S4 Security Policy Update - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Hi I have just started to get a message in my notification bar saying I need to do a security policy update. However when I try to do this it tells me that it cannot due to network issues.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here and how to fix it?
I'm using an S4 unbranded on the 3 network.

same issue here, unbranded on o2

im on an unbranded i9505 on o2 and it will not install for me eithr
I just get a network error message.
I believe its a Samsung servr error, so just try again later

Same here. Is this agreeing to knox? Not sure I want to accept?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app

Well at least I'm not the only one experiencing this. Hopefully we can get it sorted soon.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app

Same issue here. I'm unbranded on T-mobile. Not sure if it's a Samsung problem or an issue with another app. I've seen on other forums that people have had this issue before and it's always been related to another app causing Knox to get over-protective.

Just out of interest, have any of you guys rooted or installed ROMs via Odin at all? I'm wondering if Knox is blocking the update due to the Knox-warranty-void flag. I've unrooted but still seeing the issue.

Same issue, stock unrooted on Vodafone.

It happened the same to me when I tried to install the new .apk of Wallet app. KNOX SUCKS!
Regards,
Urko

Have same issue today on my i9505 unlocked on O2 - prompted to install but times out with network error. I have to press cancel to do anything with the phone.
Stock firmware all delivered OTA in case anyone asks.

Well It's just plain old stock firmware that I'm using. Though I don't have any app called knox.

Knox isn't an app. Its security features that Samsung are building in to their ROMs now.

I have flashed to BTU (from EVR) and it just popped up. Annoying that it doesnt install.

Ok how does that work then?

Ok I'm attempting to ask samsung directly via twitter @samsunguk and @Samsungmobileuk. There are others also in the UK asking them on twitter too!

im not seeing a lot of talk about this error message
for some reason, I thought it would of been a massive conversation today but doesnl look like many have this issue, but Samsung have not even said anything about it

don't even know what this update does

+1 on the update request and failure. ......totally stock on orange uk

their is no talk of this update anywhere,
which I find is strange to be honest, I thought it would of been a massive thing today, but teir is nothing
all us people having problems and their no help, nobody seems to know what the update is for or what it is, Samsung isn't replying to anybody

Security policy update just started to show on mine aswell :/ totally stock simfree updated using Kies other week.

[Q] Can't seem to get the update.. any reason why?

I'm currently on I337UCUAMDB.. trying to get the update first then root after. For some reason, every time I try to access software update, I get this message.
"Software Update Interrupted. No update is available for your device at this time. Please try again in 24 hours."
Any ideas? I've tried on a friend's phone and he also gets the same message. AT&T carrier.
U will have to go back to stock ROM through Odin..I had the same message had to deroot and return my phone to stock then up date through Kies ...hope that helps...

its stock.. i literally just took it out of the box. same with my friend, he got his yesterday.. and we both keep getting this error.. we've tried to push the date forward to try the update again, and each time, it is the same error message.
So my buddy pushed the date forward again, tried the update again, and this time it said "Software is up to date."
i am lost now.
Someone else posted that they had to have ATT push the update to them. I'm wondering if ATT is already pulling that update and preparing a patched one.

can you link me to that? did they just call customer service and ask for the update? from reading, I see that the update fixed a bit of the lag issues people had. I'd like to get that update first before rooting. thanks!

Got it! We plugged it in and used Kies.. and finally got it updated.

Update message?

My wife's phone just said there is a new update available. I did not let it install. Anyone else get this update alert?
Not yet, no ota or via kies. I'm on Rogers, i know it's not ATT but since the S2, we had all updates a few days before ATT which is the sister company in the US and nothing here yet. Can you check and see if is this long awaited update samsung started rolling out 2 weeks ago?
I have AT&T version of S4 and did not get any update notice and nothing shows up on check updates.

Well, from what I've been reading it's possible in addition to the update, they may be trying to patch Loki, which is why I was hesitant. I was messing with it to get rid of the lock icon/custom boot up. I tried flashing the stock Rom with Odin but it only seemed to flash on top of the Rom already installed. Then once it boot up, the update management thing kicked in. It's possible it was just triggering the first update we got a few weeks back, and not a new one.

If this isn't about the "BMEA" update, please have it deleted or locked. Another Update thread that isn't about an update isn't helping anyone. Nothing personal, but people need to confirm what they are posting about before they post about it.
people also need to stop acting like moderators.
How am I going to verify it, if I haven't installed it yet? If it indeed was the new update with a patch for Loki, I am not the one who wants to flash it first.

Can anyone with one handed operation issue verify this?
In other thread somebody found out turning on accessibility service(s) disables one handed operation.
But i'm unsure which service blocks it.
This update might fix this problem...
Edit : Problem's still there.. In my case it's Martian watch's accessibility service
Oh well hope they fix it soon

Note 4 SM-N910F Lollipop UK?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone in the UK has received the Lollipop OTA or the update via Kies yet?
I am using a EE Note 4 with the BTU 4.4.4 stock rom (BTU CSC aswell). There hasn't been much news that I've seen since around early january about the Note 4 Lollipop update. If anyone has any input on this, it would be great to hear from you. As you can probably tell, I'm new to XDA. But I feel that the best people to speak to about this stuff are on here
P.S. I'm a techie, so any questions or things to talk about regarding this post I would be more than happy to discuss
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N910F/
Check Sammobile for firmware... As of now a Vodafone UK lollipop update exists. You can flash it via Odin and will work fine with an EE handset.
Will it work on my unlocked o2 phone too

If its a 910F it should work.
Just to cover your ass, install TWRP, and make a full Nandroid backup.
First flash TWRP via ODIN and backup.
Then install the firmware.

As more and more branded and unbranded Note 4 receive lollipop around the world I find it very difficult to understand why the Note 4 which I bought from the official Samsung Website last November has not received the update.
Has anyone in the UK received the official lollipop update OTA for the unbranded Note 4?
I have just spoken to the UK Samsung support and they said I should get it on 27th April and to phone them if I don't get it.
They said it has been delayed because of bugs but couldn't explain why it has been delayed longer for me compared to most others unless I am getting 5.1 instead of 5.02.

Interesting to see if the come through with that update on that date.
Uk unlocked note 4 user here. They bug reason does not surprise me at all, my other half has a S5 has the lollipop update back in Jan she has regretted it ever since, all sorts of issues with the radio particularly when disconnecting from wifi back to 3/4g she is left without a data connection.
From what I gather the 2 phones use the same if not similar radios.
Hey guys,

Interesting as samsung live update or sammobile show that this firmware is available yet, they both still say 4.4.4 is the latest firmware.
Confused
Phone has now been updated and is running 5.0.1 build number BOC5. No errors while installing

Response from Samsung to my error raport:
Thank you for your email. Your customer reference number is ......
Due to the nature of this matter a remote management session may be the best solution for you. This would involve a technical expert accessing the screen of your device to perform advanced troubleshooting steps.
For a technician to access your phone, you will need a stable internet connection (Wi-Fi is recommended). You will also need to download 'Smart Tutor' from the Google Play Store or Samsung Apps, and allow 'Unknown Sources'. To do this, please follow the steps below:
Settings/About Phone/Security/Unknown Sources (turn to Allowed)
For PC access, a stable internet connection is required. I recommend that you check for any Windows/Mac OS updates before the session starts.
I would like to reassure you that this is a secure service, and none of your personal details, files or settings can be accessed without permission.
The remote management team works by appointment so depending on availability it could take up to 72 hours to secure a session. The session length can vary; I recommend that you allow for 2 hours. Anyone here from Australia? w/ Root and latest firmware.

Im in Perth and my S7 Edge is rooted while using the German Firmware APD1.
Thats it, no Xposed or any other modification.
When I launch my NAB bank app, its just black screen, can anyone else try? Im trying to find out if its the firmware or just NAB itself.
thanks
Banking apps sometimes dont work with root. Root cloak for xposed may help

Latest firmware is not out for Australia yet. I keep checking Sammobile every day for it. It shouldn't be too long now before they release it.
Does it matter which carrier your on. As optus vs Telstra vs the rest... When we get the updates of the ota, what's good about Sammobile?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
nevermind, I just checked the Play Store link for NAB,
people are complaining about it. Seems the app is not compatible with the April Update of Android.
I had root on my S7 Edge when I was in February 1 Update and the NAP app works. it stopped when I updated to April 1

I got my update there. Its gonna be awhile for the update to come here in Australia. Samsung S7 EDGE around the world is updated to the April 2 security patches, Edge touch palm fix, native DPI change and Camera shape fix, and were still in the February 1 update. h
Flashing unbranded or another country firmware means you'll lose VoLTE. Might not be an issue for many people, just thought I'd mention it.

whats VoLTE? is the LTE?
LTE/4G is working fine
EDIT!, just looked it up its Voice Over LTE, It seems to be a rare thing to have in Australia, only one telco has it and im not with them.
EDIT2: hey mate your from here too!, Telstra offers them to some few places, im with Optus
Telco devices in Australia are on the Feb patch, unbranded has March.
I debranded my phone with Aus fw, no root. This means Samsung Pay should work when it comes out here.
I like the firmware but not willing to root/cfw as yet... Kind of like being on a standard rom. Everything works as expected! Plus I'm sick of the setup process starting from scratch.. Does unbrandeding, root, new firmware loose all settings?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
You don't get root, so warranty is not affected, but you start from scratch.

Yes, you loose all settings (just like new device), you start from scratch, Knox will be tripped if you root (warranty now voided), but you get the latest security patches and device updates,
Also de-branding and rooting it removes carrier bloatware and unlocks your device.
Got a new Nexus 5X yesterday and unlocked it before I got going. After installing all the security updates I installed the NAB app to find I also get the black screen. Was wondering if it was something to do with rooting etc but if you guys are having the same issue after the recent security updates would that be a more likely cause?
