[Q] TWRP on LG G2 D802 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought the international version (D802) of the LG G2 and i'm doing a bit of reading up on rooting the phone before I start playing with it. Can anyone tell me which of the .img files is suitable to download from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670) for my phone?
I assumed the Korean version is not the same as the international version?
(sorry for not posting this question in the thread I mentioned, but as a new user it says I don't have permission to post in the developer section)
Thanks.

I also have the 802.
I've managed to root my phone using the method here. It detected my phone as the ATT/TM variant so I reckon it is similar at least on some level. I had no issues with the IOroot.
There is another thread in the General forum that says TWRP doesn't work though.

Thanks, I read the rooting guide and it looked straight forward enough. But the twrp guide didn't mention the 802, so I just wanted to make sure I flash the correct one.
I was just reading that thread you mentioned in the general section. It still leaves me a bit confused, as to which one, if any, works. I've been saving for months for this phone, so the first thing I want to do after rooting is make a backup!

A detailed Q & A thread...

Hi,
Coming from Nexus line, I find that LG has its own way of understanding and information is not that complete like in other phones .
I think we need to have a Q & A thread answering these questions :
A detailed description of LG G2 variants.
How do I root?
How do I install a custom recovery like Cwm or Twrp?
How do I backup and restore efs?
How do I unlock bootloader?
How do I update recovery version ?
How do I turn back to stock firmware?
What does LG do to find if you have voided the warranty?
I have found most of the answers but if someone is good in explaining maybe he can put the feedback on these questions or add some more...

I have problem

Took me a while to find this on my old posts, but here it is. This should work with EVERY d802 kitkat aosp based ROM out there so here it goes:
All you have to do is look for the Meta-inf folder>Com>Google>Android and the updater-script file should be there. Download Notepad ++ and open the updater script with it.
The first lines that you have to edit should look like this:
Edit them so it looks exactly like this, and make sure to keep the same format. All you have to do is change the "d802" and "galbi" for "d803"
Like this:
After that, replace the boot.img with the Furnace Kernel boot.img (the one made for aosp, it works with most 4.4 roms), save and close the zip. Put it in your phone and flash, along with the G-apps and optionally the QuickRemote.zip if you want to get remote functionality.
If you don't feel comfortable with replacing the boot.IMG yourself, skip the boot.IMG replacing part and go straight ahead and flash the modified ROM.zip and afterwards flash the furnacekernel.zip
If I didn't make things understandable, just say it and I'll take the time to explain more when I get home. I'm replying from the phone and its kinda hard to do quotes and stuff on chrome

Depends on what Kernel and rom you used. Ever since they updated roms to use either LG 4.4.2 sources or just JB sources it got a bit tricky. It seems youre using a JB kernel on a KitKat sourced rom.
Hi guys, I'm new here from hard bricking Claro 803/801. I'm very confused on what to install and what not - the official version of TWRP seems to be 2.6.32 but there is a 2.8 material design version. Again with roms, I'm not sure what is allowed and what is not. For someone fairly used to Cyanogenmod on my One X and also having heard of Cloudy G3, what would you guys recommend
Question re: D803 vs D801
Hi, I was referred here from a reddit sub while looking for information, it looks like there are lots of knowledgeable people here so I thought I'd post.
First off, for context, I'm a complete n00b when it comes to doing any sort of modifications to a cell phone; pretty much everything I've read here over my head. Rooting? Flashing? No clue what those are
I currently have a D803, and I love this phone. But, I do NOT love my carrier, as I'm being charged ridiculous fees, so I'd like to switch. The problem is the carrier I'd like to go with does not support the D803, as they use the AWS 1700 band (from what I can gather), which means I need a D801, in theory.
I saw someone advertising they can modify my model of phone (among others) to work on the carrier I'm interested in, for $25. Do you guys know if this is even possible? If so, could someone explain to me what the risks would be?
Thanks!

While I cannot speak for the LG G2, I know that with the Skyrocket I was able to flash a modified rom to have it work with Wind's AWS system. It only worked in places close to their towers but never very well. However since the 801 (T-mobile) works on AWS you may want to buy one of those/swap or maybe see if you can flash that radio (D801). NOTE: I cannot guarantee that will work and flashing the wrong radio may seriously damage your device, or so I've heard.

Tried to instal recovery in d802 with motherboard of d801
I tried to update my phone via pc suite that was sold me saying that its orignal d802, after update its touch broke, giving multiple repsonse at a time, no network coverage and the imei and baseband were not present. I took it to local repair shop, they said that it is refurbished and installed claro software of d801 kitkat 4.4.2. Now when i tried to install d801 twrp recovery in it, it got stuck in fastboot mode, I opened the back cover there i found d801/d803 both.. I flashed laf through fastboot of d803 and recovered the download mode... now i can only open the download mode, there is no costum recovery in my phone. Kindly help me that which rom i should install in my phone, and what if i want to instal costum rom what should i do... also the lg flash tool stops at 2% and asks to reconnect the phone.... guys please help me, i really need my phone in working condition

I'm not sure you need claro ROM. Could you check your imei to see which is the firmware you need. I believe I sent you the link

this method gives me link for following version:
D80230a_00.kdz
but when i instal this rom my phone's touch breaks, giving multiple touch points at a time and dead zones, imei becomes 0 and baseband is aslo not present and phone memroy appears 10gb on computer.
this is the correct firmware for you. this is not a ROM but a full fledged update that you must flash using update tool. I suggest you ask on main forum about this problem...but one thing is clear. do NOT use claro update, or you may hard brick your phone.
No lollipop for the Canadian LG G2
Just confirmed by TELUS support this morning.

I want to flash cm12.1 on my phone but dont know if the stock kernel workes with cm12.1 thx.

Hello everyone I LG G2 I have a D801 model Videotron and want to know if everything about D803 works on this model such as using the Autorec of this model D803 and D803 roms from? I do not want to damage it as fast as I recently bought it. Thanks in advance.

Steping up my G2!

Hello, i am looking for help to find out what i need to set up/have in order to flash a custom rom.
All i have is stock G2 with the latest update, phone model is LG-D802, android version is 4.4.2 and it not rooted.
I know first off i need to root the damn thing, but if any of you could point out some kind of post or guide with some kind of step by step info of how to root and after that how to continue with a flash of rom that would be awesome.
I`ve spend some time around the forum looking for such post but couldnt find one, and i am kinda scared to do this on my own since i`ve soft bricked a lot of my old devices.

easiest method, is to use the KDZ method (huge thread on it here) to get back to jelly bean, then download towleroot. one click root.

Rooting a G2 with the LP firmware still possible.

I love my G2 so much because of the current ROM i am using and for what I use my phone for, I really don't need anything better. The problem is I fool with it so much I am concerned about it wearing out or breaking so I want to buy a backup G2 in case something happens. I imagine a new or used one would problably come with the latest firmware (5.01 or 5.1.1) and I am concerned about being able to root it. It's been so long since I rooted my phone (I think I used ioroot originally) and I haven't kept up with newer root methods so I don't know if they work with the latest firmware or has Verizon closed that door.
Is there still a way to root a G2 VS980 if it comes preinstalled with the latest lollipop updates from Verizon?
I searched through the forums but can't seem to find a definitive answer. Thanks for any advice...
Yes. Please search on LG One Click root. I have rooted my phone LG G2 F320k variant on 5.0.2
Thanks for that info. I saw the OneClick thread, but I was concerned about something they said on the first page about not working on 5.1.1. I didn't read through the whole thread so maybe that problem was resolved and the original post was never updated.

Help on which firmware to use.

I am about to root my Samsung Galaxy S7 - SMG930VLUDU4CQH2 for the first time and I am gathering the files for the job. I have read every post from the thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...eres-how-rooted-nougat-s7-edge-g935t-t3567502 . I have the Qualcomm heroqltetfnvzw version so I am sure that I am using the correct thread. The two questions I have are :
- just in case something goes wrong, which stock firmware would I use to get back to original state? The BQA2, BQH4, or the BQA4? , after the Nougat upgrade mine is the CQH2.
Secondly, I have also been reading on the Magisk technique to root and was wondering if anyone has possibly tried both of these out and has compared their stability and lag (or lack of lag)? I understand that that it varies from device to device, I am just talking about the technique.
I have actually read so much that I am getting myself confused on this whole process. Lol. Thank you in advance for your help and I have started following several of the members. You guys rock! :silly:
