A little worried on Available RAM - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

We know the Adreno 330 takes a lot of RAM, it says in this video only 2440mb of ram is available.
That doesn't shock me. What shocks me is after the guys is running the video and in the screen shot it says available ram.
Note 2 610mb available :good:
Note 3 270mb available!!!

What do you guys think? Will this be an issue?
My htc one X has more available RAM than that! and its horrible at multitasking :crying:

That's shocking where is all the ram gone looks like little pacman inside the phone has been busy crunching all those megs of ram ouch.

Yep !
Same problem here. I think that we'll need to wait the root for the N3 to clean up trash apps.

No need to worry.
I made a thread about it since I saw a screenshot of CPU-Z stating that were only 14% of free memory.
But I was reassured in the thread I created since I got some details regarding the overall free RAM you can get on boot : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45750359&postcount=19
So you can expect, straight out of the box, an average of 1Gb of Free RAM to play with at your leisure !

There's already a thread on it and all things related to ram was covered so no need to continue this again.

No need to worried. I am the user of Note 3, didn't face any RAM not enough yet since purchase start use yesterday.

I myself just tried out a note 3 in a Samsung Mobile Store and it has about 1Gb of free RAM after clearing the memory. If you let the phone run without doing anything you just loose 200Mb.
Plus Android's VM ans the launcher take 400mb!

The 2GB ram on the device must accommodate both the operating system and graphics Ram before any apps are loaded. So what you see is normal. This is no different for laptops. Also the 16 or 32 GB internal storage shows less after formatting and Android OS plus Google apps (Gapps) are installed. At least with the Nexus 10 you have much less bloatware compared to other Tablets (eg. Samsung).

Thanks for you answer 3Dsammy.
I understand that you use RAM when things are installed, But I still dont get it. When I was on stock it showed in settings 2 gb RAM. And now Hardware info (app) System RAM 1097?. Same with Clean sweeper.

Nexus 10 has never shown 2gb available, I've had it since launch and I believe the most I've ever seen was back on 4.2 was about 1400MB or so, and it has gone down from there on each update. You never get what they advertise on the box, every single one of my devices has less than whats advertised, my Note 3 is supposed to have 3gb available, but really its only 2.38 after its said and done..
1098 is normal on 4.4.2 for N10, I've attached a shot from mine ... I can only assume most of it is being reserved for the GPU and its super high resolution.

Hi,
As already stated here, just clearing a little the information for you .
The Nexus 10 has a huge screen resolution, therefore it requires a more powerful GPU, even having a pretty powerful graphic processors which is the MALI, it's not powerful enough for the 1600p screen, so they allocated ≈1GB to the graphic unit to prevent any possible issues.
Also, there are some apps running in background, so it takes some RAM too.
Hope this clarifies a little ,

Thank for your help:good:
I did notice that with slim kat 4.2.2 I have 1647 ram available and with 4.4.2 slim kat I had 1099.
so I thought that Kit Kat uses less RAM but I don't really see it with those comparisons.

What size ram have i got???

Hi Guys
I recently got myself a NOTE 3 (Clone) from DHgate which was nice and cheap and arrived in decent time frame.
The listing said 1GB RAM
But when ever I do a test (Antutu/CPU-Z or anything else) it shows RAM at 461 - the seller is still claiming it is a 1GB RAM even after I sent him several screen shots?
I really need to know as I will claim back the difference in price if he (as I suspect) sent me a 512mb or less RAM
I do understand the ROM and a few APPS will take up some of the RAM but not like 400mb+ surely???
Thanks in advance guys:fingers-crossed:
My device take about 500-600 MB on RAM by just using the OS. With all my apps it about about 700 MB, so I do think that it might be 1GB memory on your device.
I would have thought that at least One of these tests would have shown how RAM has been used and therefore how much was left though?
All I can see is 461mb RAM with around 71mb used?
I have just tested again using "Android Assistant" app, and same results showing 461 system RAM?
In other words the tests are showing that the "System" RAM is 461mb Hence my utter confusion?
Phone is on 4.2.2 not sure if that info helps
Some of the RAM may be allocated to GPU.
Should have just gotten the real thing, you get what you pay for. I'd request my money back and find a real note 3.

Tbh that's what you get for buying clones... you can never trust the specs they give you.
You best bet to verify it is totry uninstalling or freezing some system apps to see if the overall RAM increases.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
I actually used "Titanuim" to Freeze a sxxt load of apps, but the Ram didn't seem to get any higher after another Antutu check, or CPU-Z test?
It still says 461 free Ram and around 70 used?
Yet the seller is shouting about it being a 1GB Ram version
Its actually quick enough, but I want to be sure its a 1GB version?
And yeah I know I should have got a "real" NOTE3 but I dont have the cash hence the clone option
Essentially what I want is ANYTHING that can prove either way what Ram this device has as factory? as I said Antutu and other testers show 461 as I showed here on screen shots?
It may be impossible to say. Face it, you bought a piece of rubbish that could be anything and contains God knows what. You got what you paid for.
You get what you pay for.
yes, it is sad, but as all friends above say, you can only be certain if you get your devices at an authorized dealer or carrier, the only way to get the reañl stuff, then, any problem happens , there is always support for you, think about it

how much free ram do you have on your phone ?

hey I am considering buying s8 plus
and I would like to know about the ram the free ram after you clean the ram from device assisstant ?
Is this question really the deciding factor in purchasing this phone? Will you not buy it if it has 100mb less free memory than you'd want?

well I just want to study everything
the only thing that keeps me off the s8 plus is the ram as it is very important for future updates and phone's performance over all
if it is for example less tahn 1 gb after freeing ram with almost no junk apps in the background then I won't be getting it however some tests on youtube showed that it is a good multitasker so I guess I am fine now
but it won't harm if you posted that screenshot XD
I had note5 but the screen is broke so I am deciding for the next two years a very tough decision xD no going back
After cleaning :
Available RAM : 1.8GB
System and Apps : 1.6GB
Reserverd : 636MB
Of course, remaining RAM depends of the number of programs installed nd running in background, even if you try to kill them from the assistant. Don't know if these information are relevant or not
I had 1.3g of memory available after clearing everything, but i have 200 apps in my app drawer, maybe a fully wiped phone would show better results.
I have 1 ram

P10 Pro - RAM question (after Oreo)

Hi everyone
As you all probably know, the P10 Plus has 6GB of RAM.
Having looked at demo's instore, of the Plus model (running Nougat), it only shows 2.95 GB available, from the 6GB installed - with only Phone/Contacts running in the background.
(Personally I'm VERY dissapointed by that):crying:
QUESTION, after the Oreo update, how much RAM is available then?
2.87 with inly xda running. Why is that so important? Tge phone is lightning fast
free RAM is waste of RAM
what poiny of having big RAM when not fully utilized?

Back in die days of the 1st Galaxy S, I used to run out of RAM quickly.
Eversince then, RAM is important to me, especially in a flagship.
Utilization isn't always an option, hence lots of RAM is important (in my opinion) & is required.
in my opinion as i already use p10 plus and OP3T. both has around 3GB free RAM. Here i attached my device RAM. noted that i have many unclosed apps. i hope it help you. device not even fill sluggish although i open lots of apps

Great, that's what I'm looking for. I'll be uploading the photo's I took in-store to show what I mean.
Apparantly, one can use Huawei's HiSuite Windows program to restore your firmware after an update, in case Oreo doesn't play nicely.
I've attached some photo's to my post, have a look

New galaxy s10 plus help needed..

So I recently bought a new s10 plus but I made a post about it already but I haven't received the phone so I didn't know anything about it, today I received the phone and checked the ram and its only 8GB is this normal or is it suppose to be like 12 or 10 GB ram? (my phone is 12 GB ram and 1 TB variant). Also, is the screen supposed to flicker a lot when it opens up the camera because mine do?
Download Device Info HW from the play.store and check the specs
Anything more than 6 gigs of RAM on an Android phone is nothing but a marketing gimmick. The vast majority of people don't need more than 6 gigs of RAM on a laptop--according to Microsoft the minimum RAM requirement to run Windows 10 is 1GB which is stretching it but 6GB is more than enough to provide an extremely smooth experience for anyone who isn't a power user. With that in mind what practical purpose could having 8GB or 12GB of RAM on an Android phone possibly serve?
The expanding RAM numbers were a gimmick to convince the gullible that they needed to purchase expensive new phones--these are the same kind of people who don't question why they need a higher resolution display on a phone with a 10" display than on a 55" television screen.
Now that more RAM and higher resolution are the norm the latest gimmick is smartphone displays with higher refresh rates. Most people won't actually be able to see any difference but that hardly matters if it sells phones.

So you already stated you have purchased a 1TB 12GB ram s10.. and you received an 8GB ram s10? Where did you buy it from? I would bring it back since it may be the wrong one or it may be fake depending where you purchased it from.
How much did you pay for the device?

It is possible the wrong product got delivered to you, If your order correctly states that your device should be a 12 GB variant, you need to do a RMA.
Just to be sure update your device, for checking your RAM, go to settings -> Device Care -> Memory. At the top it should list, there should a be a bar and just under it your used memory/total memory.
For checking storage, go to settings -> Device Care -> Storage. At the top it should list, there should a be a bar and just under it your used storage/total storage.
If either of these don't match your order, please check with the seller, you should only get what you paid for.
As for the screen flicker, it really shouldn't happen, on my device opening the camera app is a rather smooth animation.

Dude, what is your problem? OP asked for verifying the specs of his device and not a lecture on what is the appropirate amount of RAM according to you! Did you even read his question?

Hi sir, I wasn't very clear , sorry.. i currently have 8.5 GB ram available with no apps opened and seller confirmed it was original although I am still afraid coz I bought it not from official shop. In us dollar it's about 800 usd but in my country it's Rm 3000.. I am not sure its suppose to have 12 GB of ram if I have no apps opened or is it normal to have 8.5 gb of ram bcoz it might eat some ram for the system to run so I opened this thread.
Android is designed to fill most of the RAM at all times. In simple terms, empty RAM is wasted RAM.
As you start using apps, Android will keep your most commonly used apps in RAM, so that they launch quickly each timeyou open them or switch between them.
