phone's warranty is void and you won't be able to upgrade to any future official update ever again. Here's a link to a good article on it.
http://omegadroid.co/wanted-knox-void-warranty-0x1/
As for mine it reads official not custom as my phone is still stock. I'm treading lightly as you will understand if you click my link and read the short article...

That is correct. No wiping data or factory reset needed. This just gives you root permission. Super user, Titanium backup, and addaway all running smoothly.

my phone came with the mk2 update from sprint so is there any way to root it and have a custom recovery? im not worried about tripping knox if that matters. also does the cf-auto root method work with the full mk2 update?

The method is for Verizon GS4, can you reconfirm that its working for Spring L720 too?
Thanks
I can confirm that it worked for my Sprint MK2 4.3. I should mention that when I started the instal bat and the command prompt screen popped up telling me to hit any key to continue, nothing happened. I "x'd" out of command prompt and started the install bat again and it worked no problem. I have done this a total of 3 times now. All on Sprint MK2 4.3 and all successful. I checked each time with root checker to ensure root access.
I can also confirm that Safe Root tool was able to root my Sprint L720 MK2-based 4.3 Galaxy S4. I had Odin'ed back to stock MK2 days ago. I haven't tried the SafeTrap Recovery yet so I can back-up/install custom ROMs.

Thanks for the confirmation as it assured me enough to go ahead and root... and as confirmation on my end that it worked!!
One question though... as I'm now rooted, it's been mentioned that when you boot the device up you should see a "Custom" banner during boot because things have been changed. On my device I never see this and was wondering if that's the case on yours as well.
I can also confirm that QBKING&&s root method works for mk2 build..so does goomanager for installing twrp and disabling knox. Jut dont try the MJA native hotspot mod...i followed the video to the t and am now stuck in a boot loop

[Q] Consequences of rooting Note 3?

I know that if I root my Note 3, that will trip Knox. Personally I am prepared to risk that. But reading odd bits here and there I have heard mention of e-fuse?
And that this can mess up the hardware?
Is that correct? And what triggers it?

Nothing will affect your hardware, rooted my phone in the first day.
Just read root/rom threads for your device carefully and follow all instructions to avoid any hard or soft brick.

Also rooted my Note 3 the first day. Tripped knox and never looked back. I would also suggest to root using cf-autoroot via Odin mode. Just search for it in the forums. Worked for me every time. Also if you like to install custom ROM so that you can use your Note 3 to its full potential.
Use kingo root it will not trigger knox. But you cant flash a custom recovery that will trigger knox. But rooting with kingo you can still mod your phone to the fullest.

How to root note 3

Hey people I would like to know how to root a note 3 with this specifications.
I'm new in this world so pls explain well.
Thanks for your help.
Search for towelroot, not much to explain. Please search before you ask such a basic question answered in a zillion threads.
Try to find..
Waranty safe is Towelroot
Or you can flash a custom recovery and use SuperSU.
Or use CF-auto-root
And then for installing a Custom ROM it isn't needed to unlock bootloader or something like that?

But you need custom recovery and this step void Knox to 0x1.

Hello everyone,
I have just one month old galaxy grand prime SM G530H.
i have not rooted my device, and recently installed philz touch recovery 6 on my device using odin but it flagged my knox counter to to 0x1.
That means my warranty is lost. can anyone help me?

First of all, I believe, most of the people using XDA forums possess enough eyesight to view things in normal font. (and if not, there are numerous tools available to help them read or even listen to what is written). So you don't need to make your writing so big and bold that looks harsh. If you want to emphasize, you can use emoticons/smilies (that is what they are meant for). I don't want to be rude but to keep this platform clean and nice is OUR responsibility. Hope you don't mind.
As for as your problem, I think you have to flash back the stock recovery and (even the stock rom if the problem persists). Do some more research before taking any step or wait for solutions from experts. I believe guys will see your post soon
Best of luck :good:

Rooting or Installing Custom Recovery = Knox 0x1. There's nothing you can do about it. You cannot change it back to 0x0. It is permanent. No more warranty.
For the error you need to disable knox. Read here on how to disable knox.

As much as I know for now, the knox once tripped is impossible to recover. May be there is some hardware switch thing associated with it. Anyhow, I think it does not make much difference because knox can only be a problem if you ever want to reclaim your warranty or re-sale the device. In my case, I am 99% sure that the device is working perfect to my needs and I don't have to claim the warranty or resale it within the warranty period. So if you don't have to claim warranty and also you don't want to re-sale, tripped knox is nothing to worry about
best of luck :good:
